Solved this one when it first come out but was late to a family dinner across the road so wasnt able to collect. Was in the area again today so stop by and spotted something out of place straight away. TFTC
I got the name a few days ago but as it was quite long decided to do the maths in the comfort of home, knowing I would definitely be back at Pennant Hills sooner or later. Today was the day and managed parking fairly close on the other side of the station. Quickly spotted once at GZ, a typical C62 hide out in the open. Thanks Bruce for the cache.
Found with EH after some caching around the area. Got the details, then off to GZ for a typical hide by the CO. Another side-tracked checked off. TFTC
Another nice side-tracked Multicache. I recognised one of this CO's signature cache types on approach. TFTC Calypso62
Parked nearby to travel to the Postcard Event today and realised theer was a cache I'd sussed out a while back. A methodical scan landed at something a bit interesting. Nice handiwork. Thanks Calypso62.
Found It!There sure are a lot of trains going through here on a Saturday morning. Collected all the answers, then wandered over to the final location and found the very well built cache container!TFTC
Woohoo! I've started getting into more multi caches, and this one was lots of fun! Borrowed some receipt paper from the convenience store across from the station and I did my working out on that, and soon had the cache in hand! TFTC!
Found at 1815 hrs after catching the train to attend a family function nearby. As always with the CO, it was interesting and educational, capped of with an excellent cache container. A favourite. TFTC.
A very close to home cache that was published when I was on the road, so just getting around to doing it now. Interesting location in the checker. Could see the cache as I walked up to it. Bit nervous putting it back in front of the cars at the traffic lights. Another calypso cache. That felt like you were dealing with an xxxx device. Tftc tnln
Detoured out this way for the latest Calypso instalment.Easily found the plaque and ran through the maths, this had me on a quest to a Hall Class steam locomotive model number GWR 4900. Will need to visit one day.Soon I was back in time, and on my way to the actual GZ.6pm, Icy winds as I stood in a mad search to find this and be on my way to warm up at home.Argh yes, bingo moment as I laid my eyes on an item that didnt look correct, SL and returned, thanks calypso62
SideTracked Find 272So windy today. It would have felt a lot warmer if that wind hadn't been so strong. For my first attempt at calculating the answer I managed to put in a wrong number. After this was rejected by the checker, I reworked the numbers and found my mistake. This time the checker agreed. So off to GZ. I liked the cache container. Favourite point. TFTC Calypso62.
On our way to Normanhurst and a colony of frogs, hopefully, this was a minor detour with plenty of parking nearby on a Sunday. I found the plaque and collected the required info then did the calculations, which only took 2 attempts after I threw out mental arithmetic and used the calculator. We headed off to GZ and a typically brazen hide by the CO, really well done. Thanks for the fun Calypso, it's been too long since we found one of yours.
A fun Multi on my way home from a lovely wedding. Thanks for the fun solution. TFTC.
Heading to Murwillumbah for July schoolHolidays. First stop Pennant Hills to heart up the drive. Always check before I come here to see if any new caches (everything else is found or unsolved) in the area and for once a new one appeared. Had to get fuel so drove up and parked nearby and walked across to the station.Thought this was the recent upgrades so looked in the wrong spot initially - found it on the second sweep and then to do the maths. I always get these wrong but amazingly the checker came up trumps on the first attempt. GZ was on the way I needed to go so that was also a bonus. Sunday afternoon and drizzly rain all was pretty quiet so I had the time to search in peace. No need as I grabbed the nicely designed container first time - seen a few like the around here.TFTC Calypso62 - a favourite because multis dont get enough love
Out and about in Westleigh area today caching. After finding lots of bush hides, I decided to try and get 6 cache types in one day. I parked at thornleigh solved that cache, then hit the train to pennant hills. No problems here, and got the cache quickly. Now a 15 min return wait (( Thanks for this one cal!
#14559 12:20A Quick stop in Pennent Hills for this new Sidetracked multi.TFTC Calypso62
This my first cache for the day after getting a train from central to pennant hills on my slow way to an event held elsewhere by the cache owner. With time up my sleeve, I went in search of the plaque required, then with this info sat down outside to calculate some coords. Not long later I was oohing and aahing about Scottish viaducts that soon led me to a cache not so far away. I loved this multi. The casual set-up, the fun learning part and the awesome hide at gz. Easily earns another favourite for the sheer beauty I've come to love in a calypso62 geocache. Thank you !!
Decided to go for a drive today we collected the info required and made a quick find at GZ signed logbook and returned one magnet loose (I see you are already onto that) Thanks Calypso62 for placing this cache GCAQ7R4
Found quickly after getting the required information. Watched a coal train go past as we were signing the log. Cool place to watch trains. Thanks C62.
Perfect way to spend a bit of time while waiting for an appointment. Thanks for the cache!
My 2nd C62 SideTracked multi today, found the plaque quickly, and did my calculations at wp1, obtained the very far a way coordinates, and input these into the checker to get far more apt coordinates, and made the find quickly. Tftmc C62
I snapped the plaque a few days ago while hurrying through the station and did the calculations later. Today, YGAT and I dropped by to grab the cache.Good one, thanks Calypso62.
(3 of 4 today)My third *SideTracked* cache in two days. Not complaining one bit!Parked a hundred metres down the road and made my way to GZ.Grabbed the required info and then with the correct Rail stuffed up one call. After the checker confirmed my mathematical miscalculation, I spotted the error, corrected and got GZ.Made my way there for a quick find.Added my ink to the log, replaced and off home before heading out for an event.SLTNLNTFTC
After meeting a friend at the Monday Morning Cafe in Thornleigh for lunch, I stopped at the station for the required info. Once the calculations were done, GZ and cache were found quickly. TFTC!
Woohoo! Another SideTracked to go for. All worked well with the search and a quick find was made after getting the right numbers. Lived here in Pennant Hills and many things have changed in the last 70+ years. The staion has changed greatly, as have many of the shops. Our thanks go to Calypso62 for SideTracked cache find No. 169. FP for the fun.
Just out for a few caches this morning with ilook4geo and decided to add a couple of SideTracked caches to the list. This was a good multi cache with easy to work out numbers and an achievable cache placement. The container was a strong one too. This is SideTracked cache number 175 on our tally. Thanks go to Calypso62 for this cache, which gets a FPfor the experience.
Wow, what a day!!! I decided I'd have a SideTracked day today and maybe even, get the remaining half dozen hides in Sydney that I haven't found yet ... and since this series is about train stations, I figured why not do it by train, all for the princely sum of $2.50. It's been an interesting day, catching trains on lines, like the T4, T3, and T5, that I haven't been on in decades! But it's been a long day! All up, I think I've been on 12 separate trains ... and I'd guess I spent about 8 hours on them. One thing I've certainly learnt from all that travel ... suburban train seats are not at all well cushioned! After stops at Petersham, Sutherland, Lakemba, Quakers Hill and Marayong today, I'm pleased to be finally on my final sidetrack of the day ... and I must admit I was relieved to learn (after going through all the preparatory rigmarole) that the cache is close to the station, and even moreso, that it was a straightforward findThanks C62 for providing another opportunity for me to add to my SideTracked finds tally, which I think is now getting towards 80.
Parking in PH - hopeless, no wonder the people round here catch the train.I did find somewhere to leave the geomobile and headed off to find the required plaque. I've never seen the Station Master given recognition at the time of upgrades before. I do remember the upgrade to this station as I used to walk my dog up here as there was a good cake shop here, but sadly it's gone.Well I always carry plenty of pens, but paper, thought I had some but well in the end I had to rely on the memory for the calculations. It must be still working as I got the green light from the checker first go and checked out the special place. Then it was off to GZ. I hadn't looked at the map, just followed the arrow so I had no idea where I was being taken. At 8m I decided to keep my eyes peeled for a container. Found it - wasn't expecting that type!Once upon a time muggles in the establishment 'over there' would have been able to keep an eye on you at GZ, but they ruined a nice character building and now it's a solid wall so it's only passing muggles to watch out for. There were none while I was at GZ today, all keeping out of the rain, but it could be busy. TFTC Another for my SideTracked tally, #61Cache # 5980
Find #: 3,544Companions: NoneMuggles: Not manyWeather: Grey autumn morningCache condition: GoodI literally passed GZ an hour before this was published, sigh, but decided I wasn't up to returning when I saw the e-mail; instead, I decided to go for a jog after dropping the kidlets at school. It was a pleasant set of undulations from Thornleigh, and I was soon at WP1 where I quickly found the required details (although, of course, relied on mental arithmetic to calculate the co-ords - mistake!) I jogged over to GZ for a quick find of a classic C62 container - TNLNSL - then turned the volume up to down out the traffic on my return jog up PHR. Thanks for a nice simple ST multi
[FTF] @ 10.34pm!After a spicy dinner at my in-laws, I double checked this to see if FTF was still up for grabs - havnt gotten a C64 FTF yet, so was pretty keen to give it a go. A quick straightforward multi once on site.Love this station - when I was in uni, most of my mates lived on the central coast - so Id take the M60 here to Penno, and then go from here to Hornsby, and then again to the Woy. Spent a lot of time waiting at this station, both at the bus stop, as well as the platform. Havnt been back since they put in that new third track between Epping-Thornleigh.Tftc!
