On a Tasmanian sebaticle, and after an overnight trip on the Spirit, meandered our way across the top of Tassie on our way to Binalong bay. I had not planned any caches along the way, only looking in places we decided to take a break or a little look.We came to George Town over 15 years ago I would say, and things have certainly changed over that time. After the Geomissus had had enough of the howling winds, she returned to the vehicle while I headed down to this location. Lots of the little wallabies here. I initially had a location in mind relating to the hint, but this was to prove incorrect. Circled around and located. Signed replaced and took the scenic route back.
Always great to find a golden oldie and this one also helps for a challenge I am working towards. Sadly I doubt the challenge will be met but will keep trying .Whilst husband read all the info boards about the foghorn and lighthouse I headed down the hill to collect the cache. Thanks so much for keeping this oldie alive. TFTC
Thanks The Animal Cachers for hiding this cache, I needed a find for today to update my calendar and find streak. This is my find #1487 at 14:40 on 29/3/2024.
Found with tassie expat while exploring this interesting area. Short stroll, short search, well hidden. Thanks
Found a way down and found the cache between muggles. Took a short search. Great views. Alas, will miss the fog horn on Sunday. TFTC
Don't be misguided! Well hidden....you need your own pen...I forgot mine again, hence photo of cache.....but not a spoiller
TFTC. Cache and contents in good condition. Beautiful day for caching no wind and not too hot. Always good to get an oldie.
Out this way on a day trip with family. First stop was BellBuoy beach, then off to Low Head for fish and chips. We had tried for some caches in the area with no luck, so was hoping for some success. Grabbed a quick park n grab nearby and then headed to this one with the family. After admiring the lighthouse up close, we headed through the gate and started the trek down the hill. I think I took one track left too far so had to do a loop around to the right to get to the cache. But on arrival at GZ, geoson minisqwash found the hide pretty quick whilst climbing around the rocks. It's a beautiful view here and a great little spot for a cache, but especially for my 600th cache. The trek back up the hill definitely wasn't as fun but still this gets a favourite from me.
Found back 10th July 2019, delete if not allowed. In amongst reading all the history we just sat and admired the area, we had a 10 day family trip and as usual we were blown away with Tassies scenery.cracker spor and thanks for placing and maintaining this scache. Very special area Toolman
A short hunt and cache was soon spotted, what a beautiful spot couldn't stay long because I'd left geodog and geopartner in the car. Tftc
What a beautiful spot to come find this cache on a beautiful day. Took the 2 tbs Sl thanks for the Old cache
Found after a short search. While looking something scaly moved close by but fortunately it had legs and wasn't of any concern. After we headed back to the carpark a local showed us and others some penguins nesting nearby which we were very fortunate to see. Thanks for the hide.
This one was awesome- we came out here in search of some seafood for lunch and the old cache. The lighthouse was not doing its foghorn but we were able to listen to audio using the QR code on the information board. There was a guy there looking in on the nesting penguins and we saw one tucked into the spiky bushes nesting away. It was very precious. This is a very special part of the world and we came back later that night to watch the penguins come in to feed their babies. The cache took a bit of looking- I was looking for a regular size but it has changed over the years. Put in two travel bugs that I took from America. TFTC
A perfect and clear day. Amazing walk down from the lighthouse. What a beautiful part of the world. TFTC
Found this on 3/8 and left our trackable flip flops. Tried to log at the time but it obviously didn’t work. The cache wasn’t where we expected and we enjoyed the hunt. Such a wonderful spot, we were there late afternoon and enjoyed “golden hour” across this beautiful landscape. TFTC
Loudest cache ever
We learned that there’s really big crabs here and
The sound of a foghorn is amplified by fog and travels between the fog and the top of the ocean

Well worth the trip. Location is picturesque and us Canadians were not fazed by the mild winter winds. Almost couldn't find the cache until a younger pair of eyes spotted the obvious.
Jetstar was having a sale…. in the middle of winter, for a destination further south than I already live. That sounds like a great idea!
So a plan for a 4 night whirlwind tour of the northern part of the state was hatched. I’ve seen lots of this beautiful state, but haven’t found a single cache. With plenty of challenges to tick off, and a long list of targeted caches, this week is the time to turn that around.
Todays adventure takes me west from Launceston to St Helens via Beaconsfield, Low Head, Bridport and Scottsdale.
A lovely view from here and managed to spot the cache relatively quickly.
Thanks The Animal Cachers for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

After an unexpected bonus FTF this morning (bonus!), then needing to Holler for a Marshall, I've finally arrived here (with my mostly-muggle sister-in-law) to look for this golden oldie, the main target for the day.
Parked as the only car in the carpark, donned beanies, and walked via the lighthouse and down to GZ.
A quick find - gotta luv that - under dull drab gloomy skies and cold winds.
No fog though, so no foghorn!
So nice to tick off the final old school challenge cache.
Walked back via a waterfront circuit up to the carpark.
I'm up north for a couple of nights on family business. It's been decades since I was last at Low Head - Sunday School picnics probably, at East Beach or Lagoon Bay.
Thanks so much; for this caching experience, and for bringing me here - again.
Cheers, EPs.

OzHockeyChick shouted me a return flight to Launceston for my birthday. So grateful for this awesome gift and so very pleased to have her with me to celebrate. We got diverted to Hobart which definitely wasn't part of our tight schedule. Once we arrived in our original destination, we picked up the car and were on our way. What a great location for a cache. There were a few muggles about but they weren't near us so the find was able to be made. Thanks for placing this cache for us to find.
A 'Thelma & Louise' style weekend away with Geoturtle37, to celebrate her recent milestone birthday. We are flying in to Launceston on Friday afternoon, returning to Melbourne on Sunday evening. Our carefully planned itinerary includes selected LGAs, placement dates, DTs and high faves. If we manage to find them all, we can expect 186 smilies in total.
Needing a 2002 cache, we targetted this one. Stopped to take lots of photos before heading down where GT spotted the cache safely tucked away. No penguins spotted today.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, The Animal Cachers

Bush Track and I had a joint day out caching in the area, it was enjoyable to spend the time together. We had 25 Finds, 1 DNF, and 1 we had to leave due to a Snake!
Easy Find
Thanks, The Animal Cachers for placing this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment

We arrived at the closed gate, but quickly spotted the opening allowing us to still visit this beautiful place. It was around sunset on what had been a sunny day with hardly any wind. S_38 spotted a penguin in their nest. Ot was tempting to stay longer, but we needed dinner and to find a place to sleep. Thanks for the cache with a view!

I really enjoyed my visit to the lighthouse. A wander down to GZ and I soon had the cache in hand. Log was signed and I was back to the carpark. Nice day at Low Head today. Thanks for the geo-fun.

Over the long weekend xxDouDouxx and I made a plan to knock off several challenge caches including caches from "Old School Challenge" GC44WV0 and "Tasmanian Mainland LGA Challenge" GC8CGMX, as well as a few caches for various statistic grids. I'm happy to say LGA is now complete and Old School is well on the way. A fantastic, busy, and adventure filled 3 days was had, covering 1500km from Huonville, to Ben Lomond, then Georgetown, across the top to Burnie, down through Waratah, Queenstown, and back to Huonville. Lots of great caches, new places to explore, fantastic views, and interesting locations...Awesome spot. Arrived just before dark. Saw 1 penguin in it's nest. Cache found fairly easily and in good condition. Was great to see the lighthouse working in the glow of the evenings last light.
Today we are exploring the area north of Launceston, with a road trip up to Low Head.We parked, then made our way past the lighthouse and down towards GZ. On our way we were hailed by one of the volunteers who took us to see a couple of penguin chicks in a late nest under one of the thick shrubs growing here. Surely this must be the same friendly man that several other folk mention in their logs. We eventually made our way to GZ and located the cache after a little hunt. Thanks.
Never bee up this way before, so decided to travel all the way as far as we could up the east bank of the Tamar River. Made it to the lighthouse, read the info about the unique nature of the foghorn, then wandered down to find a foghorn.
Cheers, and thanks for bringing us to this place!

YAY- found Fog Horn today. 1st cache on day 2 of our Great Tassie 2023 Caching Adventure. An awesome spot for a cache. Loved visiting GZ. TFHC

A great little cache in a good spot. Famished fox, aspitbiker and I found it just before a lovely man came and showed us some cute penguins in their nests.TFTC.
Same We saw a lovely bloke who showed us the penguins ?? they were very cute ?? and we also walked round ourselves. TFTC??
We also (as per other logs) had a lovely man come and show us some penguins after we had found this cache. Great spot and well worth the visit. TFTC
TFTC! Didn’t understand the hint but managed to get the cache still.
A wonderful man came and saw us and showed us some little penguins which was so sweet. A beautiful spot for any cache or lighthouse enthusiast.

Up north today to collect a mate from Low Head (a Muggle but one that is interested in Geocaching... more happy for me doing it than himself, so i won't hold it against him )
I was to be leaving in less than an hour so i really wanted to get this one due to it's age and fascinating spot with the old lighthouse and all
After a bit of a search around i had the cache in hand and was SL at 11:35 on Boxing Day 2022.
A Favorite Point here for this one's age and location
I didn't spot any penguins but I'm sure they're about

Day 2 of our Tasmanian Odyssey… The plan is to attend Grumbligrot’s Celebration Event in Georgetown and target some oldies before and after… that and anything else that grabs my attention in the area…
This cache was on the list… I’ve never found a cache of this vintage… Arriving with no expectations, I was blown away, both literally and physically… this is a spectacular location… I added another layer of clothing, Queensland is wet, but not this cold and headed up and over…
After disturbing a pademelon on the way down it didn’t take long to find the cache…
After making our mark, I replaced the snap lock bag and returned everything as found…

Wow, this is a great location! The information at the lighthouse regarding the foghorn is fascinating, and what a journey to get it operational again! Oh, AND I SAW PENGUINS FOR THE FIRST TIME haha, just needed to get that out. Actually there were lots of firsts on my northern Tasmanian adventure.. except the Ben Nevis hike. I climbed a Ben Nevis in Scotland but that’s another story Thanks for the cache, in good order. Cheers
I have grouped this traditional cache generic log pertaining to each CO. I shall only deviate from the generic if there was an issue with the cache .
I would like to thank all of you for your time and effort in placing and maintaining your caches, and this generic log has nothing to do with disrespecting your time in placing them out there, as it has to do with time restraints due to the great number of caches my partner dalerious and I signed here.
EACH and every cache we visited was special, and we thank you so much. Most were chosen to qualify for Challenge caches both here and on the mainland .
There are too many of you to name individually so please accept that I acknowledge you all and I am truly grateful for your contribution and understanding .
We had this trip to Tasmania on our wish list very soon after we met. The meticulous planning began a few months ago when we finally set a date to sail to a place that I had been before, but never cached, and for dalerious, a place he cached, but never really got to see the real beauty of this place, and all it's glory. God's country about sums it up.
We started our adventure in the North West and traversed the entire Island in 10 days. We thought the weather was going to thwart our plans, but all it did was change the itinerary a tad.
Where back home was flooding, we had mostly sunshine here; apart from the North of your lovely state, and our thoughts were with those who were affected both here and at home.
Caches here took us to extraordinary places; one's we will never forget.
We also got to meet some cachers; we can't wait to meet the rest .

Today we found Foghorn Leghorn on our travels. We are on another visit from Melbourne just because…well, maybe it’s all those puzzles we solved during those many lockdowns! Having the opportunity to sign some actual logs is exciting!
We had a lovely walk here when EB99 used the imaginative technique of falling towards the cache hide and smashing her nose, scratching her glasses etc allowing me to make the find while she recovered.
We are now dosing the patient with strong coffee and sweety, sweet pastry treats.
Thanks The Animal Cachers for being part of our geocaching fun.

Geofamily holiday to Tassie. Headed this way and saw this oldie so had to stop! Amazing location and history here. Thanks for the cache
Found today in good condition. Beautiful sunny day, no fog . Found with lexirover. Tftc
Exploring the Tamar valley and saw the penguins at Low Head last night. We decided to come up and visit the light house today and look for nearby caches with success! TFTC in this lovely spot.
Ran into a local who showed us a penguin and it’s chick in a nest on way to cache.
An added bonus.

Found this cache at 12:41. Thanks for putting a cache here. Such an awesome place. Although we did see a dead penguin. Great having a pencil in the cache as I forgot to bring a pen so I was able to sign the log book. TFTC
I had the opposite of fog today. Pristine water and views. Amazing way to spend an afternoon. Thanks
It took a bit to find this one but we eventually came up with the goods. Would not have come down this far if it wasn’t for the cache. Bonus we saw some penguins on the rocks. Fav point for that alone from 2 West Aussies. TFTC. SL.
Didn't know what to expect arriving at the lighthouse but the obvious one was the gate closing time. We had 15mins before closing and none of us were keen to o'night in the car park. As it was, the gate remained open while we were chasing caches, and rabbits.
Didn't take too much notice of why the cache had the name Foghorn but after reading all the signage and seeing the horn, the name makes a lot of sense. Found the cache without any real trouble, thanks to the Animal Cachers for keeping this oldie active.

Down in the Apple Isle with JACS and TeamARF for a week or so to hunt some caches and traipse about having adventures. With inclement weather fading away we utilised today to grab some along dirt roads . Managed to find a few of differing varieties! A fun day despite the rainy patches! Fab puzzles and wonderful countryside. Awesome caches all round! We are thoroughly enjoying this adventure and grabbing some very well maintained oldies awesome locations Tftc
A lovely lighthouse. If only we were here on a Sunday as I’d love to hear it. No little penguins either during our visit. Just have to be satisfied with the scenery, beautiful weather and a smile on an older cache.
What an amazing spot!
Would love to be here when the fog horn sounds
I’m staying in the Lighthouse Cottage for a couple of nights …..WOW!!

Found with gwd.aussie while enjoying a tassie caching adventure. This old cache was on our list and it is good to see an older cache still alive after all this time. Thankfully we quickly had the cache in hand as we were committed to an event back in Ulverstone.
Thanks The Animal Cachers for maintaining and keeping this cache going.

Windy windy as wind thingo spins around. An impressive and I imagined spot for me that was on my LIST of older Tassie caches. So as I now head towards Devonport, I’m totally happy with 9/10 - but I’ll be back! Cache located easily and log happily signed. Barely a soul or muggle to be seen. TFTC and keeping it going - a fave from me
