Today we headed out to Ben Lomand to find a few caches and walk up a big hill. My pelvis is buggered now. We didnt do Jacobs Ladder ad husband had failed to top up the fuel and we were worried how much juice it would chew. Maybe one day we will be back.It was a fair bush bash to get to this cache but as it was required for a challenge we kept on going. Brilliant to see the original log book still inside. Picked up a traveler leech in the undergrowth - yuck .Brilliant that this golden oldie is alive and well, it will never be muggled TFTC
Big thanks to Guidor for placing this cache! Your effort brought an extra spark of excitement to our geocaching quest. This discovery was find number 1264 for us, marking another awesome moment in our adventures. Living and traveling full-time across Australia in our Toyota Coaster, we're always on the lookout for caches to uncover. To see more of our travels, feel free to follow our journey here https://linktr.ee/SalandAnth
Merging my accounts. Found this as Hoterini 17/5/13. Now tracking together with Ambers007 and merging the old finds.
25 June 2024 11:17.I can't believe that dalerious and I now have signed this cache. And to do it at the end of June is just remarkable; although I would have been happier to see white mud everywhere. We enjoyed an awesome walk to the cache in good weather. A truly remarkable place. I have wanted to visit Ben Lomond for so many years now, and even though we didn't have time to go to the top and over the other side, I was still happy being here.Cache found in good condition. Thank you Guidor for keeping this cache alive.
25 June 2024 11:15amOn day one of our honeymoon in Tasnania, catnap777 and I made our way up this hill via Launceston to see if we could visit Big Ben. We had no drama driving up far enough to find this ripper old cache (not that far off the side of the road), but being mid ski season, with no swow chains aboard, we has to turn our rig back before reaching Jacobs Ladder. Visiting Ben Lamond is still on our bucket list despite crossing off this old school cache as "found". TFT(Very Cool)C Guidor.
Decided to head up Ben Lomond today and grabbed a few caches on the way. Cache and contents are in good condition. Log book a bit damp but ok. Cache container is a little tired but still functioning. I cant believe the logbook is original. Sat in the sun and read a few logs. Absolutely freezing today. Thanks Guidor unfortunately I have now found all your caches I wish there were more all your hinds have been in amazing parts of the state. Now up I go, again, as requested.
Swampy and I decided to visit Stanley with the aim of adding Pine Nut (GC52EF) to my list of oldest caches found. After an excellent trip, visiting the Hydro Power Trail along the way, we continued heading North West caching as we went. We found many different type of hides, cache containers and conditions. We fixed what was needed and replaced as found. What they all had in common was getting 2 geeks outside for some exercise. This find, Big Ben, brings my total to 1732 and was found at 15:41 on 9/6/2024.Thanks Guidor for playing the game and giving us another reason to visit this area. Your cache was visited by my trackables: TB9QQD2, TB9KZ39 and TB7HH81
The plan today was for my muggle friend and I to get on top of Ben, but GeoCleo was with us and she isnt welcome here. So my muggle friend took her for a walk at the gate while I drove 500mtrs up to go looking for this cache. It didnt seem that far off the track until I started walking into the bush!! After looking here and there I was able to sign this logbook, find my way back out of the scrub and head down to pick my mates up.At the new cafe at the bottom of the hill my muggle friend and I spent a couple of hours eating, drinking, chatting and doing a bit of pareidolia with the passing clouds. An enjoyable, relaxing afternoon TFTC GuidorKeep smiling
Found with S_38 on our long weekend trip to collect some smileys for an Old School Challenge. Haha, well, a challenge this was too - fascinating how 85m from the van turned into a little adventure! Thanks for the cache!
We continued today our tour in Tasmania, AUS, and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Traditional-Cache.
The weather was - said in one word – simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood.
The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The logbook was okay, and allowed easy logging.
Thanks to Guidor for the generation of this nice cache Big Ben (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.
PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they appeared.
Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood.

Over the long weekend xxDouDouxx and I made a plan to knock off several challenge caches including caches from "Old School Challenge" GC44WV0 and "Tasmanian Mainland LGA Challenge" GC8CGMX, as well as a few caches for various statistic grids. I'm happy to say LGA is now complete and Old School is well on the way. A fantastic, busy, and adventure filled 3 days was had, covering 1500km from Huonville, to Ben Lomond, then Georgetown, across the top to Burnie, down through Waratah, Queenstown, and back to Huonville. Lots of great caches, new places to explore, fantastic views, and interesting locations...
A bit of a bush bash on warm, humid, snakey type day. None seen this morning but several later in the day. Great to tick off another old cache and see how they were hidden in the early years. Thanks

Found this cache on the way up to "Bens View" Earth Cache which was the aim for today.
It was a tricky walk to this cache, so made sure I put on the gaters just for a little more protection.

Today was Day 1 of a short trip up north with RLD4963. As the weather was looking good we decided to make our way to Ben Lomond this afternoon. We found this cache on the way back down the mountain - a nice little bush bash to find an old cache - great to see it still going. I found the coords were spot on. Thanks for placing the cache here. Grabbed a TB.

Just on another family adventure for the day and thought we would tackle all the catches on the way up the Mt.

Out with gridge98 for some caching on Ben Lomond freezing but beautiful TFTC. Good to go for an explore in the bush. Glad the snakes aren’t out yet!
This was my last cache for the mornings trip, a little bit of a bush bash to get in, after searching all around, the GPS wouldn’t settle so popped it down and searched around, after a bit of searching the cache was found nicely tucked away.
Out for the morning with nettieknows to collect the few new caches outs of Launceston and a few other ones at Ben Lomond. All together 8 finds for the morning.

Tried to get to this one but couldn't find an easy way to it through the very thick very prickly bush. Had to abandon the search.
Heading up the hill to Ben and managed to park just off the road for this one, bit of a bush bash to GZ but we got there in the end, surprising how much water was on the leaves as I was soaked by the time i got to the cache.
The cache was tucked away well and we were soon adding our names to the logbook, a great cache that makes you feel like your in the middle of nowhere which i suppose we are no one other than cachers would have a reason to come here.
I have a thing for old caches and having just googled a term for that and skipping all the sexual based ones the best term i can come up with is retrophiliac some of the other terms I didnt know were a thing LMAO
So another geocache found from 2003 thanks for that.
A great day out with goose and toolman(who is down from the big island)

Out and about with 1toolman and stainless steel rat working our way up and around Ben Lomond. This was a 'must do' from our list due to the age of the cache. SSR squeezed off the road and we took off toward GZ following a path that wasn't really a path, just a route that gave us some hope or an easy assault. We zigged and zagged before finding GZ and this old cache.
Some great old trees surrounded us here included the pictured one where a branch has grown back through the trunk.
Thanks Guidor

Hi there Guidor.
We found your cache **"Big Ben"** at 12:51:00 PM today. (This brings our total find count to 18529).
The original plan today was to log a random cache some distance from our camp site, and then find a few more caches using the "next closest" method. We then logged "Ben & Back" & thought why not - we will do that instead - - and we had a great day!
We ended up finding a variety of container types and sizes on our journey & found 15 caches (& DNF'd 0).
Thank you for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places to visit on our nomadic wander around Australia.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 8m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Parked the bike on the side of road and off I went for a scrub bash. Don't even take my motorbike helmet off. Found the cache no problem. Looked back to where the bike was and wasn't to far away. Looked like a easy trek back but wasn't. TFTC Dooghan
Had fun travelling up here with Astro who's visiting from SA. Yes, we really do have big mountains down here, or should I say bens given we could be mistaken for being in the Scottish Highlands.

Ben is one big boy. This is a most impressive view. Amazing.
I scrambled across the bush and wondered if I had things right. I had. I saw heaps of logs and even more lizards. No snakes - well I didn't see any. Maybe they were sleeping.
The cache was in the first place I looked which was not the last.
Thanks to Guidor and *clear skies* from TeamAstro. Cache the planet!

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.
We missed visiting Ben Lomond when in this area last year so it was on the list before we board the ferry back to the North Island.
Beautiful weather for enjoying the drive in the countryside today.
Having read some previous logs before arriving at this cache, we went armed with a replacement container. Removed all the water damaged items and left a 1lt sistema painted black in the same spot.

Well, we'd have to agree with the previous finder here & question why this cache needed to be placed quite so far into the thick scrub. I guess back in 2003 this game was a lot tougher. One thing's for certain - it's certainly muggle proof! [Blue]Find # 1962. Thanks for the cache Guidor TNLN.[/Blue]
Made the scrabble to cache all the while wondering why its placement is not closer to road. Easy find once there, signed log and found my way out. TFTC
B & M had to go too far into the scratchy scrub and had our friends ahead waiting with our luggage down at North Esk. So time was against us and M said "WHY?" so time to cycle down the long hill. Got to within 47 metres and progress was too slow and rough. All part of the fun and challenges on our AroundOz bicycle tour.
Out exploring the area today so a quick stop here for this cache. I left Catherine in the car for this one, but didn't take too long.

We had come to the area to do the earth cache but could not leave any close caches un found. We where a bit concerned by the last log as a DNF but as its a short distance headed over through the bush and boulders where we made a quick find with good co-ords although something like a taste of the cache so it will need some TLC soon. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

We found this one difficult - terrain, GPS wandering and a zillion rocks! Searched for half an hour then gave up.
Found with Justjessie on day 9 of our Tasmanian caching tour, very random cache, but a nice location.
Found with TassieGirl13 while down from Queensland on holidays.
Another cache another fantastic part of the Tasmanian wilderness.
This one’s certainly off the track a bit so I imagine only us lucky geo-cachers get to visit.

After a bowl of hot chips at the Creek Inn (very good chips, I recommend them) we stopped off to find this one on our way down the mountain. Seems like a pretty random place for a cache but if you look around you'll see some beautiful Tassie bush. TFTC
Going to spend the night on the nearby campground. Two caches nearby, so made a walk and found both.

Well this certainly took some searching. After bush bashing for a while I arrived at what I thought was GZ and then the Garmin decided it would spin out and keep me walking. Then it had me heading back from where I came from. Confusing!!! Decided to put it in my pocket and just search. Glad I did and soon had cache in hand. Interesting hide. TFTC
A quick find after a scramble through the bush....oh to be a wombat!!!! We had taken a replacement container after reading the most recent logs but when we got there found that we didn't have anything nearly as big. The contents are still nice and dry in their ziplock bags though and the container is still holding together. Many thanks Guidor for the hide. [^]
Found this one with contents in good condition but the container is starting to self destruct. TNLN. TFTC.
I was heading up to Ben Lomond for the Wild Dayz Venturer activities and stopped off to collect this cache. It was good practice for picking my way through the scrub leading up to the walks I was leading on the plateau. TFTC.
This one isn't likely to get muggled! A quick find.
Container is cracked and there was water inside although the log and other contents book were dry.
TNLN.
Thanks.

After finding a suitable, safe parking place, it was a short walk to GZ. A quick hunt around and the cache was in hand - coordinates acccurate within the error margin of the GPS. Yes, there is a hole in the base of the container but with a good lid and the contents securely wrapped in plastic and cliplock bags, the contents were in excellent condition. TFTC Guidor.
Found on the way down the mountain. A few rocks to look under. Container is broken but still dry.
We didn't find any snow this weekend, but we found a cache. Container does have holes in it but all contents were dry. TFTC
Grabbed this one on the way down from Legges Tor. If I had realised it was quite a way off the road I would have left the boots on. Lucky it was not too wet. Took nothing left GC. TFTC!
Just how do scout leaders celebrate the end of a high altitude camp at Ben Lomond? They go off track bushwalking looking for a cache in an ashforest looking closely for disturbed rocks or tree stumps or holes or something not quite right. This cache took a little while to find as my old model etrex struggleed to find a satellite fix through trees and clouds and so there was a grat many holes and hiding places to look through. What gave the cache away was a couple of stones where the moss was on the bottom.....The container was much bigger than I expected though a 1 litre container should do the trick if someone wants to do cache maintenance before I return. We took the travel bugs, signed log, admired the rocks and trees and then bushbashed 80m back to the road, happy tha we finished the weekend with a challenging geocache.
Find number 2 for today, the 8th day of our trip to Tasmania and the Mega Event. Found at 1215hrs, our 102th find for the trip so far. The trip up Jacobs Ladder was one of the intended highlights of our trip to Tassie. A cache along the way just made things better. Found after a bit of a wander and search, and losing a bit of bark off one hand, after a stumble and fall. As previously stated, container is holed, but contents remain dry and safe due to plastic bags, and the natural shelter. Onward and upward.

Found this today after an AWESOME day at the skifields, with Berzerky and Emma.
The container was spilt and broken, however, due to the good protection from cliplock bags, the contents were intact and dry! Quite an achievement for a cache that has been over a year since last find!!!
A new container is recommended, is a nice spot, amongst so many potential good hides here!

Found on the way back from the ski fields - packed with people on a week day - must be school holidays! Beautiful day, clear sky, sun shining, and lots of snow - fantastic for us West Australians!
Bit of a hike to get to GZ - lots of rocks and fallen trees to climb over on the way there - but much easier on the way back when using the direct route, instead of the meandering one...

Found at 9.15am on our 5 weeks Tasmanian Adventure.Staying in Launceton for a couple of days, and was advised to go up to the top of Ben Lomond Mountain and Jacobs Ladder. So to find that there was a cache there also was exciting. Headed out on a lovely sunny day.We came across the direction of the cache earlier than we had expected to. So parked our cache mobile on the side of the road and headed into the bush. The gps headed us in the right direction, over rocks stumps, around trees etc, looked up and an obvious rock stood out, Presto we've found it.Sat on rock to do the paper work, toook photoes and looked for our Aussie flag (that was on our truck) and headed back.
Took: Nothing Left: Bottle opener and Butterfly hair clip.
Cache was in good order,
Thanks Guidor for the cache.
P.S. Had a great day driving Jacobs Ladder.

gee we worked up a sweat walking this one! well we would have complained if it had actually been an easy walk after a longish drive Do mark the car if you are short people. We had a nasty turn when it was time to get back to the road and realised we couldn't see it Line of sight to the scree doesn't work in reverse to a dirt track! Still in trees 160 m after leaving the road earlier with 80m to GZ, we were getting a tad worried, backed up and did it again a few times on slightly different headings still 160 m out then child climbed a log and saw it - we were basically in a ditch with the road about 30m away at our head height!
Two unfortunate insects had managed to pupate inside cache. Logbook still slightly damp but everything else nice and dry. Sat it in the sun for a bit while taking happy snaps.

I was doing a spot of fishing nearby so just had to grab this Cache while in the area.
After catching a nice feed of trout, off I went in search of the prize.
Thought I didn’t have that far to travel but that usually only happens if you are a bird (crow). Got to GZ, found Cache and my GPS was telling me that I was within a metre so looks like it only suffered external damage from my little accident a couple of days ago.
This is a Cache that I’m quite sure will never have a problem with Geo-Muggles.
Nice hide in a quiet secluded spot…..

Either 'luck' or 'the satellites' were on our side with this cache. We found it rather quickly (only 1 metre out at GZ) on a beautiful hot sunny day.
The contents and the log book were slightly damp, even though they were contained separately in clip-lock plastic bags. We dried them out and then sealed "all" within another clip-lock plastic bag, so now all contents are doubly sealed!
TNLN and re-placed the container exactly as we found it.
Thanks for this one Guidor; we thoroughly enjoyed the scramble!

Found at 10.20am.
Found after a short search, We were expecting this one to be more difficult than it was.
A magnificent area, we travelled onto the top, up the ladder for more views.
We found the cache upside down with 1/2 inch of water inside it.
We dried it out as best we could. The mini torch was FULL of water but it still worked!!!!
No exchange made.
Thanks G

I can't believe this. The date on this one is right too!
=======
We have been very tardy in logging all of our Tasmanian caches. Not at home at the moment, but have a spare hour or two, so will get some of them done. The dates will be wrong and will be updated them from home. Will also add some photos.
=======
Tim and Peter had just climbed up to the top of Ben Lomond and when Pete turned on the GPS after getting back to the car he became rather frustrated: he though that he had just come down from where the cache was located. After sorting that out, finding the cache was rather easy, although we recommend not attempting to negotiate the scrub wearing Tevas. TNLN. Thanks Guidor.

With the excitment of a new cache in my area I raced out to have a look as soon as I could. Found the cache quite easily after falling around on the slippery rocks and logs - I'm glad no one was there with a video camera, it could have won a prize on Australia's Funniest Home Videos - and I'd had nothing to drink )
Nice spot, lots of birds doing their spring flights of fancy, light sprinkling of snow still on 'Big Ben', and of course slippery rocks! Cache was just showing itself, which was good, if I had to scout around much more I could have broken my neck the way I was going ) Left the cache as I found it to aid future cachers.
Took the Shampoo sample bottle and left a small sewing kit.
