Always nice to get a slice of history, but this story left us not really any the wiser... Cache is all good. TFTC
A plan was made with Net61 to find the caches along the HRT trail. We have ridden the trail before, but today we were doing it with 4 wheels (car) rather than 2 (bike). The sun was out, but the day was not too hot - perfect weather for this series. A nice quick stop here and we soon had the cache in hand. We stopped to check out the nice views of the waterfall as well as to read the interesting plaque about the school on this site in 1908. TFTC
Interesting to read the plaque...about the site of the original school...and local hall .Gorby probably found the cache while I was reading all about it!
I had a plan to come down from Auckland with supernannny to do the HRT trail from Te Aroha to Matamata. But she had offered to drive us everywhere in her hybrid car which is soo cheap to run and which was really nice of her. It was pouring with rain when she arrived to pick me up at 7am, did some caches along the way apart from the power trail, visited a friend in Hamilton for a much needed coffee, then home about 10pm. Supernannny had to negotiate a large puddle as she exited the car to get to the cache, mind you, she wouldn't have been any wetter than she was if she had walked thru it. I think I noticed a disused netball court here in the field? Used to be a school here I think, probably would have been more informed if I read the plaque.
Had been down in Opotiki recommissioning equipment. The line started up well with minimal issues. With everything going well I could head back to Auckland. Of course had to make a few stops on the way!I also wanted to complete this leg of the HRT series which I had started on my way down to Opotiki. There were a few caches before that but on the same road so it seemed rude not to attempt these as well.Back onto the HRT trail now. Quick find my side of the road heading home.TFTC
Part 2 to complete the new HRT caches, tail wind on the bike. All caches in good nick... Thanks for setting these up.
This has been a very enjoyable trail some great hide and quick find thanks for the afternoon
**#21,194**Spotted the plaque first and some interestinghistory of the area here, soon got the cache once I looked at the correct corner...
Got a call from Boges to have an afternoon clearing this trail of caches. Been past here many times and was not aware of this plaque. So spent time reading while we signed the cache. Thank you for the placement.
It was the first day back at school for the kids so it was a peaceful afternoon with KGD to go for a country drive and get these treasures. The weather forecast was for heavy showers but they went around us. Thanks for putting this together
What an interesting location, and one we would never have known about had this cache not brought us here. It's hard to imagine the school and community hall that once stood here as there is no sign of where the buildings were. But the netball court and pool are still there so it helps us to form a picture in our heads.Such a great historic spot. The cache was soon located and the log signed. We are loving exploring the trail and discovering all the interesting places along the way.
On a mish with the NZ Flossy. A great day for it A nice trail to get our heads back in the game before heading to Dunedin. Many thanks.
Day trip with McJandals collecting these new caches. Having fun catching up and discussing how we should have got our bikes Oh well next time . Thanks for putting out all these caches and giving us a good day. TFTC
Awesome park and grab! We are on a mission to find as many caches as we can in 1 hour
Having an influx of emails this morning, Kiwi Does Stuff and ourselves made our way over to complete this trail. Appreciate the caches! All were found in good condition.
