Nice walk on a clear saturday morning. I did the loop to Ginger Meggs last time I was here but this time decided to walk over to the Quarry Rd trail. This has a lot more elevation gain. On my way back I got to the same contour line as the gz and headed off track. I began looking in some obvious spots and spent about 20 mins hopping around the rocks with no luck. Then after reading previous logs I found a few hints that led me to the right location. There are so many good hidey holes to hide a cache around here that I found the actual location an odd choice! 6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.Second day, we take our car to visit north of Sydney. Our circuit is planned based on caches selected for their D/T, their installation date, or the PFs received. We will discover fauna and flora different from ours. We will be surprised to come across dragons. Thanks to the caches we visited many sites evoking Australian culture and history. Thanks for the cache and the discovery of beautiful or original spots

Today I am heading to Whittlesea for the Mega grabbing some caches along. I pick up 6 today.
Thank you for the cache.

The Green Geckos and Muggle65 join me again today for lots of laughter and caching.
I found 23 today.

Day 4,
Mega day today. In morning with The Green Geckos and Muggle65 and I hit the challenge series. With 27 finds and a DNF. But of course 17 I don’t qualify for 17 Plus about 40 waypoints from different Adventure labs.
Over all I got 68 finds today. The breakdown was the Mega, Community Celebration, Cito, Letterbox, 2 multi, 2 virtual, 2 earthcache, 9 traditional and 10 mystery.
I had lots of fun today.

Day 5,
Homeward Bound today towards Sydney for some old caches of course Lane Cove was the main target.
My caching buddies are still with me. It was bit of push to get to these caches. With all the driving to get here. We still had lots of fun.
I found 14 caches today. The breakdown is, 2 earthcache, 2 traditional, 7 virtual, 2 multi, and a mystery.

Day 6,
Sydney to Maitland

Thank you CO for the placement and maintenance you do. Lot of these caches help me finishing other challenge caches.

Sorry for the generic log
Thanks Brislions

That was kind of an adventure. I took the Blue Gum Trail from Ginger Meggs Park to get here. The distance is not too far but of course it's taking some time plus also requires some breaks to enjoy the many nice places along the track. Arriving at the GC I could find the box pretty quick using one of the photos in previous logs.

Today we went on a walk down the trail at the end of Quarry Road. What a beautful spot this is, from the sandy fire trails with low green grass, purple flowers and grey shrub up top, and the carved out rock steps down to the quiet water at the bottom. loved the spot, and glad we could grab a cache on the way.

So mad to see that it was this cache, because I had been eyeing it for a while since the Hornet was in here, but didnt really know where the cache was. Arrived near GZ, and bushbashed our way towards the cache. Punched the coords in my Garmin for a closer gauge but we couldnt find anything at this spot. The hint also meant nothing to me so we were stuck scratching our heads. Being on a time limit, we gave up and as we walked back I spied one likely hide and there it was, about 10m from coords.

Opened her up and signed, glad to find one today after failing to find a mystery earlier. TFTC!! hopefully I can claim the hornet soon.

Came out for some Covid legal exercise. The trail was busy with lots of muggles out enjoying the warm weather. Close to GZ, by the trail there was a group of muggles having a picnic. Guess they must have wondered what we were doing wandering into the bush, not far from where they were. We counted on them ignoring us, which proved to be the case. Found the cache reasonably quickly. What an awesome spot. We love caches like this one that take us to beautiful spots. The cache deserves all the FPs that it has earned. We've given it one too. Thanks Sucitram for maintaining the cache.

The walk on the trail was fun and at some places a really rock hopping.
At GZ it was an easy find.

I found the small temporary container that origmaininja placed in a now relatively clear section of bush. Following a PAF I’m reasonably confident that it’s in the correct location and that the burnt up swag in the cache are the remnants of the original cache contents. Sadly the original log, and its camouflage burnt up.

Knowing that a replacement log was required I came prepared. Not prepared enough as unfortunately my log book was too large for the current container. I’ll aim to bring another container by soon.

Like many others I took the difficult way up, hopping across the river via a very large rock. After scrambling up the rocks and finding the path I should have taken all along, I set out on my search for the cache.

I used the coordinates suggested by some other caches and struggled to find anything. However in the end I found what I think was the cache .

It seems like the bushfires finally got the better of this cache. I found a burnt carrabina, a metal peg that was fused shut, the remains of a small plastic toy, a piece of a nice shell, a rusted spring (from the log?) and two bits of pencil lead minus the pencil. These were all right next to a very black little tree.

Its a weird feeling finding the remains of a very old cache and I'm sad I didn't get to see it before the fire.

Thanks for the cache. I put everything into a small box I had with me with the only paper I had on hand as a log and covered it with a little camo. I think this cache can live on, bit a new log will be needed, so I'll mark it as needing maintenance and hopefully someone can give it some care.

Walking out to the fishponds was a walk I had wanted to do years ago, but had since forgot about it. It recently came back on my radar, so had planned to make this my weekend wander.
It was the most perfect winters day, and turns out we weren't the only ones to have the great idea to come down here. We must have waited 15 minutes for our turn to cross the creek!
Once on the otherside the people thinned out, and we found a track that headed in the direction of this cache.
This got us within 80m of GZ, where we followed the rock around and were treated to a nice view at "GZ".
From here we searched and searched within a 25m radius but weren't having any luck. Eventually found and plugged in Tronadors coordinates, which led us to what should have been an easy find. I must have stepped over it numerous times.

Was a good feeling finding oldie, nice to see the original log book still in service!

Thanks for taking me here!

Decided to go out for a bush walk and stretch our legs. The GPS was playing up so we took a turn from the path and unnecessarily did some very steep rock climbing. We definitely made it harder than it needed to be! A lovely view and end result.

It's start of June and I was looking at caches in the area to find today. Realised this one has not been logged after my search in April, so here we go.
Rocked up at the GZ in late afternoon as a "I'll just pop in to see if I can get this before the sunset" walk. A nice location and I ended up spending 20-25 minutes attempting to spot the goodies, but to no avail this time around.

The smartiephone GPS insisted on a certain area in the GZ but I did resort to searching a wider area. Regardless, this one is left for another time, perhaps with a keen young one in tow to see if the fresher eyes & brains could spot this - in an instant, as it'll happen, of course... Wink

Having wanted to come down to fish ponds for sometime, I had a little time up my sleeve this afternoon for a walk. Also realising that this cache is down here too, I made the walk in from the Westleigh. I was quite surprised by the beauty in here and a very strong flow. Unfortunately the warning signs matched with the smells of chemical treatments and aromas of dish washing detergent were enough to put me off having a dip in the sewer overflow creek. A quick check of the satellite map, and I found an easy way into GZ for a surprisingly easy find given the deceptive name of the cache. Honoured to write in the original log on an oldie this close to Sydney. TFTC!!!!

25-Jan-19
I almost logged this as a DNF yesterday. I reached GZ and as I continued to search, the rarest of things happened; my phone and my GPS settled into furious agreement as to the coordinates. This caused me to concentrate my search on a particular area, but to no avail. I then expanded the search area quite significantly, but still no luck.

I made use of the Hint when I got home - I tried to freeze the chewing gum, but the silly cat wouldn't come near the freezer.

After leaving GZ I reached out to the previous finders, who kindly pointed me in the right direction. It seems I had expanded my search in only 2 of 3 possible directions. Of course the cache was hidden in the third direction. When I returned today I couldn't believe how I'd missed it. My sincerest thanks to the 2Wagtails.

Yesterday I came in via Rosemead Road, whereas today I decided to come in by Manor Road. Trust me, on a hot day Rosemead Road is the better option. I swapped a karabiner for a torch and a smaller karabiner, signed the log, and replaced camo. TFTC.

We headed out early this morning for a bushwalk and to find a few caches as we went. We started at Blue Gum Track at Ginger Meggs Park. This cache was our third find today
We went up, we went down, we went over boulders, we cooled our feet at the little waterfall, we hopped across stepping stones, a bit more up and then we went bush. Phew!
After a bit of a search we spotted the devil - not hard really. Just got to look in the right spot.
Thanks for placing this cache and adding more fun to our walk in this beaut bushland.

That was not where I was expecting to find it. Loved going through the original log book. Especially those asking how to get back haha. Loved the cache. Thanks for a cracker

06-Dec-18
My 4th and final cache for the day.
Starting at Valley Rd i made my way along Blue Gum Walk passing only a single other person along the path.
When i was about 100m from the cache i decided to bush bash my way directly to it rather than going the long way.
I found a spot to cross the creek and made my way towards the GZ. Some heavy scrub and a couple of scrambles later i made my way up the sloping rock face to the cache coords.
I knew that i wasnt going to leave without finding it so it was a relief that after only about 10mins of looking i spotted some obvious camo and had the CIH.
Thanks.

So so happy to erase a nasty old frowny dnf on this one and rack up my 99th find.

A few weeks ago I attempted this one from Westleigh. It was a hot hard slog culminating in an abandoned attempt. A bit demoralising and left me fairly well worn out. Clearly another better planned attempt was in order

So today was the day and here I am today at this beautiful place, having come down the pogson trig trail from Quarry Road. The cache is in my hand, I am not dead, rifle shots are reverberating across the valley and all is well:)

I'm very pleased to find this ancient and legendary cache. Left a karabiner. Didn’t want to leave a tb in such a remote cache but I took lucky penny Tb and will move it right along shortly.

The log is signed, thank you to The 2 Dogs for this fabulous cache.

Oh my! We made this much harder than it had to be! Mrs Gaztek spotted an Old School Challenge cache and decided that we needed to tackle some oldies but goodies and this more than met the requirements. I’ll tell the story backwards. After finding the cache we made our way back to where we parked the car on Rosemead Road. The track was really beautifully made with specially fitted sandstone steps. Getting to GZ was a completely different story. We knew that GZ was across the creek and we knew it was roughly west of the place where the fire trail met the Great North Walk. So we turned left at the trail junction. (Yes, we know there was a map. Whatever!) As GZ was approaching we looked for a place to cross the creek. We definitely did some rock hopping and crossed where some very large rocks had dropped into the creek. And then it got harder. We basically bush-bashed our way up the steep rocky hill below GZ. It was really tough, slow-going and as silly at it comes! But we made it. Really great to see a cache that has been in the wild for 17 years. And very grateful to find the track on the way back. The area was gorgeous with many of the spring blossoms still out. A favourite from us for longevity and a memorable hunt. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

Two big caching days in a row to find some specific caches in the Hornsby and North Sydney area. Great weather and reasonable traffic made for an excellent day! Followed mostly the great northern walk and that proved a good approach. Have to get back here to do some more walking, excellent area!

This would be one of the most enjoyable caches I have done in a while. Possibly helped by being in training to do the overland track in tassie and had already walked 8kms to get this far, and still had a couple more to go to get to the . Love the bush around here. Interestingly passed a few areas where I had done bush regeneration about 15 years ago that now look amazing.

The cache was around more rocks. After 8.5kms it didn’t make a lot of difference. Took about 5 minutes to find but there was some tiredness involved .

Favourite awarded beautiful area. Old school cache as well. There the best.

Great location. Another old cache and a step closer to logging Old School. Picked up a pathtag, no swap but it's half a year since the last visit. Used the alternative course from an early log which are spot on. Great cache. Favorite point. SL. Tftc.

Went looking for this one while on a long walk with my dog. Still scratching my head about it. lovely spot though, and will probably take the gang there to have another go.

For reasons unknown to me in hindsight I approached this cache from a very difficult angle involving scrabbling uphill and bush bashing through thick scrub. In addition to this the walk had taken a long time and I was running out of sunlight. I had a lot of trouble finding the cache and almost gave up but found it eventually. I had to move very quickly on the way out to avoid the dark however. Thanks. It was definitely a memorable one.

My 4th cache for the day. May plan is to do some old school and close of some months of find caches. Let's see how I go!!!

It was a brilliant, but step hike down via the GNW at Hornsby. What a nice surprise seeing the pond and some tourists walking the trail. Found the container about 6m from gz and it was in good condition. Completed the signing duties and now looking forward to the hike up back to the car. TFTC

Getting to this cache was pretty tough. We started from the end of Pogson Trig firetrail and bush bashed towards the cache in a straight line from there. On our way back out we found that there was a much easier path with virtually no bush bashing required. Thanks for the cache

Found with AngelG27 on a geocaching mission to Sydney and a bit further north. I was driver and geo-assistant extraordinaire!

Really enjoyed the walk to GZ and earned my stripes on the way back. Quick find luckily. Glad to find another old geocache! TFTC:-)

It is my birthday weekend, so my birthday treat is to head up north to Sydney and beyond to grab some lovely old caches - to enjoy a little of the history of caching and help with my JASMER calendar. Bobl27 has agreed to be driver and geo-assistant!

Fourth special cache of the day and another oldie but goodie. They sure knew how to hide caches in the olden days. A very pleasant walk to GZ, and especially loved the fabulous sandstone steps down the hill. Cache was a reasonably quick find. The walk back up the hill was more like a shuffle, but with patience and a few stops, achievable. Thanks for keeping another "classic" geocache going! Dropped PT for the next intrepid cacher

I made sure I was prepared for the walk into this cache today with plenty of water and sun protection. There were also plenty of muggles about along the track to fishponds and its here I left the crowd and bush bashed the 60m to GZ. At GZ, I wasn't getting any show of a cache anywhere so it was time to read some previous log and someone had posted some other co ordinates which I used and I soon had the cache it hand. Did the legals and replaced as found. Thanks 2 dogs for keeping these old school caches alive. TFTCM

With a bit of time on our hands we are exploring some of the oldest caches around the area. The name of this one had me worried and as we walked out along Pogson Trig Fire Trail I was checking out the surrounding bushland wondering what the last bush bash section would be like.

Near the end of the fire trail we met a NPWS ranger and chatted for a while about the work they were doing on the walking track and then we headed down and with about 60m to go according to the GPS headed off.

Not that hard really. The rock shelves were easy going. Our only worry when we got close to GZ was were we on the right level. No need to worry. Co-ordinates are pretty good for an old cache. Didn't take too long to locate. GPS at GZ 9m.

Surprised this has survived numerous bushfires. Probably a few cache containers have been used over the years.

Thanks heaps 2 Dogs for keeping this one alive.

Found with TOMBI! and grandson. Started at Quarry Road and walked down the track, cominng the way we missed the actual rock hopping creek and probably had a longer walk. Got to GZ and found nothing, after reading some logs found some update coordinates for a quick find. Dropped of 2 TB (ant and fuzzy duck) and picked up the little bear. TFTC

Found with BillHill531 and my son on a caching day trip to Sydney. Originally we were going to go after rare placed months, but it changed to unique D/T combinations. Of the six caches found today three were new combinations for me, leaving just three left to complete my grid. A bit of something for everyone today.
This was on the list due to the rare placed month, but because I am so slow with my logs, I did not realise I got it recently anyway. Parked on Quarry road and made the big walk in. Not as bad as my GPSr said it was going to be. At GZ we had no idea, until we checked some old/recent logs and updated out coordinates. Then it was found not too much later.
Thanks for the walk and old cache!

18-Oct-16
Actually, I intended to find a lot of caches today. But I got up late, spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery and great spots to have a rest, therefore this was the fourth and last for today - but after all this one was the main target. Coming from the Ginger Meggs-side, it was a great walk to GZ. Saw heaps of lizards and water dragons at the first crossing of the stream, just lying there basking in the sun. At GZ, it took a while until I found the container.
Thanks heaps The 2 Dogs for keeping up this old geocache and bringing me to this lovely location!

16-Oct-16
Although this took some time to get to GZ, the journey down and across was truly a lovely experience and well worth it. Accompanied by geo friend Bluewattle, we were amazed at some of the unusual trees we passed, seeing the huge fish in the creek, managing to 'rock hop' without falling in and seeing all the great work the National Parks are doing with putting in new and safer steps. The little bush bashing to get to the prize didn't deter us after the big walk we had experienced, where a nice quick find was had. Thanks The 2 Dogs, a favorite point from me and TFTC Smile

Almost to the end of completing our secret agenda. Very slow going with the amount of steps and rocks to climb down. (As always the mind is ticking over, we have to come back this way and it will be all uphill). The view into the fish ponds was well worth the hike down. Phone coverage was a little bit dodgy and relied on sticking to the paths, signage and compass. Thanks to the National Parks for maintaining and constructing the paths and steps. Favourite point awarded for the age of the cache and the nature walk. Found with Snickersallan Wink

Out with JJCC on a mission to find another old school cache. This cache was our target for the day.

Parking at th eend of Quarry Road we found Dural Berowra Regional Park and the Pogson trig on the way out...following the firetrail to within 100 metres of GZ. Following the new steps down a little we then worked our way out towards GZ. Due to the tree cover the GPSr was floating around a bit...but always led us back to a particular spot. On turning around from what we thought was a good hiding spot, we spotted the cache (wasn't expecting it to be there). With the cache in hand we both signed the log, before replacing everything as found. Both the log and cache container are in good condition.

The following TBs came through for the mileage: Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust) and Vanlith The Youngling.

My legs were a bit sore still from the City2Surf last Sunday, but I was getting a bit stir-crazy and thought I'd test my legs on bit of a hike. This cache looked pretty simple on the map, lots of trails, maybe a little bush-bash near the end etc, I thought it'd make for a nice stroll. Parked at Dilkera Close and found the other cache there, then looked down into the valley and thought "uh oh". Well, going down is easy enough. But then I realised that the nice paths I could see at home on the web-page just weren't appearing on my phone. Nothing I could do would get them to appear on the app or the website on my iPhone. So instead of following some nice trails I made a mash of it.

Thinking I'd overshot the cache I entered the bush up the ridge and ended up at the fire trail. Found a walking trail and made my way to a large rocky platform with great views. Certainly did some rock hopping and I scrabbled down over boulders and ended up swinging down through a gap in the rocks to the path next to the creek SW of GZ. Back and forth along the creekside but couldn't find a dry place to cross, found a point where the track was closed due to the rifle range. Boo! That confused me too as I didn't think I was anywhere near the range. Back along the path then shoes off to ford the creek then up up up to GZ. Thankfully I found the cache quickly, and it's in great condition. Signed log - woo hoo! Swapped a TB and I think I left a mini-pen (EDIT: and a playing card). Back across the creek and with almost no power left on my iPhone I realised I really didn't have a good idea of where I was. I started off south down the GNW but then the path turned into the wrong direction across the creek doh! Walking back north and around I soon realised how difficult I'd made my ingoing journey. Very typical for me - bush bash in then walk on a path.

Back at my car and I felt quite happy to have found this legendary old school cache Smile And I'd had quite a bit of fun on the way, certainly got my share of rock hopping done. Not sure it did my sore legs any good though haha. Great cache! TFTC!

I came out looking for this cache a fortnight ago with members of my muggle family but my nephew normally sits playing computer games all day so his fitness was lacking and he ended up getting sick so we had to stop about 200 metres before reaching geo zone, That day we approached from ginger meggs park today we set of from Quarry road minus my nephew and a few other muggle family members, the walk down was lovely and pleasant , it is nice they are fixing up the paths we arrived at geo zone and my sister walked of towards the rocks I followed tronador's co ords and was pleasantly surprised to find the cache straight away, My sister could not believe I found it so quick. We then walked down to the fish ponds for some photos and struggled back up the hill. Thanks for maintaining this great cache The 2 Dogs. A fav point awarded for the adventure and the spot it fills in my missing month. tnln sl

Find #: 1,356
Companions: None
Muggles: A few park workers
Weather: Grey winter's day
Cache condition: Good

It was a bank holiday, so I got the day off (there are advantages of working for such institutions!). I decided to find some special caches, and this was one of them: it was one of my closest unfounds when I used to live in Westleigh, but I was never able to get here.

I parked at the end of Quarry Road and headed down the fire trail. After heading down the second track for a fair distance I passed a parked truck, which was unusual as all I had had for company to that point had been many attractive and noisy birds. Soon afterwards I bumped into 2 park workers who were building new steps along the path; the powers that be have decided that the Rifle Range poses too great a risk, so are rerouting the Great North Walk around the range. I had a brief chat with them, with one of the two friendlier than the other.

I continued on down the path, and soon had to bush-bash to get to GZ. I plugged in the alternative co-ords, but it still too a while to find the container, perhaps because I was looking for something matching either the cache's name or hint. After reading some of the old logs I signed the book myself, then replaced everything before heading back up the hill.

I debated searching for the cache that is now behind the blocked section of the path, as I couldn't hear any shots ringing across the valley, but decided it wasn't worth risking it.

Thanks for the cache.

Our last find for the day and another golden oldie with a pleasant walk to GZ. I've done a bit on the GNV but nothing around here so it was to venture down here.
Another not taking the correct creek crossing we soon found ourselves at GZ where after using a 2nd set of coords we had this one in hand.
Thanks 2 Dogs

This was another on our old cache run today (myself and The Rats). A nice walk down and along the creek. We then crossed and made our way through the bush upwards. The original co-ords are a fair bit out so lucky previous logs had an update. Then we spotted some trackworks nearby and managed to find a much better track out going past the swimming hole. TFTC!

After what started out as a very sad reason to visit Sydney (my Brother's Funeral), we hired a car the following day and collected some special caches for her [^] (I enjoyed a the caching as well just not so keen on the Stats Razz)
Finally arrived at to the sounds of the rifle range across the valley!
Nice easy find [;P] Cache is dry and in good condition [^]
Nice to see a location involved in a the early days of caching [^]

T-Tech and I had to come to Sydney for a family matter on Friday, and we were able to add 2 extra days to fit in some serious caching Big Grin We only had 6 caches on our hit list, but they were all pretty special: 2 of them were D4.5/T1 (which is a rare combination) and the other 4 are rather old [^] All up we drove about 500kms over the weekend, made all 6 finds, and added 2 others for good measure.

We took the walk to this one from the end of Quarry Road, and it was a cool 23ºC as we left the car. Perfect for a wander in the bush. No problems following the fire trail most of the way to GZ, then we headed off on a slight geotrail. I had tronador's co-ordinates (S 33° 41.545 E 151° 04.916) marked on my GPS as well, and we headed straight to them and T-Tech spotted the hide straight away [^] Very pleased to get my name into this one, as it fills a whole on my Jasmer Grid. TFTC, The 2 Dogs, and for keeping it alive.

Today I did the walk from Hornsby station to Quarry Road Dural and back, which took me close by this cache. Leaving the track just before it drops down to the Fishponds, I followed a geotrail of sorts through the fairly open bush and, using the coordinates posted by Tronador, made a quick find. It was great to see one of the very first caches still going strong and in great condition.

Many thanks for the hide in a lovely area and for keeping it going so long.

First tried the coords mentioned, but the water was too high. Then started from coords on a trackhead closest to the cache but after 1.5 hr gave up. I could not find the path for teh last 150 meters to the cache.

Team Omam from the Netherlands has only one aunt left. And as she will have her 100th birthday early February, we decided to join the birthday party. But …., she lives in Sydney Australia! An excellent opportunity for us to explore this continent once again and find Geocaches along the way. We will do a 3.5 weeks trip! At places where we will stay for a few days (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Darwin), we will organize Meet and Greet events. We will try to find mainly caches with high favorite points, caches from 2000 and 2001, earth caches, webcam caches, virtuals and letter box hybrids.

Parked at the end of Manor Rd and followed the steps down a long way. Nice stroll past the fish ponds and then a short bush bash to GZ. I didn't realise how close I was when I attempted The Deadly Tree last week. Took a little while to locate cache as the iPhone had me about 10m away but alternate coords provided in recent logs got me to the right area. I started barking up the wrong tree but then spotted the well camo'd cache. Thanks for bringing me here. A very enjoyable morning walk (although the return trip was slightly more strenuous). TFTC

After finding the Dural Berowra Regional Park cache it was on down the hill to find this one. We relied on our GPS to get us as close as possible to GZ while we were still on the track, before it turned us to go through the bush. The last bit wasn't difficult and the cache was soon spotted with typical camouflage for a hide in the bush. After signing the log and noting the trackable that was in residence, it was then back up the hill again to the geo vehicle. Somehow it seemed to take longer on the uphill return trip than the walk down. We were very pleased to find this cache as it is one of the oldest ones that are still active. We are giving it a favourite point as it is one off our check list towards getting 10 old caches for the Old School Challenge cache. TFTC.

Walked down from Quarry Road from the Dural side and collected "rest a little while longer", and used the fire trails down to within 50m to GZ at this point I cut across to the rock ledge. Must have walked straight past it, or over it. No luck after 15mins of slipping and sliding.
Used "Tronador's" log as she had posted coords in her log, ahh, all made sense.
Loved the walk down here with the bush in flower, starting to look amazing, thanks Houndog and Snifter

Found this little guy on a hike from Cowan to Hornsby. When I noticed that this cache qualified for the Old School Challenge there was no way I was going to walk straight past it! We spent a while searching since the GPS was off by a couple of meters, but the hide was quite obvious once we saw it. The clue made absolutely no sense to us until we found the cache! TFTC

Followed my GPSr right to where it said GZ was located. With no luck.
My GPSr told me that GZ was on the other side of the valley, after scaling 4 rock walls I found what appeared to be the top. Had a quick look around what appeared to be GZ without any luck.
Ris768 was unable to cross the creek due to geodogs unwilling to cross, so I went ahead keen to locate.

We will rerurn with more intel another day.

#197 one of the reasons that I came up this way but it didn't coincide with my 200th find. Oh well have to find something equally interesting on my return. I made this cache a lot harder to find than I should have. Not knowing the area and hearing the gun shots all the time was a bit disconcerting until I found out exactly how far away it really was. Seeing some of the logs saying that there used to be signed about warning of stray bullets (but none anymore also didn't help) Hearing the thud of the bullet hitting the target was a relief each time. Walked down to the river trying to find where I needed to cross the river to get to GZ proved harder than I thought. After all the rain recently the river was a bit deeper & harder to cross. Decided to go back & find the closest point to GZ and try from there. That worked a treat and found the cache quite easily from there. Signed log and returned to the car. Instead of a 3 km hike it ended up being almost 7 km. It was worth it to get another original cache

Needing two more finds to qualify for the "Old School Challenge", we took the opportunity of a dry day this Easter to try our luck with this one and "#1 Frog Hollow" nearby. We made our way down the ladder and descended to the valley, stopping at the fish pond (and the stepping stones) before continuing towards GZ. We got to within 95m and decided to cross the creek and bush bash up the hill to get to GZ. Don't know if this was the best way or the only way but we got there, to find the container in good order and well hidden. Coords were good and let us straight to it. The walk back up the hill to the car was altogether a different story!

Lovely morning for a family walk to the fish ponds and beyond. Parked at the end of Quarry road and headed down via the heritage steps. Had not previously been here so very impressed with the stone work and bronze plaques on the way down. Kids did well going down. Near the fish ponds there were 4-5 large black fish(?) swimming. I climbed a horizontal branch to get a better look and our youngest wanted to join me so reached down to pull her up but her hand slipped out of my grasp and she slid down the bank and almost went in. A few tears but it was a soft landing so she quickly recovered but not enough to continue to GZ which was left to geodad. Skipped and hopped up the rocks to GZ then followed a line of pink flagging tape before coming across a few narrow trails leading to an impressive series of cliffs. Though there would be more rock hopping to do but GPS said no. A fairly quick find once it settled. Container and contents in good nick. Signed log and replaced as found. Then skipped back down. Kids managed the stairs back to the car with gusto. Thanks for placing!

I was passing through Sydney and tried to grab some old school caches. This one fills a gap in my stats so it was on the list of I had time and it turns out that I did.

Modern maps make it very easy. I parked at the nearest entrance to the great north walk and followed the track to GZ, crossing the stepping stones over the creek.

I spotted the cache from about 10 metres away as it was poking out from it's barky hole. I made sure I found an extra piece to cover it before I left.

The return walk got the blood pumping and by the time I got back to the ladder I was sweating profusely. The humidity!

Thanks for the cache.

The point of logs is about the journey to get to the cache. Well this was a milestone cache for me, number 5000 across the different cache listing sites. So really the journey began a bit over 11 years ago when someone introduced me to the hobby in the desert out in the middle of nowhere, west of Port Augusta in South Australia. Since then caching has taken me to many interesting spots, out in the bush where I have been introduced to lookouts and historical spots that most people drive past without even realising they are there.

For the milestone I wanted a nice old cache that was a bit of a challenge to get to, and I love a nice bushwalking cache much more than a city micro. So after finding a few easy ones this morning to get on to 4999, I returned home to pick up Anna and we set off for the walk in from Quarry Road. I didn't realise quite how far we would descend from here but it was still easy going, to the sound of rifle fiew from the nearby gun range. It seems you can't continue on the Quarry Track much further than the junction at the trig because of stray rifle fire, but the Pogson Trail that leads to this is out of danger. Once we got within about 40 metres it was time to go bush to head to GZ, and using tronador's coordinates the cache was easily found. GPS units are a bit more accurate these days than they were 13 years ago when this was placed, but I am pretty sure I would have found it in any case.

Visited in a TB (but I won't leave it here as it may get stuck for a while), thanks Hounddog and Snifter, nice to get an old school cache and one I will remember for my milestone (the last milestone of 4000 found in NZ involved me banging my head on the bottom of a bridge so was memorable for a different reason)!

Followed the track from the trig marker. Nice piece of bushland with plenty of wildflowers and native birds.
The track was quite rough in parts and I would think it could be difficult in wet weather. When the GPS indicated 60m I headed off the track, hoping I'd be able to find the way back, and found an area that matched the cache name. Had a bit of a look around and had just about decided that I wasn't going to find it when I came from a different direction and ah ha, spotted a typical bush hide!
SL but could not see the listed geocoin which is interesting being as no one has apparently been here since it was dropped off.
Found my way back to the track, thank goodness and then back up to the main track - hot work on a record hot day.
TFTC nice to find such an old cache.

I found this one this morning whilst out seeking to finish finding the last two I need for the 'Old School Challenge'. Also focused on the calendar gap and DT rating cache hunt which brought me back to Dural and Berowa.

As CJ is away, I did this one solo. Today the weather was perfect for quick walk and cache. The coords were excellent. As I arrived at the GZ, I saw the tell tale signs of a bush hidden cache. It was a straight forward find. The container is in good nick and the log is dry after all the recent rain. I signed the log, dropped of a GC and replaced the cache exactly as I found it.

It was a great day for finding another cache down the in the bush:) Thanks The 2 Dogs for another of your caches. SL TFTC

To start the new year it was time to knock off a few Old School caches plus a few more along the way. It was hot and geoson and I worked hard for our finds, but it was certainly a great time. This was cache number 1 of 5 for the afternoon.

The sensible option seemed to be to park at the end of Quarry Rd, and we headed into the bush from there. We did end up passing the end of Lockinvar Rd so that would have been a better option. The bush is wonderful around here. And tough, lots of stairs in both directions. It was quite warm and the cicadas were deafening, and urinating on us. Towards the end it was difficult to follow the right trail but we did a lot of rock hopping and arrived at GZ.

I thought, perhaps like others, that it would be hidden amongst the rocks, but it was not to be. I plugged in tronador's co-ords as I thought they would be reliable and found the cache soon after. (All those years ago, the decimals only went to 2 places so can be a bit less accurate).

It was great to have geoson there to share the moment, another Old School Cache completed.

TFTC The 2 Dogs - another trek worthy of a favourite.

On the way out we took a different route and had to pass through a couple of fences. We discovered the quarry by accident - it had pristine water at the bottom. Another nice surprise.

#299 (1 of 5 today)

I really only had two caches I was after today. This and then Old School Challenge - New South Wales as my 300th cache.
What that meant, though was that I had to leave Dural Berowra Regional Park, which was pretty much right where I parked the car in Quarry Road. Maybe I should have planned better & found one less yesterday... It would have all worked so much better if I'd found this the first time.

Well, this was so much easier than my previous attempt where I couldn't even get to GZ. An easy pleasant walk down the fire trail, and then a short track/bushbash to GZ. What I found surprising was I had phone network coverage the whole way, while my previous attempt from the South East was without any coverage once I'd descended to the river.

At GZ two things happened. First, my phone went off - incoming email. It was then I noticed an earlier email from another cacher asking about a 2 Dogs cache I had found. Second, I spotted the hide from a distance.
Opened the cache to see that four cachers had found it since my DNF. One earlier today.

Completed the signing duties & returned to the car ready for #300!
Grabbed the Wooded Idol TB that had been placed in here earlier today.

Geocache: # 1,067.
Found on: Monday, 30th December 2013 at 3:44 PM.
Conditions: sunny.
Current streak: # 152 days.
Today's finds: 2 of 13.
Caching buddies: Goughy2012 & morry9.

I headed out with Goughy2012 and morry9 in the afternoon to tackle a couple more Old School caches, this time up the northern end of Sydney, and to hopefully pick up a few others around the area. We parked the car at the end of Quarry Road and began our walk along the designated fire trail. After turning off at The Pogson Trig station marker, we descended into the valley and made our way to the published co-ordinates. Once at Ground Zero, we took the advice from tronador regarding the co-ordinates and it was only a matter of a few minutes before we made the find. With the Cache In Hand, we performed the signing duties and returned the cache and its cammo back to the hiding spot. It was a slower walk back up the hill in the hot summer sun but it was well worth the effort. Signed Log, Took Nothing Left Nothing. Thanks For The Cache Hounddog and Snifter, appreciate that you have been able to keep this one active for so long!

First stop of the day with Morry9 and "JordsAU. We entered the NP via Quarry Rd and made our way quite fast along the main path before we reached our first turn off the main path. REached another point where we had to pick which way we went then eventually found where to leave the track. It was just all a matter of time before we walked to GZ and found the cache. SL and replaced.
