Archived cache after receiving confirmation it has been assumedly muggled by DOC when removing the platform Smile

06-Aug-05
We can confirm it's not there - we had an old print-out so didn't know it'd been archived/temp disabled. Sp00k insisted on heading for the site straight from the closest section of road - good thing the ground was relatively dry. What an amazing selection of sub-alpine vegetation. We didn't have time to tramp on to the tarn, but we will be back.

Hmm, cache was under the platform, so if that was gone, so has the cache probably. Temporarily disabling till I get a chance to confirm. Cheers Gav

Well, we searched and searched but could not find a cache. There was no snow on the ground so that wasn't the problem, but right where the WP was there seemed to be indentations in the ground as though there used to be a small platform or sign erected here. There isn't now. Possibly this cache is no more? Still, great view....!

We had been following Q moto all day and when we got here just on dusk we could see his footprints in the snow.
Snow (fresh overnight) was 6 inches deep, and with no clue it was like searching for a needle in a haystack under the thick blanket of cold stuff.
Relieved to see Q Moto didnt find it either, it made the almost frostbite easyier to cope with. We will come back when the snow has gone.

An easy but very worthwhile cache; what a great spot. We had a rare clear day and admired the heavy snowpack still on the mountains. This cache had some nice stuff; I remember we took the jump rope and the cariber clock, and left some things we hoped were of equal value (but what exactly, I don't recall).

Nice One! Will take your word and return another day to see the fantastic view. Actually, a neat area to walk in the rain and fog. Took nothing, left nothing. Co-ordinates were spot on. Many thanks

Beautiful place for a cache! There was still snow on the mountains and it was really cold, with wisps of tissue-thin cloud embracing the mountainsides. Although the weather had closed in the birdsong was wonderful. An apt name indeed for the cache!
Took the whoopee cushion(!) and left a party popper.

13:00 On holiday with muggle friends. Persuaded them to check out the photo opportunity and found cache easily. Certainly worth stopping for.

We agree, it's a lovely outlook from here, and a pleasant little loop track. When there were no cars going past, we could hear two or three of the waterfalls we could see crashing down from the snowline.
Took: photos, left: mini tape measure.

This is a spectacular cache site. Just loving the views. Crisp winters day, snow right down on the mountains, blue skies above, and we could see all the way up the Canibal Gorge to the majestic Gloriana Peak. Did the walk up to Ada Pass hut and climbed half way up Gloriana in the snow in very similar conditions about 3 years ago now. Had to turn back half-way up the mountain as we were under time pressure to get all the way back out to road. Will return, with more time, sometime soon. Once again - loved doing this cache - also loved the way there was perfect GPS coverage at the site Smile - you can always count on Gav to lay us a good cache Smile Thanks! Tim & Vida

This is a must-see for all 'cachers!! Besides my favourite Tasman Glacier cache this one is up there with Spit Beach for scenic beauty. A lovely summers day made this a very pleasant walk indeed - many thanks for another welcome break. No exchange. Road Runner travel bug has done a runner - picked up a day or 2 before.

Nice spot. Took the travel bug, Can't remember what I dropped off now.

Stopped and had a drink break near the cache sit on my way home from Picton, via Hanmer Springs (hot pools) with Road Runner travel bug. Dropped him in the cache so that others can enjoy his company.
Hot summer day, remarkably different to last time I was here (see photos on my previous log).

Cheers,
Moneydork.

No exchange other than + Road Runnder TB.

Found this on my work lunch break. We were doing some survey work for nearby Maruia Springs. Didn't know what to expect with no clues. Yea great view of the Spenser Mountains.
Cheers

Heavy snow (4 inches) on the ground, freezing cold. The snow made it easy to get to the cache location, initially by following the track past the tarn, then short cutting to the cache.
Brrrrrrrrrrrr it was cold.
Kicked some snow away from some bushes near by looking for the cache, then thought like a cache layer and found it easily.

Will post some pics of the snow with this log, though they didn't turn out well in the dark.

1pm. Mrs BaldEd’s 3rd cache find. Lovely views on a lovely day with snow capped mountains all around. Took pix. Bailed out cache and dried it. Water was probably just condensation. + Skipping rope (a survivor of the original Acheron Accommodation House cache), - fizzy bath tablet. Off home now with just one more stop to seek out Nina. (For a laugh be sure to drop by and read the log reports of that cache). Red Face

Walked in past the tarn. This is a lovely nature walk that reminded us very much of a similar walk at Arthur's Pass.We will stop sometime in the winter when the snow is on the mountains.
We watched a helicopter transporting DOC walkers.
Took balloons and left glow in the dark smileys.
Thanks Gav
