CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks. The geese are not at all happy with me. They sat on the water next to GZ and basically barked at me the whole time I was there. Then they followed me barking until I was well away from GZ.Thanks High Flyers and happy caching
Down from Whangarei for a few days, so just had to make sure to grab a few caches whilst down here.Approaching from the north on my exercise jaunt this evening, I thought this one wasn't that far further to go, so carried on towards it. Ooops, no direct access from where I was, despite only being 70 metres away... Oh well, an extra 500m there and another 500m back just added an extra km to my distance for today. Cache was a nice quick find at GZ. TFTC
In Christchurch for a week, out geocaching after taking two grandsons to school. Thanks High Flyers for the cache.
Definitely a longer trek than the map implies. Would recommend gumboots and long pants. Thank you for the cache
Came for a walk down here today to explore the area a bit. All good onsiteTFTC High Flyers, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 1 today, making this find #4661
Happened to be in the area at low tide so thought we'd try and get this one. Still pretty wet underfoot so Mr B (who had the best footwear on) headed off down the track on his own. He was soon at GZ and made a quick find. TFTC.
Sneezing fits having grass at face height didnt stop this short hayfever sufferer finding this cache this evening. TFTC
Realised yesterday that today was going to be a nice day, and low tide was at a time that works for me - perfect for this cache which I have been keen to find for my jasmer grid. Biked to the area then as I got close realised that the bike needed to wait behind so locked it to a tree and proceeded on foot. The cache was in good condition, there were three log books, all perfectly dry so I just signed the one I found first. Thanks for the cache, it was a fun adventure.
Through the long grass and over the stream did I follow my companions, with geese making noises and the beautiful view of the moon rising over the trees. A thoroughly enjoyable walk at dusk. Favourite given.
The day after the ‘Insane 200 Day’ and it is a slightly slower day - more about finding caches we are targeting and attending two events. Caching with TwigNZ and Itchyfeet2020. Logs signed TINT.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache High Flyers.

I've been in the Garden City with Itchyfeet2020 and NZ_B for the weekend, and what a weekend it has been! Cumulatively we had targeted so many personal challenges, individual caches we wanted to get, 'things' we wanted to do etc, that teaming up with these two caching troopers has been one of the best things I've done in ages. We've achieved so much in our short time here that my mind (and body) is still reeling. I'm sure the enormity will still be sinking in for many days to come.
After our mammoth efforts yesterday of finding 236 caches in 1 day (16 hours to be precise) we had decided that today would be a far more restful day, with only challenging ourselves to finding 12 Cache Types in a day. Little did we know at this stage what kind of day we would end up having lol.
This cache was one I really wanted to find, as it would help me with my NZ Jasmer Grid. Luckily for me Itchyfeet had already visited this one before so had warned me of what I might be in for. Actually it sounds like I had it pretty easy. The mud was mostly manageable, and I had long trousers on so the long grass wasn't a problem per se. I wouldn't recommend rushing along the 'path' though as I encountered several ruts which might have turned an ankle had I been trying to speed through the grass.
But eventually we got to GZ and found the cache right away. No issues at all to report with the cache. As we were here at sunset, which also coincided with the rising of the full moon, we did spend some time taking photos on our way back
All our signing of logbooks this weekend has been as T.I.N.T (for Team Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, and TwigNZ) regardless of how many of the 3 of us are claiming any particular cache (as some of us may have found it previously).
Thank you for setting this cache up, and bringing me to this interesting location.

One of several caches located today in between doing a couple of Ad Labs. Fortunately I hadn’t read the description in full, or many of the logs. If I had, I might not have undertaken this one. It was a mission-and-a-half! I approached from the Baker St end (off New Brighton Road). Firstly I had to ride through a considerable quantity of water (as in the attached photo), then through some mud which clogged up the back wheel of the bike. Seeing the long grass in front of me (see the photo, taken on the return leg) I then abandoned the bike and started walking the 200m or so to GZ. There isn’t exactly a track there and the grass is quite manageable, but it just takes a little time to get there. The cache itself was located straightaway. #5798. TFTC.
Recommend wearing long pants! Needs maintenance - looks like the string has snapped. We re-tied it but might be a good idea to replace it. Couldn't find the entry by bower Street but the one on the Baker Street end was clear. Tftc
I found it with dad, a bit of a hassle to get to it, have little cuts over my legs from the long grass. But a really cool Cach. TFTC
A weekend away in Chch to pick up one last PW and then puzzles, challenges and oldies. This was on the list. Approached with trepidation having already faced mud on some others, but this terrain looked to be formidable! However I got lucky with dry the entire way (have wet feet from earlier adventures anyway Great to get another oldie. And big enough for one of the TBs I have been carrying around since my America Trip to - bonus. A fantastic cache and adventure, thank you.
I had the day off work so I thought it was time for a bit of caching. It took a bit more time to get to GZ than I originally thought but no problem finding the cache. Thanks
Sir Belac and I went to get this afternoon very boggy and slippery . I have been meaning to get this cache everytime I come to Christchurch I can now mark it off my list. Tftc
What a mission!!! Once we found the trail heading in the right direction, we still had to navigate the mud! Found, thanks
Easy find once you get there and I was surprised to find the contents completely dry. they're not kidding about the mud, wish Id read the description before blithely heading down the track on my geocaching map by bike!
After the last few logs I decided that I really should check up on this one. Went at low tide, just before dark. The path was very overgrown and muddy but I managed to walk there with only the soles of my shoes getting a bit muddy and no wet feet at all. The container was exactly where it belonged and the gps was bang on. Replaced it with a brand new container and contents. I also tied it to the cabbage tree with blue cord in case the tide gets really high! I will get in as the cache owner and adjust the description and ratings. This cache is a very old one and the school children who hid it are in their mid to late 20’s now!!! Good luck, have fun, remember - wear sturdy shoes and go just after low tide. Rodney.
The cache was exactly where the description, gps and hint stated. Checked and replaced the container and contents as they were looking a little jaded, though perfectly dry.
Remember to go at low tide!
Remember to go at low tide!
I check up on this one now and again for the High Flyers - who are now well into their twenties instead of year eight! I will check it again in the next couple of weeks, when the tide is right and the planets are in alignment. . I have to say that, because I go soon after low tide, and usually wear tramping boots I have not yet got wet feet when using either approach. The track is very overgrown, where it is not washed away, but is still negotiable! I will see about getting the difficulty/terrain ratings adjusted after my visit. Rodney.
This took a while to get to as the track indicated on the geocaching.com map coming from the west does not exist any more; it is under water. We came in from the east, down river. What is left of the track is completely overgrown grass. It would appear that no one walks here anymore, apart from geocachers coming specifically for the cache. It took us a little longer than we should have to retrieve as it was more base of the cabbage tree than the harakeke. The container was full of water, and two plastic bags were completely soaked with rusty things inside. We replaced these disgusting objects with a new inner container, and log, which will hopefully stay dryer. It was great to get this old cache, filling a gap in the month found table. Lots of beautiful birds here: heron, black swans, as well as pukeko. On the way back we found that the tide had come in, and we got wet feet crossing the path. Never mind. TFTC!
In Christchurch for the weekend with Gadget169 in search of some high FP caches for the Carnival Souvenirs. This was one on our list to fill in the month hidden grid TFTC
Came up to CHCH with KJR to find caches with high FP for the carnival souvenir. Nice and easy find this one. TFTC
This was our target cache for today, as the month placed fills a gap on our grid. I had read through the cache page and knew that gumboots and a low tide were both things we needed to consider. So, gummies on and our visit planned for low tide we set off to find it. Our first look at how to get there failed so we wandered along until we found an obvious spot. There was a little bit of mud and some overgrown greenery to get through but we soon arrived at gz. The log book was very wet but we managed to scribble our name on to it.
Thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

Obviously there has been some subsidence around here due to earthquakes since placement. My map showed a track coming from Wainoni Rd but that was obviously underwater. An entrance to it showed up downstream from the cache and after wading through some flowing water less than ankle depp I reached the remains of what was once a dry track. Mudcrabs have taken over some of the wetter parts. It was generally quite easy to follow but I was glad that I had my gummies and overtrou on. GZ was soon reached and the cache was quickly found, tied in place so it doesn't float away during flooding. Logbook is wet and unfortunately I had left behind in the car some spare paper and plastic bags. It was great to find this quite old geocache.
Didn't find it looked everywhere it took me half an hour and kept on looking but Couldint find it
I was on my way to a friend's place when I realised that I do have a little time for a little cache! This one seemed like a good target, and although I have been eyeing it up because of the age, I have never actually read the description!! Now faced with a very muddy access, I did, and then a quick check confirmed that I was at the right place at the right time On with the gumboots, and I was off for a quick walk, quick find, and a quick walk back. The birds were not impressed with me disturbing them , maybe because they were not pukekos. TFTC!!
#5224. We are staying in Christchurch for a few days and today we were in the New Brighton area at a family function. Not much time to do geocaching today. But managed to nip out for a short period to locate this old timer. Finding an access route that wasn't too wet or muddy was the main challenge. Eventually saw a path on my maps that proved OK. Bit damp in places but my shoes were fairly dry by the return. The cache itself took a few minutes to narrow down. Once located I discovered the contents inside were indeed very wet as reported by previous cachers. So pulled out a slip of fresh paper to sign and put it in a ziplock bag. Replaced cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here High Flyers.

I was eyeing this for a long time and passing the area by quite often but never got around to actually going and hunting after this historic cache. Well, the day for it finally came. Found on a dog walk. The dog enjoyed it thoroughly, but we had to shower her after all the mud and stuff.
We came in from New Brighton Rd, and wanted to go out all the way to Wainoni Rd but apparently the tide was too high for that and we were stopped by water somewhere halfway along the way between the cache and Wainoni Rd. So we had to turn back there.
Cache contents are very wet. Tried to sign in the logbook, I managed something but it was too wet to sign in properly.

In CHCH to visit friends for a long weekend and had an hour time for some geocaching in the area. Very wet geocache. TFTC
I said a little prayer while walking to this one, "please don't slip" It would have been messy!! Anyway, no slipping, log found as per hint. TFTC and the experience.
8.30pm. Tide looks like it's coming in but I found a longish relatively mud free route after ignoring the footpath closed sign. A well shingled road goes down to the river and gives easy access to the old track that passes the cache. Mud was minimal on my route. Thanks for the cache!
Did not even attempt this one as the whole area was submerged under the huge tide.
You definitely need your boots here! I went at low tide but was still squelching through the mud, I returned by the longer and slightly less muddy route. Cache in good order, TFTC!
A quick walk at a lunch time visit soon hade me spotting the cache. I picked up the TB too.
Found small blue canister with log with only 3 names. This is only my second time and am wondering if I found the wrong one?
[green] On my way back from a long, tiring two weeks at Christchurch, centred on the Mega event there. A wonderful day, beautiful blue ocean and many thanks to all the cache owners from today and the last two weeks. I went up two belt grades, found over 750 caches this month, all except 20 of which were in the last two weeks!
I wasn't intending to get any cache in Christchurch today, was going to start caching the route back from about Waipara. But I checked my hidden months, and this cache popped up I had not yet found a cache hidden in May 2003. So out here I came. Was a little muddy, but the mud was only a few millimetres deep. Saw one pukeko, and heard lots of geese. They were honking at me - seems I must be in their stomping grounds. The cache was an easy find, then back to the car to start my trip back home to Blenheim.

car GPS lead me in circles, parked, followed the logical direction on to be blocked by water, walked up the road and down the track, found the throw down cache from a few years ago, then found the actual cache.
Find #3846 We read the cache page and notes before we started, we had no trouble traversing the track and arrived at GZ to make a quick find , we had no trouble with this cache and would recommend to all TFTC
A Challenging day out around Christchurch with Gullivers Travels54 collecting many challenge caches and a handful of those in between.
This was one on the list for me based on the month in which it was placed. It was helpful to fill a square on that calendar for me. So having done some reading on the cache it was up in the air, until I checked the tide and we were heading in this direction just 30minutes after the last low tide, so perfect timing.
We set off, and were careful of the mud, although it really did not impede the progress at all. Really nice to find a cache with such age to it. So we got our names in the log and headed back to the car. A nice way to finish the day.

In the area with time to spare today so checked this one out (following some recent comments). I did it as the tide was coming in, starting at the Bower Ave end and finishing at the Palmers Road end. The track is indeed overgrown and subject to tidal flooding, but I walked the whole distance without getting wet feet, or even muddy shoes! Doing it after low tide is easy, other times are more challenging, but that is one if the aspects of geocaching! Not every cache is in a bush at a parking spot. My inclination is to leave it where it is, raise the D/T level a little and continue to remind people to check the tides. Rodney.
ps. There are actually three possible approaches, not counting wading through the swamp or swimming across the river: the short but muddy walk from the Bower Avenue end, the longer but drier walk from the Baker Street entrance, and the short but very challenging approach along a long extinct path behind the bus stop opposite Palmers Road (not recommended!). The CCC are currently working on the track near Baker Street so it could well be much improved in the near future.

Checked this one out today after recent comments. Everything was fine. A short time after low tide it is possible to come in at either entrance and get to the cache without getting wet or muddy shoes. We have no intention of archiving or moving this cache at present. Have fun! . One of the secret high flyers.
Number 3/3 for muggle brother. He is becoming a good asset for Geo Hunting. As mentioned in previous posts it is overgrown and rather muddy.
The "walking track" isn't much of a track anymore. Completely overgrown in some places. You'll sink a few inches into mud with most steps. Would have been a good hiding spot once upon a time but owner might need to consider moving this one soon.
The sun was out, the tide was out, the time was right. Called in to this one today and replaced everything - container, logbook, trinkets. Tied the new container to a harakeke stem in case the tide gets really high! Didn't get wet or muddy. Rodney for High Flyers.
Heck that's a trek in the dark. Glad I popped me gumboots on. Well worth the quick find this winters evening. Tftc
I went to check up on the coordinates on one of my new multis, that is close to this cache. Even though it was drizzling heavily I decided to search. I was already wet and I had my parka on anyway. BBear44 did warn me about the mud. My boots don't mind mud too much, I just hoped it was not quicksand like. Thankfully all was fine. [^] I did have to watch my step. I saw crab holes and heard Pukekos but I did not see them. It may be the only cache I find today due to the rain.
Found it hubby had to jump over water to get to it lol he fell in. Oh well he's happy we could mark another one off
