As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Can confirm still not accessible [xx(] but we'll be back. Smile

09-Oct-11
GZ would appear to be temporarily inaccessible due to flood damage to roads in the area.

08-Oct-11
We worked out the code and figured out what we think to be the final GZ. Plotting it on the map we think that you are not able to get there due to the road closures.

The clues didnt make sense...until I returned home and checked the computer...only to find the clues had not loaded into my GPS properly. It missed the negatvie sign so was trying to multiply some of the numbers!!! Duh....This is the second time I have tried this one.....has to wait until I am in the Prom again...probably another year!

19-Feb-11
Had to rack my brain on this one, worked it out and headed to the GZ. Got there and wasn't having much luck until we read the clue, found the cache about 6 metres away from where the GPS said it should be.

Big Grin found with Hearse068 finally after a couple of goes at trying to solve this puzzle we decided that just maybe we had the right coords. First time round we were swimming, we both thought that what we had worked out wasn't possible either but after looking into things a little more we decided to give it ago. Yippeeeeeeeeee we got it right should never have doubted ourselves. I will agree that in some light the colours are a little hard to see. This is one cache that pays to do a little study before you leave home as well. Thanks for the challenge. TFTC TNL1

Big Grin This one had Gonefishen07 and us a little stumped our first coords had us swimming and the next we did not believe so after a trip home and a bit more research on those colours, we finally zoomed in on our coords and thought that might be possible so off we went. YIPPEE WE FOUND IT. Some times it helps to read other logs and some time it dose not you start to doubt yourself. More great views of the Prom. SL TNL1 TFTH and challenge

Didn't get put off by the bullant bite this time, although could have got into another kind of slab later. Spent ages working out the possible GZ options re the colour clues from the monument. Logic prevailed and paid off.

31-Jan-11
Quickly gathered the clues a day earlier, with initial coordinates only about 100 metres from our campsite.
Headed up to GZ with my little girl before dinner. GZ didn't look to be took far from the track - when I looked at the map in the car! In reality, I should have looked at the terrain rating more closely ... initial approach was easy, but the final 100 metres involved climbing rocks through prickles - now with a 4 year old up on my shoulders (and not a happy little cacher)!
Found easily enough once there - little girl happier as I had her "find" the cache, followed by a prickly descent ...

Ian has a degree in Electronics Engineering, but it was a very long time ago and he had to really exert his braincells to get the answers!
He wasn't very convincing and the resulting co-ordinates were further (and in the wrong direction) than we wanted to walk, so we decided against it. Maybe next time....

After visiting the Bishop hayleyalyce and I called in here to this memorial. Well I must be toataly colorblind as I couldn't get a GZ that I didn't have to swim for. Something is just not right here. Hmmm Back to the drawing board.
Doh! I might have it now I'm back home lol. Yeh , some of those colors are definately a bit off.

Fortunately we have an electronics-guru in the family, though some of those colours looked a lot like other colours, especially in the late-afternoon light. we're inspired to come back next time and walk the whole track. thanks.

After much research and number substitition we finally came up with a location that we thought would be the place of the cach. Our efforts paid off. This was the second cach found by Team Button P and Team Thomas.

Hey
with Seldomin
after a LONG walk for the nextdoor cache
no luck either here
maybe sun reflection prevented us from guessing the right colour
or the googled colour code was not right

Wow this would have to be the hardest cache we have found Took a combined effort of Oakydog team oaky UnluckyCharm and even then we had to call on a caching friend at home to goggle the necessary code braking info (many thanx Bushwalkingbandit) after trying purple as one of the colours and ending up at a pit toilet we changed purple for a colour close to purple which isnt purple which is the colour on Memorial any ho.Once we got to new Gz we found it quite over grown no geo trail in sight'we were startng to think we had it wrong again but on our way back we looked in the only likely spot and found it' yea GPS reading was about 7 meters out
Cache all ok except for a leaky pen so BYO PEN left Geo badge took narda .Thanks for a great challenge.
PS Looks like we will be the only finder 4 2009

Had a lovely weekend with for friends for a 60th birthday. Decided a walk would do us good. Great views for the finding spot. This is my very favourite camping spot. The weather was great for both days. thanks for the cache

Managed to find this one after some head scratching today. Seems like a couple of the colours were a bit off for us today and our first solved coordinates and next best coordinates had us heading out to sea. Back to the drawing board to make sure the colour codes were indeed standardized and then a few close colour substitutions had us looking in a likely spot. Sure enough we found the cache very easily and enjoyed the scenery with some fading daylight. Thanks Biggles Bear team for the fun cache.

Gotta love a cache which combines history, spectacular views and a bit of ferreting around for knowledge. Awesome. Our most southerly cache too!!! Thanks guys.

04-Nov-07
Having found the clues with Alsume in the pouring rain before our monthly walk nearby, it was time to see if we could find this one in the bright sunshine after the walk was done. We headed to GZ and started our search. It took a little bit of searching but Al came up with the goods at 17:30.

TNLNSL, although a swag of Geocoins made a visit to mark this southerly mainland cache. Many thanks Biggles Bear.

Collected the clues before heading off with AWG bushwalk 71 companions to Squeaky Beach followed by Lilly Pilly Gully in what started out being somewhat inclement weather. The day cleared up as it went along and having completed the 18km of walking we were happy that we could get close to GZ by car.
Cache was found with Eudes at 5:30pm before heading off.
took Tidal River hat pin
left Mr Burns figurine
thanks Biggles Bear

As we hung around in Tidal River and worked out the final coordinates, we realised where the cache was and got an enormous sense of de ja vu. We'd actually looked for this one before, when it was in its charred state - also when we were on a mission to find Derringer's 'Above You Only Sky' cache...

We were slightly more successful this time round, and found the cache just as the sun was sinking low on the horizon.

The original location was a target for frisbee golf long before it was a clue for a geocache. (at least for our family)
Having taught digital electronics in a former life, I could recall 0-7, but 8,9 had me worried. Ended up with 2 GZs but only one suited. This is the closest to a drive-by in the Prom. Thanks to the previous finder who replaced the cache. It's all in good order and the clue still works.

Found by djcache.

A difficult cache in more ways than one. I knew my resistor colour code quite well from a former career. My eye sight however had me trying two options for one colour. The first gave a seemingly unlikely GZ, the second was more likely being accessible by a well used marked trail not far from a place to park the geofourby.

I contacted BB and asked if anyone had had a good look since the fire and they weren't sure so I offered to do so.

A day or so later after about an hours searching I had a small black charred mass in my hand found in an area matching the hint. It has layers of charred paper in it which would have been the log book, some metalic bits (? a badge back) and the remnants of the boiled plastic container.

I have replaced it for them and it is now in a 400ml Sistema box with a new log book and some swaps. The hide still matches the description and is within 1metre of the original location but slightly more hidden.

Access to this area was discussed with a ranger as I was leaving and provided cachers stick to the rock slab and rock access from directly below there should be no issues - but don't take the slightly easier (flatter) route.

If we damage the area it won't remain.

Thanks BB for the challenge. I've got the remains packed up in an evidence bag for your analysis.

Took charred remains
Left new cache container, log & swaps

Hi,
Before its reactivated it needs to have the coordinates of all the waypoints entered using the waypoint listing facility on the cache page. Its also been out of action for over 12 months and is over 160Km from your home area so you better write a reviewer note explaining the maintenance procedures you have put in place to maintain it in a more timely fashion.

I'll retract the listing and unarchive it so you can make the changes.

Unarchiving cache.

12-Dec-05
Had a brief look while starting an afternoon walk of the northern circuit (telegraph/sealers/waterloo/telegraph). However the area is burnt and if the cache is still there it is probably destroyed. Didn't look long as the area is still quite sensitive to being disturbed in its current state.

As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, and assuming it still meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

It would seem that recent fires have devistated the cache site. Will replace cache on our next trip to this area.

17-Apr-05
Be aware that recent fires in this area may have affected the final cache location. We will check it out at our soonest opportunity.

Found by NarreYouth

found the cache about midnight. It was a full moon.

Very well hidden. Took us about five minutes to find.

We felt like sleeping up there because it was so nice and we were tired. [|)]

Thnx Biggles Bear

You can actually do this one without knowing the colour coding system for electronic resistors by heart, so long as you've got a Muzza to call. So we put in the call, learnt the colour values, went looking for waypoint #1.

We met our big challenge here! The monument at waypoint #1 is just out of torch range (for colour recognition), & it's now after 11pm. Gave it a go & found the cache was 21.4 km away Surprised.
Obviously a mistake in at least one colour recognition. Recalculated -Still Nope Sad. Risked waking up Muzza again, got the co-ords, & raced up the hill. Myself along with a great bunch of youth (NarreYouth) piled out of the car, went a looking, and after working out how best to tackle the terrain by full moon & torch light, approached GZ. From there it was a pleasant find within several minutes, by the young blokes. (photo to come in next few days). This part of the landscape is wonderful.
TNLN Thanks Biggles Bear
P.S. The lower colour on the West side is fading a little -look carefully.
P.P.S. The road up, is closed of a daytime during peak season, every year. If you see a "road closed" sign, there will be a shuttle bus every 1/2 hour from Norman bay carpark.

Was not at all prepared for this one. Good to see I retained my knowledge of electronics. Worked out the details the day before and walked from initial clue point to GZ. I very nice stroll.
A nice spot to sit and watch the world go by. Thanks.

Found at 10.50am on a beautifull still day, which was completely different from the previous day's drizzle and wind - how this place changes from day to day. A good morning walk to help burn the wine and food from the previous night saw us in a very interesting location.

Thanks BB for a lesson on resistor colours.

With revised clues we had no trouble locating this one.
The Prom is a great area, We never tire of coming back here.

Found and worked out the clues very quickly, have visted this place 30 times over the last 40 years. Attempted ground zero, on the way home, but time and inappropriate foot wear, were against us.

David & Josiah.

Finally found this cache on the Saturday evening! The clues at the first waypoint were collected two days earlier. An SMS to friends in Melbourne supplied us with the information we required to figure out the location of GZ. It was a beautiful secluded spot!

Found by Rachel, Pam and Geoff at 7:55pm on Tuesday 27th January, 2004.
Rachel did a great job of collecting the colours from the object at the initial location last evening. I had brought the resistor colour code key and we went through the decoding last night at our camp site. After a day spent bushwalking in the morning and swimming (trying to surf) in the afternoon, we had tea and then set out in search of this cache. The possible impediment to our progress had been removed now that the busy season is over, and we arrived at the general location at about 7:30pm with the sun starting to fade a little.

We walked to the vicinity of the cache, and Rachel found it quite easily although those of us wearing shorts picked up a few scratches along the way, and the traditional march fly / mozzie interaction.

The cache was quite small but we managed a swap, and then returned to our camp, stopping at a spring we used to use in the past, when the water at the Prom was a bit dodgy.
Took the helicopter tie pin
Left a “Geocaching.com†rear windscreen decal

Thanks Biggles Bear, we enjoyed the hunt yet again!

After arriving at the first location and working out the required colours, I translated them into numbers and did the mathematics. I wasn’t quite sure of which way around two of the colours in the resistor codes went, but luckily they were used in such a way that they could only be one way.

After driving to near GZ, I took the short walk and soon came up with the goods. I took an Ally Oop Bean (whatever that is) and left a small car in its place. GZ afforded some lovely views, as well as the drive up to and back from it. Thanks for an enjoyable cache with a bit of history thrown in as well.

Now we know why A could not equal 8.
Will try again when next in area.

Found by Mary & David at 1030. Flushed with success after "Straight Up? Or On the Rocks?", and with David's electronics background, we thought this one would be simple enough. Arrived at the monument and noted the varous colours then retreated to GeoMitzi to do the sums. Biggles didn't warn us he had used Z Force techniques to scramble the colour code! Wink (The clues have since been unscrambled.) David loves a puzzle, but Mary wasn't about to search every possible GZ. Unable to raise Biggles on the hint line, we made a couple of assumptions and the clues then pointed in a likely direction. On the way, Mary was cheered up by the profusion of wildflowers. Overjoyed when we found the cache first go. Took camouflage bean, left helicopter tie pin. Really felt the spirit of the commandos who had been here so long ago. Many thanks to Biggles Bear for another puzzle and another adventure.
