Stopped by here after work for a quick non-trad. Interestingly, although I have lived in Melbourne almost 30 years, the only time I have ever set foot inside Queen Vic Market was when I came for a visit before I lived here!
I love exploring the market, the sights, smells sounds when meandering. Also love the bratwursts.thanks for the cache. If you get a chance. Market nights through summer on Wednesdays is amazing too.
*Found on the 26 Nov 2024 @ 3:13pm.**Cache find # 16067.* While making a visit to the city to check out Monopoly Dreams, I decided to head up to this one to make the find. Its not a place that I visit very often too many people for my liking.**Thanks to Haz0410 for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
A place that I have known for decades, being a Richmond resident. I particularly enjoy the shops along Victoria Street where I have a coffee and a bite to eat. Thanks for the cache.
Im visiting from Brisbane while hubby is participating in the Head of the Yarra tomorrow. It was a hot day to be walking around - 34 deg C - but I luckily found a fantastic gelato shop - so this was my favourite aspect of the markets today. Thanks for the Virtual.
A lovely afternoon of Dim Sum and retail therapy. Then I walked up to the Market before heading home. Its actually been several years since Ive been to the market when it was working but when I lived in Melbourne, I used to regularly walk up from Uni and wander the fruit vegetable rows. Then Id grab some meat for my cat. Last time I was here when the tat markets were on, I was looking for Wombat things but the few options were more expensive than the normal tourist shops in the city. Thanks for setting.
Melbourne 2024. XPT. Concert. Discord Mates. Geocaching.Visited the Queen Victoria Market for this Virtual. An interesting place here. TFTVPLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS WRITE NOTE. Today I was in Melbourne for a medical appointment. Afterwards I headed to the Victoria Market for this virtual cache and an AL. I rarely come to this market but have great memories of visiting the very busy seafood section on Christmas Eve. Thanks for bringing me back to this great location.
In a previous life I used to come here every week to buy my meat and veggies. I either rode my bike in from South Yarra, or came on the tram. It still looks the same, but the meat hall was never open on a Sunday back then. We would come on Saturday morning just before closing time when they would discount everything to sell it. No trading of meat on Saturday afternoon or all day Sunday back then,
TFTC:). Passing through today. Thank you for the virtual. When I am at the market, I usually enjoy walking through the different areas usually stopping by Morks for a nice hot chocolate. A nice walk .C.C
Finished work and off to see Eric Idle but with 3 hours to kill, I decided to do some caching. What I like best about the Queen Victoria Market is the cheap ugg boots and then the vegetable stalls. Thanks for putting out this virtual cache.
On holiday from NZ with AlpiSteve. After a late lunch we headed to the Market. I wasn't a fan of the butchers meat smell but did enjoy a wide range of other foods that appealed...the corn cobs on a stick was a favorite TFTV
We enjoyed the trip down memory lane with a visit to the market with the two little bunnies. Each had to pick a fruit to eat and then the difficult choice of what to spend their pocket money on. The results are in the photo! TFTC.
In Melbourne for the weekend to see Coldplay and wandering around the city today. The markets are always an interesting place to visit. Thanks Haz0410 for organising.
Thank you for this cache! What a lively and vibrant market- lots to see, browse and taste through - the relaxed vibe is my favorite. Greetings from
Nice, easy find. What I like most about the QVM is the atmosphere. TFTC
In the city caching, wandered down to Vic Market to do this virtual. What I love about Vic Market is the vibrant atmosphere. Theres always something happening. Love spending time there. TFTC Haz0410. Photo attached
Melbourne Day 2 - Exploring the city center, for real this time as I ended up going more into the gardens during Day 1Quick virtual before entering to explore the markets, tftc ! Greetings from France
The two Dromaniax were at work today and decided to go to the Queen Victoria Market for lunch. We love the Queen Victoria Market and have both shopped here regularly. To list a favourite part is quite tricky! Do you choose the excellent seafood section with terrific oysters and a vast selection of fish and other seafood? Do you choose the meat section, which includes everything from sausages to more exotic meats like goat, goose, duck, and Wagyu beef? Or are they the fruit and vegetable vendors with the dazzling array of fresh fruit and vegetables? No, I think it would be the deli hall, which has a selection of fine cheeses and other delicious goods from Australia and worldwide. You can pick up small goods from dozens of cultures and grab a steaming hot borek or bratwurst with a superb coffee or hot chocolate. The Queen Victoria market truly has something for everyone.Thank you, Haz0410, for this Virtual Cache.
Thanks for the virtual cache! My favourite thing about the QV Market is that I live right next to it!
I passed by here this morning reviving my personal involvement with the market since the early 1980s.In the 80s I worked at Myer and on Fridays came up here to stock up on nuts etc for bushwalking and ski trips. In the 90s I lived in Flemington. I did all my weekly shop here with a giant backpack. In the 2000s I worked in Latrobe St and at lunchtimes I bought cheese and fish. Now I am retired and I miss this places and it's smells and bustle.A favourite point from me
Down in Melbourne this week and had a chance to pop past this virtual and the nearby AL on the journey to the office. Thanks placing this virtual cache Haz0410 #2993
I have been coming to QV market for more than 20 years. I love the boreks for lunch, the Polish deli sausages and seafood sections as the weather warms in the lead up to summer BBQs.
Mr SKI remembers the Viccy Market well as he used to regularly visit to buy fruit, veggies and meat there each fortnight for those in the flat he shared when at Uni way back. Plenty of clothes were also purchased there after bargaining. It was always a bustling place with plenty of activity and noise. Since then it has been renovated several times and is considerably more up-market than it was then. Still a good place to visit. Our favourite section was the deli area with it myriad of cheeses and small goods. We have recently had a few trips to Melbourne some by train and others by car to collect our second car after returning from travels and others to see a show in town and attend a family birthday party and house warming celebration. All good times. We managed to collect a few caches on each journey and attempt some Ad Labs.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Haz0410.**SKI Pair****
Came to Queen Vic Markets to see the Diwali Indian Festival of Lights and had a great time. Love the diverse cultures we have in Melbourne and love learning about each one. Queen Vic markets have quite a few different festivals from all walks of life so love it. The food here is also very diverse and we indulged in some delicious Indian food today while soaking up the atmosphere, dancing and general great vibe.Whilst here I noticed a virtual so had to grab that before heading home.
Found on 20/10/2024 @ 21:21Since I was already in the CBD doing a maintenance run, this seems like a good time to visit.I was able to find a parking spot quite close by, and the obligatory photograph was soon taken.I had taken photos here not so long before tjis virtual was published, whilst doing an AdLab, but none of them contained visible body parts. ??I love Queen Vic market. Back in my early days, c.1981, not long after moving to Melbourne from Western Australia, I worked as a tow truck driver for Perlow Towing.During that time, our depot moved from the eastern end of Little Lonsdale Street, and we were then in a building in Victoria Street, across the road from the market, close to Peel Street. It was the perfect place to watch the crowds go by, and we often ventured into the market for coffee or a bite to eat. Sometimes, for a few supplies to take home or to find gifts for family and friends, or simply to take in the sights and exotic smells from the different stalls.Thank you for placing this Virtual Rewards cache and bringing back fond memories from so long ago.
Out and about today on the weekend enjoying the weather and the cache hunting. Today's focus was initially a CITO because I needed one on the 20th of the month. After that we had a nice lunch and gathered a few caches on a roundabout way home to avoid the toll roads. One thing I always remember was when we had a school trip all the way from Warragul to the market and it was in the early days when digital watches first came out and they had a james bond watch with a super loud alarm playing the theme music and boy did people get sick of that on the bus on the way back. Because it was so loud and we used it so many times, the batteries only lasted a few days. Ah, fun times. Thanks Haz0410 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.
In the city today to attend an event so took the opportunity to visit the market. I love the history held within and enjoy wandering around. My favourite part is wandering around the fish section and checking out the wide variety available and of course the price of lobster. I first visited here back in the 70s. I remember there were good bargains on food stalls if the stall holder was about to go home. There was always someone calling out a good price for produce and another person competing with a better price. Today in the fish hall the stalls are much more up market, more like shops and no spruiking. I don't mind the smell of the fish hall as it reminds me of Xmas time. Thanks Haz0410 for the virtual
Found by The Empire + HWe visited the Queen Victoria Market on Saturday morning. The market was alive with energy, vendors calling out their specials as shoppers navigated through the colourful stalls. The air was thick with the scent of fresh produce, baked goods, and street food. Our first stop was Market Lane Coffee, where we ordered a pour-over from Kenya. The barista carefully prepared the brew, letting the rich aroma of the single-origin beans fill the air. The coffee was bright and fruity, with subtle notes of berries and citrus, making each sip a smooth and refreshing start to the day. With our coffee in hand, we couldnt resist heading to the donut van, where the smell of freshly fried dough drew us in. We bought a bag of hot jam-filled donuts, their crispy exteriors giving way to a warm, sweet center with each bite. It was the perfect treat to enjoy as we wandered through the market.Later, we found ourselves at a chocolate stall, tempted by the array of handcrafted chocolates. By the time we left, our bags were full of delicious market finds, and we felt satisfied from the perfect Saturday morning at the Queen Victoria Market. The Kenyan pour-over, the warm donuts, and the artisan chocolates made it a morning to remember. Thanks for the cache Haz0410. -MVirtual #264
Taking a morning meander through Melbourne and came past here. Great external architecture. TFTC
Swung by today after work to catch up with my half-sister, daughter, and her mum. We had a good time at the night market which also featured performances for the Fringe festival. Enjoyed some tacos, Korean fried cheese on a stick, pasta and paella followed by Italian grenata and a Nutella and banana crepe! I love all the different food options this place has to offer.
Found with Noo82 on our last day in Melbourne. Loved the new building, had not seen this before.TFTC
Spending some time caching around the NSW/ACT southern tablelands with lots of side trips. TFTC. Day 2 of a family trip to Melbourne to attend PAX and other events including completing a prison escape room and a night at the theatre. It's a n8ce market. Very clean and spacious. Excellent to sit around on a warm morning.
I had spent the morning out in the Essendon area for an event and a couple of caches. I'm now back in the CBD for lunch and this cache before meeting Muzza, McLookers and 3350 to attend a taping of Hard Quiz later this evening.Back in my university days, my girlfriend then wife now ex, used to frequent the market for a day out. Thanks Haz0410 for placing this Virtual Cache, enhancing the game board and adding to our enjoyment.
Heel leuk bezoek gebracht aan de Queen Victoria Market. Souveniertjes gekocht en heerlijk gegeten bij een Srilankaans restaurant. Wat we most enjoyed was the food at the Sri Lanka restaurant. TFTC.
Headed to the market on our last morning in Melbourne. How I love that you can grab fresh seafood (oh my, the oysters and prawns were yummy!) here, at the same time enjoy some warm beef and onion borek and a hot cuppa. Logging in with a photo of me and my cuppa at the entrance of Queen Victoria Market. TFTC. Greetings from Singapore
I've been to Queen Victoria Market many times and I always love it for a stroll!
I was in town on Wednesday afternoon and decided to find this virtual. We were told it was going to happen at an event on Monday by the CO. I love the Queen Vic Market- especially the deli area and the fruit and veg area. My favourite lunch is a mild pork sausage in a roll from in the deli area. Thank you for this virtual Haz0410
Years ago I used to live on Spencer Street and walk up through the Flagstaff Hill to buy groceries in the Queen Victoria Market. Its so vibrant that I enjoy coming here to this day.
Had to pop in for to get a scotch fillet for tomorrow's dinner and stopped to log this cache. I love the dual nature of the market as it serves as a major tourist destination while also providing value to locals by offering top quality meats and produce, thanks Vic market and tftc!
Found whilst heading for an appointment nearby. Sadly it was not open today. But we have enjoyed cheeses from the market in the past. Thanks Haz0410 for celebrating the Market this way. Sorry for the late log.
I have been coming to this market all my life. It has been modernised over the years, and the food halls seem a lot cleaner and not as smelly. I like the variety of good you can purchase here. Muggle Husband loves the Boreks.
I came into the CBD early in order to do a couple of caches (including this one) before attending tonight's dinner event at Melbourne Central.Having been here just a few weeks ago for the Adlab, I knew where I had to get to. After a quick photo it was off to the event.I don't often come to the market as there isn't a lot on offer that interests me. However, on a couple of occasions, I have visited and bought at a shop selling all sorts of tools at good prices. Thanks to Haz0410 for the virtual.
The Market has changed so much over the years, my favourite would have to be the deli with all the different cheeses. Thanks Haz0410 for the cache.
I attended a nearby event at Melbourne Central and had a bit of time to spare before I caught my train. I decided to catch a tram to the Vic Market and complete this virtual. I used to work at the McDonalds on the corner back when it first opened in 1990. Yes Im that old. But the best thing I like about the Vic Market has to be the jam donut van ?? They are the best. Thanks Haz0410 ??????
I always enjoy the South Melbourne Market. No matter how many times I go, its just got that vibe. Whether Im grabbing some fresh produce, hunting for something new, or just grabbing a quick bite, its always worth the trip. The foods great, the atmosphere is buzzing, and theres always something to check out. Its the kind of place you can keep coming back to and still find something new.
Found this one on a walk back from Macaulay station to the city, checking on caches as I went. Got the photo and it fits right in with our AdLab, which is also here. Is that the best thing at the market? Maybe but I may be biased. On talking to the CO a couple of days ago about this area, this was actually our 5th cache find here, with our previous finds being in 2006, 2009, and 2014 x 2 so there have been caches here but they have all eventually disappeared. Thanks from D B-A
What an excellent virtual location. So pleased to see this icon highlighted. I love the variety and freshness of produce but I must admit, I prefer the older format, I have been visiting for over 40 years. Thanks for the virtual Haz0410.
What a great spot for your very first virtual. Now what do I like about the Queen Victoria Market? It was closed today but as I remember it the was a shop in the deli section that made a very passable German sausage roll with all the trimmings. Also a very nice deli that sold Polish small goods. Even though I don't particularly enjoy the crowds there is still much to like about the Market. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC.
We were here earlier this week and surprised that there were no caches. Back today and wow a new one! MrB loved the satay chicken. Mrs B loved the shopping!! TFTC
