It was absolutely lovely to find such an old hide along the Trail here. 2001!
A small amount of bush bashing on an overgrown footpad lead us to GZ, and the challenge ahead.
Mr Domsky gave a helping hand to get Mrs Domsky on her way up, and pretty soon she was holding the container in her hand.
About the location; it was a spectacular day to be out, with blue sky, little wind, and lots of whale spotting along the way. We walked today with Smythos whose names were already signed here.
At GZ, and up the tree, there were spectacular views, looking down and across the valley.
Thanks Tangles for maintaining this oldie
Domsky
EH did the monkeying whilst we enjoyed the view !
Nice to see an old cache looking so good.
Tftc
By far the oldest cache the tribe has found. Terrain rating needs an upgrade! TFTC.
Parked at the south end of the Wodi Wodi track and set off in the heat with no breeze. Air was thick. Had lots of water but it was warm by the time I was on my way back! The bush is currently beautiful with many of the red gums now having lost 2019's winter bark. It was a really amazing trek up to the escarpment I have to say. Pretty tough getting up (did I say it was HOT?) but absolutely amazing.
Struggled to find my way cleanly thru to the last ~100m or so to GZ but once there, the views were taken in and some train spotting was had! Down to business; I looked around, at first to no avail. So, checked the hint and oh... so had a further look ...still nothing? Hmm. Well, some previous logs soon gave me the required hint - yup of course - and shortly after I had my name in the log. Trainspotting? More like Planespotting lol. Love an old retro stash BTW! My second June 2001 find today. Dipped our [novo Jasmer coin](https://coord.info/TB7AXHF) and re-hid as found. TFTC and views, Tangles. A fantastic journey up to here!

The first one was an attempt on Bush Garden, which was removed last year. That’s what you get for having an outdated interface, but the educational part at GZ was worth it.
The next first one was Divine Armchair, where I had a beautiful view of a train going through the Coalcliff area.
The second one was Caved Away, which reminded me that finding a rusty tin at an easy place is nicer than a plastic box on a very scary place.
The final one for today was Train Spotting, for which I needed to redecorate part of the forest to get enough vertical ascension to get to a stable part of the tree. Once spotted I braced myself and made the move, and then I had the problem of getting down again which was unfortunately via the same method I got up.
TFTC everybody!

*today we going to this area with Tony and Warwick and we found many cache*.
>Thanks for your cache and thanks Warwick and Tony for this time all the best Diddyhonda
This has been on my watch list for so long now.
Out today with diddyhonda visiting from Germany and CATONY visiting from the Mid North Coast to share some quality time.
There were 2 small pockets of caches that provided me a chance to showcase some local caches and cachers.
The first area included what must be the biggest cache in world GZ5ZHFD, and even diddyhonda was impressed. The second was caches along the woddi woddi track. Rightly or wrongly, I chose to start at the bottom and walk up. I don't thing the half of CATONY that was there was very impressed.
This one was special because while it dates back to 30.06.2001 it has only had about 70 finders (many added since I started watching it in 2011) and is one of those by Tangels. A must do cache for everyone looking to do and appreciate the quality of caches placed during 2000 & 2001. What a shame I let it slip for so long.
Arrived at GZ and took in the hint, started to spread the search out and couldn't find anything. Went back to the GPS and read the log by Lonely_Rooster where I gained a useful hint, only because I have met him and am aware of his stature. We ganged together to search a special location and soon had CIH. How fantastic. I have been lucky enough to have met several of the early cachers, but Tangles is not one of them. Maybe one day.
A big thanks to The Arkaroo for undertaking maintenance when it was needed to keep this old cache in the game.
Visited a group of trackables getting ready for an Outback Australia trip.
This time, decided to take the 'high road', from the highway. The gate to the access road was locked so parked up at the Highway and biked it down (mostly) visiting Wodi Wodi, and Boom, a Good View on the way.
In the interim, I've checked with the cacher most knowledgeable of this cache (de facto CO in my mind) Arkaroo, who gave me a hint that narrowed the possibilities.
On applying the extra constraint at GZ, it occurred to me I've (1) been way too trusting of the Terrain and Difficulty ratings and (2) took the preposition in the hint too literally. Once I discarded those assumptions, the location of the cache became obvious, but still a challenge to get to. I'm just happy I had my bicycle with me!
If the CO is about, I'd suggest adding at least one more attribute to this cache listing.
Took TB/Otto the Floatie as it has been stuck here for some time.
Thanks for the cache, errr, I think, Tangles.
Decided to take the 'low road' from Lawrence Hargrave Drive. The 'official' carpark across from trailhead was chockers on this beautiful cool sunny weekend) so parked the car at S34° 14.066' E150° 59.121' and took a 'short cut' before joining the Wodi Wodi track and branching on to the Forest Walking track.
Reached GZ without a hitch. Then spent the next 30 minutes looking in/under/around/every-which-where GZ and the hinted object. But nothing. Not a great start to this series
Seeing how the cache hasn't been found for 8 months, it could well be very well covered/buried under foliage and rubble.
Will have to return for this some time.
Next visit, I might take the 'high road' from Princes Hwy, it looks a nice (and quicker) cycle ride with much less altitude change.
The track deteriorated a little with some wash outs, a rope decent a couple of water crossing and some up and downs plus a slip and slide. The trip up seemed to just keep going up and then moved further from GZ. At a listing of T2 they certainly had a different assessment back then. Once up top and taking in the views we followed the geo trail to GZ. A bit of monkey work was required and the cache was found (no power point of Swedish back packers spotted. A check of the log saw a continuing theme of no physical log from Jim&Marissa (see photo). Now with our names in the log and the major climb done we traversed the top of the cliff for other nearby 3 TFTC. Caved away was next with Team Canary doing the retrieval honours. More great views here TFTC. We then pushed on to Divine Armchair. We kept looking for a little track out to this one to avoid the heavy scrub bash and eventually found a lighter section of bush. This one took a little bit to find and another spot with great views. TFTC. It was only then a short way to Bush Garden. Initially we went too high and then we dropped the correct level and both closed in on the hide. With the signing done we took a different way out and back to our starting spot. Not as scenic but at least the elevation change was minimal. TFTC. Great trip to do with caching friends.
We parked at Stanwell Tops and had an extremely tough walk through he valley to this one. It featured creek crossings, slopes, rope descents, climbs, more climbs and leeches! I'm sure there was an easier way!?!
Then at GZ there was more adventure to be had. But soon we signed just after the invisible ink of Jim & Marissa!!!
A truly epic journey for a 2001 cache. Only four left and one 2000 in New South Wales for us!
TFTC.
A big thank you to the Arkaroo for getting this one going again, I've had my eye on it for a while but didnt hold out much hope for it. Too my surprise after planning to do this walk today I saw he had resurrected it! Nice work mate, and much appreciated.
As for the terrain rating, they bred 'em tougher in those days. Thankfully the darling wife made an elegant retrieval of the cache whilst I looked on in admiration.
TFTC
I missed the closest track at the hard to find train station, but found the next northern one which the Woddi Woddi track started at, and had a nice trek through mud, creek crossings and almost overgrown foliage.
At one point when we took a rest, I spotted three walkers on the track above us. I hoped they were just bush walkers, but once we made our way to GZ I saw one of them getting back from the cache. It was a race to claim the lonely 2 year cache, only to see that Muppet beat us to it, but had yet to log it online.
Thanks for the cache, and the replacement.
Found a park along the main stretch, with lovely views from here.... its going to look better from up there!!
Walked up Wodi Wodi Track until the tracks split.
bit of gps mucking around and i finally went up and around.
Then we hit the lookout spots. Wow!
Quick bushbash to gz... then the fun began.
i was expecting something similar.
After a clove hitch and a bowline, i had my foot-up.
Took some happy snaps and happy days!!
The walk back down was just as pleasant. Headed out to the local trig ccc6 to sea what i could see.
Thanks for the cache Tangles + The Arkaroo

New cache container in original position! All good, folks, you can go and seek for this historic cache! It's a 1l systema, now, with only logbook and pen. As promised, we'll keep these old things, from the very beginning of geocaching running! Please remove the 'needs maintenance' tag, if you guys can (owner or reviewer).
By the way, if you think Caved Away is hard to reach, you may have difficultis with the present.
Today a perfect winter day! Went to coalcliff for winterswimming, but the Sea Eels were out in Bondi - so I thoght a better way to profit of the sunshine is to install the new container up on Mont St. Michel (or so?). Left my jumper in the car - just my aussie teeshirt - thar was warm enough to walk it up, all in one go. Four local muggles and a doggie at the lookout near the main path, but here all, was quiet to do the operation. Have had the exercise few tiomes, as afte installation, I though I take a picture! Quick look to my neighbor cache, then back here. GPS tack on the map is attached. At WP11, you start the walk, make it up to here GZ=WP09. My favorite path down is via the crest, where at WP10 you need to get down the ciffs, at sea side. tunning views, but half way down, after the meadow, you'll lose the track and follow roo path and bash the bush! TFTCM, Tangles, for this nice spot!

Found but the log was just laying on the ground along with the pen and had been for quite some time and the container was where it should be but the lid was all but destroyed.
Having read prior logs I came prepared but didn't know the hide was so open so the container while weather proof is not water tight.
Maybe the next to look can take a water tight container and replace mine.
Anyway had a new clip lock bag and put the old log back in as it was dry, put the pen back and a few swaps and put it back where it belongs.
Like all Tangles caches you just never know what you will get and it is always tough.

One of my other favorite spots, I checked the cache to press the Arkaroo's hanko into the log. Hmm, the log as been wet before, now it dried out, but some pages stick together. It may be still worth replacing the container - forgot, otherwise I would have helped out! It's getting dark right now, reminding me a hike in the Ecrins National Park, dark in snow at 2300m altitude, 20 years ago, or so. TFTCM again, enjoyed!

Thanks Tangles but as others have said maybe its a bit higher terrain rating than a 2. All in all great spot and great cache. TFTC.
A warm walk up the hill, the cooling breeze at the top was a relief. We soon found GZ with a short search revealing the cache. A quick sign by all, a look at the view and then back down the hill again.
Nice one Tangles!
best wishes,
Wal
Anyway, today was the day. We loaded up the child carriers and off we went up the hill. Nice track, good gradient and some outstanding views. We popped up to Caved Away first then came back and started the search.
Surely not? Yes, that's where it must be- as someone recently mentioned what might have been a 2 terrain some years ago would probably be a 4 now!
The lid certainly is cactus but I hope this early cache stays alive.
Another Tangles cache down (not many left these days). Thanks!
The lid of the container has a long, circular crack, half round. It won't be waterproof any more and needs replacement. I placed the cache upside down, hole at the bottom, so that water flows out of the container.
30.7.2006: The Arkaroo couldn't find Train Spotting
This one was on my to-do list since 5 years! My 8th attempt for a cache ever - I found one more that time and then enjoyed a geocaching break lasting 4 years - exactly 1513 days without a find and without any attempt. Until I found 4x4 Pass in the stoneman we erected as well in 2006 - at our favorite camp site near Broken Hill.
Today, Train Spotting was the closest not found from home! Have been up here to this spot plenty of times - but without the intention to seek the cache. Today, RockSandra and I packed the expedition gear to come here on purpose. The winds were icy cold, from the west, and this hill is well exposed to sunshine, protected from the air flow by large trees. And the views! The views to the ocean were magnificent these days, the spray of the breaking surf taken back out to the seas.
After arriving, it was as if I searched for it just yesterday, pushing my face into the Doryanthes Excelsa. These are wonderful species up here. A little exercise - that's why we do it - and the cache was in my hands. Pretty sure, I looked into that spot 5 years ago and really wonder why I didn't find it!
Thanks for the wise hiding of a cache in a region, which is now protected by the Illawarra Escarpment Park - it would be extremely difficult to get it authorized today, in particular having the risks in mind one could encounter. Alone the creep of terrain rating - from a simple 2 in 2001 would be squeezed into the upper ranges nowadays. Oh, what the world is dangerous!
Of course, we have a little cylinder in the bag, not just visiting travel bugs but also to install a new cache in the vicinity - just outside the park area.

Apparently Tangles has a different rating system to mere humans... that was *not* a 2.5 difficulty retrieval. Ropes, harnesses, maybe a ladder, would all be useful. After a lot of huffing and puffing, The Snooty Fox got into grasping range of the cache and the log was signed. Getting back again, though, was a whole other adventure...
The walk and views were great, though. TFTC.
We walked a few kilometres from the old highway and it was really worth the effort. The walking trail was in very good condition for this part for the walk and it is always a joy walking through the native Australian bushland.
Arrived at GZ and thought WWTD? (What would Tangles do?) and spend a few minutes looking in the less likely places before returning to the first thought and had the cache in hand shortly thereafter. Awesome cache. *recommended*
Great location, and a super hide.
TNLN, thanks,
The Hancock Clan
After doing Bush Garden rode the MTB towards the cache. Amazing when you get the cache, the view just opens up. Cache located easily, a bit of a bugger to get to, MTB came in handy. TNSLLN
Had to look for a while because I started to search more simple a while ago, half a year ago this would have been the first spot I would have looked!
TFTC Wilbert67
Anyhow, having severely tested my almost nonexistant fitness, we were almost there when we came across a bunch of motorbikers throwing boulders from the top. I politely explained that, having been beneath that position very recently, and having passed several other groups on the track, it was probably not a good idea to do so. Fortunately for them they departed soon after, probably worried that I might stage a repeat of Thelma & Louise using them as cast members and their bikes as props.
Now having the area to myself, A short rest was in order before beginning the cache hunt - fortunately this didn't last too long, did the cache stuff then departed. Oh yes, the view was much appreciated too. Thanks Tangles, this is definitely one of or favourites.

Cheers.
The ride we found most enjoyable but very difficult in places with the track very overgrown in parts. The weather started out fine but turned to a very welcome light rainfall just in time to cool us off for our journey back out.
This has got to be one of our most favourite caches to date and nearly had us stumped for a while but thinking outside the square paid off in the end.
Left a TB & a Coin for the next lucky finders.
Our many thanks to you Tangles for giving us a reason to have this adventure.
So after walking the 6k's along the Escarpment track I was a bit disappointed to DNF this one...Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.
This is a great little walk with exceptional vistas. We started out in pretty bad weather but this soon cleared to a spectacular day for walking. My inability to find the cache was more than compensated for by the profusion of wildflowers, Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos and stunning vistas along the way.
Sitting here now and reading the older logs I am sure that I ate my lunch sitting right next to the cache. Just have to head back this way and try again (I think I will do this on the mtb next time).
TFTCA (thanks for the cache attempt),

Bushy2233 nearly stood on a very friendly Blue Tounge Lizard laying in the middle of the path.. We rode the GeoMountain Bikes in across the top of the escarpment, I've been here many times before and the cache was only a few metres away and I didn't even know it..
Thanks

TWas an excellent walk up there, however I looked in the actual hiding spot twice without finding anything. As we were deciding to leave, I thought it nesessary to go for the phone a friend option because we thought it had been muggled due to the number of beer bottles lying around. Turns out it had been in the spot i had looked all along, i just didn't look hard enough.
