Archiving this one.

18-Dec-14
Tried to find it for a good while until checked the logs and saw it hasnt been found in more than two years.

18-Dec-14
Should be checked by CO or archived.

24-Nov-14
Didn't find anything there, but we went panning for gold anyway with someone else's tool. Found our fortune indeed!!!

19-Jan-14
This one needs checking. Watercourse has changed since placement.

04-Jan-14
Had a really good hunt for this, but things have probably changed a little since placement. We note it has almost been two years since last found. Could still be here, but likely by now well hidden until foliage if it is. Sounds like back at time of placement it would have been a cool cache to complete (sounds like "tool" is long gone).

04-Apr-13
Unfortunately I couldn't find a cache let alone a fortune. I did enjoy my visit though.

22-Apr-12
couldnt find it i live so close please can i have some help to find this cache

10-Apr-12
this was one we wanted to do. had fun....and as for finding the container, was pure luck. well hidden. Whew.Log had suffered from huge over night rain, sodden...but strangly, no water in the container. To dull and misty to dry it today. thanks for this.

07-Apr-12
Did not find the object, so no luck for us.

26-Jul-11
We were so looking forward to doing this cache as part of Stretch0's 50th birthday trip and headed up the prescibed track - made our way to GZ ready to give this activity a go - then we found cache out in the open and absolutely no sign of the piece of equipment !!! Sad the cache was intact so we signed log and replaced cache were we thought it would be safe - will email owner with a description of where that was - great location great concept - maybe next time foir our fortune Smile thanks for the cache Smile

26-Jul-11
This cache had been one of my personal targets ever since i saw it online so today (my 50th birthday) I was about to achieve this aim. Parked and identified he crossing place and set about searching for cache. Seamed very strange for it to be left in open and the said device nowhere to be seen Sad . Signed log and put cache where we suspected it was supposed to be. Will now have to return again to complete my own personal mission. TFTC Smile

28-May-11
Found the cache and attempted to find our fortune. Will have to come back to this spot in summer... TFTC!
No signs of 'precious' in the stream either

28-May-11
This was an interesting cache, and yes it was used - t4tc Smile.

26-Apr-11
Thanks for opportunity to have a go at panning, spent a good half hour here TFTC

09-Apr-11
Didnt find anything approaching a fortune but did have a great time trying. The local mining company must be very happy with the current price of gold as high asit is

18-Mar-11
Last time we were here we ran out of time for this one. Spent 20 minutes in the spirit of this cache and this is the only time I've come up emtpy! Previous efforts were up from Canvastown. Will bring the kids back next time we're near. Awesome cache. Top drawer. TFTC

14-Mar-11
Very cool concept for a cache. Took us a bit to find it but not as long as it took us looking for our fortune. Sadly we did not find our fortune so we'll have to return home to Pennsylvania, USA as scheduled. Thanks for a bit of fun.

03-Mar-11
it was a rather wet day for this cache but we did find the thing we needed but did not use it. We had to search a long time before we found it.
Everything here was wet and slippery
TFTC , great idea for a cache

15-Feb-11
Didn't use the tool, but I really like the idea of it - super!

04-Feb-11
Struggled until we read the description again and then got one the correct side of the creek for a quick find. No luck with the gold. TFTC

22-Jan-11
Didnt find our fortune, but had fun trying, some muggles come and joined us but the had to use a ice cream container. TFTC we really enjoyed this one.

22-Jan-11
Had fun trying to find my fortune but after an hour things werent looking good. The little bit I got from the info centre will have to do. Many thanks that was good fun, lots of BIG dragon flies about. TFTC

15-Jan-11
6075 We were keen to find our fortuneBig Grin, started panning and..... the only gold extracted today was from the mozzies, the liquid gold varietyTwisted! A really cooool idea for a cache, enjoyed it while it lasted, many thanks for the fun.

05-Jan-11
did not find o well next time

20-Dec-10
Left Maus1 to seek her fortune while I fed the sandflies.

20-Dec-10
Couldn't find it until i realized that the creek had shifted so the huge rock was actually on the other side of the creek . Then it was an easy find. I did find one flake of fortune! I've always wanted to to this but have never had the tools. TFTC!

16-Oct-10
Found with Ariestiger and Mum on the way to Fox Glacier. 2/15 for the day. Starting searching on wrong side of stream first and then read notes again. Put on gumboots to cross the stream though probably didnt need to. An easy find. TFTC Big Grin

28-Feb-10
What a fun idea for a cache. We didn't find our fortune but it made a memorable 400th for us.

19-Feb-10
That was the funniest mystery cache I ever did so far. I enjoyed it. TFTC MacBanger

[^] 2000 [^]

We found our fortune in a beautiful part of the West Coast. It was difficult to choose our milestone cache from the multitude of good locations on offer, but after some to-ing and fro-ing, we managed to make this #2000. The idea behind this cache is great. Thanks for bringing us to a lovely location.

Smile Greetings from Australia Smile

Fortune favours the brave and so I was awarded my 2000th find on this cache due to my bravery, silliness and stubbornnessSmile

I left a 'Stealth Ninja Penguin' pathtag in the cache. Maybe LochB might be fortunate to pick it up?

It's not quite "So long and thanks for all the fish" but I think this year I'll be taking a bit of a step back from caching (I'm not stopping enough to smell all the roses).

A lovely location. Calm and peaceful just away from all the hullabaloo of the modern world. A nice one for my 2000th.

Thanks guys, I love youse all (well most of you, a couple of you suck but you're in the minority so ha ha Razz).

Now to wander a little more around the South Island before I flutter home to Oztralia

TFTCBig Grin

07-Feb-10
Dropped off coin while visiting this with pinot noir.

07-Feb-10
Found after failing another time. Alas, we did not find our fortune, not even a spot of colour. I suspect my technique is not the best. Mrs pn did gather some nice rocks for the garden though. took coin. TFTC

25-Jan-10
Wow, without giving too much away, this was a lot of fun! What a great idea and especially on a hot and sunny day like today. That was absolutely brilliant.
Left a geocoin which should help others to be lucky enough to find their fortune....
Thanks a lot for this great cache,
Team Loopi (from Germany)

23-Jan-10
A great place to play, there really are specks of gold here, good fun for kids!

17-Jan-10
found with mongyspeed, ribsc, and houza.

17-Jan-10
Great cache idea, unfortunately we didnt have any time to do the activity. TFTC Cheers

17-Jan-10
this was a fun cache found with mates - houza, ribsc and bluejean, was a beautiful day

17-Jan-10
beautiful day found with mongyspeed, houza, and bluejean TFTC

20-Oct-09
Once we'd found the necessary items, we did the only thing we could, and profited to a very small degree! TFTC.

06-Jun-09
Checked on cache. Couldn't find container or special item, so replaced both.

11-May-09
Darn it. Couldn't find the item. the area may have changed lately, due to rain and erosion.

25-Apr-09
Really disappointed not to find this as we feel very in need of any kind of fortune after 2 months on our 'road trip with caravan'. Still it gave us reason to stop and walk through the area which we may have ignored with rain still sitting on the horizon.

24-Feb-09
A great idea for the cache. Lucky we had the gumboots with us. Lots of fun, but didn't find our fortune. Thanks

29-Jan-09
Found this one again - this time with family. Only a little few specks were found but it was good to have a pan here for use as we were passing through. Especially since the nearby pans cost $10 for a day.

Thanks for the pan once again.

07-Jan-09
Haha nice cache, found fairly quickly in the rain. TNLN, TFTC. Some impressive river damming going on here, think I know the culprit too lol.

06-Jan-09
Every year on our summer holidays we end up at this very spot doing that the cache is intended for. Great idea for a cache. Looks like some been doing some interesting damming works while they where here, shame about the rain.

Thanks.

01-Jan-09
What a great theme for a cache. Cool idea, and good fun. Found the cache easily and inspected the river, but reckon others have scoured the area! TFTC

21-Dec-08
We drove to this one in the end. When we got back in the cachemobile after visiting the cemetery the thermometer said it was 30 degrees outside and 26 in, which is far too hot for Annies!! We did not seek our fortune, just enjoyed the priceless cool water and bush scenery. Found the cache quickly and it was indeed rather soggy, so we returned to the van for some replacement contents and encountered muggles pulling up as we were about to return the cache container. Fortunately they did not stay long (perhaps we looked a bit suspicious!) and the cache was quickly rehidden. TFTC

11-Oct-08
Really great idea!
We try our best and found a little piece of gold...we think so Wink
We had a great time in the river! But to much sandflys around...

06-Oct-08
Awesome idea. We just had to find this one. Have been on walk around goldfields before but this added so much extra fun. All got wet and found no gold but had a brilliant time trying. Thanks Moneydork.
TFTC (by the way, log book very wet and difficult to write in but did our best)

30-Aug-08
Bought the Nissan Terrano in here with a trailer containing a spa bath I picked up up in Hoki, so, was a mission to turn around and a different sort of mission to complete the cache. Needs attention! Very wet and new log book containe needed. But.... This is the best cache about!

30-May-08
Nice easy find once I read the "12 paces" bit!!! Neat location - thanks.

23-Mar-08
I was lucky Smileto have Mr with me who is much better scrambling round in river beds. I would never have got to the cache without a tumble in the water and that would have been most unlucky. Took a bit of working out the direction from the river bank but finally we got it right after several tries. Lucky also noone around to see us handing the cache up and down the bank.

22-Mar-08
We walked past this cache, but decided not to find it because the weather was too yucky and we were too hungry. Twisted

07-Feb-08
What a great idea, I watched 3 guys doing this at Slab Creek campsite last night. However, my luck wasn't as good as theirs! TNLN Thanks.

05-Feb-08
great cache but the cache needs more protection from the elements!

29-Jan-08
As I was preparing to do the Ross walkway I said to the wife I would love to be able to have a gold pan in a creek here but not prepared to pay for it at the visitors centre.

Who knew we would find the exact thing I wanted further up the stream.

Thanks very much - what a wonderful idea - does it count as a find if you don't find any gold?

TFTC

Found on Nelson holiday road trip 2008
[Find #295]

18-Jan-08
What an AWESOME idea - Thank You.
I too could not find the log either Sad

10-Jan-08
What a nice cache, thank you for bringing me here

06-Jan-08
A quick find, then the Nut (aka RadioNut50) went off to find his fortune, but could not find the USB interface..... oh, the modern man!
Great idea for a cache, thanks for the fun.

17-Dec-07
Great cache.

Found with "The Moor we Hunt..."

TNLN TFTC

Sam was keen to take this one on, so we sent her across the river and she soon returned with the necessary implement. We had a great time splashing about, but will not be able to retire yet! Thanks for a very amusing cache! SL. TFTC.

Also logging in and out our England Geocoin.

28-Nov-07
Found the tool OK.
Beside it was the logbook that The Organist had left. No sign of a cache container.
No sucess with the tool, will have to stick with the lotto ticket option.

27-Sep-07
I spent some time trying to work out which direction I was meant to go to find this, however got it right after three attempts - it was simple really.

Found the "thing" I was looking for (colleting rainwater), however there was no logbook hidden underneath it, just LOTS of nasty bugs.

I have replaced the logbook in a BC snaplock bag and turned the "thing" upside down so that it drains, rather than collects water. If the owner could check sometime to make sure that I have not found a 2nd version and therefore placed a second logbook nearby to confuse things. (Same effect anyway)

05-Jan-07
3:01 pm - Device found exactly as described. This is a great idea for a cache, unfortunately we will be back at work on Monday. TNSL.TFTC.

05-Jan-07
Caching with Linleye. I found 5 flakes!

28-Dec-06
Some muggles trying their hand at panning down stream. We accomplished the mystery. By the way I lost a silver thumb ring on the opposite bank. If anyone finds it send Sam-N-B an email. TFTC SL

21-Dec-06
Thanks for the great experience. Mazze from Germany

16-Mar-06
Did not find. The palm pilot packed up on us and we didn't have a clue. Had a good hunt but no luck.

26-Feb-06
Didn't find this, nor did we find any gold! We rented a gold seeking device down at the visitor center in Ross (only thing open at 8am on a Sunday!) so we weren't at a total loss. No gold though. Next time. Hahahaha....

22-Jan-06
Great idea for a cache! Arrived to find the stream empty, so went hunting for the cache. Took a little while to find and the cache/log book was quite damp. Gave it to my travelling companions to go panning. Soon after redgecco turned up and were soon identified as fellow cachers! Had a good chat and saw an amazing dragonfly. No exchange. Cheers Gav [818]

22-Jan-06
Great Cache! We enjoyed the time and the new experience. We´ve met redigoana at the final location, they were obviously faster Big Grin
Greetings, Thomas & Birgit (Germany)

30-Dec-05

Cheers

03-Oct-05
No time to use the hidden item - have used one in the past with mixed success. Brilliant day. TNLN

07-Apr-05
By far my favorite cache in Nz. Nice walk and good clues, thanks! Bronson

13-Mar-05
Nice place for a picknick no time to pan 4 gold thx 4 the find Big Grin

13-Mar-05
Pretty little place, lots of history there.

13-Feb-05
“Now off to find my fortuneâ€, BaldEd said as he gathered up the cache object and his spade.
P.S. 1 hour later. “My back is killing me, and I have found nothing! Those miners must have suffered if they put up with doing that day in day out!†BaldEd now realises that he was not born to be a gold miner.

This was fun! We did find the tool and the notebook, but we did not leave much richer then we came. Had a great time though!

07-Jan-05
The whole family enjoed this one, many thanks Moneydork for coming up with the idea.

Tn/Ln

02-Jan-05
Found the sign, found the boulder, didn't find the object. I see that others have found it since our visit, so I'll chalk it up to being tired at the end of a long day.

01-Jan-05
What a fantastic idea! Great fun, but we didn't have a lot of time, as we are on a mission!
Thanks Moneydork for the cache and the lessons!

13-Nov-04
No fortune today, weather was raining as usual.

13-Nov-04
The weather is such that we'll leave the fortune for others.

25-Oct-04
Mama Bear thought this would be a good spot for lunch, but wasn't hungry when we got there, so Papa Bear went off hunting for food (the local pub/takeaway proved to be a fertile hunting-ground) while she made use of the mystery object and looked at stream-smoothed pebbles. Wished she'd brought tweezers and a little jar, but them's the breaks.

We took a few nicely-coloured rocks with us, but one of the big shiny yellow lumps was too heavy to bother with, so we left that near the cachesite.
Great idea for a cache!

Loved this one, unfortunatly its back to work on Tuesday. Thanks for a fun cache, Zcat.

13-Apr-04
[Had a pleasant hour making a very small fortune] in the stream, not a lot, but walked away with a couple of flakes to add to my collection. Makes you realise what the early panners went through to make a living - my back's still sore! [Popular spot though.]

Thanks for something different Smile

04-Jan-04
Did not take to long to find, very good cache, but did have time to make my fortune..Smile

Many thanks Bitsprayer & Fallen Angel

14-Nov-03
Third cache of the day.
Used the mystery object - limited success!! We needed to make our fortune to make up for the GPSr we lost yesterday!!
Kiwi Nomad and Kiwi Crossing came for the ride.
Thanks Moneydork
Iris & Rodney

09-Nov-03
Spent an hour enjoying the cache location with moderate success.

09-Aug-03
Third and final Moneydork cache for the day. Spent an hour and a half at this one. Sadly I think it's back to work on Monday Sad

Cheers,
