First time up here, loved the climb and beautiful views TFTC! (the cache could use another logbook as this one is getting a bit worse for wear)

03-Jan-22
Had to time this find between the steady stream of people up here today. No pencil in the cache and sadly we forgot our one so a picture instead!

Ended up in New Plymouth today on a surprise impromptu boxing day road trip, and I couldn't have picked a better day for it. As I was only here for a few hours I targeted only a few specific caches, and this was one of them.

Wow, that was a walk. I knew this was gonna be a steep trail, but not like that. Worth it for the view though, and the cache. No problem finding it. The log paper is starting to get a little frail but still works, TFTC.

27-Nov-21
Beautiful day for a little stroll up to the top of the rock! TFTC Smile

29-Apr-21
Since it hasn't rained for 24 hours, we decided to climb Paritutu rock. What nice climb. The view is great too. Little cacher found the cache, grabbed it, and then returned it. Two men were chatting less than 2 meters from the cache. But a child never looks suspicious when touching everything around.

26-Apr-21
Found after a fun scramble up the rock (after completing the Pouakai Crossing the previous day). Not a great fan of heights but a great fan of pushing myself out of my comfort zone! Awesome views up here and a bonus cache for good measure. TFTC!

11-Apr-21
Nice climb!

05-Apr-21
Came for a walk up here today for a family fun activity. The breeze was warmer than we expected at the top and the cloud meant we didn't get a wonderful view but it was still pretty good.

Soso checked the cache - all good here today.

I'm on a short geocaching roadtrip to Taranaki, logging my finds as I go (where possible). Will expand when I get home. TFTC+FP

Finally, a clear day after several days of heavy rain. Still a bit of water on the steps but not enough to spoil the climb to the top. Great views along the coast, although the Mount was still hiding behind low clouds. Signed the log before heading back down again, rather more carefully on than the ascent. TFTC

Quite an effort; not your typical park-n-grab. Done late afternoon, with a colourful sky. Could not see Taranaki this afternoon

On a weekend trip to New Plymouth to have a look around and see the lights in Pukekura Park so it was a good opportunity to grab a few caches too. We had never climbed Paritutu Rock and the cache at the top was a good incentive to give it a go today. The Jr. Cachers didn't have too many problems getting up but the 'mature' members of the party found it a little tougher going. Had to wait for a couple of groups to descend the steepest part of the climb, which was a good chance to rest, and we made it to the top to a spectacular view. Worked out where the cache was and waited for a couple of muggles to move on before making the find. TFTC and a FP for the awesome spot.

13-Jan-20
Spending the day in New Plymouth. Enjoyed the Festival of Lights in the evening. Challenging climb but worth the effort. Enjoyed watching a seal playing in the waves. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTC

04-Jan-20
Wow, what a climb but what a view !!! Forgot a pen to write in the logbook ️ but snapped a photo of the cache, along with many of the views. Favourite Point from us
After this climbing down, treated ourselves to great seafood dinner at "Bach on Breakwater" and then on to the brilliant Festival of Lights

TFTC & Cheers!

Man i hate heights and this cache has confirmed it. Glad to overcome fears this year and knock this one off. Took the kids with me and super proud of their effort. Thanks for placement and personal challenge.

.Cool we get to climb this rock. Have been seeing this from everywhere. An interesting climb with the odd chain and rope rail for assistance. Amazing views from the top. watched a seal playing in the bay. Quick snag and tag here. Cheers

Day 7 - Friday 20 December. New Plymouth area today.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Earlier in the day I saw this rock, and wondered if what I saw was a track up. So I was hoping there would be a cache up top... Love this cache! Bit of a stiff climb up, but easy enough. I do think the terrain rating is generous, though. Definitely a 3, definitely not a 4. 3.5? Great view from the top,
Met someone up top who was in town visiting his family - none of them had climbed this rock, and they are locals!
Gets a favourite.

30-Sep-19
What a great place with spectacular views! Only downside was that the mountain was completely covered in clouds today. But the view of the coastline was brilliant. It took me a while to locate the cache, but in the end it was a matter of looking from the right angle. TFTC + fav.point!

It's a beautiful sunny day. Let's continue our streak and get a cache with a view. So up Paritutu we go. Soso saw seals so that made her super excited. Go_Zz found the cache thanks to the very specific hint.

Today we planned to go up Mt. Taranaki, but as the weather turned out to be very bad up there we only made it to the I-site and then returned to New Plymouth and fill in the day there.

Finally we made it to a peak today. Quit a nice view up here....

09-Feb-19
Visiting my eldest son in New Zealand, so sent the younger son up to find this one as I didn't fancy trying to haul up the chain to the top.

Nice to have a chache up here. Smile

06-Feb-19
Wow! That was a cool track. The rock out here is just amazing and crazy that it can be climbed.

24-Jan-19
TeamBOP have come together again for a trip to the Naki. Team BOP consists of myself (obviously), McJandals, Philip.Perry and DavidsonClan.
I have visited this city only a handful of times, mostly for yachting regattas, but never managed to get time to climb this beast. That was many years ago, even a decade or more before geocaching even started so am glad now to have two reasons to climb the rock.
Today was finally time to get up the rock and what a fabulous and rewarding climb it was.
I had to stop halfway up to help a young lady carrying her dog on her shoulder, get herself down the near vertical part of the rock climb. A dog, really? How dumb is that!
The view was spectacular, even despite the fact that Mt Taranaki was hidden, but we still had a great view of the coast.
Thanks for keeping this cache going. The climb is dangerous, but worth the fav point I award.
Thanks to all the CO's for attracting us to the Taranaki.
TFTC

20-Jan-19
It was time to assemble Team BOP as I hadn't seen these crazy people since the Mega. The plan was Taranaki via the Forgotten World Highway and we were all pretty excited about it. It was a big couple of days so forgive the cut'n'paste logs as I'm logging retrospectively and a few of the hides are starting to blur together. Not this one though - we knew exactly what was going to be required here. TNXPro, McJandals, Davidson Clan & myself signed our logs individually or as TEAM BOP depending on time, log space or mood. Cheers & TFTC Smile

Great climb and views very windy up here today.

Found using Cachly app and logged using the text template, so please excuse generic logging in advance. On a spur of the moment roadie with Phillip.Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan from the Bay of Plenty, a plan was hatched and here we are. Great to have these places to visit and many thanks to all you COs for the placements. Cheers Wow Wow Wow. What more can you say and definitely worthy of the FPS for the adventure.

16-Oct-18
Day Five of a 12 day, 3000 km road trip around the North Island with the primary objectives being the Taupo Ultra Marathon on the 13th and my first ever caching Mega event in Wellington on the weekend of 20th & 21st. With thousands of possibilities for caches to look for on the way, I had to be very selective and decided to concentrate on special types, solved puzzles, ones that would fill missing spots in my statistics grids and those with good numbers of favourite points, plus maybe a few extras that were close by those.

Today was spent in and around New Plymouth and although the weather was a bit cloudy and windy, there was no sign of rain to interfere with caching activities.

This one was definitely on the list to do as, being an oldie, it would fill a spot in my Jasmer grid. Was a little concerned about the wind, but discovered there are good climbing aids for the upper half of the climb, so it wasn't too bad in the end. Took 9 minutes from the carpark to the top and once at the top, the view was awesome and with the good clue, the cache was soon found. Signed log and replaced safe and secure as found. Thx for bringing me to this neat place. TFTC

We spent a few days driving from Welly to AKL collecting caches and solved puzzles & our very last overnight stop was in New Plymouth. As we drove through town the next morning Mrs. B. spotted a big rock up ahead and commented "I bet there's a cache up there." A quick look revealed that she was correct and we pulled into the parking lot to suss it out. This wasn't on our handy dandy road trip list of must-do caches along the way but after hemming and hawing (umming and ahhing for those who haven't heard the first version like Mr. B. ) about it for a few minutes (did we have the time (yes), was it a d/t combo we needed, (nope) would our knees hold out, (surprisingly yes) etc. etc.) we decided that we definitely needed another adventure and heck, we were already there so why not. Mrs. B. was slightly unsure when the stairs ended and the chain along the rocks started but we both managed to reach the top and claim the cache. What a view indeed! The wind was blowing a gale, which made going down a little hairy at times. We were as happy to get down as we were to get up LOL. Thanks for the awesome impromptu adventure, a definite FP from us! Smile

This was our first destination today. After climbing Paritutu Rock we had of course views sweet as. We waited for some muggles to be gone and started our search. Took a wee while to locate the little one because the coords are far out. The hint helped and we signed the logbook. Awesome cache and awesome view.
Thanks for maintaining this old cache. Thanks for showing. Tftc
