Found this while solo cycling around the Extreme Compass Points of the Island of Newfoundland.

Amazing trip Smile

This monument/sign to Capatin Cook can be seen near Marble Mountain just as you are about to come into Corner Brook.

Cook sailed and mapped this area on one of his many voyages of Discovery.

Thanks for a fun cache!

There are Capt Cook memorials all over Oahu. We found this one in the center of Honolulu at the University of Hawaii. This athletic field was the site of the Masters National Championships for Track and Field. Mr Bug is seen here wiht his silver medal, won the previous day in the pole vault.

While on a caching vacation this summer, we saw this roadside sign as we were entering Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. We were on our way to do the Captain Cook Cache atop Captain Cook Lookout in twon, and took this shot as well. There was a group of local performers re-enacting a play in period costume atop the hill while we were doing that nearby cache, so the overall atmosphere was really wonderful. The coords given are for the large sign as you enter town from the north.

This plaque was placed here to commemorate the discovery & exploration of the east coast of Australia by Capt James Cook in 1770. It was placed here in 1970.

The James Cook High School in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand.
As you can see by the fence in front of the sign we were not able to get into the school grounds to take a better photo.
The school is in a not so good area of Auckland and gets a lot of damage caused by kids in the weekend hence the fench and all the security cameras.
The school teaches children from form 3 to form 7 that's about age 14 - 18.
CHeck there web site for more info. http://www.jchs.school.nz/

12:30pm | Found while setting up other caches nearby!

Whilst snapping coordinates for a series of caches around St Kilda today, Samantha and I wandered past this monument to Captain Cook near St Kilda Pier. Having checked out the list of locationless caches during the week, I had Samantha snap these shots on my camera phone.

As the plaque states, it commemorates the 176 anniversary of the naming of Whitsunday Passage in the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.

The significance of this plaque to the area is more pronounced when you consider that Daydream island has been redeveloped numerous times since the plaque was placed.

The Captain Cook memorial in Civic Park, Newcastle, NSW, Australia. There is great family conjecture about this memorial. One train of thought is the original sculpture of the Endevour was vandalised, another subscribes to the theory that this represents the accidental grounding of the Endevour on the Great Barrier Reef in Northern Queensland and lastly the sculptor was on drugs.

Regardless of which (if any) of these theories are correct, Cook did his bit along the East coast.

(By the way, you can just make me and the GPS out above the scupture. My son is not the best picture taker).

My choice of Cook Memorial is the Captain Cook Tavern, a student pub in Dunedin, New Zealand. I used to frequent the pub in my student days, but only got to count it for the cache because I had a business trip to the city.

This is Captain Cook's Cottage, located in Melbourne, Australia. It was brought over here, brick by brick and reassembled in Fitzroy Gardens to commemorate his voyage. It was originally built in 1755 in Great Ayton, England by his father and brought to Australia in 1934.
