We had a little gap in the day between commitments in Hokitika, and had been going to do Fenced Out II, but as it's not there, and as it was a sunny day, we decided to go further. Lovely drive out here as always and stunning scenery here. The new path will look better once the vegetation around the edges has grown again, and now plenty of parking. Cache was totally soggy which we were prepared for, so dried it out, replaced log book etc etc, but container needs replacing as the lid is broken, in such a way that it is not sealing properly we suspect.
So cache is all good and dry now. Thanks for a trip to a beautiful spot again!

Sorry, didn´t found it. Look everywhere around.
The color of the water is beautiful. Very nice place. Is there gold in the river? I found a few glittering stones...

04-Feb-09
Only two muggles in the area, quite late in the day 5:40pm. Found where the clue says. Took photos left footprints. TFTC

03-Jan-09
Couldn't find it!! Way too many muggles around to do an extensive search, so was very frustrating. GPS reception also quite patchy. Great spot though Smile

18-Dec-08
I was about to give up when I decided to look in one more spot - and there it was, small in size, accessible from the path, but NOT in the middle of the path. What a beautiful location, thanks for bringing me here! TFTC

29-Aug-08
This is a place I often come to, and encourage others to visit as well. It was under threat from a comercial tree top walk venture a while ago, but that seems to have faded away.
The cache is very wet, we dried it as best we could but the book won't last much longer.
Cheers,
S.t.

29-Aug-08
This place is too good to not have a cache, but the logbook is soaked.

03-Aug-08
Was staying in Hokitika last night. It was spur of moment trip to gorge.Did not have co-ords to cache so had a guess where cache was and got on first look.Nice area will have to come back and do some tramping sometime

25-Jul-08
Sopping wet! 100ml of water in the bottom of the cache. Dried out as best i could. Attempted to make slightly more waterproof.

Very cold here today. Snowing on the other side of the alps. You could see it and feel it;being this close.
Ripper location! TFTC

14-Feb-08
Gorgeous gorge. Even at late evening and with rainy clouds above there are still a lot of people (and of course a lot of sandflies). Thanks

We were pretty sure that we were standing right on it, however the new guardrail prevented us being able to access it, maybe? Otherwise.... well, we just didn't find it.

We spend quite a bit of time between groups of muggles looking all around, just in case it wasn't really quite where the hint suggested.

Gorgeous amazing blue today, but too many muggles around to appreciate properly. New gravel track, guardrail AND a child-proof GATE across just before the roughest bit of the track - not sure I like the new 'improvements' at all!!

21-Jul-07
A lovely Day and A lovely Spot thank you for taking us here Moneydork. Took small animal left pen.

Cheers Nifty & Friends

21-Jul-07
This is indeed one of "The Coasts" treasures, location wise. A river with sheer rock sides and bluer than blue water. Truly spectacular. We were in the company of BMWnifty,Bob358 and our ladies of course.
TNLN
Thanks Moneydork

What a beautiful spot! I just couldn't resist so I had to jump in off of the rock further down the trail. Warning the water is very cold! TFTC!

30-Dec-06
Saw a photo of this gorge on my buddy Hamstermans calendar.
So it was a must visit location ....truely spectacular and the sand flies are the size of dogs.

03-Dec-06
The cache was indeed missing.
I have replaced it.

03-Oct-06
I followed the directions and the hints, I fear it has been muggled! The place I looked in looked as though something should have been there. Moneydork, check it out and let me know if it is there please! I will feel a little shamed if it is, but nevermind!

17-Sep-06
What a stunning way to finish a 2 day caching weekend in the area with friends Brendon and Steph.
Awesome gorge and stunning looking water colour.
Left some coloured mini tennis balls and took a mini notebook
Thanks for bringing us up here.

Found during a caching sojourn to the Coast. Took art sand, left flower purse keyring
Thanks for the cache Moneydork

07-Aug-05
Again a beautiful spot. Loved the swing bridge, even if the dog did not. Mrs Moneydork introduced a couple to geocaching - fancy the couple being on the site of a cache with a GPS and know nothing of the hobby! No swaps

18-Jul-05
It's a nice place here, still the same as 30 years ago when I was last here. We had to use the clue. Left finger puppet, took seahorse thermometer.

13-Feb-05
Neat spot. I love swing bridges. River is a murky emerald colour. People fishing, dog swimming, sandflies biting! + dolphin key ring. – candle. Thanks Moneydork. Cheers.

15-Jan-05
A truly stunning spot! What is it about NZ and the amazing gorges?

T: SEA Games golden buffalo TB. L: Mini-book.

02-Jan-05
Lots of sandflies. Initially took the 'not leaving' track bit a bit too literally and tried to lift up the boards at the end! Maybe it should say 'by no more than 1/2 a metre'.
Lots of sandflies. Met some people from down the road from home, who warned us about them. The cache is nice and try.
TNLN, thanks.

26-Nov-04
Have replaced this cache with a new one - new contents and new box. Hopefully this one will do better than the last one. Yuck - the cache had deteriorated a lot since my last visit.

Will ressurrect what I can of the old contents and redistribute into caches. If I can dry out the old log, I'll place it in the new cache for finders to read (there is a new log in the new cache).

Also added Golden Buffalo TB to the new cache.

20-Nov-04
The cache was full of water and everything in it is soaking wet, even though they are in plastic bags. The log is ruined. The cache container isn't waterproof and is filling up when it rains. Unless the owner fixes the problem the cache should be removed and archived.

Update: Received email saying the cache has been fixed so switching this from 'needs archiving' to 'found it'. Thanks for the quick fix Moneydork!

While chatting to MoneyDork at the end of "An unfortunate series of events" we mentioned Papa Bear's acrophobia in relation to a recent swing-bridge leading to an MD cache. With an innocent face a few minutes later, he suggested that we might like to try this cache while we were in the area.
Bastard.
We got out our torches, headlamps, etc. and set off towards the Gorge, crossed the _swing bridge high above the raging torrent_ and started looking for the cache in the middle of the track. Only a couple of options, really, and a night approach actually helped with the finding, with the unmistakeable gleam of plastic giving it away.
Yep, contents are wet (no wonder, with this cheapie container, that's lost one of its two clips, and is in an unsealable plastic bag!) but we managed to make a mark on the logbook before heading back up to the car and back to Hokitika.
(Actually, the swing bridge is a wide and stable one and not really a problem. He's still a bastard, though.)

Tokala, Mrs Tokala, Tokala's mum and Alexander went to the Gorge for a look (its been years since I was last there).

Nice quick find, there was a few muggles about but they all were looking the other way when we found the cache.

The cache is quite wet so it might need a new container, sorry we didn't have one with us.

- night light (in case we get scared going home)
+ milk carton clips

08-Aug-04
Tried to check on the cache, but there were too many muggles standing on it.

11-Jul-04
Lovely Spot havn't been here for a while took a few pictures there. Janice found it with ease she'd gone ahead while we took pictures the first one she'd found she was happy Smile.

- whistle set
+ touch light & pencil because pen was dead
Still damp needs new container

Thanks for a great cache

We were here last year but didn't know about the cache then. Introduced several photographic society friends to the concept of geocaching - they were all intrigued. The contents are very damp - a new container might be a good idea. Took the orange car and left a butterfly from one of the east coast caches.

12-Feb-04
We were lucky - went to the gorge without knowing that there was a cache and back at the car turned on the GPS... It pointed to a cache only about 100m away, so it was ours. Great place anyway, right to escape from the masses at the coast.

05-Jan-04
An easy find once I was in the region that the GPSr pointed towards. A few friends travelling around the South Island are intrigued by Geocaching and were impressed with the speed I found this one (not typical of my finds). They also helped to divert the attention of a Geomuggle standing on the bridge whilst I hid back in its hidy place. Great location. TNLN.

02-Jan-04
Another nice spot, I have been here many times as a kid, had to use the clue as the Navman + Plam Zire71 had us 30m past the swing bridge, the cache is a bit damp..

Becky was impressed with the Gorge

- Toy Mic
+ Snap Ring & Survival Whistle

Many Thanks Bitsprayer & Becky

Sixth cache for the day.
Contents of the cache are still very damp but the cache itself is safe. No exchange made.
Kiwi Nomad and Kiwi Crossing came for the ride.
Thanks Moneydork

08-Nov-03
Checked on the cache and found that water has managed to get into the plastic snap lock bag that I have put it in.
Cache seemed OK though.

13-Oct-03
Dried out cache and put it in a plastic bag.
Left a small towel in it to absorb any more water that gets into it.

12-Oct-03
Found this one straight away. Lots of people around so had to wait a while till the coast was clear. The cache was also a little wet so dryed it out as much as I could but had nothing to cover it with to keep the rain out.
+ Lobster keyring(from glow worms)
- Fluffy toy(needs a night by the fire)
Cheers
