Have known of this cache forever but never been in the vicinity. Today I headed to the cemetery on a multi and premier-finding errand, admired the monument to love and quickly made the find. Thanks Maccamob for bringing me to this great spot.

Found with catnap777 on the eve of our wedding 23 June 2024 @3:17pm CoolWow! Just.....Wow!!! SurprisedWe were so impressed by this amazing monument that we had found all the answers to the information required to calculate GZ just by admiring and taking it all in before we even read the cache page. Big GrinThe lady I would build a monument like this for soon found the clean and dry cache container in it's right place. [:X]TFTC maccamob, and thanks for being our witnesses at our little ceremony the following morning. Big Grin

dalerious and I were in Melbourne on the eve of our marriage and we enjoyed putting together some caches of vintage just like us.This was one such cache. My goodness me. I love walking through Cemeteries and reading the inscriptions and epitaph on gravestones. Some of the memorials I find an extravagance, but each to their own. This memorial was extravagant but it was gorgeous to no end.A straight forward multicache led us to a cache found in good condition. Thank you maccamob for so much more than your awesome caches.

Staying in Kew tonight so after checking in to my accommodation I thought a stroll to Kew (Boroondara) Cemetery would be a good idea. I wanted to try and find the three graves for the Victorian Premiers Challenge Wherigo Cache. After wandering around aimlessly for a while I eventually located a map, used the Cemetery computer and quickly located all three graves. All the signs said the Cemetery closed at 5pm and it was now 5.15pm but I was keen to grab this multi. I checked out the wall and thought I could climb it if the gates were locked. I located the impressive memorial and then the required information and headed off in the direction of what I thought was GZ. I searched for about 10mins, it was getting dark and I was about to give up when I spotted the prize. Nice little multi, great Cemetery TFTC

I needed to find a multi cache today in order to fill in a missing calendar date for [RoamingHowie's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=24963346-56c5-4daf-8308-a01f60f5a5ba&wid=6a725450-9b6f-4892-abca-126a7026759c&ds=2) [WCW - 95% Multi Calendar Challenge (GC9Z59M)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9Z59M) and unlike most days where I need to open up [Cachly](https://www.cachly.com/) and scout around to find a possible target, today I knew exactly what cache I wanted to attempt to find.I have recently started to try and focus a bit more on filling in the missing months I need for my [Jasmer](https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2018/10/the-jasmer-challenge/) and with this cache being hid in September 2003, it was exactly what I needed to fill in one of those months. So after work I hopped in the geomobile and made my way to the posted coordinates. I never know how to feel about cemetery caches. On one hand I always feel like wandering around looking for clues while someone is mourning the loss of a loved one nearby to be a bit uncomfortable, but on the other hand I find that they can be amazing ways to highlight some beautiful works of art and if done properly, can be a tasteful way to honour someone who left this earth before us. So I was glad to see that this cache was the latter. Not only did it bring me to this beautifully constructed memorial, but the hide was simple and didn't take me to a spot where I felt I had to be disrespectful to those who have passed. I definitely think this one was one of the better cemetery caches I have ever found, but of course I expected nothing less coming from the magnificent [maccamob](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=a50e4bd2-6d69-4af7-a203-19897cf3814b&wid=83455a16-3a30-4b5d-9b89-3b33d720a9bf&ds=2) duo.I loved this simple multi and although it is always an amazing feeling to be able to find a cache, it truely is something special to find a cache that is 20+ years old. So of course I wish I could give this cache a favourite point, but I am unfortunately all out of favourite points. However, when I earn another one I will be sure to come back and give this cache a well deserved favourite point.A huge thanks goes to the [maccamob](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=a50e4bd2-6d69-4af7-a203-19897cf3814b&wid=83455a16-3a30-4b5d-9b89-3b33d720a9bf&ds=2) duo for all the fun today. TFTC.**Cache Maintenance Status**The required information was very legible and the needed information easily obtainable. The cache container was in good shape and all of the inner contents were nice and dry. The logbook was clean with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

In Victoria on a long weekend from Brisbane. Spent a lovely long weekend in Hepburn Springs for a signature family event. The wife wanted to go to the tennis so I hooked her up with family and off on a caching adventure I went. Today is all about Jasmer cache gaps and getting to the 8000 mark.Made my way to ground zero after safely parking the car.Spied the cache quickly and avoided the muggles to lay hands on the log ready for signing.Replaced it safely and off on the next adventure.A big thanks to the cache owner for placing and maintaining this cache.Cheers

When I parked and looked at this monument, I thought wow that's the Taj Mahal of the cemetery..ahh ha a fitting name for this cache." The memorial is currently being renovated ... There are so many cool elements. It's a shame i couldn't get a better look at the ceiling.... My calculations had me fixated on something else, and I could not find the cache .. a few PAF ...and off for a meander while working on a werigo. I later returned for another try for success cache located in its clever hide. travel bug obtained. Loved the pieces around the monument like the sundial and this gate (see picture)

Found with PapaGrouch. While in the area we decided to find this cache. Made our way to the impressive first waypoint, but as others have pointed out the writing is hidden under protective matting at the moment. PapaGrouch headed back to the car to grab my hiking stick so we could move the matting and read what was underneath, but while I was waiting I just looked around and spotted a likely hiding place. Checked it out and there was the cache. Signed log and dropped off a trackable that wishes to visit multis. TFTC

LeeLee on this side of town this morning to pick up 2 gorgeous chooks that we have adopted as they needed rehoming. An a chook palace they will have Took this opportunity to pick up this cache which has been on the to for list for a long time.

Wow! This is what I love about caching! We most likely would never been here, yet here we are visiting this amazing memorial. It truly is something special. Pleased to see it being restored.

Looking for the likely spots, I soon was on target but didn't search far enough. After searching other potential places a revisit claimed the prize. Thanks maccamob for placing and maintaining for all to enjoy. All good here. Left swap.

A FP added for the wonderful location for this golden oldie.

Mr CNQ flew in from Brisbane this morning and set about finding some older, challenge and virtual caches in Melbourne, before the rest of the team fly in from Townsville tonight. Able to resolve the final location this afternoon despite the maintenance at this location. Thanks for an interesting location maccamob.

26-Dec-22
Grub62 and I arrived at the 1st waypoint to find a fair amount of works being done. But Grub62 explained that previous cachers had been able to find the cache without calculating a definite X. So after reading the description I looked for possible hiding places that fitted the bill. Surprise surprise the cache was located and the log signed. The plastic bag was replaced as it had plenty of holes in it to let water in but not enough to let water out??? TFTC

PS I hope maccamob had a great Christmas and that the new year is really kind to them.

This morning Bunadoorian and I came looking for a cache that fills another degree for my 360 degrees from home. This was the one I choose to find. I loved the Springthorpe memorial - even if it is getting a spruce up. We have a Springthorpe estate in walking distance from home. Bunadoorian found the cache quickly even though we couldn't find the Inscription. TFTC and for bringing us here - maccamob.

The place isn’t currently in the best condition, and therefore I couldn’t spit the info, but the cache wasn’t hard to find. Thanks for bringing me here.

22-Nov-22
With just a couple more days left in Melbourne, so I had to make the most of my time. I was concentrating on quick multi’s and ones as I was passing today. But things always change when a FTF or a new lab comes out. I had to have the car back by 3pm, so that put a little dampener on the full day of caching.
Another older cache and another nice quick multi. I signed the log and moved onto the next one on my list. Thank you for placing this one here.

The memorial is having extensive renovations however a Google search provided the numbers and we soon had to cache in hand

20-Nov-22
With the building works, we googled the info and found our treasure. I absolutely love the work of this sculptor, he's one of my favourites, so glad they are doing renovations.

10-Nov-22
We are in Melbourne for a few days and decided we wanted to get a few target caches.

It is always great fun heading out and finding a nice old cache.

We had made an attempt to find this cache some months ago, but the area had been cordoned off more than it was today for the renovations. The work on the marble looks to be completed and is superb.

Like the previous finder, we couldn't find the needed details and made an educated guess.

Our guess must have been highly educated as we found the cache immediately.

The cache is in excellent condition

We enjoy visiting cemeteries as they are amazing repositories of history. This cemetery is one of the best in Melbourne, and this tribute to love is amazing.

Thank you, maccamob, for this wonderful Multicache.

A favorite point from us for this great cache.

Off for a day of geocaching with the destination of the Whittlesea puzzles and a few multi Way Points of some Multicaches I'm working on and what ever other caches caught my eye while passing thru. Pretty happy with 42 finds, with only 1 DNF.

Currently the Springthorpe memorial is being repaired. It did take away some of the beauty, but you can clearly see how wonderful it should be.

No plaques could be seen but I took a guess from the description and looked where I would hide and cache and found it.

Thanks for the cache Macca Mob

The inscriptions are all covered by foam tiles but if you google you'll find a picture of the inscription and derive your X...however logic will prevail if you don't find it on google! What an amazing memorial - he must have been so rich and so in love! Great they are doing conservation works to keep it well maintained. Thanks so much for the cache and bringing us to a cool cemetery

Staying locally during the Melbourne leg of our Australian trip. Headed out to find a cache for the day. I love cemetery caches. This one would be spectacular when all the roses are in bloom. There are still foam panels covering the floor of the mausoleum but a quick google search came up with a potential number, and the find was quick in the end. Thanks for the fun.

02-Jul-22
So lucky to find this today.
GZ is undergoing major renovations and clues are unavailable.
Logic pointed us in the right direction for the well hidden container.
An amazing GZ that will be even more so after the works.
Took many pictures. Thanks for another awesome cache.

The wife and I often go a wandering in old cemeteries (as well as unofficially maintaining one of the old cemeteries near home), but this one is so very different in style to what we are used to! Also much better kept than what we're accustomed to seeing!
The Springthorpe memorial is quite something! Great to see that extensive restoration works are in progress. Those restoration works partially obscured some of the required information, but we were able to see enough to figure out the final location.
TFTC, Maccamob

Decided to stop here while on my way home, a quick find here. Probably will come here again after the conservation works are completed. Thanks maccamob for the multi-cache.

I had an appointment in Kew and afterwards I dropped into the cemetery to complete another stage of the **Victorian Premiers** Wherigo... and while I was here, I decide to check out this Multi. As I approached GZ I thought *this could be a problem*... lots a scaffolding and signs all around the monument.

Boroondara Cemetery Trust has received a Heritage Victoria grant to undertake a restoration of the marble statues and the leadlight roof... and work was well underway. I spent some time chatting the conservator working on the statues... tricky and slow work that will eventually see the broken pieces re-attached. We then drifted on to Geocaching and he was fascinated as he has just bought a GPS.

Back the problem of the cache... all the inscriptions I could see were *Greek* so weren't much help. My guess is that it is on the floor somewhere... which, due to all the work going on, is covered in protective matting. Normally that would have been the end of the cache hunt but the conservator was so fascinated in the idea of the cache, he managed to find the inscription for me... and wanted to be shown the cache. He didn't seem bothered by where it was hidden so hopefully he keeps that information to himself.

Thanks **maccamob** for a very interest cache.

Out and about today with PrezDough grabbing a few caches and went on the hunt for this one.
Found the inscription pretty easily.
However I was a bit confused with the directions and looked in a very familiar place to the final location.
Soon checked my compass and I think it was playing up due to the metallic items around us.
Soon enough we had the cache in hand and the log signed.
The cache, container and log are in excellent condition.
I visited 5 TB.
TFTC here.

Found with CJDenno. We found the information we needed and then it took us a little to get our bearings because of the metal around us, but we soon found it and added our names to the log.

I needed a cache today to fill a gap, but sitting in my office all day, all I could see outside was rain. So I was going to target a quick png.
However just as I walked out the door, the sun appeared, so I pointed my geovehicle to the blue skies of Kew.
Goodness me! What a Mahal this is!!
A nice easy multi in a rather interesting location.
Thanks for bringing me here today by placing this cache, maccamob

Multi are my favourite. And I do enjoy a wander in a cemetery. And the word 'mahal' caught my attention in the title - Indonesian for expensive/rich. Like KnightShift I gathered the info easily enough - but couldn't figure out NE! For a person whose hobby is geocaching, I have the worst sense of direction. Put my hand in various unnecessary places before finally finding this well hidden cache.

New to the area and been past the cemetery a few times but never inside. What a beautifully designed area and a beautiful memorial site at the geocache location. Very moving work. Thanks to the creator.

04-Jul-21
First time visit to this cemetery, and after checking out some dead premiers, we headed over to this beautiful monument. It is stunning and such a lovely memorial for his wife.

The information was quickly collected, and the find would have been quick too, if we could have worked out what direction was North-East. Got it on our second try.

Thanks maccamob for another terrific multi. Love your cemetery caches.

Cheeky hiding spot. Added a marble, took nothing Smile

15-Jun-21
Needed to get some steps up so decided to go out and finish this trail from a previous trip. There were some pockets of sunshine throughout the afternoon which added to the walk.

I realised I was close by to a Victorian Premiers challenge site so dropped by and completed this quick multi while I was here.

Thanks maccamob for the cache.

Another great Maccamob cache to find! What an amazing monument it is still today and what it would of been like in its day!

Quickly figured out the coordinates and so had the cache in hand. Cache is in excellent condition and no issues here!

Such and interesting tomb to visit. We are not normally one for grave yard tours, but the extravagance of this one must have been incredible at the time. Sure even a pretty penny in today’s terms. TFTC

Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home. The virus can be transmitted by surface contact, so please don't take the chances. Geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue, so we need to get our priorities in order. Please stay at home!
We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches, until this crisis passes.
Thanks.

Day and I went out caching after his morning event and I was happy that we were looking for some non-traditionals.

Neither of us knew what to expect here. We walked up to the posted waypoint and there was no mistaking where we were heading. I have never seen stained glass used that way and as Day had stated, we couldn't believe it had stayed intact all these years.

Together, we calculated out the final coords and Day found the cache.

Thanks for the find.

08-Feb-20
All I can say is WOW!

I have no idea why I haven't done this cache before. I have a couple of WPs in this cemetery for one of my own wherigos, but I guess I've always been too busy to check. That and I am trying to find as many of Victoria's oldest 500 as possible.

Today I was showing the American geocacher who is in town around and this one kind of just popped up on our radar and I was happy to go and have a look.

The posted co-ordinates is nothing short of stunning. What an amazing piece of architecure, I can't get over how intact it mostly all is. How has that ceiling survived all the hail storms? The colours, the intricacies, I can't believe I haven't seen this before.

Anyway, the clues were gathered and shortly after we had the cache in hand and signing the log. Definite FAV point from me, TFTC maccamob, brilliant!

19-Jan-20
We headed out for a spot of caching before having to head into town for an event. This one has been on the to do list for years, but somehow I had never made it to the posted coordinates. It was time to change that! The memorial at the coordinates is rather spectacular. The roof was certainly interesting to see, especially in the morning sun. It didn't take long to find the cache here. Luckily for me my caching senses were working well today. Picked up the TB to move on. TFTC maccamob!

What a magnificent structure in this well kept cemetery. We could see it as we approached the given coordinates for quite sometime and we just knew this was going to be our destination, knowing full well M only brings us to special places Smile
We walked around, admired, took photos and then got down to business of finding the clues we needed to make our number X. We could hear a whipper snipper in the distance but on this lovely sunny day we were alone to make the search. I had a hunch where it would be and the male Triton proved me right by locating the well concealed cache and handing it over to me to sign as our 1000th multi find. We are so glad we saved this milestone for this multi as it's one we will remember for a long time over the blur of others.
Thanks maccamob for showing us here, its not only a very special cemetery but also a very special tribute to Annie Springthorpe, that Dr John must have really been in love.
A favourite point for another interesting location.

This was the final stop on a really long walk with team milljrh and abthings today. We started outside the cemetery after brunch across the road, walked for hours in an enormous loop, then arrived back here somewhat weary... Anyhow, after spotting the graves of three dead premiers for a Wherigo, we finished with this cache. Found the interesting dates easily enough, deciphered X, discerned which direction was north and located the cache! I picked up the TB in there for further adventures. TFTC!

As luck would have it I'm in Melbourne two days in a row as I had to deliver a dogbed I made for my Daughters two Beagles' so with the rest of the day I'm caching again! My plan is to find more Premiers for the Vic Premiers Wherigo Challenge here in Booroondara and St Kilda Cemeteries and to pick up any nearby caches in those areas.
What an Impressive Memorial I found myself at here and fortunately it didn't take too long to find the clues to work out my waypoint for the GZ. Finding the cache wasn't so simple and i spent quite some time searching at what i thought was the obvious GZ and next to it but I came up empty handed.
So i sat, and I pondered, and i read past logs, and re-read the cache page again, and I sat some more. Then I had a bit of an epiphany and searched another area that caught my eye and Bingo, found a very nicely hidden cache! Well done maccamob, very crafty indeed! Thats a very nice bonus cache for the day for me, cheers! CIGC TNLNSL

Had an idea, but came up negative so continued to hunt around. Sat and pondered and checked my bearings. I’d confused North and South. Oops!

The mirrored idea now came up trumps Smile

Spooky set of dates - very fatalistic. Beautiful roof, would never have seen it without the cache - thanks for bringing me (and the geodog) here.

Local knowledge is why I love geocaching!

It was a beautiful day for wandering around a cemetery today. I met some wonderful volunteers working on the gardens and around some graves. Their leader was intrigued and seemed impressed with what I was doing , especially the Victorian Premiers challenge Wherigo app. She thought it was a good way to attract visitors to the cemetery. There’s so much else to see here.
Unfortunately the sculpture inside has been damaged by vandals , would you believe on the anniversary we were looking for last year! Coincidence or not?

Such a sad story of a love lost much too early. A wonderful memorial. SL at 1.24pm Left: a special feathers lady PT for Mrs maccamob who is celebrating her birthday today. A side story to this cache is that Mr Harrowang’s great great grandmother, Hannah, was buried in this cemetery in 1883. We don’t think she has a memorial or headstone at all, but she did bear 12 children to continue her line down to the present generations. #6248 TFTC maccamob

On what turned out to be a 20km walk this was my last cache. Truly an amazing monument and an absolutely beautiful tribute. After not finding the cache in the best location I could think to look I sat on the bench and had an afternoon snack. Then upon further inspection... Let's just say I'm directionally challenged. A favourite. Thank you!

What a magnificent memorial. Loved the inscriptions & statues, but mostly the lead light ceiling (photo). An overcast day today, I can’t imagine the glow in sunlight . Was at the cemetery today finding a few more Victorian Premiers for a Wherigo challenge. Left small pencil Thanks maccamob for placing & maintaining this cache. Find #101

Not my first cemetery cache, but felt a little inappropriate at this one as I wasn’t really sure where I should be looking. Sat down to have a look around, rather than poking around too much and it turned out alright in the end. Thanks Smile

Today was big day out with AusFox; and Neville_devil. The plan was to get as many Multi's as possible for the day on either side of the cache of the year awards. I have always thought that I would never be able to achieve Multi month but we are giving it a red hot crack this month.
We had already completed 7 multi's either side of the COTY when we spotted this one on the map.
Wow this is one impressive monument. I wouldn't want to be paying for it in todays money.
Once at GZ we were easily able to get the information required and start the hunt. A couple of likely options were obvious and Neville_devil soon had the cache in hand.
Thank you maccamob for the multi

After attending The Cache of the Year Awards, we continued on to and grab multi caches in the area.
This is such a beautiful memorial that very few would get to see except in unfortunate situation and caching.
Log signed and replaced as found

We have been to this cemetery before but hadn't noticed this stunning shrine. The find took a little while but that may have been because we were all a little mesmerised at the sun shining through the roof. Absolutely beautiful. Would hate to think of what it cost though. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for the cache.

This is a beautiful shrine. We have been here before doing family history research but we have not noticed this place. The cost would be phenomenal and although there is some damage, I was surprised but thankful that there wasn't more. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for maintaining the cache for so long.

Found It!
An interesting structure. I guess the rich still have a lot of money even after they die. Found the required number and then the cache soon after!

I wouldn’t have come here if not for the cache. I’m glad I did - the memorial is magnificent. Thanks maccamob

A logistical challenge was set today that involved the stealth bike and possible caching. Full charged I set off and worked out a possible route. Impressive place. I am a little squirmish with these caches and don't like to disturb much. I couldn't find the dates so had a random idea. Nope. Then found the dates and it turned out I wss very close. Thanks to maccamob for placing this cache.

13:31, September 12, 2018, #917, out with cliff5009 doing a few in this area. No fingers needed for this one, a lovely day for a stroll around looking at the various dates and years of some of these grave sights. Thanks maccamob. TFTC.

A nice memorial with stunning glass roof, unfortunatly the statue is damaged a bit. Simple to find and a nice walk.

I came over this way to locate another cache, but it would not reveal itself, so while in area, I had to find some others, and this one has been on my TODO list way too long, I gathered the information, expecting to go away and sort them out at home, but as they told me where the GZ was, why not grab and stamp my sign, retrieving the TB as well, Thanks to maccamob for the hide, hope M does not want similar for her demise

Beautiful and powerful monument. Didn't feel appropriate to look for caches here. Had a brief eyeball and left. Cemetery caches are not for me, but glad for the visit and reflection.
