visited with surgez and runnz tagged along to heckle us in our attempts to find cache whilst he watched on.
we decided to go caching today, and realised there was a geocoin lurking about in an area we had not yet been to for caches.
We read the cache page, and discovered that low tide was needed, quick research and luck meant low tide was 40min away. Off we went.
Found cache quickly, and was able to keep our shoes pretty dry and clean. Thanks willbuild.

Novel place. Convenient timing on Easter Sunday holiday. Found it easily with GPS and 2mtrs above sea level and Xmas tree roots clues. Our little girl had great fun. Only one today. Thanks Willbuild.

I was in the neighbourhood so thought I'd check this cache out in case my timing was good. I went down the steps and out on to the sands and couldn't see a clear way across to the island. I wandered about a bit, and then caught sight of a sea-shell/sand bar that went across to the island! Sweet Trekked across and headed to GZ. Took a few minutes searching to find it. I'm starting to sense that Pohutikawa's are as popular as Cabbage Trees up here No exchange made. On the way out I say what looked like a flock of Arctic Terns that I'd seen in Iceland last year. Not the same birds - just the same type. Cheers Gav [416]
Tide was right out so no problem getting out there although my daughter did slip over in the mud at one point which resulted in much laughter. Nice and sheltered at the cache location. Thanks for the walk.

Found it within 10 minutes, (my wifes eagle eye) Opened the cache and left it as it was. Will go back today and make a swap as we only live a few hundred yards away. Our first find. Lots of fun and amazed that a geocache site was so close to home. GPS Co-ordinates looked spot on.
PS Went back and swapped tape for small toy.

We visited this site at 7.40pm on this beautiful warm evening while the tide was out. Found it after about 5 minutes when I remembered the "2 metre above sea level (high tide)"
Thanks Willbuild nice site.

This was a fun cache. We got there a bit early, and so keen were we to get a move on, not waste any time, etc etc, we had to get our boots a little wet
Really nice spot, thanks for bringing us out here!

Another family caching day. Watched tides carefully, some junior members are slooooowww.
After reading in the logs about coordinates being out, I was prepared for a long search. However noting that the cache was 2 metres above high tide left only a few hiding places. The second spot we checked struck gold.
Took badge and tape measure. Left stickers, pencil holder and plastic hook.
Back over the tidal flats looking at crabs, sea snails... and a lone starfish.

Second attempt at this one and decided to use the mountain bikes. Ran out of time and tide last time. After allowing for the error noted in previous logs we found it easily.

My son-in-law wanted to go geocaching here in NZ after giving him a taste for it in the UK when I was there a couple of months ago (visited Highgate Cemetery and few others in London). I had a list made up last year for around Beachlands-Clevedon area but didn't quite finish it. So decided to give it a bash today. Hope to get 5-6 done.
Looked at the tide table and decided that this one had to be first.
Also found the cache was out by 15-20 metres.
The day was not the best with a nice strong westerly and a few showers. But hey, cachers don't dissolve in the rain.
Left Emma TB (picked her up from the Highgate Cemetery cache in London).

Found it!! , 2nd attempt at finding cache
Was out there yesterday afternoon but to no avail.
Returned with a mate new to geocaching, was searching for about 10mins then he stumbled upon the cache, about 30metres, way from co-ords. The co-ordiniates that i found it at were S36 52.643 E174 58.833.
3rd cache for the day, time for a cold beer and watch the last part of the cricket.
A great place for a cache, cool area.
Cheers

2nd time lucky. With my suspicions about the co-ords confirmed I went almost straight to it today.
TNLN except I left a blue ballpoint as the red one has dried up. The pen I left has only minimal ink so another pen or pencil would be a good idea.
Thanks Willbuild.

[Arrived a little early - had to wade through the water to the island. I had some pronblems finding the cache. I had to spread my search pattern to ] a horizontal nz xmas tree fifteen meter north.

Club trip (as below) went ahead despite 20kn forecast. Was brilliantly sunny and calm on the way over from Cockle Bay. Had the same coordinate problems as HLD and KaimaiKid before me - just take note of the terrain rating. Lindsay's first cache with a brand new GPS. Then the howling wind picked up! - thank goodness we were on the sheltered side. No worries - a good work out into it to get to 'River View'.

After reading HLD's log, this was very easy to find after doing 4 Willbuilds caches today, but my gps placed it more 30 mtrs sort of south of the waypoint.
great spot, very stormy at the time, rain was horizontal and wind around 80 kmh.....had to use crown to log visit.
swapped nil
thanks

I'll be running an Auckland Canoe Club trip to this cache on July 19th, so if you're interested in coming on a paddle with a spot of geocaching - let me know (mattAtVsl.co.nz) and I can try to arrange a sea kayak if you haven't got one. We'll be meeting at Cockle Bay at 9am, and the paddle shouldn't take more than an hour (at most) each way. We may even go for the 'River View' and 'Mangemangeroa' caches depending on time and interest.
Cheers, M@

Found after a scramble up and down the cliff and barking up the wrong tree GPS was insistent but found to be 15m out. Nil out, Dwarf token in. Thanks for the fun.
Could not find this one but I did not climb onto Island proper. A definition of which sea level datum is referred to would have helped
I had the waypoint about about 15 meters out on the seabed. searched the likely places adjacent, but some looked a bit dicey. I had a minor landslide come down on me at one point after poking in a hole with crumbly clay in abundance.
The tide was returning so called it a (not very satisfactory) day.
