*Found on the 14 Oct 2023 @ 12:39pm.**Cache find # 15146.*Today I was heading for Ditchfields camp for an event later on today, but before that I made a detour to Amphitheatre to then head into the hills to finish what I had started a while back.Last time I headed down this track there were so many trees that had come down across the track after a storm that went through the area that we decided to give it a miss which turned out to be a good thing as this track is a bit beyond the capabilities of the outback.Today I swapped 4 wheels for two which was so much better suited for this track.I got to a point where I had to leave the track so I parked the bike off the track and walked the rest of the way, once in the right area the cache was soon located and the log was signed.**Thanks to chooknchunk for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**

When making some rough plans for our weeks stay in St Arnaud, Geoturtle had mentioned that she really wanted to spend a day exploring this area. She likes looking for the old caches and the chance to practice her 4x4 driving.
At a bit of a chat last night, others mentioned that they would like to also have a look around the area so we ended up with 6 Victorians, 2 Canadians and 3 Vehicles.
We left St Arnaud at about half eight and were on our way after fueling up.
Avoca was our first stop as the bakery there has some awesome combinations and our overseas visitors had never heard of, nor tasted a snot block.
With taste testing over, we were on our way.
We had a good day with great company. Many laughs were had, caches were found and some great views and driving fun was had.
As it was getting dark and we could see rain heading our way, we chose to leave the hills behind and come back another day to complete what we didn't get to this time.
Avoca was again a place for nourishment, both food and beverage. After everyone had had a good feed, we stopped in at the Chinese Gardens and the cemetery for that "just one more" cache.
Thank you to all the CO's that made this possible. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day and we will definitely be back to look around some more.

Before leaving Melbourne, we discussed the caches that we wanted to target with OHC and I mentioned that the ones in this area were definitely on my "to do list". Quite a few of them have CO's that we know, they are old caches and we have heard a lot about them.
We had today free so with a few more friends (and two more cars), we headed to Avoca to visit the bakery after re-fuelling in St Arnaud.
Once we had finished our snacks, and introduced our Canadian passengers to the delights of "snot blocks", we were on our way into the bush.
We had a great time exploring the tracks and locating caches. There was only one road that we chose to not attempt but there were more than enough other tracks to get us where we needed to be.
We saw some great views and explored a mine shaft or two. We eventually found our way to civilisation and found a few more caches.
We watched the sky darken quite quickly and it was decided that we would make our way back to Avoca for some dinner and come back another day.
I believe we all enjoyed our dinner and we made our way to the cache at the Chinese Garden and then onto the multi at the cemetery. By the time we got to the cemetery, it was dark and drizzling which definitely added to the atmosphere of caching in a cemetery at night.
From here, we re-inflated our tyres and made our way back to camp at St Arnaud.
Many thanks to all the CO's that placed, maintain and adopted these great caches. We are looking forward to coming back here and doing the caches that we didn't have time for today.
Again, to all the CO's and today's company, Thank You for a great day out.

Out on a geocaching trek with seven others in 3 vehicles to conquer a few geocaches in the Pyrenees State Forest. Chasing some old caches and also some different D/T combinations.
After fueling up we departing St Arnaud at 8:30 in the morning in convoy and headed direct to the pies shop in Avoca where Kangaroo Pies and Snot Blocks were on the agenda for our international guests. We reached our first cache at 10:45 for a quick find, the start of 24 in total for the day. There was some easy driving tracks, a few missed or incorrect turns, some fairly heavy 4x4 tracks and many interesting places were discovered.
By the time we arrived back in Avoca at 6:30 pm for a counter meal at the pub most were weary and needed a meal and beer.
Somewhat revived we headed to the Chinese Garden and the local Cemetery for a couple of quick caches on the way back to St Arnaud, arriving at 9:30 pm.
Thanks everyone for a fun day!
All caches were quick finds by one or another of the group.

Great location. Thanks Chooknchunk for taking over the maintenance of this cache and therefore keeping it alive.
Maybe back in 2003 the terrain of 2.5 may have be find but these days the track is, we believe, at least a 3T, and that is to the parking for your vehicle. The walk to the cache is indeed easy as you are on top of the ridge with great views. SL TFTC
It is with great regret, that I am unable to look after this, and many more of my originally hidden caches. It has pained me that some have disappeared because of my inability to maintain them as I should.
I recently attended the 15-year reunion in Lerderderg Gorge and I met some wonderful people, strong in the Geocaching Scene. They helped me to understand the importance of keeping the original caches alive. One fine couple asked me if they could adopt some of my caches that they- themselves have been secretly maintaining, as they have been unable to contact me. I was astounded, and humbled- and heartily agreed that they could.
So it is with great pleasure- I hear by hand this cache over to “Chooknchunk”
They will be the new rightful owners. I trust they will do a better job than I in looking after this cache, so other Geocachers continue to enjoy searching and finding.
My many thanks to chooknchunk for taking this burden, and if you need any future assistance- you know who to call on.

We are honoured to be handed custody of these important historic geocaches, placed by Pyrenees Kid and Mikita. We will do our utmost to preserve them so that future geocachers may continue to find them and enjoy their special locations.
In this series from the 2003 4x4 Winter Caching Event, many of the original buckets had broken, and are currently replaced with other regular-sized containers. However as we find appropriate sturdy buckets of the correct size, we will replace them so that each cache will become as close to the original as possible.
Caches are certainly fun to find, but the friends we've made through geocaching top it all. Thank you Darryn. Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)

A plan was hatch today to meet up with chooknchunk, ST37E and Wozzle68 to tackle some of the caches in and around the Avoca region. What a fantastic day we had! After driving as close as we dared we still had 300 metres of terrain to cover before we reached the cache. So up the hill (steep!) we went! Arriving at GZ maintenance was performed before signing the log. Thanks for placing Pyrenees Kid.
Having enjoyed this fantastic series of caches last year, we, along with Wozzle68 again, couldn't resist the opportunity to accompany our friends ST37E and Glanville Girls on another day out here in the Avoca Hills. It was a perfect autumn day and a great fun day was had by all. We also came prepared this time and were able to replace any broken containers and soggy logs as required. Thank you again Mikita and Pyrenees Kid for this legendary series. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
Enjoying our day out here exploring the Avoca Ranges, and having a great time with Wozzle68.
This was a fantastic walk that tested us, and a nice location to reward us at the end.
Cache was found in good condition, neatly tucked away in its hidey hole.
Took our time walking back out, and stopped to look at the beautiful wildflowers that were emerging from the rocks and dirt. Giving this one a favourite as we really enjoyed the experience. TFTC Pyrenees Kid and Mikita.

This was a fair walk in for me but I was able to do it by taking my time and with the help of my trusty trekking pole.
Found in the company of the effervescent duo that is chooknchunk. Earlier in the week
we made plans to hit this beautiful area to pick up some older caches. We had a great time here today, luckily it was cooler and much less windy than yesterday. The cache is nice and dry and in good order.

Last time I was in the Pyrenees, we didn’t bother with this one as it was a 300m walk and it was teeming down. Not so this time, so we did the walk and found it easily. TNLN.
Walking [?]. What's that [?]. I suppose it gives the neck a bit of a rest from checking out the track .
Funny how you always look at the base of the tree first . TNLNSL.
Thanks for one more Pyrenees Kid & Mikita.
PS. All of these buckets need replacing quite urgently - they've done their duty well since 2003, but it's really time for an update now [xx(]. This was probably the best one of them all .
Maybe someone can adopt these, since the CO hasn't been active since 2012 [)] (last logged in 2013) [?].

Up in Avoca specifically to clean the caches up in the area. Had a thoroughly fun day 4x4 driving through the Pyrenees Ranges enjoying the great vistas and collecting caches, even some unloved ones.
We loved driving up here on the ridge of the mountain it was great to see the drop either side of us.
This one was a bit of a hike , testing our fitness levels but we found GZ and the obvious hide.
Thanks for the cache Pyrenees Kid & Mikiti
Ps we picked up the TB as this cache had not been found for over 10 months.

Went to a couple of wineries this morning then decided to go up the hill to find a few caches. Finally at the top or so I thought. Parked in the middle of the road again as there was nobody else about and walked in to this one. Easy find once at GZ.

Beautiful weather, 4WD packed, geodog for company on this caching trip. Enjoying my new diff lockers, actually passed another 4WD when pulling over to stop. And as always I took the scratchy way to the cache. Left Canadian tb. Thanks
Needed to nab this one after an earlier DNF on a 'Pyrenees Kid' cache (a bit further up/back the track). Happily, this one presented well, (Dylan 7a's 4 WD is a very handy vehicle) though a tad full of water and a very wet log. Expected a frog to emerge. Should dry out OK. With Dylan 7a. Thank you to 'Pyrenees Kid' for the cache and its location. TNLN.
Found this one while doing a 23km hike around glenpatrick with Bmak. Was a really good walk and it was nice to do some caches on the way. TFTC.

Was minus the other Dudez, but Deano had Muggle Dad as Driver, (might make a cacher out of him yet )
Found at 14:50
Probably should have done this one earlier today. Was a bit tired in the warmth of the day and water was running low.
A surprising gentle walk to GZ and cache located after a 3 minute search.
Time to head north again for our last two caches.
Took Clothesline

Found after a very pleasant day exploring a few of the 4wd tracks in this area. The drive into this one wasn't as easy as we planned as there where quite a number of trees across the track after the recent storms. After parking the car and walking to GZ we couldn't help but be amazed by the force that must have been in these winds. We were glad that we weren't here when mother nature was at her worst. Once at gz the well hidden cache was found quickly at 15.00

Now this track takes on the true meaning of steeeeep.
A quick find was needed here to enable our return to civilisation with enough light to negotiate our way out.
We took a Wallace & Grommet Key Tag and left a Mondo Figurine.
Thanks again Pyrenees Kid & Mikita, we will have to return another day for the rest of this excellent series, and next time come back with a more suitable vehicle.

We couldn't find any tracks leading us closer to the cache so we had about a 200m trek from the truck to the cache...
As it was starting to get close to sunset we hurried through this one with TNLN as we left everything back in the 4x4...

A bit of adventure on the way to this one. A larg tree had fallen across the track so we cleared as much as we could and then with the encouragement of Cat I was asked to drive over the trunk of the tree. I got one front wheel on the top of the trunk and then was told it was too risky. So I got the snatch strap out, wrapped it around the trunk and pulled the tree out of the way by reversing. I then hit a tree behind me, but no damage (thankyou mr. tow ball). Got to as close as we could to GZ by Patrol, then walked 500kms(!) along the ridge to the cache. Looked for a while and at 3.50pm we found it in a spot we were not expecting.
Took - pen & pencil set
Left - packet of nails.
Thanks PK & Mikita - this is a very beautifull area and we will be back to do the other caches in the area, but we now have to run back to Castlemaine so that Veronica and Jonathon can get back to Ocean Grove to do some work (assignments) before Monday morning.

Found in the company of Team Boo, Biggles Bear and Kiwideb. Team Boo and I made a separate assault on this one from an alternative starting point, beating the others to the area by an absolutely huuuuggge time gap, having taken a flat course from the track. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalise on the wonderful head start we had gained and the cache was not located until the others had joined us.
In reality, we waited ages for them to arrive, and then, and only then, did we start looking for the cache. Once found, I took another sewing kit, and left a pen/pencil set in its place. Then came the arduous and backbreaking walk back to where the cars were now parked.
Thanks to Pyrenees Kid and Mikita for this cache and the whole day.

They had arrived from a different way then Biggles Bear and myself.
Happy to say I found the cache before them not that its a race or anything .
Swapped Winnie the Pooh pen for a belt clip.
Many thanks Pyrenees kid & mikita

Found 15:30, for this cache a two pronged attack was planned with Muzza and Team Boodi approaching from the down hill side and Kiwi Deb and Biggles Bear approaching from the top. Took Car freshener and left 'G' Clamp. Thanks Mikita & Pyrenees Kid.
Found by embi, J and trex as part of team trex. Thanks to the organisers. We had a great day.
Cant remember what we swapped....too many caches. Reached 100 caches today.

Found in the award winning company of team trex (nutcache & embi) as part of a great weekend of four wheel driving and caching. No exchange made. Thanks Pyrenees kid & Mikita.
Found in the company of geofreak and embi during the 2003 4X4 winter caching event. No exchange made but fun was had by all. Thanks Pyrenees Kid & Mikita.
Nice to have a bit of a walk to find this one. Set off with Darren & Maccadad and after a brief hunt in the general area, I found the container. Took a car and left a keyring. Thanks PK!
Ahhhh. I remember this one. This was where Muzza and I decided that we were two fit young lads and we'd have and 'easy' stroll to the cache, beating those unfit people in the car.
Well....we did beat them! Unfortunately we also didn't find the cache first. I look on the near vertical climb and time spent wandering no-where near the cache as most productive .
Swapped sewing kit for table cloth clips.
