It was a great day for kayaking across the channel today so I thought I'd pay this one a visit.
The good news is that the cache is still there - just buried a little more than intended but is now visible so shouldn't be too hard to find.
The bad news is that the (new?) land owners at the top are not very happy about people crossing the farm to access the track from above. The fishermen's track is no longer in use. Unfortunately this means the cache can now only be accessed from the sea - and that climb is very hard work!
Cheers, M@

We got 0m on our GPS and went round and round GZ looking in, under… but just couldn’t find the cache thankfully the views made up for the fact it was a DNF to start the day with.
So exciting!..
This has been on my wish list for some years....but the terrain rating scared me....
I came out the other week to do a cache series at Awhitu ,,, and came almost to the cache here but chickened out due to concerns about the drop off...luckily for me a kind PF offered to meet up with me today to ensure I was able to find this one safely....( relatively )
All went fairly well and I am very relieved to have finally signed off on this cache!

I called here before and found the cache but along the way I dropped my pen so never actually signed the log. When supernannny wanted to visit I was happy to escort her. Now I can say my name IS on the log.
We followed the cut gorse path down to the stile and then I was very grateful for long pants as we walked along the slight trail through the gorse. The cache was located in the first place checked and then we stopped to admire the view from here. Thanks for the adventure
Have always wanted to visit South Head, but such a long drive to get here. The day was calm and sunny - perfect for a road trip. After a picnic lunch, we made our way through the gate and down the goat track towards gz trying to avoid the gorse as much as possible. The cache was soon in hand, and we stopped to admire the views across the Manukau before returning up to the lighthouse.
Been here before but the last time the weather was pretty crap. So decided to leave this one and comeback another day. Today is that day. Weather didn't start off the best but then it cleared. Wasn't expecting it too. So the mission to grab this one was still on. Arrive at lighthouse and man it was windy out here today. Not good for people with long hair. After a trip up to lighthouse we figure out where to go. On arrival at gorse was that moment we go where??? Then spotted a bit of trail and off we go. Gorse part is still fine to walk through. Arrive at gz and quickly found cache. This spot was out of the strong winds so stayed for little bit and enjoyed the views. We had an awesome time getting to this one. Tftc
I was driving my car and had the BOYS with me, yea man... the BOYS! They happen to be FMZ who I picked up first then CyclicalCaching and then tramyard. Today our plan is to find this cache that we had DNF'ed awhile back here at the lighthouse and to get the final info (for me at least) for Bennett's virtual cache.
We weren't sure about the sign saying bull in the paddock, but chanced it anyway. We are an adventurous group! First thing me and Jethro noticed was the gorse or rather the lack of it! It was an easy walk down the hill to the sign and stile. there is one precarious spot once you head over the fence, where if you slip, it'll be straight into more gorse. Got past that and was an easy slip-slide down to GZ. Before I even got to GZ, jethro had the cache in hand.
After that we just sat and talked and admired the fabulous views, contemplated making an earth cache. It was nice to be away from civilisation for awhile. Paratutae looks ominous as usual, been up it twice now and keen to go again if anyone needs guidance.
Thanks Matt for checking on this cache, that was very prompt of you and the reason we came back.

Team work with CyclicalCaching , funkymunkyzone and Gorbygorbachov during caching Awhitu Saturday trip.
It was our main target for today.
Great adventure and not that difficult as I was thinking is gonna be.
We had also nice break at GZ after finding this hide. Thanks for placing it and keeping alive for such a long time.

Having caught up with gorby, tramyard and cyclical caching at the recent CITO event, a plan was discussed to head out this way today to find this cache, and some stuff for a virtual/puzzle apparently, but for me this was the goal of the day. Last attempted by me back in 2013, but it was to late in the day that time, and I'm glad I didn't attempt it then, might have ended badly - although on that note, read on.
We first went up to the light house for a look around although we had all already found the cache up there. Then it was back down to the gate into the paddock that leads to this cache. The gate had an ominous no entry sign on it, warning of a bull in the paddock. There was a brief discussion about this and we decided to ignore it, after all, you only have to run faster than the slowest in the group (and surely that's not me).
With no sign of the bull we made our way over the paddock and down to the stile that led into the gorse. A bit precarious in places, but we got through that unscathed and a short scramble down later we were at GZ and CC uncovered the cache in record time. We spent a few moments surveying this lovely spot, before heading back up. Again made it through the gorse and back over the stile into the paddock. Still no sign of the bull.
Our last group photo was taken at a gate halfway back to the car park (see tramyards final photo). A little further, and the bull revealed itself. Turns out not only could I run faster than the slowest, but I could run faster than all 3 of them. Lucky too, as that was one angry bull. Refer to my photos for the ending of the story.

Excellent to redeem my DNF from last time.
The big adventure was to come out here today and get this one.
Fortunately the Gorst has been massively cut back, so it was almost easy to get down compared to last time.
Happy to turn this smile upside down.
Thanks for the fun adventure, it’s a fantastic spot!

Find number 6840. This one has been on my list for some time. I had been to the lighthouse before but never ventured down to GZ. But today I decided to give it a go. While fellow cachers (ABCDF4 and eyespyben who had previously found it) waited at the car I started my journey. When I got to the first gorse section I thought my jandals and shorts were not appropriate caching attire for this cache. The track? down was rather steeper than I had expected. Once again I thought my jandals were not the best choice. Once clear of the gorse I mad my way around below it to GZ. The cache was quickly located. It was at this stage I became aware that I had developed a hole in my shorts and the pen and my glasses had disappeared. The pens in the cache would not work so I resorted to taking a photo of the cache and log. Once placing it back in position I decided to follow my path back and about halfway back up the track? I found them (Right where I had slipped over) Not wanting to brave to gorse/blackberry again I decide to carry on back to the car and trust that my photos will be good. As I walked the last the last 100 m back to the car I was muggled by 15 pheasants. Thank you for the adventure and the scratches on my feet and legs. It was well worth it to get the smiley
I though I'd pay this cache a final visit before archiving - given a fail from four pairs of eyes. But there it was! It's just tucked right at the base, facing the sea. Coords are still good.
This cliff seems to get harder every time I climb it from the beach these days! I'm not sure if I'd prefer the gorse route now (maybe not .
Cheers, M@

Many of us attempted this today, I was coerced by rusty to come along, I hesitated since others had returned and said far too much gorse and it was not a nice place for a cache! So I went along with her (a previous finder) and alunb, Cyclicalcaching, PJRBO. Great views though!!
Got close but decided to not go further as the risk and the hurts would go against Geocaching's creed. Besides that many previous logs were DNF.
Very nice view tho.
Very nice view tho.
This cache is really ouchy.
We searched in every flax for the cache.
We didn’t turn it up.
Even ripped my trousers
CO may want to check on this cache.
Don’t underestimate this spot, it’s not super fun to go searching. You’ll cry, you’ll bleed, you’ll suffer.
And maybe you won’t find anything....

Got through the thistle but ventured part way up & decided it was a bit hard so maybe back another day with reinforcements.
After visiting the lighthouse and figuring we could not access the right track from that track we walked back down to the carpark and had an ice cream from the caravan set up and sat down to figure out where we needed to go. I had spied a gate to check out and made a b-line for it after we were finished while Mrs B and Tinytree had a walk up to the lookout in the other direction.
After a short walk across a couple of fields I spied what I was looking for and made my way through the first patch of gorse to get there. The track went right down from here and made my way partial down only to realise I was not in the right place so came back up to spy a very overgrown gorse covered track off to the side. I fortunately had some tools with me to help out and made my way though without too much damage to the area covered in overgrown grass.
Cache was found quickly but went to grab my pen and found it had dropped out on the descent (retrieved it from bush at start of track on return) so had to use provided pen in the cache which I thankfully got to work. Have retrieved a very wet TB whose tag has rusted and is now reattached. Thanks for the adventure.

Wow what an adventure! Now covered in heaps of tiny little cuts but so worth it! Once you have climbed the last fence, no need to go straight down, try going across... dropped the cutest TB hope someone finds him soon ️ favourited purely for the adventure! TFTC
Doing a write note as tried to find a track with a no dog gate. Fit not want to go past I think picture supplied as no sign on gate so stayed out...and also running out of time as used up too much searching for the other one. Nice views flew part this area yesterday.
While staying with some friends in Pukekohe I figured I'd go on a small excursion up to the Manukau Heads. This was my 9th stop and another favourite. I was under a bit of a time crunch though as the gate shut at 5pm which was in 15 minutes so I had my fingers crossed for a quick find but this hide had me puffing a fair bit. There's no longer a 'No Dogs' sign on the gate and once you get to the gorse well... it's getting pricklier Cheers tofska, a bit of a treat getting this 16 year old cache.
Oh my good, do not underestimate T4!!! See below...
I was glad to see that the weather finally was going to be good today after a week full of rain and cold. So I made the decision to drive to Manukau heads and visit a couple of Geocaches. I could find them all except for one and I really enjoyed the beautiful landscapes out in nature!
That one was the hardest one today! As previous logs saying I think the Cache location has changed since the Cache has been here. Anyway the first challenge was to get on the way to the Cache, after a couple of minutes of starring on my phone map and looking for a way I climbed above the closed gate - I couldn't find any other access. After that I came closer to GZ fast, until around 40 meters to the Cache. The pass ended there and was changing into a field of thorn bushes and steep hill sides. Definitely not easy to find a way through it. I tried it at three different points without success, finally I ignored my pain and walked through the thorns, luckily I didn't wear a good trousers. As the coordinates were really good I could find the old Geocache pretty quick and enjoyed the view and peace for some minutes. Definitely a real adventure and definitely T4, will not forget it so fast. Deserved a FP!

On a bit of a morning mission with C&D to the South Head of the Manukau Harbour. This is a trip I have been wanting to do for a while so glad to finally visit. This trip also ticked off my 9000th cache find milestone. It was a great trip with the usual laughs, though a slight tide issue made it truly memorable. Thanks to the CO's for all the hides.
The path has changed a lot I guess since this cache was placed. A bit of a slip up by the stile and lots of gorse made it a real challenge to get to the cache. Tried to skirt around as much as I could but in the end I ended up bashing through it, which made my legs look like a had a visit from a feral cat or three. A easy find once at GZ. Thanks for the challenging cache.

Plan for this weekend to visit Awhitu Peninsula Never been in this area before except Waiuku.
Met up with fellow cachers from Huntly on Friday night and travelled up on Saturday morning. Plan to start at bottom and work up.+ Cachers were signed with the team name HRT being first letter of our home towns (Huntly, Rotorua, Tauranga)
Generally caches were good but some a little damp, others requiring reading descriptions, hints and other cachers comments to make finds.
As the day went on we realised we would have to return the next day to complete, so this made it a Saturday & Sunday mission.
Weather was great and some amazing sites visited.
Wish to thank all CO's for caches placed. Great trip. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), ABCDF4, and eyespyben... For convenience, we group signed the logs H(untly) R(otorua) T(auranga) (or P(apamoa), depending on who signed and how heat-addled we were at the time...) We've been planning a raid on the Awhitu Peninsula for some time, with a view to clearing the area of caches... It's time to execute this mission.
The drop down below the lighthouse was quite daunting. Fortunately, the track turned away. and the high, narrow terrain became less frightening, though still very much a challenge. The coordinates were excellent, but getting there was a real battle. After completing the business, it was decided not to return the same way. The return trip was less harrowing, and we emerged onto the drive by the carpark. TFTC.

Oh my goodness. This cache is only for the crazy!!! Recommend Kevlar gloves, long pants and hiking boots! The gorse is mental!!! Made a friend at the beginning of the path though (photo attached!)
Out for a great days caching with Agazo on a very sunny day. This was a little difficult terrain wise but well with it. Cache was easy to find once there. I wished I had brought my cache pants as shorts did little to protect me from the gorse. Great view from GZ. Somehow I felt more part of the landscape here than the view at the top. Favourite from us. Thanks M@.
Was out and about today and thought of finding this cache . It was wild and windy today with a big storm on the horizon but that didn't stop us from heading for this cache. We parked near GZ and walked over. We past the first gate and headed for the second. This is where it got challenging with the storm on the storm approaching rapidly we had to move quickly .We then we over the fisherman's stile and walked thorough the all the gorse & blackberry bushes, but it was worth it in the end with the Spectacular views of the Manukau Harbour and the Tasman Sea [^] . After 5 minutes of searching we found the cache. Thanks for the cache tofska, worth a favorite point . TFTC!!!
This is one of the most challenging caches we have found so far. Beautiful weather conditions, but with three kids aged 4, 8 and 11 pretty tricky. We would never have dared to go down this steep hill and through the gorse, if we weren't caching.
But we were rewarded with beautiful views on a sunny downwind hill and it was an easy find in the end. One of our favourites. TFTC
We found the travelbug "Charlie the lighthouse keeper" and took it, to show him a very special lighthouse at the other end of the world as it is his goal to visit lighthouses everywhere around the world.

We had a great time finding this one with some local cachers. A common goal makes for instant friendship. Found after a bit of gorse bashing. Thanks for a fun experience.
Set off across the paddock to find the track. Squeezed through the gorse and arrived at the fence with the group of four cachers from Canada we'd just met up at the lighthouse. Realised once we got to the stile that it would definitely be a T4. Two of the men headed off down the hill and there was soon a whistle from down below which we took to be a success. Meanwhile the weather had turned sour again so we dashed back up the hill to the car. Once back the sun was out....looks like this would be the same the whole day, thanks for a challenging cache
This is one of the most challenging caches we have found, which also makes it one of the most rewarding. Once we found the correct path to follow from the car park, we headed cross country fairly easily until reaching the stile across the fence. On the other side the going was very steep & precarious, & covered with thick gorse. I'm guessing it's grown a lot since the cache was placed a few years ago. We made our way very carefully to GZ, & finally located the cache, in which we left a travel bug whose goal is to visit lighthouses. (We had intended to place it in the cache closer to the lighthouse, but it wouldn't fit, hence our search for this cache.) We recommend wearing long pants & good shoes to anyone brave enough to venture far enough to find this cache in the future, as our legs were quite scratched from all the gorse & blackberry bushes. The view from up there was amazing! This is what geocaching is all about for us - finding new places we wouldn't normally go. Deserves a favourite point. TFTC!
Holly guacamole Bateman this was hard.
But in the words of Rick Ashley, never going to give you up. TFTC

What a great spot at GZ. A bit slippery after in the grass going down the cliff after all the rain. Gave this a fav TFTC
After three tries of walking up and down the hill. We read a few logs and got there in the end the long way round.
Scotty headed off on a little adventure leaving Kiwiscot & Kiwi playing Pokemon Go at the lighthouse. Once back down at the car Scotty had not returned so Kiwi & Kiwiscot headed out over the horse paddock in the direction she had gone. By now the rain had returned in force and the wind was bitterly cold. Made it into the second paddock and to the edge of the hill before it drops down. Great views of the harbour entrance and the Manukau Bar but no sign of Scotty. Made our way back to the carpark and who should pop up behind but Scotty, wet, bedraggled but smiling with a large travel bug in hand. Yes! Completed a 4 star terrain cache all by myself
Today was a chance to go caching with Mrs Dragon. It doesn't happen that often as the places that I tend to go are often too wild and rugged for her. As it turned out many of these roads we travelled it was a case of us both enjoying the drive, the countryside and stormy windy weather, and I going to retreive the cache.
Nevermind was still a day full of memories that make up caching.
This was the ninth of the day after passing through Waiuku heading for Awhitu Peninsula and South Head. Walked up to the top to get a view of the mouth to the harbour, and could even see over to the small island that I climbed last year for a cache on the signal station island.
Once that was completed, I headed back down to the carpark and made my way (following troodles directions) to the cache. The trip was not nearly as bad as I was expecting with the gorse being low and the cache in the first spot I looked. What an amazing spot, thank you for brining me here.
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

A great drive out to the Manukau Heads. As one gets closer the road winds along ridge lines and there are spectacular views in all directions. We explored the lighthouse and environs, read information panels, took lots of photos and then turned our minds to heading towards this cache. Unfortunately I had not done my homework so finding the start of the track was a bit of a mission. - - - The photos would have been really helpful had I looked . Streetwalker's log came to the rescue so we knew we needed to concentrate our efforts at the carpark. The gate at the start of the track no longer sports the "no dogs" sign but we found enough of the sign on the ground to give us confidence to explore further. So. The gorse was not an issue, it was the wrong time of the year for thistles and the steepish terrain was tamed by copious grass.
At GZ, the cache was quickly spotted, the log signed, then back to the car to continue on our adventures.
Thanks for the awesome cache .

Our second day in NZ and first geocache found here. Visited the lighthouse first. The path from the parking are was pretty grown up and I found some pretty sharp bushes on the way. Cache is in good condition and obvious to find. Amazing view. Thanks!
Definitely a few gorse on the way down but well worth the view. Unfortunately it was getting late by the time we got there so we didn't go all the way down by fear of returning and finding the gate closed. TFTC
Mission of a cache, definitely recommend pants. The pen is running out of ink and forgot a replacement
#11623. We made hard work of finding the start of the track (in the end we realised the track starts from the car park). Once we were on the right track the instructions were easy to follow. The gorse wasn't too bad, and didn't take long to get through it. Great views from GZ. TFTC.
The weather forecast for the next few days is for rain, so we decided that today would be the best day to drive up the Awhitu Peninsula to the Manukau Heads. This is an area that neither of us had visited before and it was an interesting journey.
We first went up to the lighthouse and lookout, then had a hunt for the track to this cache. First we went up the wrong road, and were met by a dog who did not make us welcome so we hastily retreated. Closer to the carpark, we found the overgrown 4WD, then the gate with the remains of a sign which we presumed was the one referred to on the cache page. After that, it was easy enough to find our way down to the stile.
There was a bit of gorse to contend with, but we have encountered worse. It didn't take long to track down the cache. Great views from here. TFTC.

Perhaps should have done a little bit more research into this cache before attempting the walk in Jandals. The gorse is quite savage on the old ankles! But man, the payoff was totally worth. Scorcher of a day and the view from GZ was out of this world. Thanks from Stellaalouise and I!
Most adventurous of my cache finds yet and loved it! The 'No Dogs' sign is no longer there and having not done much research into this cache it took fwankiebutwhy? and I a wee while to find the right track. However, braved the gorse (in jandals and short shorts, ouch) and were rewarded with the most beautiful of views. TFTC!
We stayed at Big Bay for the weekend and today before we headed home, we stopped in at the lighthouse. Its been a few years since we were here last and long before we started geocaching. We took in the sights at the lighthouse before i headed to look for this one.
I left miss at the car and then i took off through the gate and over the overgrown grass towards GZ. Once over the stile, i spotted the somewhat overgrown gorse track and followed that. I was glad i did as its a long way down trying to avoid the gorse.
No problems reaching GZ, just a few scratches around my ankles as the gorse is pretty low. Spent a few minutes looking for the cache as i got my backs and fronts mixed up. As other geocachers had mentioned, the cache is missing the lid. Thankfully, i did a little research before the weekend and brought a new watertight container along with me. Same size, same place but now with a lid and dry contents. I have the original container minus the lid should you want it back M@, let me know if you do?
I signed the log, replaced the container and took in the lower level view. Looks easy getting down to rhe beach but im guessing it'll be a different story coming back up, with all your fishing gear too... Probably the only reason for heading down...
Anyhow, TFTC and navigating me down to this awesome place, a favourite for sure!

Unfortunately age & the weather have caused the lid of the cache to disintegrate. Would suggest a replacement pretty soon as it is no longer weather proof.
Such a beautiful view from here! Was fairly easy once we read the description instead of wandering aimlessly through the paddocks! Having said that, we did come away with a few scraps, and I may or may not have an unmendable rip in my shorts....! But thanks for the reason to come up to such an amazing spot.
On a daytrip around the Awhitu Peninsula with Okayness, Snarsha & Dor. After visiting the lighthouse and seeing the great views we headed off to GZ. Although the vehicle track appears to be non existent now we were able to follow a track through the long grass. Crossing the style had Snarsha on the edge of a cliff but by crossing a little bit higher a safe path was found through the gorse. Was going to let the youngsters scratch themselves up and make the find but this was find number 300 for me so headed down too. What a great cache to celebrate a milestone. #4 today. TFTC
Enjoyed the hunt and trek across field. Eventually found myself around and under the lighthouse. Was waist high in gorse standing on a narrow track on the cliff face. I was alone and I am not sure footed at the best of times. I imagined myself tumbling 300m down to the beach. App said I was only 38m away, but on a cliff face distance is deceptive. Decided to turn back. Won't be back again. It may be that l am more of an urban cacher that a rural one.

Get hide, good to get a different perspective and a walk around the light house. A new pen is needed and the no dogs sign has fallen off. Bit steep for the little eyretles so hubby did the find.
The views are well worth the drive. Many many people were thinking the same. The carpark was well full and there were people all over the lighthouse so we gave that a miss. Straight to the cache, the log is a little damp but otherwise in good order. A favourite.
Camping at Awhitu Brooks campground, and went for a drive with Mr stik-a-crane and Granny to find this one.
Found this very hard going so let Mr stik-a-crane go to GZ, while I waited 20m away... the right choice as he did not find it... saved my energy.
TFBMH.

This was the third for the day with EIR-OT, and while there were clear tracks to follow they were quite overgrown and young EIR-OT found it tough going in the midday heat.
Coming to within 20m of GZ EIR-OT had had enough, so went on myself.... got down to within 2 meters of GZ, not having much luck, but being more concerned that if EIR-OT was to follow me, we might be in a bit of strife I decided to DNF this one until next time.
Thanks for bringing me here...

Tftc! At first appears to be quite close to lighthouse. But don't try and get down from there. Had to go back to car park and search for no dogs sign. Very nice spot; can't see the people at the lighthouse at all from there
I should have downloaded the track, but I figured, "How hard could it be?"
I went up to the lighthouse and lookout first and noticed the cache was fairly close. I didn't see a way to the cache except for jumping the fence, so I walked back down to the gate. Nothing, so I hiked back up to the lighthouse again. Except for the private drive, still nothing. From the top I spotted a path that had possibilities, so I visually backtracked to the start and went down to it. There was the correct sign, so off I went.
The path was well overgrown, so it was slow going. When I got close there was plenty of gorse, so I felt it on my legs. Ouch! Finding the cache was the least of my worries: getting back up the steep cliff was much more difficult. TFTC.

Great location, fabulous day for it! Made it back safe but a little scratched! TFTC
Out on the Penisula with SethRaven and JoJa1213. Wow what a challenge for this unfit mother over 40. Couldn't believe where the GPS was taking us, didn't look like there was a way through so retraced our steps back up the hill but alas no we did have to go THERE. The navigation through the not so little thistle patch was rather dicey in places was very close to having a bottom full of prickles. Finally cache found and then the trek back to the car. Had we done enough for a mallow puff we sure had but this would have to wait until we got home. Not sure if I want to say TFTC as it certainly pushed these cachers boundaries, we are pleased to have another smiley on the map and yes this is what caching is about taking us on new adventures, so yes it is TFTC.
Caching up this Penisula with Fewncarrows & JoJa1213. Holy moly . . . . . . up and over the hil and down the other side . . . . . . . located the style and no very visible track through the gorse and brush . . . . . . . HOORAY found the cache and then back thru the gorse and brush . . . . . . back over the style . . . . . back up the hil and down the other side . . . . . . . to the car. Fencarrows decided this just might be "enough for a mallowpuff" for us today. Thanks for bringing us out here, this is my first visit here tot he this area and apart from the wind it certainly has amazing views. Glad to have marked this one off and to have been taken to yet another place in NZ that I haven't visited before and always keen for some little adventures with friends and kids. TFTC.
I came up here with Aunty Kym today to find some geocaches and this one was on our list. We stopped on the way up here to replace one for someone else and then came up here. We walked to find a cache, one, two, three . . . . . . down past a style and thorn bush trees. Around the side of the hill and through all the gorse, scratched up legs and back to the car being all uphill of course!!! this was a fun one for me today. Thank you for the cache
There has been some quite significant erosion at the base of the cliff, wiping out the bottom of the track - so there is no access up from the beach at the moment.
Very nice and windy place. The Cache was found quick and the view was amazing.

After a rather entertaining new years eve out in Waiuku We decided to go a for a walk to the head... Moto of the story, cross country Geocashing is not so good with the after effects of 2 bottles of rum.
The view from the G-zone made everything better though.

Amazing place to visit today. Was out here having a wee drive with my mum for her 85th birthday. So while she rested in the car I found the fisher man's stile and slid on down after an encounter with some ugly gorse to GZ. Fingers crossed I didn't end up in the water a hec of a way further down. Nice pleasant spot to sit and take photos. Cache all good and just waiting for some more crazy cachers like me . Now back up to the top and mum for an amazing look through the lighthouse . A fav spot of which I will return. Fav point gorse in all.

for a 1000 ft give or take .

Took the complicated route down but rewarded by outstanding views. Accompanied by my brother, Mapper Ted, who had already found it. If the ice cream is there, the soft serve ice cream is a must!
Was a great way to start the new year. The weather cleared up and it was great to be able to sit at the GZ and just take in the wonderful view. The walk down was quite a bit harder then I thought due to a recent knee injury.

What an awesome place. I'm going to have to come back here for a more thorough exploration of the area. I need to see if that pillbox in the photo gallery has made it to the bottom yet. Great views of the Waitaks from here. I can spot a handful of Waitak caches from here, including two of mine.
Gates closed at 5:00 and I only arrived around 3:00. I tend to lose track of time in places like this, so it would be easy for me to get locked in. I initially took the wrong approach form the north, then reconsidered my tactics when I reached to top of the bluffs. Spectacular views but a bit of a no-go to swing out that far to GZ from here! Back tracked to a southern approach. Grass in bloom started to make my eyes itch, so had to hurry. Found the cache slightly damp, but still OK. Signed the log, took a few pics, then found the easy way out.
Cheers for the great cache. Fave point for sure!

Wasn't sure about the terrain for the younger ones. In hindsight would have been ok
Found originally as part of rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz
See rebel98 log below. The tricky part was finding the correct path, then negotiating the hazards. Happy to say I made it and found the cache. Thanks again for the hide.

Visited here last week with funkymunkyzone but arrived after the gates had closed. I was back this way again today so took the opportunity to make the find here. Gorse really wasn't an issue as there was a nice track through it. Not the greatest weather today but still loved the breathtaking views panoramic both at the cache and on the drive out. It's a pity it's so far out of the way that more people don't make their way out here. Thanks!
Got here a bit too late to go in - about 6pm - so it will have to wait for another day. Perhaps one with some sun.
After hidden one new cache at our parkover at Hamiltons Gap. We went for a walk to the lighttower. We left our doggies in the campervan. Respecting the signs.
We had a great walk to the cache. As mentioned by other caches it is a bit of a struggle through the gorse, but not too bad if you just wear trousers
It is worthwile every step you take...that view..oh my gosh how beautiful. After signing the log and back at the campervan, we were approached by the people working there. Wpndering why we left the dogs in the camper??? uhhh....
Just take them for a walk. The sign is only there for the working farm. It is only for the protection of your dogs, but as they are healty and big it won't be a problem...I think it's getting more and more confused for us now. But happy to take the dogs out for a run around

On the peninsula with the tramping club, had to make quick detour. Very pleased I had my gaiters in my day pack, nasty bit of gorse there. Lovely spot though. Was on the other side a few weeks back. Tftc.
Wow this one took a bit of work. We had already walked up to the lighthouse and lookout and were ready for some lunch. We headed back down to the car and I knew it would be ages (if ever) before I would be back here so I left Mrs D at the car and headed up the most likely track. The gorse got quite thick, lucky I had long pants on but there was a bit of a track through it. Yes the track does get quite steep close to GZ. Easy find once there. Signed log, took another photo of the beautiful view and headed back to the car. Thanks for the awesome cache, gets a favourite point from me. D4D
One of the best locations, glorious viewpoint and I did have a good dry and sunny day. It would not be so good if wet or with strong winds. TNLNSL TFTC
Whoah what a fantastically remote place so close to Auckland. Enjoyed slow paced exploration today and definitely will be back again in no time. T4TC.
