Came across this interesting marker while bushwacking through Mint Springs Park in Crozet, VA. Didn't mark the coords. of the rocks, but it was found en route to a virtual cache at the above coordinates (Mystery Tower GCE520). Found 11 caches in the park, this was a nice surprise to stumble upon.

Ancient Navigational can be found even in a forest close to the Swedish city of Göteborg. Along a footpaths you can many times find small “hills†of stone but it not easy to tell how old they are. This footpath can be from the middle ages. In a letter from the year 1312 you can read about a large meeting close by this point. So perhaps this navigational aid can bee many hundred years old.

This rock cairn is located on the top of Parker Mountain in Strafford, New Hampshire. Cairns have been used to mark trails in the woods for hundreds of years. In the harsh above treeline areas of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you can find literally hundreds of cairns to mark the way in really bad weather.

At the risk of being whipped Wink, I pass by this little Inukshuk probably 3 or 4 times a week. It is about half way about half way between my house and the big Inukshuk at the Second Cup on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta logged by mhicks in June 2003. Sure it was made by some art dude and is in someones front yard, but its a marker for me! Once I'm here, just one more Inukshuk until coffee time!

This milestone is situated on the A4 in Wiltshire, UK. The A4 used to be the old coach road from London to Bristol via Bath. At this very location there were Highwayman who used to rob coaches in the nude, it supposedly distracted from their descriptions being remembered to well by the coachmen and passengers. Even today the National Express coaches still use this main coach road from London to Bristol. The milestones along this stretch of the road are all maintained in good condition. T4TC

This Inukshuk was designed to lead the way into the College of the Arts, a campus of Sir Sanford Fleming College, located in the Village of Haliburton, Ontario, Canada. Among other Artistic skills, 'Stone Sculpture' is taught at this location. The Inukshuk is about 2 metres high and stands atop a 2 cubic metre block of Canadian Shield schistosic rock, typical of this region.

This inukshuk was found inside the London Children's Museum, in London, Ontario. It is about 5 feet tall and features stone that contains fossils of a variety of plant and animal life. So, while the inukshuk itself was built not too long ago, it really is ancient based on what it is made up of!

Inukshuk-like Statue
Andres Institute of Art
Route 13
Brookline, NH, USA

We've been planning to return to the outdoor art displays at Andres Institute of Art for quite some time in order to log this large granite artwork which is very reminiscent of an Inukshuk.

This Inukshuk is approximately 9 feet tall, and is on top of a large boulder about 3 feet in height, so I think this qualifies as a large one!

This statue was created in 1999 by Janis Karlous from Latvia. This Inukshuk could even be used as a navigational aid, as it is right at the top of Potanipo Hill and could be seen for miles around if not for the trees blocking the view!

Thanks for the lesson about the history of the Inukshuk and for the interesting locationless cache!

I never expected to find an inuksuk in Washington State. While out caching with a friend and her son, I came upon this one, a lot simpler than the ones I saw in northern Manitoba a few years ago.

After spotting it, we found the cache, and while she and her little son started walking back to the car, I literally ran back the quarter of a mile, grabbed my camera, walked quickly back uphill to the inuksuk, took the pictures and then again ran downhill to the car. (And it was hot!)

Whew! I loved them a few years ago and still do.

On the very last day of this cache, I finally got around to logging it after visiting last summer. According to those who know, the Pikes Peak Highway was built along the path of old native American trails that went to the top of "Shining Mountain." This is also a Virtual Cache. Vort.

We found these navigational aids while in Nassau, Bahamas. The markers were between the Nassau capital buildings and the docks. An adjacent marker notes the landing of Christopher Columbus in Nassau (New Providence Island) in 1492.
