DNF Despite being failry certain that we were in the right area and combing the ground under the flax bushes we were not successfull. Need a hint from Bald Ed. DS8300
Sad to report that this cache has met a fiery demise in the last week. It will be resurrected shortly with slightly altered GZ and amended instructions.
This is our 5th geocache search on our trip to the Sth Island holiday. Great cache direction format in terms of tracking down the GZ location, unfortunately could not find it. I reckon I got GZ correct, possible that the cache may have been moved. Would be great to know the location for the kids sake.
finally found on third attempt!!! have been searching the wrong side of the natural feature at gz, due to obvious parking arrangements not so obvious after all!!!
dropped off acouple of well travelled coins to contine their journey.

Just checked on cache. All okay, although I will have to drop off a new logbook after the next finder. Amended the hint slightly seeing that the garden has gone a bit rampant. Dropped off Aotearoa Bound TB.
another failed attempt to located after an hour scrambling in the gz!!
my wife saying in the background that this cache is causing martial problems
(I believe the exact words used during the hunt was "BaldEd is ruining our marrige!!")
she says I was flailing around with only my boots showing while the geo-kiddies were emergimg from the bushes with many unsavoury items!!!
Has this cache been muggled???!!??

Having done the similar cache nearby months ago was expecting this one to take much longer than it did. We got lucky stumbling on the first two locations. Also had a little help from the information centre at the 2nd location we stopped at. Once we had all four and realised GZ was close at hand the search was on in earnest. The cache was found within a few metres of my estimate, quickly written up so we could return to the warm car. TNLN
After doing the "Kaiapoi Lakes" Cache yesterday and having a heap of fun decided to have a go at this one today. Not knowing where to start we headed to a nearby WP for another cache, and what do you know...?! Anyway as we were leaving here we passed a local who asked if she could help us (I guess we looked lost). It turned out she worked at the Info center so was able to point us in the direction of the remaining WPs! Yay for the locals! [^] Managed to find all four points and were lead to the cache GZ in just under an hour, found after only 5min of searching. Thanks for another fun cache.

This must have been the 6th attempt at this cache. Having just found the new cache in Kaiapoi we decided to have yet another go at this one so in the middle of a thundersotrm pulled in yet again to the cache site and within 60 seconds had the cache. Retreated to the car singing "celebrate good times" to complete the log. TNLN.
Extremely well hidden cache, almost buried, and pretty much a fluke we found it.
We went and collected the waypoints and then using the 'nearest waypoints' feature of our yellow eTrex, we paced out from the closest WP to a likely location. According to the other co-ordinates we were roughly in the right area. But too many hiding places and as we hadn't been totally accurate taking our waypoint locations, we went back to the sites and re-logged the co-ords to try and get a more accurate GZ.
This seemed to do the trick, putting us right back where we had been searching (pretty thoroughly we thought) but corresponded to all the waypoints more convincingly. Another combing of the undergrowth and we were almost giving up when it was discovered, a hand resting on the ground felt the container underneath..
An enjoyable morning, thanks for the tour. =)

This was a little easier. This is my home town too.
Did alot of fishing from the swingbridge you took one of the photos from. And my old man was a foreman at the woollen mill. Still took a wee while to get the correcy flax. But got there.TNLN hunter1nz

Excellent cache to bring up 200th find for MORDOR&ANDRE. Fantastic day and all the distances were spot on at the cache site. I walked directly to it. Cheers Balded, hope you recover quickly.
Didn't find it, but only because I ran out of time - my triangulation wasn't the greatest but I'm pretty sure I was close to the cache. I loved this hunt, even though I was technically unsuccessful - the combination of interesting local features, some "skill" requirements and a lovely summer day all contibuted to a pleasant experience.
Cheers

Did this one straight after the Kaiapoi lakes cache and loved it too. We drove around trying to find a couple of the pics until we realised one of them was the visitor centre. Quick trip inside and we had the local map and some hints and we were away. We still floundered in the bushes for a bit.
Great work Bald ED, You've inspired me to do one like this in Nelson.

This was where a mathematician did all the algebra at home on how to solve for the final coords (an enjoyable exercise in itself), but decided to try for it with just a simple GPS. The locations of the four photos were easy to find - lots of giveaway clues in each photo that narrowed down the spot they were taken from to a metre or two. At the final location, my GPS gave exactly the distances defined from all four WPs. The cache was very easy to locate from there. So much for hi-tech maths - maybe there's a lesson there for me!! Thanks BaldEd. No swaps, cheers from Grandalf.
had a lot of fun doing this cache.. after finding all the way points there was the cache..

Stopped and asked for directions to the waypoints, but were sent the wrong direction.
Worked out where it was after finding our first two waypoints, but didn't trust our insticts when our initial searches failed. Came back to find it after locating the other two waypoints.
TNLNSL. Thanks Ed.

Did a maintenance check. There's been some rampant growth at the cache site but the cache is just fine.
Knowing kaipoi, we were able to go right to the area, without driving around town.

Very pleasant day for a wander about Kaiapoi. Having never been here before, it was yet another case of cache-led exploration. Maybe it was partly the weather, but it seems like a really laid-back, pleasant place. The only downside of that was that everything was shut on Sunday, and there was a very restricted lunch menu.
Has the verandah on the station been extended? It was difficult to get the perspective right.
Like many, we only did 3 points, like many, I cursed the cutty grass.
Ater checking several places that matched the clue, when we found the right one, it was obviously right, even before we found the box.
- Hair tie, + hacky sack.
Thanks Eddie!

Well, I found the river view pretty quickly. I was tempted to go and hunt for the cache straight away, but decided to go and hunt a couple more to be on the safe side. Found the church and rail station, and headed back and used the nearest waypoint function to pinpoint the cache. Proved a little difficult to pick the obvious place for the cache, so ended up using the hint. I was in the right ballpark and only a couple of steps away. Nice to have a drive round Kaiapoi as I've never spent much time there. No exchange. Thanks for the cache Ed. Cheers Gav [280]
Papa Bear had a chore to perform in Kaiapoi, and he now knew where the railway station had moved to! With that and the church marked, it was time to grab some takeaway and do some algebra. (The kid in the fish'n'chip shop who snuck a look at the 'gameboy' I was 'playing' gave me a disgusted look when he saw that I was only writing "N1^2 - N2^2 -2*N1*N2' etc.!)
This gave me two options, and one of them was open lawn, so it was obviously the other one!
This is where Mama Bear's skills were sorely missed, as I spent far too long beating about the bush before turning up the plastic fantastic. Took the TB, but no swaps. I'd picked up some paper rubbish to put in a bin, and was belatedly pleased that nobody saw me emerging from the undergrowth with a wad of crumpled paper in my hand!
Thanks for the tour of your hometown, Eddie!

Without GPS. My mum and Elizabeth Burtt. Did well, but too many bushes in the region to make it easy

Nice easy find especially with my wifes superior knowledge of Kaiapoi. She pretty much decided it was in that area without visiting the locations listed. Cache in good condition.
Took nothing and left nothing.

Found It.... Such a couple of simple words... to describe an afternoon chasing around Kaiapoi trying to find this cache. Ciotach has a new fishing rod so the tides being right and the waterlevel in the Waimak apparently having dropped enough to fish in we decided to christen it. So we loaded up the boat and headed off MacIntoshes Holewards. But crossing the old main road bridge and the water was like DIRTY so fishing was out. Fortunately we always carry our Geocahibng gear so what was the nearest cache we hadn't yet attempted.... ummm The Kaiapoi Historic Geometry Cache... Sooooo if you were in Kaiapoi and saw a couple of nutters tearing around the town towing a boat.. that was us... Local knowledge is a wonderful thing sometimes when caching and knowing that the Railway Station is no longer where it is supposed to be helps a lot. Anyway we found all the photo points and logged them into the GPS and then had the fun of trying to loacate the area they referred to. This invoolved some heated discussion. And after trying both sides of a river we finally tracked it down to a point.... We searched all the logical areas but had to admit defeat and decrypt the clue and then we spent more time searching every object nominated in the clue (there is lots of them) before deciding to retire for a cup of tea and a rethink.... BUT then I found it under the only object that we hadn't searched...So we had a cup of tea and then we went home..... Oh yeah, did I mention all the Cutty Grass??? And we left the Harpic Van Travel Bug that Varuna brought from Perth

After doing the Lakes, thought we should do this one as we were in the area. Found three of the locations - but damned if we could find the train station (it is not where the map we have says it is!). Tried using a program that I had knocked up to find the intersections of circles, but it did not work so we had to resort to the 'nearest' page in the GPS then driver round in circles! In the end we found the general area but took a bit of searching to find the cache (the clue really narrows it down!). In the end it took some blood spillage from Bernadette before the cache gods were appeased and allowed Bernadette to find the cache. + party popper - nil

We had a glorious time discovering atown often passed through! We enjoyed every aspect, finding the sites, working out the point the photos were taken and finally locating the cache at 2.00pm. (looked at one or two superfluous flax bushes - weren't thinking properly).

Had a fantastic time running around Kaiapoi looking at things I had never bothered to stop and look at before.
Did this one with Dalmore.
Really enjoyed this one but the map is now a mess of lines!
Thanks Balded

Knowing that we had a lot to do today we decided to get up early and hunt this cache before breakfast. It was just where we had plotted it after looking at the photos and jogging our memories. However we did vist each place and check our geometry before starting the hunt. We did the Domain Terrain cache recently when we were in Auckland and found that we enjoy this type of challenge so thanks BaldEd for setting this up near home. We had a pleasant early morning stroll around Kaiapoi - now back to the gardening!
