Found it- seen better days!

29-Feb-24
#10302 (11 of 11 today)Its every catchers favourite day of the year - well every four years anyways - February 29. Decided Id try to up my most different cache types found in a day, and this time there is a WhereIGo close enough to attempt.Started early with an Earthcache before heading south to an Event. Then onwards. In the end I found 10 different cache types and eleven caches overall. I had hoped to finish with a second event, but my last traditional find took far too long.Overall, however, a top day.###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###Final cache of the day, even though I was hoping to end with an event. But despite the top walk to GZ and the great views from there, it was a very long search before I found the cache - somewhat the worse for wear.Annoying.y early in the search I was probably right next to it, I just didnt go around the next corner. And when I finally spotted it from a few metres away I realised Id lost my pen.Opened the cache and found a water damaged log. Managed to scrawl my name on it on charcoal - not the first time Ive had to do that. Then made my way back to the car.Only person I saw the whole time was a jogger as I was heading back.Looked at the time - no way I can get to the event - so I headed home.Probably for the best, the heat took a lot out of me here.SLTNLN TFTC

Finally, how did we miss this. Such a large container. A lovely day spent caching out at Beacon Hill area

02-Sep-23
Found using The Bebes coord hint of 6m SW. We poked around for 10 minutes, and saw where the original stash would have been hidden. How embarrassing would it be to DNF a large!

Try these coords if you don't want to waste time, as the original location was nowhere near the Trig marker and is not near the top! S33 43.853 E151 15.334.

Unfortunately, it has seen better days after 5 years since TB and PDG replaced the original container and the huge logbook is soaked, but I managed to scrawl our names. Maybe the next finder would like to bring a large box in to keep this one going, as it is a nice location with good views. The wildflowers are starting to bloom too, now that Spring has sprung. OCW Brewmaker, Martin Cousins and EverestHigh around Oxford Falls and Beacon Hill.
Our first cache of the day, once we climbed to the trig point. The hint was not really useful because what is "near the survey marker" ? Two meters, ten meters. It is very fuzzy.
After a while, Brewmaker found a huge container which is in need to a little care.

Thanks for the awesome cache. Probably the biggest container i ve ever found. Beautiful view from GZ. The container is a bit empty.

A DNF today. We had a really good look around a lot of levels. There is a lot of vegetation that had overgrown our fallen over just off the top rock slab so maybe it's been covered over? Serious love to know if it's still there so we can go back and take another look!

I love caches like this. Bushwalk with a bit of a bash/climb. The views up top were great. From the Hosp to the south west, the Bahai Temple to the north and some impressive homes up top of Cromer heights. The rock hopping was good fun, but I would hate to fall. Easily the biggest cache I have ever found, albeit virtually empty except for the log, but not easy to get to. Thought the terrain value could've been a bit higher. Makes we wonder what a 5 is going to be like ! TFTC! FP from me. Thanks for bringing me here.

Found on a nice summer's day With Shane058 and the Mighty Minions, a little on the warm side with temperatures in the high 20s.. A lot of Smoke in the air. so not the best view. We found a track from Maybrook Ave and made out way to the marker, fanning out in ever bigger circles and made the find. Log signed and caches replaced as found. Thanks For The Cache mustangmerkin

Out on a great day caching with Shaneo58 and BillHill531 , Bill had this one targeted for it's specific month placed date. Bit of a walk to the top for this one and then a pretty good search before the find was made. Not much of a view today because of all the smoke. Thanks for the cache tnln replaced as found sl

Found it with Mighty Minions and Bill Hill. That wasn't the hardest cache I've done but it is certainly up there.TFTC Barnsey & Mustang.

21-Sep-19
Spent quite a BIT OF TIME ON VARIOUS LEVELS looking, but nothing. I even spent some time scanning for Maty's key, but no luck there either. It must be on a different level, as it's such a big one...and I missed it.

12-Jul-19
Third cache of the day.
After finding 2 caches this one was my last. I left my bike on the trail and looked for a way up. First I was searching the bottom of the 'cliff' but no luck. So I advanced down the rock face and found a way up. Walked along the top but spotted the cache a bit lower. I jumped down and opened the cche. Very big indeed. Thanks to The Bebes for replacing the cache. Maybe a bit more swag would be good but I had none on me. I signed the log and replaced.
If anybody could, could they please look for a small black key that I must have dropped somewhere. It belongs to my bike chain. Thanks to anybody how attempts to find it and even more to you if you find it which would be a miracle.

01-Feb-19
This is my third find of the day and the second of which i was aiming to find on my walk today. After the cold change came through yesterday afternoon i decided to come grab a couple of caches in this area that had been on my radar for a while.
After finding Brynhilde’s Bayview i walked around along the track to get this one.
I was lucky enough to start my search on the correct level and was able to spot the cache on my first pass.
Despite the nice temperature the wind is starting to pick up and the overcast skies are looking a little more ominous then they were so i had better hurry along.
Thanks.

This one is certainly one of the largest caches I have found. However, despite it's size, it still took us a while to find it. Really enjoyed the area. TFTC.

My, what a big cache you have! The better to hold all that... oh, just the log book. It actually took us a while to find, even though it's so big! This was find 3 of 4 today and all were top notch caches. The view is really good from the marker, in all directions! TFTC!!

I am not a fan of the “throw down” but when a cache of this age, in such a cracking location is at risk, I had to get involved.

In our attic we had the perfect HUGE box, after a few coats of camo paint it was ready to deploy.

I added a large log book and pens. Hopefully future finders can add some large swaps too.

Our box was sooooo huge that we had to move it about 6-7m SouthEast of the original GZ

Photo of new container attached

Cache on !

OCW the Bebes.

We replaced the cache due to fire damage and an inactive cacher.

The Bebes prepared the container so I had the job of carrying in to GZ!!

After waiting for a group of inquisitive kids with their family to vacate the area we searched and found the old GZ.

See the Bebes log for location adjustment. Not far so keep searching.

Hope this one keeps going for a long time. Enjoy.

I'll log it as a find , but most of the hill has been recently back-burned and all we came across was a few pens and the metal spine of an incinerated log. Seems like the CO has been inactive for many years so, unless we were mistaken and its still up there, I'll try to get a replacement cache going in a few weeks. Its certainly a great view from the trig and well worthy of a favourite point.

What an epic this cache was for us. We had added it to the list thinking it would fill a gap in our "Found Month (Jasmer)" grid. We looked at the map, and we, 60+ visitors from the West, saw on our map that Marybrook Avenue continued up the hill, and, together with the 3 terrain rating, thought we could easily do it, as we had just visited the Long Reef Earthcache with a 3T rating.
First problem, Marybrook Ave just stopped there! We parked the borrowed car in nearby Boylson Place and off we went. Private Driveway, no good. Then found a wide trail and up we went, up, and up, right and left. The initial distance being 760 odd metres as the crow flies. Kept going, then at 17 metres looked up....Oh no!
Sheer rock! There must be a way! There was, but it took a lot to get there, and spying the white trig marker was motivation to keep scrambling.
Got to the top. Did as hint suggested "look near the survey marker". No go.
Both of us looked around. I ventured a bit further, mentally composing a very sad DNF in my head.
Scrambled some more.... Then... OMG! I saw it! Sheer relief! When I say, sheer, I mean SHEER! like the rock it was under. We put our mark on the equally huge log, high 5'd and started our way back.
Decided to take what looked like a shorter path, and which was on our maps described as "Marybrook Ave".... mmmm.... luckily we have a sense of humour, as bashing thorugh the vegetation is nothing like the Avenues we are used to... then, what we thought was the track ended, at the top of a cliff! We could see the house below but not being in possession of the paragliders we had seen at Long Reef, what to do? Walked some more till we found some rocks we could scramble and get down, bum-fashion.
The knowledge of having 4G was comforting in case a call to 000 to rescue some crazy old people who should know better was necessary.
Then he investigated a possible exit, which brought us back to the house whose driveway we had scaled at the beginning. A little trespass which we hope would be forgiven, seeing our hot and dishevelled selves, and we managed to get back to the temporary GeoSubaru!
TFTC mustangmerkin. I could have a whinge about a 3T rating, but as the CO's seem to have been inactive since 6 days after the cache placement, we will just smile on and enjoy our filled Jasmer spot, some great photos, and a good night sleep.

OMG, m4yb has really told the story very well and I have very little to add, apart from my humblest apologies for trusting my Garmin and getting thrown off course just metres from civilisation with only very steep cliff faces between us and our borrowed Geo-mobile. One of those times it would have been SO MUCH FASTER to just go back the way we came in.......but nah!

Anyway was a great trekking and proving we still have lots of guts and stamina. SO looking forward to getting back to our accommodation and celebrating with a nice cold beer.

The other thing is the rating for terrain, I feel this is or should be rated at least a 4 if not a 4.5, considering some of the others we have done in Sydney,

Brought the mountain bike to collect a few caches around Red Hill reserve today. The bike made navigating these tracks much quicker than when I was on foot here last time chasing down a Wherigo. Ditched the bike to make the final climb. Funny how a big log book makes people write bigger. Nice views from up here today.

Decided to tackle some of the Red Hill caches today with the aid of my mountain bike. This was to be a solo effort as the geofamily aren’t mountain bike riders and weren’t too keen on the terrain levels anyway.

Parked the geomobile in Lady Penrhyn Drive, unloaded the bike and then headed up the gated road to the dirt tracks. Followed the tracks to "Maladies of Geocaching #4 - The Fugitive's Lair" then continued on to within 22 metres of GZ.

Left the bike on the side of the track and bush bashed, on foot, up the hill to the Trig Marker. A quick search nearby soon revealed a HUGE cache container, TNLNSL.

Thanks mustangmerkin for the great views, and for the nice big cache.

6/08/15. 10:53 AM. Cache #2779. Streak day #410.
3rd of 4 finds this morning.
When I found "Maladies of Geocaching #4 - The Fugitive's Lair" back in May and then had almost returned to my car, I kicked myself that day for not noticing that this one was on the same track and would have made sense to have got it the same time.

Today, I found two of yesterday's new publishes ("Doctor Who - Gridlock, Take 2" in Manly, then "Lionel's Lap" in Frenchs Forest. I then drove to Oxford Falls Grammar and bush bashed up the hill along the fence line to MOG4 (again), so that I could grab a card (again).

Then I continued along the track to this cache, noticing that I was passing through fresh fruit country and could be attacked at any time, so had to be on my toes. The track got to within 15m of GZ; I took a straight line scramble up to GZ and saw the cache immediately on the way up. What a whopper!

Signed log and descended, back to the car at OF Grammar and then drove to "Superb Spot #2". Glad to have picked up another JASMER month in January 2003. Now my only ungound month other than 2000/01 dates is DEC'03. TFTC.

Now that is big! Scrambling and bush bashing required for this but not too difficult TFTC

After doing the nearby Maladies cache I continued over to this HUGE cache. A pity it is so devoid of any swag, not that I trade anymore... And the views from up here...and did I mention the rocky climb to GZ?

09-Jun-15
Streak day #194 - after spending half of today sleeping I decided to make the most of the afternoon daylight to go after a few caches around red hill. The access point is less than 5 minutes drive from my house, so I thought it was about time I completed a few more. I originally started with the wherigo cache MOG 5 deathly deathness, but after getting through the first 4 waypoints I was at a junction that could either take me back towards my car and waypoint 5 or off towards Cromer and more caches. I decided to go down the path to more caches since it was still early enough. As I wandered down the fire trail I was passed by a cyclist, a couple dog walkers and as I got close to this cache a trio of dirt bikers. What a popular area this seems to be. I was very impressed with the skill of the bikers as the navigated a rocky section of trail. I had checked the first waypoint of the Self Defence Against Fresh Fruit cache which wasn't far away. Since the second waypoint was sending me back down the hill, I decided to grab this cache before finishing that multi. As I got closer I realised where this cache was likely to be. The trail got me pretty close then it was time to go bush. I was only a short uphill scrabble and rock hop. I found the cache quite by accident really. I came over a ledge and there it was in front of me and a big cache it was too. It was rather empty, but the log was in tact. I signed it then climbed the rest of the way to the top so I could admire the view. Spectacular.

Wow that a big box but not much in it. Took a ride up Red Hill on the mountain bike. Well pushed it more than rode it more like it. Lots of rocks on the track and steep hills make it more of a walk. Found a track up to the top a bit further on than the direct route.
Bumped my head on a rock over the cache as I was looking in. Ouch! SLTNLN

Nice trail in a quiet, leafy suburb. We were looking at the sky and wondering whether or not the weather would hold off long enough for us to discover this cache and another nearby. Whew! Just made it. We were back in the car as the black clouds opened and soaked the area. Love the size of this. Lots of room for even unusual sized TBs. Too bad we didn't have any to leave behind. SL&R. TFTC, mustangmerkin!

Found this one with CJ this afternoon whilst out on our calendar chase cache hunt around Red Hill Reserve.

There are a few around here that we haven't done and we've been wanting to knock this one off our cache list. With the dark cloud gathering in the sky there were no motorised muggles on the trail or near the GZ this time. The coords and hint were good. It wasn't too hard to find. I spotted something large well out of place before showing CJ. We soon had the cache in hand. We signed the log and replaced it exactly as we found it. Very clever container!

Anyway, it was a satisfying find and a great day to chase down more caches. Thanks mustangmerkin for your cache. We enjoy finding the large ones! SL TNLN TFTC

Went for a great mountain bike ride this morning to pick up 2 Red Hill caches.

The first was GC37Z1H Red Hill. I parked at the gate below the picnic ground and rode until I got to Dreadnought Ave, then back-tracked and approached the cache from the northern side. The camo has all scratched off and I could see the glint of the container through the scrub. I covered it upo a bit but fairly straight=forward. TFTC Dr Livingstone.

I then continued on to The Red Hill Rock. I was really glad to have the bike for this one as it is quite a way. As I approached GZ the terrain became more difficult for the bike. I chained it to a railing which was just out there in the bush, made me wonder why they put it there. A short climb revealed the cache. TFTC Barnesy & Mustang, nice to get an old humungous cache, my first find for this month/year combo.

They should make a new category for this cache. It's a "mega" or a "monolith". "Large" just doesn't do it justice.

I went up to the trig point on top of the rock to take in the 360° views. Thanks for bringing me here.

Now that is what you call a cache!
I had not checked the size of the cache on the listing so I was very pleasantly surprised to find this huge box. Sadly the camo is flaking off and this makes it more visible than it should be.
No problem finding GZ, I was there already to check out the nearby Cromer Heights Trig, the hiding spot was soon obvious and found!
It is only a very short rock scramble and bush bash from the service track to the top with a quite amazing view from there.
Thanks for the great cache, loved it.

Having done the others on the track and seeing this was a large it was too good to pass up but we did go back to the car and come in via Maybrook and Pinduro Junction. (The track down the hill goes the long way via the fire trail while the track up and to the right goes across the top and only has a short climb at the start). Nearing GZ we could see the old trig and its was only a short scramble up to the top where we retook our braing for GZ and soon found the huge container. Great to see it has survied all this time. We completed the signing duties with our new stamp and re hid. TFTC

Caches like this of which we've found a few need a bigger category than large methinks. Nice walk in along the eroded in places fire trail from Cromer road. Great views from this trig point and we spent a little time here enjoying the views whilst completing the log.

18-Aug-12
Another cache for geocaching day today. A great large but took a while for us to find since we approached from the wrong angle and there were heaps of hiding spots on heaps of levels. Luckily after reading the hint we approached from a different angle and found the big cache. Sadly it's a bit empty Sad
Signed log and replaced.
Nice big hike in and out from Maybrook avenue
About 50m from the car geodad decided to take a "short cut" - leading to the wrong road, a lot harsher terrain and into private property... Also probably longer
Luckily turned the gps back on and made sure we were near the right spot before heading back to the car.

I love the cache hiders of this... only played for 2 weeks in 2003, found 1 cache, hid this MONSTER... disappeared, and it has lived!

Came tracking this one down as part of the GeoSportz Olympics which required a find of epic proportions Very Happy Walked up from Maybrook via the trails and took in 2 GCA Trigs on route including the on near GZ here. What a great place! Biker kids seem to have set up an obstacle course but have left the cache along which is good. I should have brought some stuff to place, plenty of room!

Got some great shots and enjoyed the view. Only wish Zhaoy had made it out today, she would have loved it! (And nearly fit IN it Razz)

Cheers! A new Favourite Location.

Felt the need for a night hike after work. Parked the car at the trailhead on Cromer Rd, made our way past 'Brynhilde's Bayview' and around the main trail.
Perfectly clear night, no moon, not much wind. Beautiful.

May or may not have gone in up to our knees en route - well it looked solid by torchlight... Very Happy

Cache found approx 11pm, after a bit of careful rock scrambling.

Pretty sure that a good mate from work/scouts is now hooked on caching - we should see him on here soon as 'harrisonj24'. Very Happy

1050 - 6 for today. Found on 22/05/11 2:57 PM
Came in from Maybrook Ave, followed the track around to the cache. There is a track that takes you to the top. Follow the main track further around and up the hill, you will see a small track leading off on the right, no need to bush bash. Found the cache easily, this is the second cache container that I found that is quite large. Thanks. TNSLLN

The nearby Cromer Heights trig which we published on GCA was a landmark find for us and this cache was a bonus. We'd bushbashed up the hill from Northcott Rd which I wouldn't recommend. Found the trig and the survey mark and then down to the cache. There doesn't appear to be any track from the bike path to the rock which is strange so we had to bushbash around it until finding the cache. It is a big one and it's been here a long time. Very little in it to justify the size now so if someone brings along a desktop computer and monitor they don't need they can drop it in with space to spare! Log book has dried out a lot more but not completely yet. Rescued a little gecko from inside.
Signed the log and followed the bike track out always taking left turns until we got back to Northcott Rd via the edge of someone's garden.
Note all this land is for sale.

Smile A lovely walk, hard climb and some hard bush bashing to have an easy find. Just wondering how big it has to be before it is classed as a "large" one. Had a good giggle about the size. TFTC - TNLN

As said before, the content is soaking wet. The log book impossible to sign. Geo son put it back to his best ability.

Ah, last one for the day.
HUGE cache, spotted about 10 roaches scurrying about. I'm sure the chairs don't need to be in there.
Alas, TFTC TNLN
