Great to find ones a little bigger out here, our boy certainly loved giving Elliott pats and cuddles. Tftc
Awesome find, great condition and Elliot is still in there guarding the cache. Gave Elliot a pat and left a little something to help block out light on the sunny days.
Came out to find the other caches in this area and to drop a trackable off. Plus I didnt sign the log last time so have rectified that.
On a caching holiday from Mackay. In the search of old caches and ones to fill DT grid spaces. Found TFTC SL Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Great to see an old cache at a cool location. Hello Elliot.
Road tripping once again from Mackay heading to the Gold Coast this time via some old caches along the way. Very cool location, great old logs, all in good condition. TFTC.
What a pleasure it was to find the cache. I went to sign and found I had a hole in my pocket and had lost my pen. So annoying but I took some photos so will be an easy find to come back. And being such anold cache I will be back to write my name in. Really enjoyed walking in the tunnels what amazing history that I had no prior knowledge of. TFTC
We had come to Crows Nest to participate in the rural safari event this weekend. As it happened, the course took us straight past this spot so we pulled in to have a bite to eat, a look at the tunnel and, of course, to find this cache. We decided not to go too close to the tunnel as the bat colony was smelling the best but we did take the time for some photos. On our return, we detoured the short distance to GZ where the cache was found safely tucked away. Always good to find one of the oldies. Thanks Albyalbatross&Nicole
Cache active again. Had to enable on notice of could be Archived without notice. Back in its original position. Please cover well as works are continuing in the area.
I was informed the cache could be archived without warning. So it is back in place with extra cover. It would be sad to loose a cache maintained for 20yrs.
Due to weed control in the gz I have removed the cache for the time being. I will re deploy in a few weeks.
Nice quick find , however that’s because there is a very well worn track slashed and tape hanging. Is someone considering opening up the trail?. Either way, the cache is rather exposed so might be worthwhile CO coming for a look?
A brilliant cache, found on way home from Gympie.
Cache in great condition.

Spending a day caching around Cooyar.
Elliott is looking good! How times have changed over the years, we remember having to plan a day of caching in advance, print out the cache info, load the coordinates into a hand held gps, write our notes in the logbook journal then go home and log our finds online, it was a game for the dedicated and not something you could do on a whim! Good to see the original logs still in the box for the new generation of cachers to enjoy
Thanks to CO’s for taking time to set out and maintain hides and for showing us your very special part of the world
Log signed in first open spot with stamp

What an awesome oldie. Pity we couldn’t walk through the tunnel, I was getting excited at the prospect. Thanks for placing a cache here as we love hides like this, taking us to interesting places we would have otherwise never found if it wasn’t for Geocaching. A fav point from me. Found whilst on a very non direct route to QOGM - Charleville 2022. On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird (aka Mrs Geo, Salty Chook, the Old Boiler, Old Chook, Dirty Bird, Angry Bird & occasionally even Love Bird). It’s a great day for caching. Lots of history here... Both caching and rail! Thanks for laminating the old logs they were great fun reading! TFTC
It was only yesterday when I was working out where I was going to go today when I realise this was one of the oldies still in play. So I made the effort to find this well maintained oldie hiding in the bush. Thanks for maintaining this one.
On a very hot day on our holiday week at the Bunya Mountains, we made a little road trip out to Crows Nest and found this tunnel on the way. After visiting the bats and the other end of the tunnel, we braved the stairs and soon found the cache. Quite overgrown with some prickly weeds and nearly got muggled making the find but the stairs scared them away.
It wasn't absolutely clear who Elliot was but there was a dragon with a broken wing so we had to assume that was him. He certainly is doing a good job as guardian to keep this cache going so long. We did some swapping - took Mr Tickle, Mr Grumpy and a rail peg, left a Little Treehouse book, My Little Pony and lion.

The ladies said as I've been pretty good for the trip so far, that I could do something I wanted to do. After nearly falling out of a tree and compiling a few war wounds, this was my second choice but I had to enter the dragon's lair by myself.
Encountered a few rather large mozzies on the round trip and managed to dispatch all but two, which cost me a quart of the red stuff. Great to get another Qld oldie. thanks to all for keeping this one active!!

With a 4 day weekend on the horizon, our dreams of one day collecting SSE, the Gravel Safari series and other caches in this beautiful area finally came to reality. My plans for day 1 were altered at the last minute, but I was very glad to be able to join this wonderful group of geo friends for a fantastic caching adventure from day 2.
This morning we hit the road and headed out to collect some great caches, saw some wonderful buildings, tunnels, trees, animals and had many many laughs.
This was an amazing place to visit, we took some great pics in the tunnels and was very thankful we caught glimpses of the bats.
The cache was found quickly, the log signed Team Grav which consisted of Simber15, chamad, NayFee, Triple Turmoil, Domksy and E_Smiley.
Thanks Albyalbatross&wendy for placing this cache here and for keeping it going.

A plan was formed recently to camp at Oakey over the October long weekend (due to Ekka being postponed) and tackle the art and a number of fun puzzles in the vicinity. The call went out to a few others we enjoy travelling with and the solving began! Lots of back and forth between members and we finally had a full set a few days out from the trip.
The roads were wet and muddy but that isn't going to stop a group of dedicated geocachers on a mission! The rain held off which we were grateful for however chunks of mud were often shaken off shoes before returning to cars and moving on to the next one.
As is always the case when caching with others there were many laughs and a great time had by all. Always a great sense of achievement when you've been working through a project over a number of weeks.
Thankyou for placing and arranging this series for our enjoyment. The fields and flowers were in bloom. Birds a plenty enjoying the roadside water sources. The scenery was refreshing. Always enjoy a taste of the countryside.
A special treat to find this cute old cache!

Day two of our Oakey trip and a later start than usual.
We set off just after 9am and hit the trail, ughh.. Road? I don't know what to call it, but we travelled on it. Our main target for the day was the Gravel series than we slowly made our way north than south while collecting a bunch of caches along the way.
I have never ventured out this way before so it was a real eye opener, the towns, the farms, the flowers, the animals, you name it we saw it, well, maybe not everything because I was disappointed I didn't see an elephant, but you get the picture.
We certainly picked the right time of year as the Jacarandas were in full bloom and you wouldn't go through a town without seeing a bunch of them, absolutely stunning, it truely is an amazing tree and you can literally spot them from a mile away.
The team had an absolute blast and we thoroughly enjoyed travelling the open road breathing in the fresh country air, what more could you ask for? Well, a coffee shop perhaps since I went the WHOLE. ENTIRE. DAY without coffee and that is deadly, If i miss my daily caffeine goodness I become a terrible person and do bad things, other than that it was a very memorable day.
It's great to see an oldie in such great condition. I like how you've included the original logs and they've been laminated, nice touch. We walked through both sides of the tunnel because of the locked gate halfway down due to the bats. Great experience in a great location. The cache was in hand quickly when we arrived at GZ.
No Dragons were harmed.

Day two in a fun long weekend, chasing the SSE and The Gravel's Travels series and EVERYTHING else along the way! Days like this wouldn't exist without the COs who place these for our enjoyment, so thank you for bringing us out to this beautiful area. Logs signed as Team Grav to save space.
When I tell a muggle that we went camping for the weekend at Oakey, they look at my strangely. Not exactly a usual "holiday" destination. But they are missing out. The views, the scenery. Beautiful area.
Such a privilege to get this oldie. We did approach from the wrong end at first, only to be faced with a locked gate. Then we went down the previously stated many stairs. Peppa - MissTurmoil 10 says 96 because you missed the ones made with the sleepers. They still count.

A definite favourite on our day out in this area.
So lovely that this would bring us to such an old hide here in Queensland.
Some beautiful history; we were fortunate to be visiting in the spring time when the wildflowers were truly outstanding.
Great history and beauty here. Thanks.
A favourite added.

Today, the plan was to go west for the day and join the Oakey evening event. I ended up catching up with domsky and E_Smiley in Crows Nest where we completed *Whisperings of Crows Nest* Adventure Lab, and we then proceeded to Cooyar finding a variety of geocaches around that town. After having lunch at the Cooyar Hotel, we took a trip out to Muntapa Tunnels, of which we all seemed to enjoy the history of the old railway tunnel. We returned back to Crows Nest where we had a chance to find a few more geocaches, and then parted ways, when I was able to able to squeeze in the *Ye Olde Crows* Adventure Lab. A journey to Oakey was made via a few of the *Gravel's Travel Safari* series, and after attending the event and having a few conversations, it was time to return back to Brisbane.
This geocache had been on my target/bucket list, given its age; a nice oldie 01/2003 hidden cache, and one of Queensland's 100 oldest yet active.
The one thing that I really enjoy about the oldie geocaches, is that they indeed bring you to some awesome places, and this was no different! What a cool area, and the history of the various information signage made it an interesting visit. I needed to catch up with the rest of my group members, and thus saw this infamous tunnel from the other side (after unsuccessfully trying to run through). I soon arrived at GZ just as everyone else was there, and the cache was a reasonably quick find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Albyalbatross&wendy for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. Such an awesome tunnel, and I wonder when they will develop this area / rail trail suitable for cyclists?

This was easier than I thought. Great container made it a favourite. Bats did not smell at this end.
On a whim we drove the motorhome to the Muntapa Railway tunnel. There is a very nice park to stop and walk the trails at either end. Geohubbys knee is a bit sore so I went down & up the 84 steps to find this cache. All good & dry. Of course we had already walked the other end before thinking to look if there was a cache so we missed the other one. TFTC
Peppa knows how I love a bit of 'old stuff' and a history lesson to boot. So with light fast fading and a huge day of caching behind us we headed into this area. While waiting for me to go to the loo Peppa did a bit of reading of the information signs - "What, we are standing on top of the Great Dividing Range!!! No WAY!" Does that mean the tunnel is somewhere beneath us? "Can't be - I confidently say to Peppa - it's doesn't seem 'hilly' enough around here" How wrong I was to be proven.
After a wander down the stairs Peppa is off the walkway and searching the undergrowth while I decide to head up the track to the tunnel - wow those past logs aren't wrong about the smell - it is overpowering - so much so that I only venture a little way into the tunnel (definitely nothing to do with the fact that I can no longer see Peppa AND the light is all but gone). Luckily Peppa saves me from having to brave the tunnel all by myself by calling me over to check out some of the old log entries placed in the cache container. Wow - now that is some living history - fantastic job Albyalbatross&wendy for placing, maintaining and enhancing this cache - I think the oldest one I have found to date. Favorite point from me.
Now to tackle the stairs and have all of my MANY questions about why the hell this tunnel is here in the middle of nowhere answered by the lovely interpretive signs the other side of the toilet block.

Easily the cache of the day for me...
After leaving home at 7am in the pouring rain, PirateLinda and I have been to Oakey, Acland, Oakey, Jondaryn, Bowenville, Saint Ruth, Springvale, Dalby, Bell, Kaimkillenbun and now Muntapa...
This cache made the target list for the day due to its age... Even though the sun is now dipping below the mountains, and it was a little cold, this is an interesting place to visit... For a moment I thought I wasn't going to actually see the tunnel.... but then it appeared before us... Spotting the cache was just as easy, piratelinda managed it from the platform...
I unpacked the well stocked container, made sure to show piratelinda the unique treatment of the original log, made our mark, dropped in an ooshie and a pirate coin and returned everything as found...
I got close enough to the tunnel to take a couple of pics and to really appreciate the bats presence...
We had questions, and thankfully the information board answered them and then some...

Spending a couple of days in Nanango to collect some more smilies and this is our last day in the area. A great bit of history to be learnt here. Parked up and followed the trail nearly to GZ, great to find a really old cache still up and running. TFTC Albyalbatross&Nicole
My husband and I were on the way home to Brisbane from Dalby and we made a detour to visit Muntapa tunnel and find some smileys along the way. What a great spot for a cache. This is a place we would never have gone to if it wasn't for geocaching. A nice old well stocked cache too. Thankyou for taking me here and for placing this cache here for us to enjoy. Giving it a FP FOR all the fun
On the road from Kilcoy to Toowoomba via a few counties. This is a great cache - tks for the fabulous location and condition of the cache. Tftc
Heading out on a LONG drive today.
From north Brisbane, to Esk, to Lake Cressbrook, Crows Nest, Haden, Cooyah, Yarramann, Nanango, Murgon and Boat Mountain, And return!!! No rest for the wicked. 500 kms+ in a day, with good weather, good company and good caches. Bliss!
I was looking for a couple of caches - larges ones, popular ones, old ones, high ones.
This was one of those caches!
The CO was kind enough to have already provided me photos of the original logbook of this old cache. But it was fabulous today to see it in person in all its glory. Nice to see laminated copies of the original logbook, loved flicking through them all and seeing the first few logs back from 2003. Amazing to think that was 18 years ago now,
Thanks for contributing to an awesome day out caching. Home now, exhausted but happy.

The fifth cache for us today whilst we are on day two of a three day getaway before the years obligations kick in. Having ridden part of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, I’m always keen to see another railway tunnel. We pulled up at the park and once through the gate we were off towards the GZ and the tunnel entrance. Met a couple of other visitors on the way down, but no other souls around today. Tunnel is fantastic and you can easily see the bats flying around from the gate. Now to find the cache, I made my way around the new stairs and along a geopath and spotted a suspicious looking hides hole. Was in luck and the large cache was in hand. Plenty inside, including the black dragon, plenty of swaps and dry log books. Added my name to the ever growing list and placed everything back as found. Thanks very much for the cache Albyalbatross&wendy. Cheers
Out today on a mission to grab a few targeted caches while on a trip to a community event, seems not only Santa has a list, love the list. Not sure if this was on the list or not but we stopped anyways just as the rain stopped for us in time to grab this one.
So excited to see another old cache still in existence and a very well maintained and look after cache. I liked how the old log books were still present and seeing so many names is a tribute to this cache. there was so much swaps in the container but nothing for me today. Really loved this cache and it gets a favourite point from me. I finally got around to placing my name in the cache and replaced as found before we had to head off.
Thank you and Well done to the CO’s of this one and as a side note that tunnel is awesome too.

The heat from yesterday had not changed much here.
Had hoped to walk the tunnel but no.
Great to come to these historic locations.
Thankyou for hiding this geocache Albyalbatross&wendy

Have wanted to check out this tunnel since I found out about it a few years ago, today was finally the day! Pretty much had there place to ourselves and was able to walk in a explore the tunnel in silence. We could see the bats flying around in the middle but none came to the exits. Found the very well maintained cache but as I was pulling it out a ‘big’ scary spider ran at me and I dropped the cache and almost jumped into the barbed wire fence nearby!! J Davs had to come and save the day and get the log out so we could sign it. It was great seeing the original logs in there and great to add ours to another old cache.
Worthy of a favourite point from us. Thanks for a great cache!

Found with goldielover here today. Camping near by this long weekend. Some great caching time.

Easy fav point, both the cache and location were perfect.
All good here with your cache. Thanks heaps for placing for our enjoyment.

Not really a DNF as I didn't get a chance to give it a good look.
There must have been a dozen or so muggles at any given time and they seemed to manage to stay evenly spread out from the stairs to the tunnel & ALL were being very observant (NOSY!) in regard to other's movements.
At first I thought if I stayed here long enough that one or more of the crowd would turn out to be cachers!
Unfortunately NOT the case.
As I said, unable to give it a GOOD look but from casual observaion as I wandered back & forth I could not spot anything despite having a heads up by a fellow cacher/finder.
After 15 minutes of trying to outwait the muggle horde I decided to head back to where Mrs VC was waiting patiently for my return as, without having signal here I could not communicate my predicament.
Maybe next trip? [?]

This is an old cache and later in the day I was told the metal stairs are a recent addition to the steep decline into the rail trail. Now I have pics from both ends including of the old bakehouse. Must have been a rough journey back in the day

I was here today. A new cache is coming soon. I am so dissapointed that the dragons have been stolen. I am also having the original log book laminated to go back in the cache.
Walked the wrong way when we got the the park but our dogs enjoyed the adventure of the cutting and tunnel. Faintly fragrant from the tunnel residents and very fragrant at the other end. Pleased we didn’t have to go in to that end. Lovely big container in good condition although the cache note has not faired well from a past damp episode and is blurred and unreadable but the cache is entirely dry. Now to make the climb back up those steps. Thanks for bringing us here. A fav point for us.

Out today with my Geobuddy to get the my final 4 old caches To complete the Oldest and Finest challenge. We found the ones I needed to find. My plan was to get her final old cache to.
Halfway up to Nanango she told me the cache we had aimed to do for her. She had already found. Boohoo I was hoping for us to finish together.
We had a good day caching.
Ended up finding 15 caches for today. This one was a extra for the day.
Sorry for the generic post

Ended up finding 15 caches for today. This one was a extra for the day.
Sorry for the generic post
Cache a day to keep the doctor away, or is it to keep me sane. No it’s to keep my streak alive. TFTC Albyalbatross&wendy *381* streak. *2252* Finds
So many bats!
Love this find. If the cache was my here we would not of ever known about the tunnel.
Sadly we didn’t see the dragon

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.
Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.
Thanks Albyalbatross&Nicole (F=107 H=29) for the cache.

This cache had been on our radar for years but we wanted to be able to stop and enjoy the surroundings rather than a park and grab. Today was the day and with a picnic lunch packed we slowly cached our way towards this spot and enjoyed some backroads around Coalbank. With a magpie and its baby nearby, we let the onions and hotdogs sizzle and exhaled and relaxed enjoying the serenity. After lunch we ventured towards the cache, buoyed by the hope of being able to walk through the tunnel. Alas, the overpowering stench of guano (bat poo) kept us at bay, so we signed and left the area ASAP! Love that the cache has survived this long
Found with Touchstone7 on a trip out west of Brisvegas. We were up visiting my father and decided that a little side trip around an area I haven't really been to could be fun.
And of course, there were caches.
I really like old railway tunnels, and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I'd a pity that we weren't able to go in further. Fav point for bringing us here.
Thanks for the cache and sorry for the late log. Sometimes life gets a little hectic

Enjoying the qld winter taking a short break west of our dad's with Genghicat.
Seeing 20 likes we decided to pop out to find out what the commotion was about. We were a little disappointed in the cache itself, finding no dragon, but the history and age of the cache was impressive. Took photos for the tb I am carrying that wants to see railways.
It's such a dry spot. The soil seems nothing but chalky dust and rock. I can't imagine living out here in the heat and flies for 13 months.

Pleased to spot this oldie on my map that it was close by to where we were travelling today. Well one can always make a detour for one of Queensland’s oldest and finest. Lovely little area here with a quick and easy find. Read the note by the neighbors who found it recently.
Surprised to find an oldest and finest near where we were so just had to stop and collect ! Awesome place! Tftc
Out gathering special cache prior to the Rural Safari tomorrow. This one came up on my radar as one of the old time MUST do caches. Love railway history, just imagine if we could have a rail trail where this line ran.
1:02:00 PM. Having a stop over on our way to the Rural Safari. A day around Cooyar to clean up some caches. We heard about this cache at Kilkivan and decided to drive out as we were close. It is great to see these old caches surviving. Log signed after a muggle family had signed it. Checked out the tunnel but didn't walk through. The history here is amazing. Thanks Albyalbatross&Nicole for the cache.
A quick find with lisylou and jemillalucy today out for the weekend at jondardyn woolshed
Surprised by the tourist infrastructure here given, as occasional visitors we only knew about it from the cache not tourist information, so may not have come otherwise. Fortunately, the only other visitors here today chose the other end of the tunnel. An informative spot and the cache was in hand after a short walk. Thanks for an interesting stop.
It’s been more than ten years since I was here and was surprised to see the new stairs and the tunnel gated. The bats are still happy as Larry too.
Found the cache easily but laughed at the ‘regular’ size

Nearly stood on a snake as we walked toward the stairs. Thankfully it was more scared by us and slithered away. Googled it to discover that it was only a tree snake.

TFTC smile 3775 Found on the 5-10-18 out and about with miss millie geo dog on our way home from Barcaldine Events had a great time Thank you for placing this caches Found in good condition and dry Had the place to myself Thank you Albyalbatross&wendy another oldie for me
It is the day after the Rural Safari and stortigirls and I are out collecting caches in the area. My caching buddy had previously found this cache but was happy for me to detour to find it, too. She knows that I love old caches. <3 I parked the geomobile and we took a stroll to GZ. I was distracted along the way by reading all the information signs about the history of this place. So interesting. When we reached the bottom of the stairs, we went to have a look at the tunnel first. As you approach, you can feel the cooler air from the tunnel! Then it was time to search for the cache. It was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC
What an interesting history in building this tunnel. Fascinating read! This is what we love about caching... takes us places we might not have otherwise heard of.
We had a wander to one tunnel entrance, then back over the top to the other entrance as the gates were locked. We could see hundreds of little bats flying around further into the tunnel.
At GZ the big cache was an easy find. All nice and dry here.
Thanks heaps for placing this cache Albyalbatross&Nicole. Have a Fav Point from us.

Found 6/6/18 quick stop before sunset at this wonderful piece of history would have never known it was there.thanks for the cache!
This was our target cache for the day, as offroadcaveman and i sped south chasing more adventures. And what an interesting spot it is! We loved having a read and a poke around. Gates were locked, and the whiff of guano is um.. quite. Er.. ripe? At the moment.. as we ventured in a ways.
Cache found secure now with our names added to the log. Thanks albyalbatross&wendy/nicole for the placement of another cache highlighting a cracker of a spot.. and youngoldfella for the diligent maintencene provided.
Found about four in the pm yesterday afternoon.

We had very distant memories of coming here some years ago, so it was nice to see the place again. Bats are the only mammal that can fly. To get light enough to sustain flight they cut back on pelvis width, whereas birds shed much of their intestines. The result for bats, is they can’t stand upright for long periods of time, with the exception of one nz bat who crawls/walks on the ground. Bats catch and emit sound through their nose leaf, they also catch sound through those disc like ears. Distinct bats use distinct frequencies to match where in the canopy they are hunting. Bats are awesome as they keep insect populations under control and pollinate flowers. Thanks heaps for the cache.
This was Dora the Explorer!'s and my last cache of the day prior to heading home.
This is a very interesting tunnel with interesting history on its construction.
There were plenty of bats in the tunnels and their wings made the air sound like wind through it.
The cache was found and the log signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.
All is good with this cache.

Quick easy find tb drop. Thanx for showing us this place. Love the tunnels. Walked right through. Heaps of bats right in the middle. Loved it.
Out with Stortigirls, her muggle fiance and his son, this is such a cool place we loved the tunnel and saw some bats in the middle took a few pics and made our way to find the cache. Sadly no longer a cache guardian just some fossil footprints, but still what a great sized cache. We were amazed by the amount of steps here too. TFTC
Out on a roadtrip with my muggle fiance and son and in the company of RhoBoCacher, we decided to target a few fine old caches while we were in the area. We were keen to explore the area when we arrived at this cache and my muggle stepson thought both the bats and the tunnel were incredibly cool. We found the container in good order, although sadly the little guardian was missing, leaving just some fossil footprints in the glue on the rock nearby. Thanks for bringing us here Albyalbatross&wendy, take another FP from us.
After attending a rural safari not that far away, 1Minniemoo and I were planning to do some caches around the area before heading home.
We were heading first to a different cache and I noticed this one on the map and said it was a shame it was so far away, well 1MM said it's actually not that much further then the one we are headed to and it's an old cache so why not!
I love train tunnels and I think visiting this one means I've now visited all the disused rail/tram tunnels in SEQLD.
We did a bit of exploring first and then realised where we should have been.
We saw some of the tiny bats up close but no dragons today.
