A nice area and one of my target caches because of it's age. The cache was fully of water and the log was impossible to sign. I left a piece of paper but it really needs a new bag and the log to be rite in the rain. Thanks
Finally, found a weather window to ride and enjoy the beauty of the Wilderness Trail with a couple of friends. We had an amazing experience. TFTC
#4,026: Lakeful Smiley!Out for a nice ride along the WCWT. Only two of us are cachers, so only signed for us. Cracker of a weather day, with only light winds, and no sign of any precip. Since we were more on a biking mission than a caching one, we only found a couple. Great day all around.Once I found the right tree, it was a quick find.Gets a fave point from me for the oldie-but-goodie status, the nice area, and the fun day out!SL/TFTC!!
Log full.Walked here interesting race. I have walk along other power, gold mining races.Tftc now walk back to camp.
Down south from Tauranga. On a roadie with a group of friends. Great to collect a few caches along the way. Many thanks.Sigining as Team DAM to save room on logs. Found wilderness trail today. I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. Its just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the DoC Hans Bay Campsite at Lake Kaniere … we decided to go for a bit of a drive to pick up some roadside caches, then we parked up & decided to walk some of the West Coast Wilderness Trail to pick up some more caches … this cache was easily found, log completed & replaced … we ‘grabbed’ the two TB’s that were in this cache … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... T2TB’s:LN:SL ... #3,937 for us.
Found on a rainy morning. It was nice to get this old cache. Log is very full. TFTC!
This part of the ride is so beautiful and interesting. Thanks for the cache and the information! Greetings from New Hampshire, USA!
2662. Quick stop by here as we cycled the trail. The log is very wet. TFTC!!!
Great wee spot , log needs replacement as it is full , didn’t have anything with me sorry
Well I had not heard of this lake before, it was looking really beautiful when we arrived today.
Quick find of the cache not exactly at the place I have taken the photo.
Thanks for placing and maintaining caches along this bike trail.

We biked this part of the trail and it was great. They are doing up parts of the race as well. Chatted with other passing cyclists. They were doing the Wilderness trail, but we were only sampling it... Thanks for the good clue, we didn't have to block the trail for too long. Cache is all good. TFTC
Found after driving from Christchurch over to Hokitika. Flat plains to the sky, into the foothills, over the pass, gorges and dense forest. Magic scenic country. TFTC
This was an oldie that I was targeting this holiday trip. A very enjoyable bike ride. Hint was very helpful. Thanks Sallies for looking after this and all the other oldies that you own.
I was sure overthinking thins one, but a quick find once I was at the right spot! TFTC!!
After conquering Mt Brown and claim the ftf at the same time anything else I do today would be a walk in the park .
That take a few minutes to locate while dodging cyclists and not slipping down the bank tftc

We are now exploring around Lake Kaniere. Enjoyed walking along this race track in the bush. After a small search we finally got this one snagged and tagged. Cheers
Friday 8 February. Its on our bikes at Lake Mahinapua. Then off to Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere and back to Hokitika. Moved north with Zara to Kumara Junction for the night. So lets go exploring!
Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places..

#17810. I really enjoyed the walk along the water race. Shame no swimming is allowed; it would be ideal for an inner tube ride! Great to find an historic Sallies cache. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on a lovely sunny morning on a drive to Hokitika Gorge, then back via the Dorothy Falls and Lake Kaniere. It was a very scenic and enjoyable trip.
A lovely walk along the water race. What a lot of work had gone into constructing it. Cache wasn't an instant find as we couldn't find a hiding spot that would match the 1 1/2 terrain. In the end, we had to ignore the rating and scramble down the bank, where SW made the find.
Good to find another Sallies cache and a vintage one at that. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.

Beautiful walk.
Definitely worth the walk. Thanks for the cache. Bit damp but able to write on it.

The GPS had me over the other side, surely not I thought. Located the cache and then I had to haul myself and my new hip back on track. Lovely part of the cycle way. Ms M
We played Pooh sticks as we walked along this track. Nastya won (as always). Grabbed a TB from the cache. TFTC!
Made our way along the track to this cache. Found easily enough. Contents of container were wet but we had come prepared with a rag to dry things. Dried and signed log sheet then put it into a plastic bag to help keep it dry for longer. Left a TB. Tftc

Had free afternoon after research work around Hokitika today so decided to come out to Lake Kaniere to find a couple of oldies.
Perfect weather so awesome views too! The waterrace walkway looked pretty magical too, with sunbeams coming through the vegetation, and the mossy waterrace beams on one side of the track.
No problems with finding the cache but it is a bit wet as mentioned.
Interesting, in Latvia, we have a lake with a very similar name - Kaņieris. But as the name Kaniere here comes from the acto of sawing pounamu it's probably not related in any way to the Latvian one.

Today the next tour with Vesperugo. It is a wonderful Region and we liked it so much to walk, explore and search the boxes.
Thanks to the precise coordinates we could found quickly. There was a lot of water inside, but the peace of paper is only wet but stabil and we could sign the found.
Many thanks to hide the box, show us the place and do the maintenance.

Cache is wet.
No soaked.
I never had time to dry out.
May come back to replace log if I venture out there again.

What an awesome walk and area...a very fitting place for a cache....first time out this way ...stunning and extremely enjoyable...thanks sallies well done ..I will return to finish getting the rest of the caches around here
We drove out to Lake Kaniere this morning as everyone said it was a "must do" and yes I agree. Of course I had no coverage but winged it on this one as we were so close. All good here. Thanks for the cache Sallies
Yet another lovely walkway in the stunning part of the country. When I arrived at GZ the GPS was indicating that I needed to cross those beams so was very relieved when I read the description to find I didn't need to. TFTC # 13,015
A nice and quick find, another oldie too. Cheers.
Today was a day spent in and around Hokitika, with the weather mostly overcast, and only a wee bit of rain later in the day. Had a great time on some walks, and finding some puzzles and multis.
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

I decided to have a trip out to Lake Kaniere today to locate the caches out that way plus a few on the way.
I had nice walk down next to the water race.
Cheers for the cache.

Managed to avoid getting run over by triathlon competitors along here. What a great cycle track! TFTC
A weekend trip away with the WASPs - the Woodbourne adventure sports people. Today it is something much easier than we normally try for, the West Coast Wilderness Trail. A nice easy 50km ride today, starting at Kumara. And, as seems to always happen, I am the only geocacher in the group.
Day two - just a little jaunt down the water race. What a great little walk - well, ride. Loved it. Gets a favourite.

Had a spare hour so popped out for a wee walk and a cache. Lots of small bits of vegetation on the track. Easy to find cache but not in good condition. Container ok but full of water. Poured the water out and signed as best I could. Everything very wet. Needs a thorough clean and dry out. Tftc. A lovely place for a walk after the storms.
A day biking the West Coast trail. Oh, this one is a 2003 cache - that's an extra bonus! Cache wet unfortunately. This water race is delightful biking and such a lovely place to be.
Quick find while biking the West Coast Wilderness Trail, last cache before lunch on the way from Hokitika today. Left a sheet of waterproof paper for a new log. TFTC
After a delightful walk we managed to make the find between passing cyclists. I poured the water out of the container but couldn't even leave a mark. It was just to wet. Thank you Sallies
This cache was found easily enough, trying to leave a mark on the sodden log wasn't though so Hazedarus took a photo instead.
Thank you Sallies.
Thank you Sallies.
Hideeho Thanks for the cache:) Greetings from the USA! Touring New Zealand and stopping for cache. Very much enjoyed the walk to this cache on a misty rainy walk.
After finding out we couldn't go for a walk (because no dogs zone), we left the area.
Still wanted this because of the age and went for a bit of a run.
Easily found with the hint. Was just wondering what the use is from the beams above the water.?!

Lovely walk- am really enjoying the kaniere caches today! Left a tb tftc ♡ ♥
We drove around the lake and we found some boxes. Every box we could find easy. Thanks for hiding them
Over on holiday in Kumara so drove out to replace the container and contents. It was very wet today - and so was the old cache!! Rodney and Iris.
We stopped to find this one while enjoying the great cycling alongside the water race on the way to Hokitika. TFTC
A real nice walk, unfortunately the log was wet but still able to write in it. I drained all the water out. TFTC
Found while riding the wildernesstrail on my cycling journey around new zealand. Tftc
Enjoying caching while cycling the excellent West Coast Wilderness Trail. Found with Edvern. Thanks for a cache in such a wonderful location.
Found with Mapper Ted while riding the cycle trail from Cowboy Paradise to Hokitika. What a wonderful track this is along the water race. Thanks for the helpful hint Sallies, as the GPS was quite jumpy in the bush.
Based on recent logs we have modified the hint. The coordinates remain the same as coverage is spasmodic and the actual final digits depend on the day. Should be obvious once you are there. Rodney
A fairly quick find, although as agcnz said the cache is now hidden at the base of a tree, about 1 metre from the track, shortly before the cross beams, and the hint is totally obsolete. Our coordinates were S42 47.668 E171 08.279. The old water race is certainly an interesting feature, and we note new timber bracing has been installed in a number of places along it. TFTC
