Visiting from Colorado. Toured the All Blacks museum and enjoyed geocaching back to the cruise ship! Thanks for the cache!
Owl and Eagle were visiting on the Royal Princess. Having docked just down the road this was a must-do and Owl is glad she did. What an interesting piece of history. Thanks for pointing it out.
My first cache of the day in Auckland, but I will log it proper later as I have forgotten to bring the lead for my camera to download the required photo.
Just returned from my first trip to NZ. Traveled with Gate1 travel. Had a wonderful time. Photo of wooden geocoin with caching name attached. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in your virtual.
Thanks for this cache, it's great learning about sites such as this and the history behind them and why they exist.
Photo attached.Found on my walk around Auckland just as it's starting to rain. Thanks for placing this virtual cache and bringing me here.

Two Finns backpacking and enjoying life. Our travels continued from Australia to New Zealand and arrived to Auckland yesterday! Today we wondered around the city and logged few caches on our way. Thank you for introducing us this interesting memorial.
Historical Geocaches are my favorite! Thank you for teaching me something today ! Marie0317
After a night at Mt Smart catching a Pearl Jam concert I passed here today on my way to the Britomart to head for home. The sun popped out just as I crossed the road here. Hard to tell in the photo, but that is a TB at the bottom of the column. Thanks Auckland. See you again next weekend
Today we strolled around the city and collected some caches. This was the fourth one TFTC
Our second time in NZ, 14 years ago we were here only 4 nights and only around Auckland. This time we have two weeks to visit both islands and most interesting sites. After 25 hours of flying, we arrived to our hotel early in the morning. After sleeping few hours, we had breakfast and then a short walk near the hotel before sleeping a little more. During our walk, we also passed this memorial, TFTV and greetings from Finland
thnaks for the cache-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --French version below-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Short late log but more complete now that we are back home. Our vacation will take us to the other side of the world to the land of the Maoris. After many, many hours of flying, a passage through China on the way there and through the United States of America on the way back, we will finally arrive in Christchurch which will be the starting point of our journey. We will enjoy the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and we will go back towards the North Island via State Highway 1. To combine business with pleasure, we will take regular breaks and small detours according to the caches that seem the most accessible to us.With a little more than 3500 km in 20 days, we will have discovered many facets of this island which is soothing. We will have to come back because there are so many places that we have not done ??. In broad strokes, the path will go from Christchurch to the Kaikoura Peninsula then towards Picton for the crossing to Wellington.New island, new road, and by State Highway 2 we go towards Hastings and Napier. We will leave the seaside for several days to go to Tongariro and Taupo. We will continue north towards Rotorua and Hamilton (without forgetting a detour via Hobbiton ??) A detour to the Coromandel Peninsula and finally the almost north of the island with Whangarei and Waitangi to learn the history of this country. There will only be a few days left to spend towards Auckland and its suburbs before taking the plane back to the grayness of our European autumn. The majority of the boxes will be found, we have abandoned those where our English was lacking and where we could not understand the clue. Thanks to all the owners who brightened up our path, who took us to incredible places (that's also geocaching)In short, we had a great vacation, saw beautiful places that simply ask us to come back. We learned a lot about the history of this country and its traditions, it's a great motivation for our destinations.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Petit log en retard mais un peu plus complet maintenant que nous sommes rentrs la maison. After taking possession of our accommodation, we go walking along the quays, in order to move our legs, which are a little cramped on the planes . We will not fail to look for a few caches on our route, Geocaching being part of our trip. Thank you to all the installers for the work carried out for our greatest pleasure. Greetings from France. Trip to New Zealand decided very quickly , but that did not stop us from preparing a small file of caches to search, as far as possible. The GC46 is, of course, at the top of this list! Our program should allow us to discover a large part of this country. Thanks for showing! A surprisingly small beacon though, I expected sth somewhat bigger. But whatever, a beacon is a beacon.
Thanks for pointing out, otherwise would probably just strolled by and not even noticing.
I don't recall having seen this beacon on any earlier visits to Auckland. Thanks for highlighting it.

Calling in to Auckland for the All Blacks experience- very good! Having a wander afterwards and delighted to find some close caches.
#4132 Today is day 29 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm wandering around Auckland and geocaching.Found it! GeoRick, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 29, 2024 @ 11:51:27[GCAJFGH] The Red Beacon of Hope was a D1.0/T1.0 Virtual Virtual Cache at the time of finding.
Noticed the red beacon earlier when walking past then decided whilst having lunch at the viaduct to see if any geocaches in the area so was happy to get this one on my way back. Tftc
Out exploring with my work colleagues during our 24 hr stop over in Auckland on the way home from Tonga. Another very cool spot thanks. Mrs Fergzter (Selfies aren't our strong point)
Thank you GeoRick for placing this cache.Lovely wander around the waterfront on a sunny but windy evening.Find number 5325
Thanks GeoRick for the cache. Its #2142 for us. We found your cache on Friday 25 October 2024. Nice to finally get a cache from the famous Rick and Lyn! I watch all your videos and really enjoy following you caching and travelling. Weve just run into Gorby nearby and we look forward to meeting you in person next year in Rotorua. Peter & Chris
Today I deliberately took the bus to its last stop at Britomart so I could take the picture of the red beacon. Then I walked back along Queen Street to the Diwali Festival around Aotea Square. There were several stages with music and Bollywood dance groups. Of course there were market stalls as well selling Diwali decorations and henna tattoos. After some samosas I needed a break from the busy streets and went to the art exhibition and chill lounge within the theatre. Completely recharged and relaxed I made my way back to the food stalls for more nice Indian food. Having devoured the meal while watching amazing dancers, it was around 6pm and time to leave the growing crowds. I walked happily to the nearest busstop and took the NX2 back to the North Shore. What a lovely afternoon at the colourful festival with a virtual to top it off! FP for the virtual !
Wandering around Auckland today, this beacon caught my eye. It is a lovely monument - both in structure and sentiment. Thank you for highlighting it, GeoRick
Found this while exploring Auckland, watch out for the bike lane when taking pictures
M, J, and G mini adventure to Auckland. Found as we walked along this street, following the red pillars! TFTC
In town for the evening for work. A chance to grab some caches. A wander down the waterfront and another cache to have. TFTC
TFTC. On a trip into the city with a walking group and snapped a photo of the monument.
In town on a Friday night to meet some fellow fans of the new Auckland FC team. I was able to pick this up between the parking building and the pub and Im glad I did. I really enjoyed the info about it and it made me stop and look properly at something Id passed many times before without realising its significance. A perfect example of geocaching. A fav point for that. Thanks for the hopeful cache!
Walking around Auckland on a day trip. Has passed this spot 100s of times and never noticed or paid attention to it, so thanks.
An early morning wander around Auckland to grab some caches. This one popped up nicely.TFTC and the warning
Last day of our extra long weekend off and MrNZT and I headed into town to do a few caches and have some lunch. Lunch was average but the caching was great. Walked down to this virtual and spotted the beacon as we approached. Quick photo and off we went to the next cache. Thanks for placing this virtual here. Finished in Mission Bay for Ice cream so a great outing in the city!
Needed to locate a few caches for the Equinox souvenir so headed down here to quickly grab this one.....thanks for bringing us back to this part of town.TFTC.
I'm in Auckland for a couple of days and for a change it has nothing to do with work (up the Irons!). So I've got nothing to stop my caching activities except being limited to public transport. Maybe I'll spot a Yeti with his very distinctive coat (GCAT2T2). (I didn't but I know he was up the front there somewhere). The beacon is lit! Gondor calls for aid!All good here, and thank you to GeoRick for the placement of your Virtual Cache.Find #7099 at 17 September 2024 9:36am
Nice simple virtual cache found in down town Auckland, see photo attached of aalis_01 and she has a picture of me Elliot13 in her log. TFTC
Virtual caches are my fav to get so while on holiday in Auckland I plan to get as many as I can. Here is #1 for the trip. Found with Elliot13. TFTV
We came across to an event and then walked down here. I've walked past here so many times without really taking a lot of notice of this monument.
Up in Auckland today geocaching and picked up a few caches downtown. Thanks for setting this one up - very interesting. TFTC
Matagouri is spending a couple of days in Auckland doing work 'stuff', so I've tagged along for a bit of a caching adventure. I was dropped off at Cornwell Park to begin my day, which was nearly 8 hrs of wandering around Auckland. I'm not sure how many k's I covered, but it was a lot!!!So many interesting features in the area. I've really enjoyed wandering around. This is a great choice for a virtual. Thanks for setting it up here
Out and about again, left Perth on a trip to USA and Canada. We stop briefly at Sydney and Auckland (New Zealand). Caching time is limited so trying to get as many as muggle family will allow without a mutiny on my hands. Got into Auckland late afternoon and had a walk along the harbour. This cache is find number - 16370.Thanks to GeoRick for the caches I have found.
Up in Auckland for a bit of time out with EyespyBenThis virtual was very interestingAwesome
Today, taking the last impressions of Auckland, I walked with Schatoh68 through stunning places and wonderful streets. This cache was on our path. Thanks!
I'm now back in NZ, having spent the last couple of months in Europe, and today I'm traveling to pick up my car that friends have been looking after in my absence. This means experiencing the wonder that is the Auckland Transit public transport system. But seeing as I have all day to get to them, and it's a beautiful winter's day with blue skies and a reasonable temperature I figured that I'd have a good wander around Auckland CBD, which is a rare thing for me so there are a good number of caches for me to find.I'd never before stopped to take notice of this monument, which is one of the main points of a Virtual cache and why I generally love caching so much. Very interesting to note that the memorial was created before the war had ended. Thanks for encouraging me to stop here today..
We are in the city putting out a new cache further along and trying to clock up some numbers for the cosmic quest. Master 8 is very set on getting out 100 point souviener. So we walked past this - actually have walked past it so many times and never realised its story so thank you for making us stop today. Photo was miss 5 idea ! The sky and the red bit with meow. 'yes perfect' she told me assessing my work. Hope her artist visions meet the criteria. TFTC
I'm in Auckland for a couple of days visiting my muggle brother, and I managed to get a couple of caches whilst in the area.Beautiful area around here and will definitely have to come back to try out some of the local restaurants.Thank you, GeoRick, for placing this good virtual cache, a favourite point from me
On our first day in NZ after nearly a month in Peru, we found ourselves in the harbour area and visited this cache.TFTC
Our first day in New Zealand after we have left Shanghai, which was our home for nearly 6 years.Very exited to start into the adventure of exploring New Zealand with a camper van Of course we will try to find some caches around the route TFTC
Caching on a rainy day is not so bad because less Muggels are there.Grettings from GermanyAnna&Paul 2012
On our first full day in Auckland we headed to the Maritime Museum via this poignant memorial. I have visited a lot of war memorials through geocaching (we have a national series based around them in the UK) but I think this Beacon of Hope is the most striking that I have seen. I have added my photo to this log, along with a favourite point.Found at 12:09Cache #10386TFTC GeoRick
After dropping cragger off I had a couple of hours to kill before my next things so I thought I would clear out some of the caches in this area. Parked nearby and had just 15mins to play with parking wise so raced over. I havent noticed this here before even though Ive been here many times! Managed to grab the required picture and off I was racing back to the car. Thanks for the cache.
Interesting cenotaph with a beacon atop like a guiding light for ships returning to the harbour.
Thanks for bringing me here. I've been to Auckland many times but never knowingly stumbled across this fascinating piece of history. Tftc.
Thanks for the virtual. Wiley and I are here to celebrate his high school graduation in California. We have had 3 lovely days here and are leaving tomorrow to Queenstown.
Have walked past here many times and not taken much notice. Now because I was doing this virtual I stopped and spent some time. Information I was not aware of Thank you for the placement.
