Time to let this one go. It has existed in 3 - 4 locations and has disappeared in each. I'll let someone else have a go here, it is such a great spot, and the old train line adds a bit of history to it.
The cache has definitely gone. Sorry to all those who went looking. This incarnation didn't last very long at all. Will either find a new location or, after about 3 separate locations and 4 replacements, finally archive it.
DNF @ 19:30.
I was in the area having a delicious dinner at a nearby restaurant for my niece's birthday, but once that was done (and I was feeling way over full), I diverted across the road to try my luck here while the kids were taken to get some "quick scottish" food.
Once at WP1, I had a little difficulty reading the plaque on the statue plinth because the surrounding garden region is fenced. While I could have easily stepped over the fence, there were lots of muggles around so did not. I eventually worked out what I figured the value should be and ventured across to my calculated GZ.
I had a look around but couldn't find a container. I checked the hint which indicated I was in the right area (and matched the features). I rechecked the area and expanded the radius a bit, but needed to get back to the family so pulled the plug.
Thanks anyway Muzza.

I think we found GZ okay as the hint matched our position, but the elusive cache was not able to be located. One spot in particular appeared appropriate, but it wasn't to be. Perhaps another time!
Find #768
I've been to Edinburgh Gardens several times over the last year but never found the time to go and look for this one. This was a day when the park was full of cricketers but as I was spending the whole day there myself I was able to time things right. When I arrived first thing I wandered past WP1 and collected the info. I did the simple calc and had another location to check. I waited until our cricket had finished later in the morning and went off to take a look. No problem with making the find and I had the newly replaced log in my hand to make my mark on. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for this fun multi Muzza in a great location.

Team Bogz found location, seems cache is no longer in site, shame. If time permits, i will endeavor to return and replace the cash in the its rightful home.
The container was submerged when I found it, although because of the neat design it was still moderately easy to spot and retrieve. The log is saturated though. I managed to replace it in the same spot in such a way that the container is not submerged, but it really needs to be modified slightly to avoid this problem - which I think is possible. After a reasonable warm/hot dry spell this obviously wouldn't be a problem, but hey, this is Melbourne!
I was going to be in a nearby area a little bit later in the day when I saw the owner maintenance email.
I made an implement that might help the water problem, but forgot to take a new log sheet with me. Once at the cache, I realised that my implement was not going to work. I tried to add some small pieces of wood to prevent the cache being dunked, but I'm not sure how successful I was.
It was only once I was back at the car that I realised that I hadn't replaced the log. Looks like I need to return unless someone would like to take a blank sheet of paper, suitable for a small bison tube.

Most definitely there but in need of See maintenance - see Needs Maintenance note. Just managed to sign the log with care. Take care replacing it to avoid unnecessary submersion (at the moment) Very neat cache. Good luck! TFTC
A lovely stroll around the park this morning,
It looks like they are getting ready for Australia day celebrations.
At 1wp there was a mattress on top of the monument, I thought it was very funny.
A quick stroll to the cache, yet a tricky grab,
thanks muzza [:x]

My GPS took me right to the spot after gathering the clue. Clever hide, and I wouldn't have found it without the hint. The cache was still safely in place after the massive clean up following the New Year's Eve parties, but the log is slightly damp. Signed the log and placed it back in it's location. TFTC.
Did a quick walk past to check the last DNF, and confirm it is in place. Just some extra spring growth is maybe adding to the camouflage! CptnKase and Dogs ;-]
We think we found the hiding place but couldn't find a cache… Might be worth double checking if it's missing or we were idiots…
What luck for us geocachers in the family that these Gardens were chosen as the meeting place for a 'Catch Up Day'! Having eaten and chatted for a while, we wandered off from the group to find this multi over the other side from the family gathering. We admired the impressive base for the now missing statue, collected the numbers, stood at the end of the line and made our way to GZ. There were muggles involved in all sorts of activities here today, despite the threat of rain, but none were a bother to us as we searched. Found the sneaky number and SL at 1.30pm. #1888 Thanks for the history muzza and we have to thank our muggle niece for bringing us to these lovely Gardens. Now back to the party for more socialising and fun.
Found this one with Rose, Gavin and a load of kids in tow. Loved it and the kids had great fun in the park. Great cache!
Was playing tennis pennants at the courts. Got there early worked it out and found cache pretty quickly. Signed log and off to tennis.
How silly I am! Forgot a pen and I am so annoyed! Just had some LOGPROOF: will come back and sign again
Found it! Great hiding spot! Had to pretend to play cricket. So many muggles around! TFTC
Thanks for the interesting little history lesson about this park. I wonder where the old wooden statue ended up? Great wee mystery. Nice easy multi but a sneaky little hide had me loitering for a while! Very clever.
The park was pretty dark when I arrived (although everything seems a little darker after the federal elections) and I was surprised to discover something on top of the plinth - although I honestly couldn't tell you what it was. A little googling later revealed that it was an installation as part of Plinth Projects (plinthprojects.com). I hope the program continues - it certainly adds a twist to this multi! I got the coordinates and found the cache pretty easily - I like the camo on this one. Thanks muzza for great cache!
I did a few caches up near Blyth St. and had a lot of time on my hands, so I grabbed lunch and headed down to the park. Solved the puzzle over a burger and grabbed the cache during yet another miraculously muggle-free window. Signed, sealed and put it back where it belongs before I scooted away again. Cheers Muzza!
I am still amazed how many parks there are in Melb. Thanx for showing me this one.
The puzzle was solved quickly and the container couldn't hide for long.

Didnt use GPS ( because were running out of time ) so we read hint and still failed and are going to try to do another time.
TDC met up on our regular Monday night cache run. We started in the eastern suburbs before heading west to collect a few caches, then made our way back east through the city and on to hit the bikes. It was pretty cool during the night and we had a few sprinkles of rain but luckily we didn't get caught in any downpours. As usual great company with plenty of laughs.
A nice straight forward multi that has been on my do grab list for a long while now. It's always good to find an older cache like this and a nice little hiding spot too. Thanks for the cache.

Another Monday night, and another run with members of The Demolition Crew. We had a few objectives to complete, which we did, taking us around a few places. Another fun night, with some great humor and great company as usual, where we cleared many in the Melbourne area as well.

An older multi to finaly get here. TR and RA had already done it, so it was an easy find on the night. Nice and quick really. I love the subject material of old railway lines. TFTC.

Nice one! Our first multi. Had some learning problems with our maths and entering coordinates but used all clues available to come up with the goods.
Out and about on a bike ride today and decided to divert my course a bit to tackle this multi.
The clue was collected quickly, then found another sign nearby with some more information about the statue to read. I laughed how the statue 'mysteriously disappeared'.
I tapped in the coordinates and made me way to the way point. I had to wait for some dogs to go elsewhere before commencing my hunt. I wondered what something was and decided to investigate, and my curiosity was rewarded by making the find. Great work on the hide.
Thanks for the smiley.

We found it really quickly. It was fun to have a clue at the statue. We had a nice day in the park. Thanks!
The walkers, cyclists, dogs and frisbee throwers were all oblivious to our detection and removal!

Ingenius!Found it after reading the description again, properly. My first ever cache
Went for a nice stroll with the kids and cousins and had a great time on the playground. we will come back later in the holidays to give the skate ramp a try too. While they layer, I solved the final cords and then went for a small detour on the way home. Liked your hide! Merry Christmas, happy caching and TFTC.

A nice, straight-forward multi - just perfect to be found this Sunday afternoon, after visiting friends in the area. This is a lovely park, well attended and spacious.

There are beautiful garden that need to be explored even without caches and this is one of them. Recently B1 had bought a geo kid here to play at the music festival here but today B2 was on hand.
This park in the past had one of the best steam train on display until some kid finally fell from it and the train was taken away.
Today though the park had a treasure that was in beautiful condition with a small addition added to the container that makes stealth magnificent. It is amazing how some people come up with their ideas and congratulations to muzza for this one. The bananas had a wonderful day with this one.

Found this one today. This was my multi for the day in my puzzles and multis challenge to myself. As I walked into the park, after moving geocar who didn't want to be hit by flying balls - I saw an information plaque and memorial to Captain Cook which was interesting and I wondered if this was part of the cache but alas not. This was a great find, I made it hard on myself and so consequently I went round in circles. The hide is amazing. Took a while to find a place to sign the log and to record the questions but I managed it though with a few strange looks from muggles. I didn't swap anything today and then returned cache to its hide which is worthy of a favourite point from me.
Thanks a lot for the cache muzza.

Caught in slow moving traffic and my wife texts me to say nobody's home so a bit of a detour to grab this cache is perfect. Muggle everywhere but I thought I'd at least grab the info.
Gz calculated, I wandered by for a look, saw the hide and with no one paying any attention, retrieved the cache and walked off to sign. I had to pick my time but after a few minutes was able to quickly replace.
Thanks muzza for the nice offset and cache. A favorite from me for a real classic. Only problem is I forgot to grab the puzzlemania clue so will have to stop in again.

A quick caching run between kinder drop-off and pickup...
Beautiful sunshine made the walk from St. Georges Rd a pleasant experience, and after visiting the empty base, I headed past the doggles being exercised to check out the calculated location, expecting that I'd be unable to make the grab. To my surprise, I was out of sight, so retrieving the marvellous contraption was a doddle.
Cheers, muzza.

I really enjoyed this quick multi. On a sunny winter's day the park was full of people and dogs. The co-ords were quickly worked out and the sneaky hide was found in the first place I looked. I enjoyed the hide and the method of retreival, well done muzza!
Back from a leisurely lunch with friends in the area, so a nice wander in a busy park. One of those amazing full rainbows came out. Plenty of dogs enjoying off leash play. About 200m from the cache we realised we had forgotten to pick up the puzzle clues, so back we went. tftc for caches today muzza
Read the description properly this time and found it quite easily. As we had trouble last time, we had read the hint, which unfortunately led us to look first in a place with a discarded syringe. I will go back later with something to get rid of that.
Hah what an awesome hide! Found easily on a nice quiet, sunny Thursday arvo.
Easy find but since I'm a fan of these containers, this one's also getting a favourite point. TFTC muzza.

I still had some time prior to the Leap Event later in the afternoon so stopped for this cache.
I wonder what the statue looked like before it 'disappeared'?..
Anyways, after some hunting about in a wrong hole, not wanting to stick my hand 'down there' and deciding that it had gone as the tree looked recently pruned, I checked another webby spot and the cache was located in good condition. Phew!
Thanks muzza for this cache and showing me these gardens.
PS: Dang-nabbit I forgot to look for the clues!

Second attempt here. The first was May 09 when I completely messed up because I couldn't read the description adequately on the phone I had then. No trouble this time, but just able to read the necessary info without going on the garden.
The area of the GZ matched the clue so I was pretty sure I had the right spot, but even with the clue it took a while to find the hidden cache.
Glad to finally get this one. Thanks muzza - Lovely gardens.

Another great Multi loved the spot.. and a fantastic park, was weird felt like some guy was shining a torch right on us as we were at the statue. (22.00)
A nice day for a stroll in a park I have never been before. There was a lot of construction activity near GZ which I thought might interupt my caching experience here, but not to be. I arrived at the posted co-ords and plugged the numbers into the iphone app and out jumped the final co-ords. After a pleasent stroll dodging the bike riders I was at GZ searching. It took about five minutes to find and I was soon signing the log. I should bring the kids back here. Such a lovely old world park. Thanks muzza. Another in this series knocked off.
Suscoe found this cache safely hidden this afternoon.
Lots of park using muggles around but not at GZ.
Looked at the wrong spot first then found the proper one.
Clever cache!!!!!!
Signed and returned.
Thanks to muzza for a nice bit of local history.

Cache #817 .
Found at 10:45 am this morning after being sidetracked for a few minutes at a similar hide a few meters away. There is a rain garden being constructed near the initial coordinates which looks like it will be worth a visit back to see at some stage. I photographed the extensive clues for Puzzlemania #1, placed a Munzee and departed for the next one in this group of caches.
Thanks Muzza

We weren't sure if we were up for another multi on our night run tonight, but this one looked simple, so we gave it a go. Nice walk through the park - with a few, but not too many muggles around. Quickly solved the puzzle and then a stroll to GZ where the delightfully designed cache was soon found. Brilliant job there. Really pleased us all to see that one.

Neat hide! Many muggles with dogs or cycling past but managed to get it pretty quickly.
A fun night caching adventure with Bonnie the West Highland White who had several face offs with possums, which for her is the most fun you can ever have. Tried the wrong GZ and looked in hole which had some broken glass in it so decided not to explore further. Jim had the cache in hand without even knowing it. Gathered clues then came home ready to watch the final time trial in the Tour de France.
Great night for a possum-obsessed westy. Enjoyed this foggy night in Fitzroy North but the wrong tree had a hole that was full of rubbish. Love to know whose student digs finished up with Queen Vic next to the pizza box and empty stubby tower.
Nice park - apparently busy in summer, but when we visited it was sparse apart from some dogs humping each other. Good hide.

Found at 11.15am by Mrs 80. We had started this one a while ago and came back last week to finish not realising the changes that had been made. When talking to someone else this came to light so went back today for a quick easy find with the help of the clue. TFTC
It was great to complete another piece of one of the Puzzlemania caches.
Parts of the park were buzzing with activity, and it is easy to see why this lovely park is popular. Thanks for the cache, I loved the way it was hidden.

26/05/2011 13:31 Found: #473 A lunchtime train side to Clifton Hill station and then a mice walk to see the missing queen. With daylight I could make out the date on th base fairly easily but used the board as suggested by Pathfinder24 to confirm. Took down the details and had GZ in my sights. I used the hint as I am always short on time and it is very well camoed! TFTC Muzza TNLN SL. P.S. I just realised I forgot to get the clues for Puzzlemania #1 so will have to visit here again.
While I had planned to leave work on time today, I still found myself arriving at the Edinburgh Gardens as the light was starting to fade. Still I read the description and was confident that this cache would be a reasonably simple, and thus quick, hunt with only one clue to have to find. So I left the torch behind and headed for the given coordinates. Upon reaching the not statue, I noticed that he garden bed that the base is in has been fenced off. This could make things tricky. I tried to read the plaque, but by now there was very little light and my eyes would probably struggle to read this in perfect day time. I did notice another information board and had a quick look at that. It gave a year that could be what I was looking for but I was not sure. I checked through the maths and tested were the GZ would be using the year off the smaller information board. 1.4 kms away. I guessed that this wasn't exactly correct. So I walked back and got my torch, hoping to be able to read the plaque on the base with some light. One annoying walk later, with the help of a very bright torch, I couldn't make out anything on the plaque. But now it was just dark enough to sneak over the fence and check the year up close. I quickly crept up to the plaque to find the same year that I had seen on the smaller info board. Sigh. I slunk back to the info board to check my calculations. They were all right. Checked the coordinates I had entered in to the GPS.. Ahhhh I had entered South coords one minute to high. Doh. Corrected and set off to the GZ. Walked slowly to avoid muggle complications, I was able to spot and grab the very clever cache easily. Took it up to the top of the nearby knoll where I found a convenient seat with a great city view to enjoy while signing the log and noting down the clues. Highly recommend checking this spot out while your grabbing this cache, especially if you're here at sunset. Note: to avoid many geocachers wondering into the gardens that are fenced off, the year on the smaller information board, just standing off to the side, is the same as the year on the plaque. However, I am not sure how long that info board will be there, as it has been moved to where is now as part of the works going on in the park. The cache is in good condition. Thanks for the cache Muzza.

This was a great day to be in the park.
Between WP1 and GZ I passed a trench being dug for some reason and spotted a lot of old bottles sticking out of the walls. Being a bit of a collector I was interested but didn't think that a jump over the high fence would be a good move. [B)]

Called by to check the status of this one. The cache was there, but was now in part of the children's playground and no longer a suitable spot. I have retrieved the cache and am disabling it until a new location can be found.
I really hate saying - oh its not there! - just because I can't find it, but in this instance that may be the case (I hope I can be corrected!!). There has been a lot of work done here lately, including the installation of the new playground which now appears to include GZ within its boundaries, and there is a lot of work still being done here. Groundsmen were abounding in the adjacent fields, and GZ looks as if it has recently had some amputations. Indeed GZ (if I read both my gpsr and the hint correctly) is cordened off - but I did step over the line to make the reach. The indicated spot is empty. Indeed, I can also no longer see any evidence of the old footbridge or any old rails. It appears they too have now been removed. It is all sad really because I always love to see some reminants of the past. However it looks as if it has all reached the end of the line.
The playground has just been finished and was very popular in the first week of the school holidays. The fact that there were so many in the area focussed on trying out the new equipment meant that we were able to enter, make the find, sign the log and leave without drawing attention to ourselves. TFTC
The cache is now fenced off, but a quick jump of the fence is all that's needed to log it. It was raining heavily and my hands were very wet and dirty, so I didn't unravel the log any more than I needed to.
Of course when I got back to the car I realised I didn't have the puzzlemania clues.
Of course when I got back to the car I realised I didn't have the puzzlemania clues.
Out for a good little trip, found a few others in the area and throught i should tackle a multi.
The final cache site will soon be fenced off i believe, as the playground is getting built. So it may be unaccessable for a little while. But hopefully not.
Thanks for this one muzza
