We spent a couple of hours in Blackall to look for some caches close to the centre of town before heading off to Barcaldine mid morning. This was a high priority cache - it is an early cache and the CO is someone we know well and respect. Thanks to DavidWazza for the link - it enabled us to get the required data. Then accurate final coordinates led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Many thanks TeamAstro for an enjoyable cache. It earns a favourite from us.
Grabbing a final few out this way before leaving town. Nice landscape, OK roads, and heaps of wildlife! Mostly goats - I think we saw in the hundreds. TFTC
Last day in Blackall visiting family today before we drive south. Had a quick drive around town to collect a handful of caches I had solved but hadn't bothered to go and sign yet. Used previous comments to get correct coords. Nice container at gz
It was much easier finding this cache with the right coords! I called here on our way up to QOGM. After discussion with some friends I worked out this set of coordinates and found it hidden very cleverly.
Ya .gotcha. signed log and replaced as found. Nice shiny cache, which helps us spot it.
I visited the famous "Comet Black" aka black stump, and collected the answers required for this oldie multi-cache. I really enjoyed this historic and rural spot, and I spent a few minutes reading the information on offer. My initial calculations didn't appear to work, and I then read a few previous logs that intermittently mentioned that the sign had changed. I eventually scrolled down enough to read [AtTheLakeHouse's find log dated 19/06/2023](https://coord.info/GL1A30CF0), which included the old sign:[https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/f84c1b2a-7e10-4db8-af3d-a18ecf286518.jpg](https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/f84c1b2a-7e10-4db8-af3d-a18ecf286518.jpg)It was then a short drive to my calculated GZ, and the cache didn't take long to find; The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks [TeamAstro](https://coord.info/PRG4ER) for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. It was nice to have found this oldie 08/2003 hidden cache, of which is one of Queensland's 100 oldest yet active geocaches.----------This 1.5 week trip, the purpose was the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster (QOGM) in Longreach, with its aim to encourage tourism and support in rural towns. Departing from Brisbane on Friday 15/09/2023, I travelled solo taking the northern route through Gayndah, Emerald and Jericho on my way to the event, and then returned through Blackall, Morven, St George, Goondiwindi, and Toowoomba arriving back on Monday 25/09/2023.My Longreach highlights included the two QOGM muster/rally days visiting Muttaburra and Isisford; the Qantas Founders Museum; Stockmans Hall of Fame; Silver Tails Rail Sunset Tour; and the general historical town vibe. Other highlights to/from Longreach included climbing Mt Scoria; Barcaldine's Tree of Knowledge and kayaking in the water park; Blackall woolshed scour; and the smaller intriguing and historical towns that I passed through.During my travel days when I was time-poor, I targeted geocaches that were older in age, high D-T, puzzles/challenges, and rare cache types. In addition, I added 7-8 visited LGAs to my statistics. The scenery was memorable with picturesque sunsets, and a diversity of flora and fauna. There were plenty of kangaroos and wallabies, emus, goannas/lizards, brolgas, hawks, and alas wild hogs, and goats.Today, with Longreach QOGM finishing up, it was time to commence my two-day drive home. After making an early departure from Longreach following the [QOGM 2023 CITO](https://coord.info/GCAAHTW) event, I passed through Barcaldine, Blackall, Tambo, Augathella, and then finished up in Morven where the [Morven Major Munch](https://coord.info/GCAE0HW) dinner event was held. I made sure to see the historical sights like the woolshed scour, murals and drilling setup in Blackall, before playing through the Wherigos and finding puzzles and challenge trail. I extended my day after sunset, and completed the Murweh Triangle (MT) geoart puzzles from Augathella to Morven. It was a fairly full day in warm conditions, but the geocaches placed from previous QOGMs were enjoyable, and it was good to add Blackalls LGA to my statistics.Adventure Labs completed: [The History of Tambo](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/0c74ee1c-bb7e-46cc-b899-55918a0094d4); and [Augathella Art](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/a28da373-e575-4d0c-b1f2-14a832b17597).
We came for QOGM 23, and sadly the show is over. Now we're making our way south and grabbing some more old QOGM caches as we go.
Cache checked and polished today. After 20 years there abouts its still in the same safe spot. Thanks to all the finders. Great to have a mini event here!! (Pic). Checked on a sojourn all around during QOGM 2023 adventure. A fun jaunt with lots of dust, mud and starry skies. JACS and I travelling home today! Big drive but still time to stop for a cache or two along the way! Thanks for the caches placed in these outback locations. Its been a fab week . Loved the folk and the countryside. We live in a very fortunate land.
Heading to Longreach for the last QOGM with Team Crackers, Geoturtle37 and Papi4506.We stopped along the way to pick up a few caches and signed the log as PDGC.(Papi Drovers Geoturtle Crackers) or The Drovers. Thanks to all the Co's for making this trip, more enjoyable. Signed and replaced as found.
Found It!Was a little surprised to come across an Astro cache out here but I guess they can be found almost anywhere. The clues for the new sign don't work, but using the photo of the old sign got me to the right place and I found the cache after a quick search!TFTC
After a good nights sleep in Augathella it was time to hit the road and make our way to Longreach for QOGM, however, plenty of stops were made along the way to towns such as Tambo, Blackall, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe and bunch of other random locations to grab a variety of caches. Great scenery and experiences. This trip will be one to remember, especially since weve never ventured this far out before. Thanks for bringing us here.#3832 - TFTC
A quick find as we read the info on the sign.

Loved the history and to finally see the black Stump. Nice location at GZ too however the last name on the painting gives you the wrong coords.
I found an image in another log that had the original sign and info needed.
Only 1 number of but enough to make this difficult.
Once corrected Ali good and nicely hidden cache was found including the skeleton.

Grub62 and I found this cache eventually. We ( Grub62) had to recalculate after reading a previous log as our initial coordinates weren't correct ee got there eventually. TFTC.
This had us tooing and frooing and not finding a suitable GZ. We read previous logs and found - lefisher on 23/2/20 said Y= Artists Surname PLUS 1 NOT 3. After this adjustment bunadoorian and I found the cache. TFTC and for bringing us here TeamAstro. Loved the Black Stump at the start of the first waypoint.
Something special or unusual goes here:Who would have thought it. A TeamAstro cache way out here!! Found. The Generic Bit:QOGM adventure - I was able to catch a ride with Muff1 who were heading to the QOGM event and team up for 3 weeks of caching adventures. 3 weeks in a swag - will my back hold out[?]Day 7: Today we moved northwards again from Augathella to Blackall. I had solved many puzzles in the weeks leading up to this trip and today was another day that I could at least get a bit of return for all the time spent in preparation. Over 30 caches found and although I had a DNF as few phone calls whilst we did a week's worth of clothes washing paid dividends and that was able to be corrected before moving on. **SAs Leap Year Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024. - BOING*****Thanks TeamAstro for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
We are now on our way to Longreach for the QOBM event next month. As we missed the big event here, it was now time to grab some of the caches around the area. Another big day today, doing some of the trails around the area. Today I was just around the local area cleaning up some hides.
Stopped off here and grabbed what was needed to have some likely co-ords, where we made an easy enough find, once at GZ.
Thanks TeamAstro for placing this cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy finding it.

Accompany with DeafVW, DeafCat and DeafPhantom. I am appreciative of them because they are young and have more energy and good equipment as I didn't bring Ladder with me.
Handy one of them can climb so I just stood and watched.
Thank you for organising the cache and hunt.
Sorry about copy and paste.

On our way to QOGM,spending a few nights in Jericho, we decided to make a run down to Blackall, to add another LGA and checK out the town. Thanks to all the COs for setting and maintaining so that we get to enjoy this area. This one caused us all sorts of grief, we certainly got to know the area after driving around on a wild goose (cache) chase. Finally found a photo of the old sign in a previous log and realised that the Y coords using the artist name was giving us the wrong coords, using the old sign we finally arrived at the correct GZ and signed the log phew! Tftc
Interesting multi. On the hunting trail with SeasonedBird while on a slow roundabout route to QOGM 2023 at Longreach. After 3 days on the on the JPT trail. Bit of a rest day today clearing out the local caches before tackling it again. A quick find at GZ. It’s a great day for caching.

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria
And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Departed Melbourne the other day and travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel. Leaving Charleville this morning and heading north again hoping to find somewhere for the night just past Barcaldine. I'll be heading out first thing in the morning through Augathella, Tambo and Blackall
Another quick decode and find at GZ.

This one annoyed me for ages as the solution made no sense at all ... until I finally realised I had the minutes wrong!
Easy find in the end. Thanks for the cache and for the information on the black stump. As someone literally born "out the back of Bourke", it was interesting to discover the origin of another of the old sayings.

Had been looking forward to doing this cache in the Comet Series on a recent roadtrip in the outback, and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't until we were actually at WP1 that I realised the iconic landmark this was about. We learnt a thing or two here and really enjoyed the find. It took a while to work out the coords though, due to the billboard being replaced. But after reading a few logs I googled it and found an image of the older version, then had the green light. I have attached photo of the old board for future finders ease. Thanks for a great cache, and a find of a golden oldie too, it definitely gets a FP from us.
Stayed overnight at Blackall along the creek, and saw this, so couldn't miss an opportunity to find and log one of TeamAstros caches. Cache in good condition, looks new. Remember the alteration to the coords as in previous logs

QOCM this year (my second) had a very slow start. With the first couple of days I was a little under the weather & mostly house bound; I was appreciative of the group to battle on without this key member .
The weather has been perfect & the cache hides great as usual… some more great than others. I don’t recall any DNF’s but then again, who wants to!
The gadget caches were fabulous, the challenge caches challenging and will remain so for a while yet as I try to qualify. Therefore, a bit of work to undertake.
Once finally in the field I signed as either Muggle 65 or MB&C2 on muster days. Thanks to the QOCM team for putting on another great event.

This was one of my target caches for Blackall on our trip south. We had read previous logs and understood that we needed to add one to the surname of the artist rather than three as in the description. Straightforward find once we were at GZ as it was laying on the ground. Thanks for bringing us here TeamAstro
It took us a few visits, mostly to GZ, to see if we could sort this one.
Given the poster has changed from the original, we used the artists name to derive the coordinates.
This presented us with some problems, as one of the answers was a double digit.
We read some previous logs, and changed the number that we needed to add to the artist’s surname, which seemed correct.
This took us to a likely GZ. After not finding the hide, we messaged the CO, and also a previous finder with our photo. It seems like we are in the right spot, but search as we might, no cache was forthcoming.
The CO was extremely helpful, and we were somewhat disappointed to find that, after many years, this one may will be missing.
We visited GZ twice again.
With permission from the CO, we have replaced this one.
Should someone find the original in a different location, we would certainly delete our log.
In the meantime, there is a new hide at GZ, and hope this one will last as long as the last one did.
Thanks TeamAstro for maintaining this series. Thanks also for your help!

Couldn't find this one. Spent a good while checking all we could, but after a couple of phone calls, we decided we were in the right place, but the cache wasn't.
As mentioned in an earlier log, you need to add just one to the artist's surname, not three.

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips. This time the plan is Canberra to Narromine to Cunnamulla to Blackall, a detour via Winton and then swinging back to Charters Towers before the main event in Townsville. Will see if the April rains and flooding detour us! Thanks to everyone who placed and maintained all these caches that enabled us to have such a wonderful holiday. Thanks for the cache.

Like all geocachers, I’m taking the scenic, slow route to Townsville. Along the way we detoured for, amongst many others, this geocache.
We just had to stop for this older cache.
Thanks for placing the cache TeamAstro, without hiders the game wouldn’t exist.

**This Cache:**
Knowing the CO of this cache I was very surprised to see one of their hides all the way up here! Wow! An oldie too, and WP1 a location I needed to visit for another cache, perfect!
It would be great if the description could be updated though, I had to read through past comments to see that there was a small error that needed to be taken into consideration when working out the coordinates! Once that was fixed though, I had a pleasant drive to GZ and after a short search the cache was located! Not quite a "stump" though, but it was black and the micro cache was inside it!
Thanks TeamAstro

**Today:**
Day 3 of my road trip heading towards Townsville in NQ!
After a pleasant camp in Wyandra, QLD, I was up nice and early once again!
The first goal of the day was the Wherigo cache in this small town, I was happy I was camping here as it was much too dark and I was too exhausted to attempt this cache the night before!
It was another fantastic day, picking up almost 30 caches before settling in a campsite just outside Barcaldine, QLD well after dark...!
Today was pretty exciting for me, to be deep in QOGM territory with wherigos, EC's and letterbox deluxe I was pretty spoilt for being in the outback. This meant an extremely long day though to fit them all in!

My husband and i are on our way back to Brisbane after a road trip to Uluru and last night we stayed at Longreach and now heading to Charleville and collecting some smileys on the way. We have been out this way once before but we could not find the cache but today we decided to take another look and found it after only a short hunt. Great to find this old cache. Thankyou for all the fun
Found while traveling on my 'Quest to the Cape' trip from Adelaide to the northern tip of Australia on Cape York Peninsula. The plan was to tour along the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, out to Noccundra and through Quilpie, Blackall, Barcaldine, Hughendon and Ravenshoe to Cairns, then out to Weipa and up to the top. Based myself at the Barcoo River Camping Area at Blackall for two nights, heading out each day to do a circuit of caches in the area. Very nice to find another cache in TeamAstro's solar system, as far flung as they are! And a very early cache as well. Thanks for the cache TeamAstro!
we detoured our outback travel just to make sure we got this one. we were so close last time but this time got it, used the logs to adjust accordingly and a very satisfying log. thanks astro
I have looked for quite a few things around black stumps before one number tricked me but I put all the combination to find this one. Tftc
Day 2 of 8 (Tambo to Longreach) of a Queenslander road trip with Kestal, clocking just over 4000km, to tick off boxes for different challenges. I have looked at this cache many times over the years but never thought I’d actually make it out here. Well, today it happened. A great point of interest and a well hidden cache. TFTC
Day 2 and the planned driving to Longreach was much shorter than Day 1 but the find total was higher as we travelled through Blackall and Barcaldine picking up some oldies and others of interest.
This was one of the many draw cards for our trip around Queensland. With the info we needed gathered and sorted we headed off to GZ. We started hunting but with no luck . We tried to do this one 3 years ago but the coords we worked out didn’t make sense. We got the same coords this time, but one reading back thru previous logs realised that we needed to ADD 1 to the artists surname to get the required number for “Y”. Once we did that a bit of a drive to GZ had us signing the log. This cache would have placed Mrs Ski’s dad- he was a surveyor and cut his teeth on using theodolites.
Was passing through town on the way back from Uluru to Brisbane, after stopping in town for a bit of Breakfast the information we needed was soon found.
After arriving safely at GZ the log book was in hand rather quickly

Geopartner had done the calculations prior to coming after learning others were struggling with their logs. Also with limited phone service (neither of us are Telstra who seems to be the only service who is able to come out here apparently) we could not work out much being here.
Day 6 of our little driving holiday
And a couple of nights in Blackall
Well what to say ...
Finally able to scratch that DNF from nearly **15 years ago**.
Last attempted 2/06/2006 when it was a traditional sitting all by itself in Blackall,
yep it was the only one. ... before it went missing.
Been through town a few times since, but didn't have the time, and the cache has moved around a bit since.
Collected the info last night, played with the numbers, that don't look right ...
read the logs to get the corrections I needed, to finally get a GZ that seemed feasible.
* using the logs to get a different value for 'y'
Today, first stop to check the calcs.
Yep, there it is, safe and sound ... and little happy dance to scratch the old DNF
signed and replaced,
thanks for the cache, and to all those that have helped maintain this cache / listing.

Sadly DNF, can't spend the time looking when on long travels. I think what threw us is y+2 that wasn't a single figure.
Scratched around in grass which didn't seem right and then gave up.
If CO can share the coords please through message, who knows we might get back another day.

Thanks for the cache. Previous logs helped me solve this one. This is an awesome location. I had heard the saying but never realised it was an actual thing!

Logging old caches originally found with alphag_25. Now have my own account and logging them separately so that I can claim the finds.
09/01/21 Today caching around Blackall and surrounds. Roadtrip Mackay to Emerald to Barcaldine to Aramac to Blackall to Jericho over the next 3 weeks. Lots of puzzle solving before and during trip. Searched area and found GZ . Replaced and signed log. TFTC SL Found on ground and placed back in its hidey hole.
Day eight of my outback Queensland trip and hopefully I will get Blackall completed and be in Barcaldine by the night. Wow there is so much to do in and around this town and some really fun caches. Again I will have no problems in continuing my challenges of a trad a day and a cache a day.
Meet up with Willis007 for an early start, as there is a good deal to get completed today. Plus it was nice to have company on the drive around today. The plan was to do the loose caches , the Evora road trail, wool scour trail, Ravensbourne road trail and anything else as we pass. with most of the hard work already done it was a matter of signing logs today.
All good with this cache and with the log signed and cache returned as found, it was onto the next one. Thank you for placing it here, I really enjoyed the drive around this area today.

Day 5 of my Outback road trip. After meeting up with CHAMAD to tackle the Evora Road Bison Trek, the rest of the day was spent collecting the remaining caches in town.
Working out the numbers, there was something a little off. After reading previous logs, I realised what needed to be changed.
With the finals in hand, we headed to gz to make the find. We quickly found the cache on the ground, after signing the log, it was popped back into a perfect hidey hole in the tree.
Thanks for the multi TeamAstra, I love collecting these oldies - a fav from me.

I am heading up to Barcaldine region for a week of family time and of course geocaching. Sorry for the generic post. Especially because I am going to find a lot. TFTC
Stopped here, as you do, to admire the black stump and local history Chatted to a few other travellers. Took a few pics for the Earthcache.
Grabbed the info and retreated to the car then realised I didn’t have the artist’s name. Back to the mural. Back to the car. The numbers don’t seem to work Back to the mural. Back to the car. Nope! Just doesn’t compute Read the previous log and there is an anomaly. Wait for it...
**Y minus 1**
Yup, got some workable numbers and off to GZ. (I hope) That looks good, and so does that. And be careful as sticky mud everywhere from heavy rain last night. It’s like glue Looked at the hint and the arrow finally settled and well, it was over there, neatly tucked away Happy this multi worked out in the end.
TFTC TeamAstro! I grew up beyond the black stump, so know this type of country well.

Down from Townsville with Karicka to boost my numbers and explore outback QLD during the school holidays.
Quick solve of the multi and a find to match.
Thanks TeamAstro for placing this for us to enjoy.

Outback roadtrip Day 3 - Blackall and surrounds. Left the van park before dawn to hit the road early and do a big loop away from town. Caches were mostly in excellent condition, a few haven't had any visitors in some time.
Nice to find an older cache, must have been the only one for miles when it was placed.

Thanks for giving us a reason to visit, **TeamAstro**. Our log is trackable, mention this cache.

Went to find this one earlier today and had no luck. I came home and googled the information I needed and it turned out that the description should say the number of letters in the artist's surname + 1 (not +3). I then reworked the coordinates and walked straight up to the cache, mainly because it was lying on the ground. I put it back above where I found it. TFTC
In town for the QOGM, so nice to catch up with old friends and make new ones. This cache required some googling to do, but worked it out

In town for QOGM 2019.We have had a wonderful weekend with friends old and new. Our thanks to the organisers and CO's for all they have done to make the weekend so great.
I've had some technology issues over the weekend so instead of logging in order, I am logging today what I know we have found just to clear the backlog.
All caches were in good order, our TB's visited each cache. TFTC
Met some folks from our home town at posted cords, what a small world.

Just tidying up a few caches in town but mindful of the time as I need to be heading back towards Brisbane and home. Not all in one day but over the next couple. This is one I needed to find for the 15 year Challenge (yet to be published I note but at least I will be able to log when done).
Hmmm something wrong with this one, DNF

Attending the QOGM 2019 at Blackall. Caching in the company of Grumpy Bump.
We had problems with one of the numbers, so we took the PAF option who gave us the correct info. I don't know how that worked, but the outcome was a smiley! Cache container in good condition.

Got the information when I was through here last year but they didn’t work. Redid them this year but same result. Consulted and used a different Y number and all was easy from there on. TFTC and the frustration Tram Astro
After solving this one with help of a friend decided to do this one before doing puzzle at the cemetery
