Today we had two reasons to come to the canyon and happily we accomplished both.Great to see the old caches sticking around, not sure if its the original container but it is in good condition and the log books were nice and dry. A great walk along the beach talking with a few people we met, if we were here yesterday we could have seen some seals and dolphins, oh well we still got to pat some lovely woofers. Thanks to B and B and Hurtle for the cache.
Never been here before ... will probably never return. Nice walk along the beach but once we got into the canyon it was hot, prickly and lots of flies! Happy to find cache, sign log and get back to the beach. TFTC
This was another cache that was on the shortlist due to it's age, there are only 50 of this month in Australia so it's always nice to find one, we looked at other access but ended up parking as close as we could and just walking along the beach. We were a bit worried by the DNF but the cache was spotted in the 2nd or 3rd place we looked, DNF'er must have painted on eyes!thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. This was the first trip to the mainland for this group of Tasmanians in a while, we flew over on the 24th and left early on the 3rd. With 4 days in Goolwa followed by 4 in Glenelg we managed to get some caching done in different areas and pull in a select list of caches we all almost all needed, old caches were on the list as normal but also some different D/Ts with some high fav pointed cache making up the remainder. The trip didn't start well with Qantus losing a bag which made us rearrange a couple of days but we got some 4WDing in and a even some driving on the beach to get a couple of different caches, boat trip to Adventure Island was a great start on the day of the Mega too.All caches were stamped "Team Tassie" which consisted of myself, gooseandegg, Budgietas and Tassie TrekkersFound on 28/02/2024 at 16:22:00 thanks to Hurtle for placing this cache for me to find. We parked on the beach at the closest point were allowed and had a nice stroll to the canyon. Once we turned in, it heated up. Following a DNF we were a little concerned but persevered and found the cache. Another old one found. The usual trio of myself, stainless steel rat and Budgietas was joined by Tassie Trekkers for The Great Leap Forward trip. We decided to cache down south around Goolwa, Victor Harbour and extended reaches for a few days, before basing ourselves in Glenelg for the second half of the trip where we cached around the city, the hills and the Barossa Valley with a highlight being a couple of hours on Adventure Island. Many thanks to the Mega Committee, all the helpers and many local COs who kept up busy and entertained. Most logs were stamped with Team Tassie.
This cache was selected due to its age. Always great to visit a cache over 20 years old. That you for placing and maintaining this cacheA long days drive toward from goolwa overnight to Glenelg via quite a few caches down towards kangaroo island. Some brilliant caches for the day including a walk through a cave at the cache surrender the booty and walk around the oldest EarthCache in South Australia at sugarloaf. It was a very pleasant day including a number of beach walks. Luckily it was a perfect day for these walks. Tftc
Today is day 5 of our SA Great Leap Forward Mega adventure. Based at Goolwa, Mr T, Gooseandegg , Stainless-Steel-Rat and Budgietas concentrated on finding caches with appropriate D/T 's to fill their Fizzy Grids and this was one of them. We signed the log Team Tassie. We found a variety of hides with varying degrees of difficulty.Enjoyed caching in this area, cache and contents were in good condition. Many thanks to all CO's for your cache placement.

So I’ve just had to run an errand to Sellicks Hill, I look to see what is in the area, and this pops up. 2003!!! I’m in! A bit of a walk from the steps to the beach, but totally worth it.
Thanks so much Barry and Beryl, and also Hurtle and others that have kept this one going.

Last one for the day. I walked from the stairs and entered from the beach at cactus corner. Meandering along the creek bed I got close then bee lined it to GZ. Coordinates spot on. Cache in great condition. Thanks for the cache from the original owners and the on going maintenance by Hurtle.
I went on the fourth of May 2021 and I couldn’t find it. I searched around the canyon for about half an hour with no luck
Came down for walk here today, to do maint.
Always a great spot.
A new cammoed clip lock container with a new logbook and swaps.
Left the original logbook in situ, as it is now dry. Please be careful with the pages.
Tweaked the co-ords, then returned to beach for the pleasant walk back.
Thanks to those whom have done maint on this very old cache in the past.
Let's work together to keep these old ones alive...

If I do not or cannot get to GZ to replace this one in the next 28 days, then I will reluctantly archive it.
FYI... this is my streamlining policy, that will occur, unless a good Samaritan cacher wishes to contact me beforehand to arrange a replacement if I cannot get there in a timely manner.
Thanks

Went for a pleasant drive down South today, a few drive by caches and a few short walks.
A nice wander along the beach and up there to find an oldish cache!
Managed to stamp the damp log book.
As previously noted the cache does need some maintenance (sorry I hadn't noticed this before setting out) as the lid is cracked and water and critters can get in Log book appears tasty
Thanks for placing this cache for us to find Hurtle
A nice day out caching and walking with the help and company of Jack and Purrfect Di
Stay safe, sanitise, exercise, cache the regions ! ! !
Chatting with the previous finder today at work he mentioned that the lid is broken and the container was full of water. The logbook is soaked. I am doing a needs maintenance log to bring it to the owners attention.
Mr Suelee was feeling cooped up this morning and as it was a beautiful day with hardly any wind we walked the 4.5 kms from where we are staying to gz. Cache was soon in hand, log done. Thanks for the cache and the exercise
Fantastic walk from the Sellicks Beach ramp. Live in Aldinga and never explored here before. Thank you so much!
Don't know how many times we've contemplated this cache when in the area .
Today, looked down from up top and the tide was definitely in . The area was damp and cool after last nights storm and I spied something out the corner of my eye to help me down the 'hill' .
A careful scramble soon had me at GZ .
TNLNSL.
A grueling climb had me back at the car - can always use the exercise, but that was intense [|)].
Highly recommend NO-ONE attempt the cache this way [xx(].
Thanks Barry, Beryl and Hurtle.

Found it on a photographic safari. What an amazing location. Thanks for the hide.
What an exciting find for our gaggle of geokids. We marched them up the beach (including a heavy 2-year-old with a broken femur being carried in a baby carrier). By the time we made it to cactus valley his mum was cactus! We trudged up the dry creek bed and arrived at GZ. A wide-spread search ensued with all 7 of us looking under rocks and gingerly avoiding snakes!
Finally an 8-year-old found it after reading previous logs. I agree the difficulty level and terrain level should have been higher. Great hiding spot! TFTC!

Big thanks to Sommershunters for replacing this old cache...
Muchly appreciated to keep these oldies going....

As promised, we spoke with the cache owner, and they kindly agreed to us changing the cache 'tub' that had been eaten.
We therefore returned today and took a new cache 'tub'. Pleased to report it was still in it same place and we have left the new one there with all the same items that were inside.
Good luck to future hunters!!

This was our first family trip geocaching! We followed the beach to the valley and then followed the creek and sheep path to the coordinates. It took us about 10 minutes to find the cache! Great hiding place! Unfortunately the cache is in a poor condition, there are holes in all the edges and the insides are getting moist. The log book had been well eaten. As we live close by we shall contact the cache owner and see if they would be happy for us to change the outer container. Thanks for a great first find!!
The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention.
I am temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary.

Whilst this cache container may need maintenance, I deemed it was still being found and insitu, so DOESN'T need disabling!
Leave my cache alone and go find something to do elsewhere!

Went for a walk down the beach past the little caves and sculptured cliffs to the canyon, followed the dry creek bed before following a sheep trail to GZ found the chewed container after a short search, nice loction

Found with Csaba! and SupaOrange before I had a caching name. A very late log. Turtle out.
Difficulty and Terrain on this one have some explaining to do. Walked out near GZ with the snorkel gear and geo kids. Stashed all the important stuff in the bushes for safe keeping and while walking back to the beach I stepped on something that went straight through my thong and into my foot. After an extended moan on the rocks it was time to wash off the flood of blood. After a snorkel I very slowly hobbled up to GZ and found a container that looked as beaten up as me. This one certainly requires replacing ASAP. Once the log was signed I hobbled now even slower back to the car for another swim. Thanks
The box is broken and something has been eating the contents (including the log book).
Found with LittleSparr0w. But of a trek up the beach then up the creek bed. TFTC
Well found it as you can see and yep the container is a bit worse for ware .. haha .. I live local so think I'll put its contents into s new one .. is that ok?. Easyish to find but a good hide all the same and you get to explore cactus canyon in beautiful sellicks beach. Have fun!.
Ok ... time for a road trip - Mum and Dad came down from Qld, in their campervan, for a visit, then Mum flew home (ready to go overseas with a friend) and Dad and I headed off in the campervan, on a trip from Canberra (where I live) to Adelaide (where I was born) for his sister's 80th ... we spent a week driving there the long way, and taking our time visiting some interesting places and checking out a few places we used to visit/live/etc ... and stopping for me to find the odd cache or 5 ... or more ... lol
We then spent a week around Norlunga, Moana, Sellicks Beach, Mt Compass, etc catching up/visiting/doing things with relatives, and driving around looking at places we used to live/do stuff/etc, and a few beaches and other interesting things ... and me finding caches here and there as we went
My Auntie Carol and Uncle Robert live near here ("Bobs your uncle" ... yes Bob IS my uncle - lol) and we "camped" in their driveway for a couple of nights ... We all came for a walk to the top of the canyon the day before I found the cache ... And Dad and I had fun looking at the landscape, and the GC map on my phone, and working out whereabouts down below, the cache would be ... so the next morning, when Dad decided he would come with me for a walk along the beach to find the cache, we headed down the long stairs and along the beach and up into the gully, and decided to see if we could pick out the spot we had figured out from up above ... I was closer than Dad - lol - he said he thought it was somewhere, but I said no, it is "further up there" ... and when we got there he agreed ... so I looked with the app on my phone - and it agreed too so, Ai looked for the cache, and found it
Also looks like something else has found it - rats? - looked like every corner of the container has been chewed off, so there were about 8 holes in it!
TFTC - a nice fun walk along the beach and back, and a good excuse to have some fun exploring a random gully
The photo is a butterfly we found in the gully after I found the cache...

Can't believe you can drive on the beach - so cool! Drove then walked up the beach to inlet and went off road to find cache. Took a while but got their in the end. This cache is certainly for the keen. TFTF Hurtle, we enjoyed Sellicks beach and will be back for a swim soon.
Found after a long dog-walk from the stairs to the southern part of Sellicks. Went for a swim and then found the cache in good condition. Signed log. Didnt see any snakes, even though the day was warm and sunny.
From the off-beach parking area I fought my way along the beach against a stiff southerly wind to the canyon then headed inland. Found the cache in good condition then got blown back along the beach to my geomobile. A nice walk despite the wind. TFTC Barryd SA.
Found It!
I've been meaning to do this walk for a while now but each time I was in the area it was too hot, the tide was in or I just didn't have the time. Today I just had to stop and do the walk. About 2km there and back.
Once at GZ it took me ages to find it. I suspect the bush has grown a bit since it was hidden since the cache was a long way into it. Eventually I got my head in just the right spot to see the edge of the cache!

We were off on a little beach walk to explore in the rock pools with the kids. I said to hubby it'd be a great place for a geocache - opened the app and there was one conveniently not far! Now, I'm a HUGE chicken when it comes to potential snake environments, so my heart sank a little when I saw it was around 150metres inland. Despite having bub in a sling and only having open toed shoes, we trooped on. I had a TB that would have been perfect for this cache. We made it to the cache area without seeing any slithery little suckers. There were even some muggles on the cliffs above. After searching for 10 or so minutes we gave up. It was quite hot away from the sea breeze and my fear of snakes was urging me out of there! It's a beautiful spot and one we'll definitely head back to for another try (perhaps closer to winter when I'm not packing it about snakes and there's a bit of water in the streams for my toddler to puddle jump in)
Found in the company of Chaotic Luna on a lovely day caching around Aldinga.
This terrain rating needs to be at LEAST 2 if not 2.5 just for the length of the walk in and the Kms of large pebbles you have to walk over (making my ankles hurt 2 days later) plus almost not beating the tide to get there and back. Got a bit sunburnt that day too.
Great view from the top, Don't even have a second thought about coming in from the top, about halfway down there is a drop off, good thing I didn't try even though I wanted to!
interesting area!

We first looked at finding this cache some seven and a half years ago, but didn't seem to have the time for the walk. Today we really needed to get out of the house, and this cache seemed the perfect reason to visit the area.
We parked near the boat ramp, some 1.5 kilometres from the cache, and enjoyed a nice stroll along the beach to the canyon. We took our time, and grabbed a few pics of the rock formations along the way. Cactus Canyon itself had some water flowing out of it, which made for several fun crossings.
The cache was found in the first place I looked, and is in good condition for 10+ years in the field.
Thanks Barry and Beryl.

Thanks Barryd SA for sending me on a walk along Sellicks Beach.
I hadn't done that before and the rock formations fascinated me.
The waves as always were fabulous and there was lots of interest in the mountains of seaweed.
There had been rain and more was threating, the stream was flowing well and I managed not to get wet but I did get one very muddy shoe.
The expedition is worth a favourite point.

Spectacular day for geocaching and mother Earth. We easily found the container with lovely items. The walk over the beach was stunning. Just before we experienced an astounding synchronisity, we met Mel and we both thought 2 days ago this would happen.
I am not sure how you get to this one very treacherous if co-ords are correct, so did not even try to get there. But once back logging on finds I read previous logs, the cloud cover must have put co-ords out by a long, but also being a 35 deg heat today it was perhaps a sign for us not to try for this one in case of those brown slippery things about.
What a way to find our 300th cache...climbing down the cliffs! I don't know why we ignored your suggestion and not enter from the beach, maybe we wanted to add to the adventure! The day was as stunning as it could be. Quite cold but the sky was blue, not a breath of air and the sea was so calm and a beautiful blue. Thankyou for bringing us here. Left travel bug.

After driving as far as we could along the beach parked and took 1.2km walk along the beach toward the cache. Lots of people around but we had to go off into the gully and after short walk in (no snakes today) found the cache. Cache contained TB but we left it behind as we didnt know objective. TFTC
I didn't make it all the way to the cache as it was out of my comfort zone (snakes) so Stussy80 to the rescue TFTC
So was worried about doing this one as I thought snakes but it was ok just a couple of sheep & I was not coming back TFTC
A pleasant walk to the canyon, and a quick find. The cliffs were pretty in the late evening sunlight.
Thanks Barryd SA.
Thanks Barryd SA.
Took out a virgin cacher called tonkakev. He'd been up here 2x but with a little help we found it
Well, we went a searching... but we only have a crappy Nokia for GPS and it certainly wasn't helping in the canyon. After 15 mins searching we came across a 1.2m Brown Snake, we decided our hunting was done and we hi-tailed it outta there. Not a find for us today and i can't say we'll be in a hurry to come back.
Great time we had on the walk to the cache, and such a nice day for it.. Easy find tftgc.....
loved the walk in would never had come down this far if it wasnt for the cache thank you so much for leading me here tftc !!
Great place and stunning walk to get to, couldn't find the cache . Loads of pesky flies, one went up my nose, wear repellant!
A very nice walk, we parked on the beach for this one and still took a little to get to the tricky spot, very hot day today was refreshing to walk back along the waters edge, TFTC, Lovely location, wonderful place for a day out. TNLN.

Well..... what can we say, this was a long walk, but we got there in the end. We opened the log book to find the last visitor was "Snapper" We took a moment to remember the times we crossed paths with this lovley man. We dropped off a Coopers path tag here.
