Where Huell goes, I follow! But this place I went many times before Huell suggested it in his Episode #206 LA Adventures. Just watch your step though, or you make become a permanent fixture here.
Episode #5002 -- "Squeegee" http://www.calgold.com/calgold/Default.asp?Series=5000&Show=585
14:58
Here's Ettore Corp, the makers of the original squeegee, accept no inferior imitations!
As one of the pics shows, it'll be moving in a couple of months, out of Oakland completely, thus depriving the city of yet another piece of its history...
However, thanks for giving me the op to go out and hunt for an episode about my local towns that hadn't already been snagged!
Oh yeah: this is find #250 for me! W00t!

Road Trip With Huell Howser #113: SOLVANG
What a great time we had spending the day in the old Danish town of Solvang! Huell Howser visited many parts of this fascinating little town in this episode, including the world-famous red shoe and the ElverhØj Museum (see pics below). But the destination that we just had to log for this reverse cache was the Solvang Restaurant that is home to Arne's famous aebleskiver ! These deliscious balls of fried dough are served with jam and powdered sugar and are worth every single gram of cholesterol! Man, are they incredible!
We're glad that we finally get to log this one before it goes away-- we just love Huell Howser! TFTC!

"Downtown Surprises" (http://www.calgold.com/visiting/Default.asp?Series=200&Show=179) was the title of episode #224 of "Visiting... With Huell Howser". In this show, Huell visits two little-known downtown Los Angeles attractions. The first subject was the Grier Musser Museum at 403 South Bonnie Brae St. in Los Angeles. We visited it early in the evening (after closing time) today to get the pictures below. The museum is housed in a restored Victorian mansion. Because it was dark, the pictures aren't the greatest.
Our thanks to Paul and Suzanne for keeping this one alive long enough for us to claim it. We thought we were going to get to an unclaimed location in Woody, California during two business trips, but both fell through, and we’re just getting in under the wire.

Since we know this cache will be disabled within a day or two, we are posting this note with the other place visited in the "Downtown Surprises" show discussed in our other log below. Normally we would leave it for other cachers to claim, but there's no time left, so we wanted to get both parts of that episode posted.
The second subject of this episode was the San Antonio Winery, which is the last winery operating in the City of Los Angeles. We got there just at the 7:00p.m. winter closing time, but got some decent exterior shots. The winery was established in 1917, and is located at 737 Lamar Street. They have tours, a tasting room, and a restaurant.

Episode #129 California's Golden Parks
John Muir Home
Awwww! I'm glad to be able to finally log this one before time runs out.
In this episode, Huell tours the the Victorian residence in Martinez, California, where the naturalist John Muir lived from 1890 to his death in 1914, and meets the special folks who are responsible for preserving this important site. While living there, Muir laid the foundations for the creation of the National Park Service in 1916.
Checked with Locationless Proximity Analyzer.

El Camino Bell in San Jose, Ca These bells are part of the California's Gold show #124. They have a great history behind them. The Kings Highway - or El Camino Real has long been a part of California's rich history. From its humble beginnings as a dusty trail, it quickly became California’s first “super highway†connecting all 21 Missions.

California's Gold Episode #306 "... celebrate the memory of Abraham Lincoln with a march to the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, the only shrine west of the Mississippi dedicated to Honest Abe." I've lived in Redlands for 8 years, but this was my first time actually stopping here. P.S. my LUCKY 13th find!
The city of Huntington Beach known as "Surf City, U.S.A" was featured in the Orange County show #109. Huel learns about conservation efforts at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands and why Huntington Beach is called "Surf City, U.S.A." The coordinates take you to the International Surf City Museum in Downtown Huntington Beach. Additonal coordinates for Bolsa Chica are N 33° 42.667 W 118° 03.672 and pictures are included for that too. A two for one! TFTL/R Cache!

The Bufano Peace Statute (Episode 126) is one of California's smallest state parks. It is on the Sonoma coast, and is found by walking through the Timber Cove Inn. Bufano began work on project, which he named "The Expanding Universe," just after the Cuban missile crisis. It is based upon earlier works and is meant to be a projectile that creates peace instead of destruction.

Huell visited the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA during his California's Golden Coast series show #103 (2003 season).
"Where can a student explore the ice fields of Europa or conduct an underwater excavation on the sunken Jamaican city of Port Royal? At the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, of course. Huell visits the Ocean Institute, a non-profit organization founded in 1977 and dedicated to ocean preservation through education. For 25 years, the institute has been used by educators as a hands-on laboratory for schoolchildren to learn about marine science and maritime history. In late 2002, the opening of the institute's new Ocean Education Center expanded its goal of education with an impressive 34,000 square-foot campus that includes a 15,000 gallon seawater system, an impressive collection of oceanographic testing equipment and over 20 student learning stations. The new facility is a model for future interactive environmental education programs throughout the world, while continuing to promote ocean awareness and understanding."
This is close to home for us and a place we have enjoyed visiting over the years. Thanks for this great cache!

Wind farms #909 What are those big things, in Palm Springs, CA. Huell looked pretty nervous up there.
Episode #116, Huell checks out the Accordion Festival in Cotati, CA. (Road Trip, 2002 season.)
The 15th annual Accordion Festival was held just this past August 2005! Founded in 1991 by Clifton Buck-Kauffman and Jim Boggio, local accordionist extraordinaire, the festival draws lovers of the squeezebox from all over the world to La Plaza Park in Cotati's Hub. Jim Boggio passed away in 1996, and a statue of him stands at the southeast corner of La Plaza Park.
This reverse cache is so close to home for us, in August we can hear the Accordion Festival music (for free) from one of the local playgrounds!
Thanks for this great cache!

Alosta Avenue in Glendora today -- it's open 24 hours # 815 donut man
We've been driving past this place for years. didn't know until today that there was a visitors center. A film about the history of Borax and some really big trucks. The truck In the picture I posted will hold 200 tons of material. Episode name: Big things in the desert, #909, 1998
Episode#506~Flowers. I love Huell Howser's show, and the whole family loves to impersonate the way he talks and gushes over the smallest things. He gets so excited, and loves what he does, I dream of taking over for him when he retires as I love California so much too. Anyway, we could not go in Daffodil Hill today as it is only open certain times of the year, and it was nearing dark. We have been there before when all the flowers were blooming (I'll include a pic of that too!) and it is awesome. Thanks Huell, and thank you for the fun find. Cache On in California's Gold!
