Nice quick find here today with 2Bulbars as we head up Scott's road and onto arapuke for a bit of mtn biking and of course geocaching. It's quite amazing how these little settlements sprung up overnight and only lasted a couple of years. Thanks for the placement and the smiley
What a great place to visit. Ideal for a Waymark too. Gets a FP from me for the adventure. That's quite a road. Direct to the geocache shows 1.59km, but it's actually 4.78km by Scott's Road.No sooner had I started back then the sun came out.
We needed to get out for some fresh air today and to go to town, so took a little deviation out to this spot first. It was certainly fresh up here and it was certainly all quiet in the cache vicinity. The clouds were gathering and it was beginning to look quite gloomy - seemed a bit of an isolated and forlorn spot in those conditions and we agree with the previous log that it is a bit Denniston-like. The road up is narrow and winding with a lot more ruts and pot holes than we remembered from coming up here for orienteering events years ago. We also needed to watch out for traffic coming down too fast and cutting corners as happened twice as we drove up - once with a ute and once with a motor bike. We avoided them because we were going carefully. We were struck by the large areas of young pine forest now planted across the hills. There were still good views to be had out to the west although very hazy this afternoon.Near GZ room to park off the road across the way was appreciated and the cache was very quickly located with good coordinates and good cache page information. Thank you edvern for drawing our attention to this episode in local history, and thanks for bringing us back up here and a bit of nostalgia. TFTC
Second to find Driven our little manual, no power steering fire truck up here a few times so it was nice to take the ute up for a change and enjoy the ride and views. The history was interesting. Didnt know there was a whole settlement up here. Very Dennison-like. One can only imagine what it would have been like living up here in a tiny isolated community. A fave from me due to introducing me to some history on my doorstep I didnt know about. Mihi ki a koe, edvern, mo te keteroki #258
