Geo-hubby and I were up before dawn to make our way to the summit, as we wanted to beat the heat. We powered on, stopping to hydrate frequently and made it to the top! Wow, what a view! I assumed by the description that the visitor log was the cache, now I'm uncertain if there is another smaller container, and I'll never personally find out. Sorry, but I'm not returning to search again!
We changed our minds so many times about whether we would tackle Burringurrah. In the end, it came down to " there's a cache up there" we set of a daybreak to avoid the heat and our commitment was definitely tested between the 1km and 3 km marks. The views were stunning the climb beautiful with all the wildflowers and the cache found thanks to the recent photos by team urco. We're feeling pretty chuffed with ourselves and the sore feet will recover. Tftc
Yeah, Found it.The Box was damaged and we put a new one in.TFTCLieb ' s Gruessli #12534
Set off just before 9 on a cool overcast day in June and thank goodness we did otherwise this would of been a very hot hike. Like many other we were unsure about what cache to sign and we couldn't find the elusive mint tin so we signed the visitors book and took a photo of one of us as proof.
Today we decided to head up Mt Augustus as the wind has died down a bit. We started just before seven as it was an overcast day it was not too hot. We were looking towards the Kennedy ranges where we are heading next and there are rain showers which are not good for the roads. Once we got coverage at the top we found out the roads we want to travel on are closed. Some great views from the top but it was still pretty windy. The sun decided to come out when we were half way down and it started to warm up.Thanks for the cache
Made it to the summit and filled out the visitor book. Like other comments we were clueless to where the cache would be. Spent time looking for a large box as per the cache description and discovered through old comments it is a mint tin. A fire has destroyed the table where it looks like the visitors box was once placed.
Bucket List Tick !!!
Made it to the summit of the world's largest rock and were rewarded with a geocache, seems we're one of the few to find the elusive mint tin hidden away nearby, which made the climb even more rewarding, along with the speccy views !!!
The weather was a glorious sunny 26 degrees today, which made the hike < 4 hours return
TFTC Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder, glad we met you on our WA journey, FP awarded !!!

This is a pretty easy cache to find however it requires serious commitment to get to the top. Took 6 hours and 10 minutes. Left just after sunrise would have been much better to leave before it. Super hot zero cover from the elements when you are up there. Take sufficient food and water.
Left nice and early this morning hitting the trail at 6.30ish. Was very windy, and had a bit of rain overnight, which made for a cool walk all the way up. Not sure what cache we were supposed to find, but found the mint tin and logged our name in there along with the visitors book. The sun was casting some amazing shadows, which made for some interesting photos. Traversed back down, and happy to say that’s another hike off my bucket list. Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment.
First 1.5 up summit - lovely! “this cat 4 is nothing”
Next 1.5 up summit - the actual what? “We’ve only just left the car”
Then came the 2.5km “mum walk” what a view! What a hike!
Just as the legs were starting to smile… BOOM mic drop! That last climb… WELL worth it! What a view!
Muggle central but a little sit and a little wait & the boyfromthebush and I had signed our little names in the book!
The trek down was quick quick quick but OH the knees!

Thank you so much for placing a cache here.

We took the gully trail up. First 1.5 km 45min, second 90 min, all the rest a bit more than one hour. Summit trail down took two hours. We signed in the log book on the top

Took the gully trail up and the summit trail down. Scenery along the way was great! Thanks for the cache. Signed log book in box at top!
A trip planned and LGAs considered and also looking for some old caches on the way. This tucked the boxes for all 3. The climb was taxing but the way down was harder. Not sure if we had the right box , so with instructions to themongrel not to get my red sweaty face in the pic , this is what he came up with. Tftc
Not sure if the summit log book is the cache or not but we’re claiming it:))
Wow! We climbed the Gully Trail up to the summit and took the Summit Trail down. A 5.5 hour journey in total but definitely worth the visit. Just below GZ, a wedgetail eagle was shooting the strong breeze too.

Today we made the hike up to the summit, we took the Gully Trail up and the Summit Trail down.
We don't know whether we found the cache or just the summit logg book of the rangers, therefore we made a photo at the summit.

The tip to the top of the Mount Augustus was one of the highlites of our journey. Downwards we did the Gully-Trail though the canyon. Very nice views on the way.
Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply walking onto Mt Augustus NP.
On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Tradi-Cache.
Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.
Thanks to 'Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'Burringurrah' and the smiley. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.
Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

We headed up north to see some of the wonderful sights our great State has, the amazing scenery, the interesting history, the local characters, it's wonderful to see this part of Australia through the eyes of the local Geocachers.
Up and out early in the morning before the heat set in, it was a beautiful walk, watching the colours come to life on the Rock as I walked in through the wonderful river gums, that was after watching the pre-dawn colours saturate the skies with the awesome rock as a magnificent feature.
This is the only way I was able to put my finger on the cache at the top of Mt Augustus, the photo says it all )
it was great to be able to put a few smileys up there )
My Augustus has been on our bucket list for a few years, now that has been ticked with a huge smile
Thanks Team Pathfinder for sharing this interesting spot.

We had a wonderful day to make the summit trail to Mount Augustus. Thanks fopr the Cache !
Found the visitors box and signed the book as Geocaching logbook.
Disappointing that you have to read older posts to realize that there is no Geocaching container. The visitor box does not hold anything indicating it is a geocache, so most people like us start searching.
Would be nice if owner clarifies this in the cache or in a hint

Lovely walk up Mt Augustus, with beautiful views. Cache was great to give the kids a little extra incentive to make it all the way up. Thanks.
A six day break and to get away from the stormy weather down south, we decided to come to MT Augustus unfortunately on the way we encountered a storm on the cobra dairy creek road, it made for a long and interesting drive on the gravel. After two days the weather was perfect for a climb and wonderful walk up what is termed the worlds biggest rock , fantastic views on the way up and on the summit duly signed the log enjoyed a snack and some water before descending, going up was the easy part coming down was very hard on the knees. Mr and Mrs cowpat thoroughly enjoyed the walk and that night watched the sunset on the rock whilst enjoying a wine around a fire at the tourist park. TFTC

The cache did not load on the phone so only had coordinates. Looked for a while and found a plastic bag with pencil, eclypse tin and A4 sheet with one log entry saying they've taken the TB. Signed the sheet and placed back. Now reading previous logs this starts to make sense. This may have started a parallel hide and log. Now that the TB is gone, it may be simpler to revert to the "big box". The cache owner could clarify with a hint. TFTC it was a wonderful day for the climb.

Assuming the sign in register is the cache - we found it!
In case it isnt, I hid a pen, paper and our newest TB nearby.

TFTC. Signed visitors book. we looked far and wide for something else to no avail. Will post photo when have service.
Like everyone else I presume the cache is the large metal box. Signed book inside. Fantastic trail, so much better than Uluru.
Although I did not technically find the cache I did climb the rock, signed the visitors book and have photographic evidence but cannot link with this log so I feel that I deserve to record this as found. TFTC.
Tftc. Such a great walk. It's a cloudy day which is great for not being too hot.The views are still awesome from the top.
Found on 26 April with Sue. Massive effort for us old unfit buggers. But we can say we've done it now. Thanks for the pain Sue.
Out visiting Mount Augustus with some friends from Queensland - we took an early morning stroll up the 12 kilometre trail to check upon our cache and too take in the scenery! Turned out to be a rather hot day with the temperature in the high 30's - glad there was a gentle breeze at the top.
all good with the cache.
all good with the cache.
Searched thoroughly and did not find, so signed logbook at the top and took a photo.
Foxy_Oxy and I went to the west coast of Australia and did a roadtrip to the North and South. We've seen a lot of lovely places and had a lot of fun during our holiday!
I love to hike in the alps, so it was clear that we will hike this mountain in Australia too. But I can say...it is very different
Although we started our trip very early in the morning, it get so hot on our way back...this made every step more difficult! But we made it!

After having been to the East Coast of Australia in 2008, Puepps and I decided to visit this beautiful continent again. We rented a 4WD Campervan and did a great roundtrip along the west coast, south and north of Perth. While caching is always good fun (well mostly ) in this context it is even more for us: a great reminder and memory-enabler for places we visited and things we have seen! In the end we did around 4800 kilometres in our camper and had a great time.
This cache was one of our finds and hence represents one of these memories.[^]
We arrived via the Outback road from Tom Price the day before and stayed at the close by campsite. At around 4.30 am we headed to the car park and climbed to the summit via the gorge route (at first with headlights, then the sun came up). When we reached the summit we enjoyed a short breakfast and the view but then it became very quickly very hot so we hurried back to our car where we arrived at around 9.30 am. What a hike!
Thanks for the cache,
Foxy_Oxy

having gotten home and read the logs, im going to say we found it, we signed the visitors book. will attempt to attach a picture to prove it! a very cold and windy day with rain threatening so we didnt search for long.
Got to the top, searched for a while and gave up. Then, checked the logs and seemed the consensus was the cache was the logbook box so signed that and logging as a find. Was a good walk up the gully on a perfect day. TFTC
Well we enjoyed the huge view. Did some searching all around the summit in case there was something else to find. Used the picnic table for lunch and checked the mountain book. Fabulous walk and loved the variety of vegetation along the way. Should have photographed the mountain book - maybe the next cacher could do that and post up the pictures of the last few pages.
Up 2 hours 25 down 2 hours 5. Been trying to get to the rock for 25 years, finally made it. Great piece of Australia. thanks Ian and Sue
Took the gorge way up much better views but a real challange, cache appears to be A big metal box bolted to the table.
took us 4 hours to go up and down the hard way.

What a walk 6.5 hrs geo kids in tow but we all made it.Getting a bit hot by the time we finished.Spent the afternoon at Mt Augustus Station under the trees relaxing great part of this wonderfull back yard that we have.
We all concluded that the cache is the big metal container as there was nothing else in the area that constituted a cache.

Took us less than 3 hours to get to the top, not bad for mouldy oldies. GPS said visitor's box and book, so signed that instead.
We did the climb up the Gulley walk (took 2 hours up) and when we were on top we decided there would likely be a cache here. scramble to the tope of the Cairn and 10 minutes later we have this cache. took a while to work it out but found it.
we had already signed the book before finding that there was a cache, so another hour and a half and we were back at the car, off to do the pound walk and then the other base walks

Wasn't expecting this to be the actual cache. Loved the walk to the summit (up the gully) and down the summit trail. What a fantastic spot. TFTC
Well I think we can claim this too after 3 hour walk although not 100% sure of find.
On a work trip to Cobra stn, after putting in extra hrs we had built up time to visit mt Augustus (awesome). I think I found it, the GPS wouldn't get a fix as we sat up their enjoying the view, smoko and calling our family's after a week of no phone contact with home. The GPS decided to get a fix as we started our trek back down the mt. I quickly ran back up and had a search but kept getting taken to the visitor box so I assume that it was the cache, although nothing was their to state it. I wrote in the log and headed back down to meet my work mates. We made it up the mt from the car park in 2 hrs flat, good going as the young fit lads pushed me up the hill ha ha. We all went through 4 bottles of water and a can of softy for the trip up and back, we did our trek at 0730 in winter and were in shade for most of the trek up. I suggest plenty of water for the trip and start as early as you can because it is remote and help will be awhile if things go wrong. Awesome views from the top and on our trip the wind was strong and a blessing. Got some great pics but will post when my PC is up and running as I am using the IPhone to log this. TFTC Pathfinders
gps kept taking us to the visitor book so signed it and submitted a photo. it was a great hike up. now to contemplate getting down
Yeah, we made it up to the top before the sun burned us to death T4TC! Logged on 20/03/2013
Found after a long ascent - it felt like it took forever.
In springtime with low temperatures early in the morning it's hard to imagine how people can die on this mountain as it is technically not really difficult. Even harder how you can even dream of starting a walk (may it only be 1 km) without water in Oz!

Couldn't find the cache itself, unless it was the visitor log book in the big metal box secured to the table. Spent 30 min searching the area in a 10m radius, but GZ kept on taking me back to the table. Here is a pic as proof of making it to the top(once I work out how to do it)
It took us four and a half hours, to walk up and three and a half hours to walk down that hill - without finding the cache...
I think, it`s not there any more - hope, a picture will be accepted.
The view from the top was fantastic - thanks for showing us.

This is one of those things that you can look back on and say 'I'm glad I did that'! We were a bit confused as to what was the actual cache, but reading the logs it sounds like the visitors book was right!? Fantastic views, just amazing!

The walk to this cache -- to the top of Mt Augustus -- is one of the government-sponsored "Top Trails" in WA. And it's well worth the walk! Quite a bit of uphill, a bit rough and rocky but nothing impossible. You need to be fit but no need to be a rock climber
Of course we were there on a fine day with temperature no more than 22 degrees C... Ideal for a walk up an enormous rock.
Thanks for the cache.

Did the climb with 2 muggle friends and got to the top in 2 hours 45. Unfortunately cupcake scratched her hand on a bush on the way up and, although superficial, it had to get bandaged to stop the bleeding. We were amazed to get full 3G reception at the top having been out of range for 200kms. We sent off pictures of ourselves at the top to family and friends. In response to cupcake's picture we got two responses straight away. From a daughter - "what happned to mum's hand??" From a son - "wow, you got reception way out there!!!" Isn't the difference between the sexes just great?
Attached is a picture of tango on top of the new cairn - great 360 degree views for over 100km from up there

Decided this was the place to be on my 50th birthday - back again nearly 12 months after our first visit, but with 2 of our 3 daughters this time. Didn't find anything other than the aluminium box with the log book inside so expect the cache has gone? Signed the book and found our last entry on a loose sheet.
The eagles came eventually that made the climb even more worth while.
UPDATE: Advice from the creators of this cache is that the book in the aliminium box is the correct find, so we made it this year and last!

After a hard climb with the family we reached the summit, sat down for a much needed rest then decided to look for this geocache. Coordinates zeroed in on the table and the silver metal box on the table, as this was the muggles visitors box we looked around within the near vicinity but was unable to locate a traditional geocache box of a large discription as mentioned in the Preview. We signed in on the muggles visitors box and took in the splendor of the mountain and surrounds before the equally difficult task of descent. Am very pround of the kids getting to the top and back even if Jacks legs were turning into jelly. Thanks for the hunt.
Just wondering if I can log a find from 15/8/1983 as that's when I climbed it before and signed the log book. Just trying to go back through my old photos and find my picture to scan from the summit. My friend and I did it as 15yr olds on our last visit, no trails to follow in those days it was a case of...you get to it that way!!! I wonder what was going through mum and dad's mind then!
Didn't get the opportunity to make it to the summit this time due to time and health constraints.
Wonder if they have the old log book in archives somewhere!

Great location and the views from the top were great. As for the cache itself, nowhere to be found. So we signed the visitors book, enjoyed the view and went back down
I decided to do this one while doing the three Murchison/Gascoyne Outback Pathways. Having completed the Miner's Pathway we were in Meekatharra, and planning to head off on the Kingsford Smith Mail Run, when I read the log book entries for Middle Branch R & R, including the latest entry which says "The cache container is getting brittle and broken." Middle Branch isn't exactly on the Kingsford Smith Mail Run (about 200 Km out of the way), but I decided I should rescue the cache. I bought a container and headed off, arriving at Middle Branch about 12.30 PM, only to find the container had already been replaced.
We continued on to Mt Augustus Resort, arriving about 5 PM, and booked in for two nights - the price has gone up to $13 per person per night, but we avoided the leaking tap because we had that site on our previous visit 4 years ago. We decided to lash out and buy dinner, porterhouse steak and T bone steak were excellent. After dinner I went for a shower, put my glasses in my pocket, and while dressing managed to break them in half. Luckily I had my previous pair, scrip only three years old, so I wasn't left blind, but the evening's dramas hadn't ended. I was at the car choosing a thick pair of socks for the walk up the hill next day when I was startled by a loud bang - the tailgate glass on the Challenger had exploded. No sign of anything hitting it, so the cause is a mystery, but luckily the window tinting held most of it together. I tarped it for the night, then with the aid of a complete roll of gaffer tape secured the shattered glass in the frame next morning.
At 10:20 AM I farewelled Enola at the Summit Trail car park and headed up. Enola chose to wait in the car park, monitoring my progress on the CB. The comms plan worked fine up to Second Junction, but that was the last I heard from her until I got back to the same spot. It took me three hours to get to GZ, not bad for a 58 year old with only one lung (the other was removed exactly 3 years 6 months and one day earlier)[^]. Despite previous cache log entries, and GZ being right at the table, I still spent 30 minutes looking for the cache without success[:o)]. After signing the muggles log book and taking a few photos I headed back down, taking two hours for what was the most painful part of the walk - my knees, calves and upper thighs are still complaining three days after the climb[xx(]. Thanks for bringing me back to Mt Augustus for my toughest challenge since my lung cancer diagnosis.

Congratulations Belken. The view is worth the climb isnt it? The way down is WAY harder than the way up we think!!
There's no finese about getting to the top. It's just a hard old slog. The first step up is a killer which continues for an hour and a half. Then there's a nice pleasant walk through the gap portion which is just to lure you into thinking nice thoughts. Then the thighs were yelling obscenities at that last little steep section to the summit. It took a total of two and a half hours to get to the summit.
Ground zero was right at the table on the summit which had a big silver box attached with a log book inside. The rock cairn has been restored and cemented together recently. We did a throrough search within a 30m radius around ground zero to see if there was any other cache about.
We're still going to log this as a find even though we couldn't find a specific geocache and have attached photos of the summit. The log book in the tin for visiitors has been replaced in January 2005.
We were excpecting a tin of fruit up top to go with the other tins of ricecream for lunch, but the box was empty. We ate two tins of ricecream and left one behind for the next visitor.
About 1hr 50min back down to the car. The hike down brought in some different muscles to complain. Had a well earned rest at the bottom.
Decided to visit Mt Augustus Tourist Resort having pictures of spas and swimming pools.... we must have been dillusional. We were allocated a patch of grass next to a leaking tap. Ken had to then replace the wheel bearings on the trailer. At $12 per person per night the value of the stay is questionable.
Thankyou Team Pathfinder for enticing us up that big lump of rock.

Rated: for Overall Experience
Congratulations to Bunyip on being the first to make the long climb to the top. We hope you enjoyed the experience!
We are hoping you didnt get caught by the recent rains - which would have made the drive rather interesting.
The cache!!!! Well its still there and was right under your nose all the time! Dont you hate those ones - now you will have to go back and look again

Got to the Mt a day after the rain had cleared - road had just reopened. Great climb to the top ( took 3 hrs )supurb views out over the plains.
Couldn't find the cache !
There has been some redevelopment ie tables & cairn in close proximity to the co-ords, so this may have exposed it. Signed the muggles visitors book & strolled back ( only 1 3/4 hrs to get down )
Note - don't drive on a closed road - if caught you are up for a fine of $400 per wheel !
