As we had an unexpected trip south today, we took the opportunity to look for caches in the recently published Highway 1 series. Today we looked for the caches as we headed south - tomorrow we will look for caches on the other side of the highway as we head north. This is an excellent series with well designed caches placed thoughtfully and with safe parking very close by. There were some interesting cache containers, with one particular style we hadn't seen previously - a great design used in a number of hides. Unless stated otherwise, coordinates were accurate (within 5m) and the caches were in good condition. The CO's, quite rightly, have included a very important warning about walking from one side of the highway to the other. It would be remiss of us not to add another. *In some places there are U-turn bays which allow safe access to a cache on the other side of the highway. However, once on the other side, the same access cannot be used safely nor legally to return to the original direction of travel - instead backtracking in the direction opposite of your intended travel is necessary before resuming your original direction of travel.* If possible, the caches are best tackled by looking for those on the side of the road you are travelling, not the other side of the highway. Today we travelled south and were able to find 17 without crossing the highway. We will look for the other 16 tomorrow as we travel north.**Another of the unique style of cache hides.**Thanks Tas_Geo for this cache and the very enjoyable series.
Today was finally the day to move on from Penstock to Oatlands as we edge closer to Hobart and our impending departure to the UK for Christmas. My excitement is building.Last one in this series for today for me. Quick find as now I know what to look for and then watched the resident farmer bringing a mob of sheep and lambs under the highway and into the paddock right at GZ. TFTC ??
Thanks Tas_Geo for placing South York Plains Highway 1 (Tasmania). Swampy and I headed back to plunder more of the Northern coast over the Hobart Show long weekend. 4 day long weekend for 1 days annual leave. Sweet. This is day 5. We are heading for Hobart, as slowly as possible. . At least my log is not full of bad 80s references. This run has us finding both GC and GCA caches. So many caches, so little time. This is my GC find #2270 and was found on 28/10/2024 at 12:24FTF: Found with: selfWeather: fairMuggles: noneLight level: goodCache condition: goodDistance from GZ: Your cache was visited by my trackables: TB9QQD2, TB9KZ39 and TB7HH81
A new series of caches on the Midland Highway published in the week before I was heading north for the 'Hobart Show Day' long weekend - nice one.Today we were heading home after a lovely weekend on the northwest coast and collecting all the 'southbound' caches.Another successful find here. Thanks for the effort with these containers.
**FTF** 12:40pmBeing such a nice day we decided to go for a casual drive along the Midland Highway with our grandson. He was very excited to find some treasure. We had this newly published series in mind but sometimes we had to wait for our return journey to grab some of them.We had a lovely lunch in Oatlands which was very relaxing and we decided to continue along the Highway for a few more caches. We were delighted to be in the town when the unusual decorated cars paraded through the town!! This one was found quickly as we are now use to the hide.TFTC
