Nice quick fine here today. Its IGD weekend again this year we are at Toodyay. A pretty hectic time at the moment so was only able to get up here for the day. Left home early and picked up Allied Oz on the way before meeting up with Granett in town. we had a rough plan of what we wanted to do during the day but as per usual plans will change. This was one of many we picked off during the travels today. A good mix of traditional Multis, puzzles and challenges as well, obviously the many labs around town. Many thanks to geotrakka for placing and maintaining Ruins. I was here on Saturday and this is my find 11541.

TFTC.This is my 1127th find!In the end, I'm feeling more and moreThere won't be any endNo ice walls, no frozen firmament to clearly defineThe corners and lines of our divine inventionSo paper-thin you see right through itBut I bet when you can't find an edgeBy a map half-writtenIt could feel like the end to have to keep goingThe inkwells of prophecy and cartographyDried up long agoThey're hoarse from speaking of our studied hesitationTo shoulder the weight of our bad-b?having'Cause when Atlas shrugs, whose back is breaking? And I know how it feels to th? handsHeavy as the heavensA weight that could fold you to keep holdingWell, you'll stand like you stood as a babeTalking at the house plantsOn your own, honest and trulyYou'll rise like landPulled up at the sound of some strange commandmentA moon of light reflecting fullyAnd I guess it would feel like rebirthOut of some kind of dying to see yourself so glowing

Saturday, Day 2 of IGD, was filled with adventures around Toodyay. The morning was spent at the event hall, running introductory sessions and chatting with those who came through. After a hearty lunch, I rushed off to try and snag some tags before returning to town to pick up SirFancy. We then decided on our plan for the afternoon. Opting to head out into the countryside, we targeted a series of puzzles, challenges, and multi-caches. Despite the wet weather in the area, we werent sure how much wed be able to accomplish along the dirt tracks, but fortunately, there were no issues, and we completed all of them.Back in town, we grabbed a few traditional caches before joining the community for dinner and birthday cake at the evening event. We finished the night by joining a large group for a night cache mission in the rain.I had an absolute blast today, and it was great to see so many geocachers out and about. By the time I returned to the accommodation at the end of the long day, I had managed to log 45 finds, sign 12 challenges, attend 2 events, and record only 1 DNF. Thanks go to geotrakka for placing and maintaining the Traditional cache Ruins for me and others to find.I added my name to the log at 16:43 on 17/8/2024.This is find number 9213 for me.

I owned a cache here once but had to archive it as the ruins have became private property (according to the shire back in 2022)This is what the ruins are from:Gumleys Mill foundationsIn 1942 Millars Timber and Trading Pty. Ltd. was given permission to build a sawmill at this location, in the vicinity of Toodyays first railway station. The company leased a little over one acre from the West Australian Government Railways and had the use of a siding to load railway trucks. Machinery in the mill included a large engine which ran most of the saws and a smaller engine which powered twin saws used to reduce the logs to manageable lengths. Today only the concrete foundations remain of this building.Edward Gumley managed the mill and dealt directly with local landowners, arranging timber leases on behalf of Millars. Leases, for either one or two years, gave Millars the exclusive right to harvest wandoo or jarrah on the property. The timber was branded for identification and landowners were paid per cubic foot harvested. This was a popular arrangement as farms were then able to be established more easily on the partially cleared land.In 1947, mainly due to post-war labour shortages, Millars closed the mill and the equipment was dismantled and shipped elsewhere. Edward Gumley and a number of other mill employees also moved away. In late 1949 a new company, Industrial Extracts, was established in Toodyay. The core business of this company was the extraction of tannin from timber and a factory was built approx. 4.5 km from here, by the Avon River near Millards Pool. Industrial Extracts also took over and re-instated the sawmill. In the early 1950s Gumley returned to Toodyay to manage the mill once again and by 1954 had purchased it. He continued milling at Toodyay until the 1970s when timber became difficult to obtain and the mill was permanently closed. During its operation Gumleys Mill processed extensive quantities of hard wood for many uses including housing and railway sleepers.

Feeling inadequate not having been to Toodyay for a very long time. Trying yo restore my overachiever status with half a day out. Slept in and waited for two deliveries before heading off at 11am. Traffic was horrendous on the way back and it took almost two hours from the challenge series to home. Weather was glorious sunshine while caching but it did start to rain in patches on the way back. Ive checked the weekend forecast and its looking wet wet wet. Thanks for this hide.

Out and about again, headed out to Toodyay to do a pre-IGD cleanup with Lachlan1.77. We saw a few FTFs appear on the map and some which had been there a few days already. WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 69 - Swan Valley Perth to Goomalling via Toodjay and Calingiri. After a great time being stationary around Perth it was time to move on. I fund plenty of caches along the way and did a couple of nice Labs in Toodjay before lining up for a very nice morning tea in the bakery. I retired to the Goomalling pub for the afternoon and was joined by Sacada and Aquillus for dinner. we made plans for a day of series caching for the next day before a very cold night.I arrived in Toodyay and started doing town caches and two sets of Labs. This was a quick roadside stop and no problems with th cache. Thanks for the cache geotrakka48235.6 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2006 Earth Geocache A#17**Albida**
