What a fabulous event this was with so many willing geocachers coming along to help clean up the nooks and crannies around the shoreline of Barangaroo.Thankfully, the weather gods looked after us, for the most partBig congratulations to **JG9172** on his milestone of **3,000 Finds**. Well done.Congratulations to **oldmorty** who was declared our **Official FTF**.Thank you to all who came along to help make this such a successful event.I'm thinking this might become a regular one. ??Some photos of the day added.
I haven't been to Barangaroo for ages; I think the last time I was in this area was for Vivid, but it was at least two years ago. So what better excuse than to come and help clean up the area a bit. What's more, the Metro from the Hills stops conveniently close. It was a huge turn-out of eager cachers, mostly fighting over tiny little scraps of polystyrene and other small items: the area was actually quite clean for the most part. Yet, we still managed to collect a good bag each of little bits and pieces of stuff that didn't belong here, mostly from the cracks and gaps in the sandstone blocks. My grabber proved very useful in extracting things from nooks and crannies that were too deep and narrow for me to reach into with my hands. The rain held off for the entire event, and only once the group event photos had been taken did the heavens open up for a few minutes. I had intended finding a few more caches in the area, but with the inclement weather I concentrated only on one TFTC and an Adventure Lab in the area. There will be future opportunities to make a few more finds ...Thanks for a pleasant outing to the city to clean up our playing field.
I was going to bring my grabber on the trains, but I thought it might get me into trouble and kicked off my Metro. I'll have gloves, so I'll bend the back to collect any rubbish around Barangaroo.
On my way. Hope the drizzle stops. And unlike **Brew** I have no shame. Grabber incoming!
A nice event in a beautiful location. Shame theres rubbish at all but the CITO Crusaders and I cleaned all of it up. TFTE
A fantastic gathering of cachers to clean up this beautiful part of the city and finally my first family geocaching event with @Mr&MrsFish! At first we thought the area was pristine but those sandstone blocks definitely hide some serious rubbish volumes! Thanks for organising Calypso62, great to finally put a face to a legendary geocaching handle.
So much styrofoam! Thanks for organising this clean up and a great turnout as well. Oh, and the KitKats!!??
Thanks for hosting a cracker of an event Calypso62!Good to see so many people out and actually paradoxically good to see so little trash as well. TFTCITO!
My first ever CITO in The City. And what a great location to hold it: Barangaroo. This meant I could catch "my" Metro directly to the posted coords. There was a good turn out of eager CITO Crusaders who came along to help clear the shoreline of rubbish. Grabbing our bags and gloves, we spread out and got to work (sans grabber for Brew). Well, it looked like everyone was out there doing something, and not shirking their duties, as requested by the CO.From a distance it looked clean, but when you get up close there was quite a large haul of bits and pieces lying between the sandstone blocks. The council have done a pretty good job, but we still managed to fill plenty of bags. And just as the event came to an end, the heavens opened. Well planned with the timing Mr C62.I was a bit disappointed not to see Mr TFTC make an appearance and help out, given he has so many caches around The City. Maybe he needs to get a personal invitation next time. TFTE C62
TFT Event,What a great attendance. Not to many surprises but I had to be careful with a syringe and didn'ttry the contents of the mixer size bottle of Red Lable. Note to self, bring a long steel rod next time.Came along to build numbers for my day count and a challenge that requires a non traditional find on every calendar day. Bonus was to get the CITO souvenir.Visited trackables.
Attended, what a great turn up, to help clean up the area. It was a surprise that we could find any rubbish, the area looked so clean. Thanks to Calypso62 for arranging.
Arrived 20 minutes early - "my" Metro is so efficient - but at least I wasn't first here. A few minutes later the EO turned up, then other attendees started to swell the numbers that were very impressive by the end.A bit of drizzle before the allotted time, and then after the official photos were done it restarted. In other words it stayed dry for the event. My grabber proved very useful in retrieving those annoying bits of crumbly styrofoam from the crevices between the sandstone blocks! If I was paid by the piece I'd be rich. I should mention that while cleaning up more than one member pf the public thanked me for doing it - an unexpected bonus,Thanks to the EO for organising, and as a bonus, the souvenir was also obtained.SLTNLNTFTCito
The last time we were in this area there was plenty of rubbish floating along the waterline, but this time the place looked really clean. So we went with lots of others to check out between the sandstone blocks and it was surprising what was hidden there. It proved to be a very worthwhile and successful CITO. It was also good to catch up with cachers we have not seen for while. Thanks go to Calypso62 for hosting this event.
This CITO was a good event, with quite a lot of rubbish gathered from between the large sandstone blocks. Some was also collected from the grassed areas. A lot of people turned up, which meant a lot of rubbish has been removed. A job well done! TFTC (and for the KitKats reward) go to Calypso62.
What a fantastic event! My first CITO and my 3000th find!!! Yay! and l cant think of a better way to celebrate but at an event with this amazing geo community. And! My whole family also came along to meet everyone for the first time! We were soon at it having a great time collecting lots of little bits of polystyrene!! Huge shout out to Calypso62 for organising such a well attended event at a lovely location then gathering all for the group picture and having them join in my 3k celebration, huge thanks to everyone! Also with KitKats to go! Yay! Thanks for such a memorable event Calypso62 ??????????
How lucky was that, raining all day except for the hour or so of the CITO.As it turned out, like most of the crew I also caught the Metro to Barangaroo. I've not been off at this station before so it was interesting to see the new station. What a great turn out!I thought with the dismal weather there'd only be a few of us, but you just never can tell. It looked very clean around GZ as I walked from the station, much better than the last time I was here. Still we all took a bag and began to search around. It's amazing how much rubbish we managed to collect from the rocks, in the plantings and on the pathway. I even found 3 beer bottles. There was actually enough rubbish to keep the group busy for the full hour as we worked, chatting to each other. Enjoy celebrating with JG9172 as he marked his 3000th cache find. Also enjoyed our reward, the KitKats.TFTE C62# 6302
With tomorrow's predicted hot 32 plus temperatures we decided on a Saturday afternoon caching adventure in the city, instead of our regular Sunday public transport caching adventures, to attend a CITO Event at Barangaroo. Drove to Crows Nest, where we collected a SideTracked cache and an Adventure Lab stage, then hopped onto a Metro train to the new Barangaroo Metro Station, collecting another Adventure Lab stage as we exited the station. Walked the short distance down to the CITO location at Nawi Cove but, as we were half an hour early, we continued walking further around Barangaroo Reserve to an Adventure Lab stage before returning to the CITO meeting point. This was the 5th of 5 finds for the day. After arriving on the Metro train and collecting an Adventure Lab stage at the Metro station, and then walking around Barangaroo Reserve for another Adventure Lab stage, we returned to the CITO meeting point at Nawi Cove for the CITO Event. A small crowd had already gathered, and we joined them and signed the log sheet, and were then each issued with a rubbish collection bag. Set to work scouring the area for rubbish, concentrating on the gaps between the large sandstone blocks, where there were lots of small bits of rubbish like white polystyrene foam and plastics. Had come prepared with a grabber tool, which worked really well for getting down into the deep narrow gaps between the stone blocks. The hour passed quite quickly, and then we all gathered together with our "bags of booty" for a group photo, with a special photo shoot to celebrate JG9172's 3000 milestone find marked with family held number cards. Congratulations to JG9172 on reaching & marking the milestone. After bidding our farewells, and collecting a yummy "Kit Kat" reward from the CO, we headed off back up to the Barangaroo Metro Station to commence our journey homeward. Thanks Mr C for organising this CITO Event, which attracted quite a sizeable crowd of cachers, and giving us all an opportunity to help clean-up part of our beautiful harbour foreshore.Find #7155
Thanks Calypso62 for organising what became my first CITO event. The rain earlier on the day made me worried it would be cancelled, but I knew this level of water from the skies would not deter seasoned geocachers like the other attendees.
A good turnout here today! (despite the weather!)Thanks Calypso62 for the event!
#7794Caught the Metro to Barangaroo on this overcast afternoon to join a large gathering of CITO warriors to clean up around the large sandstone blocks. While there was generally not much rubbish visible, on closer inspection, quite a bit was wedged in between the blocks and often required extreme coaxing to remove. Ended up with a bag full of rubbish for my efforts. Thanks for hosting C62
#6331After enjoying lunch in the QVB, I ventured down to CITO GZ with my wife. Although arriving early, there were a few geocachers in attendance ready for the event. Soon more arrived and it was time to get to work. Initial inspection revealed very little in the way of rubbish however when you looked closely at the cracks between the sandstone blocks, lots of small bits were found. Extracting them was going to be the challenge. A very hardy group did exactly that and lots of rubbish was collected. It was fantastic to see so many people attend this event. ??
This was an excellent day's outing, needing a drive to Hornsby then train and Metro to Barangaroo where we joined LegoLads, our favourite son. Great to meet up with Calypso 62 after a long time, with several others we have not seen for some time. The rubbish collection was not easy as the area was fairly clean, but there was quite a lot in total. Thanks to Bruce for organising thr event, well worth the travel down from the Central Coast.
Even though it was an overcast day we had a good number attend which I am sure the CO was pleased . It was hard going without the grabber which would have helped pulling out the large amount of Styrofoam amongst other items caught in the crevices of the large boulders . Thank you Calypso62 for organising and putting it on . Good time was had .
Never had so much fun collecting rubbish. At first glance, the area looked pristine. But as we looked closer we could see lots of rubbish lying between the cracks of the huge sandstone blocks. Not having the right tools made it difficult. We gave it a good go though. Thanks Calypso62 for organising the CITO.
First to arrive and (FTF). Maybe I should arrive early at future events. A very well attended event by young and old, all eager to find some trash. Thanks for organising this CITO Calypso62.
Hoping to make it to this CITO Event, with a Saturday afternoon ride on the Metro, in lieu of our usual Sunday public transport caching adventures.
The two of us will head down from the Central Coast via older style trains and the Metro. Really looking forward to it.
The weather forecast for tomorrow afternoon is looking quite reasonable. The Metro is also running if this works for you to get to Barangaroo Station.I'll be supplying plastic bags and I'll also have disposable gloves if you need them.Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Being close to home, all going well on the day, I think we (the family) are up for a bit of CITO, yay!
Could possibly be a free Saturday, and that doesn't happen very often. At this stage it's in the calendar.Unfortunately the Metro doesn't come close enough to home for me.
Will try and get down for this event. Not many CITO events happen at home. I'll keep you posted
Very close to my work which I would usually avoid on a Saturday but worth it to finally meet Calypso in person! Will try and persuade @Mr&MrsFish to head down too
