Logs
Very fond memories here from the past few years. Up until this year, Rawhitiroa School would host the 'Rural Cluster Cross country' on their field. This involved Toko, Ngaere, Pembroke, Midhirst, Huiakama, Makahu and Marco Schools but then this year that was changed and most schools began hosting their own or would join up with other schools. I attended three cross countries here - two times as a student teacher at Pembroke and Ngaere and thirdly as a Teacher with Marco school. These days were always quite the event and its a shame that some of these schools no longer meet up as it was great for the smaller schools for the children to find people of similar ages. I remember the first year I had no idea what I was doing and I ended up dragging an umbrella around with me all day just to help me with the pain of standing all day. The next year I was well prepared. I say I have fond memories of this place but I am sure there are a few kidlets around who don't. The younger ones would run close to the school but the older ones would have to run up and around the nearby hill - mud puddles, thorn bushes and cow pats were no problems for our rural little people:) I had observed the wetlands from the school field but today I saw a different view of them. There was also a working bee going on nearby but I was generally able to avoid attention while signing the log. It was only as I was leaving that I had a good look at the school field where all the above schools used to assemble and I realised how small that field actually was, it looks very different not covered with people and gazebos.
