As there has been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it has been a number of months since the last owner note I am archiving this cache to keep from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact a reviewer (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, the reviewer will be happy to unarchive it.

Should you replace the cache after 30 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary. Please respond to this situation in a timely manner (i.e., within 30 days) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness. If you require more time please be sure to post a note (not an email) explaining the situation and how much more time you require. For ongoing issues please ensure you visit the page and post a note every month or so to keep everyone up to date.

DNF on a cleanup run with Quasar3671. Not huge numbers for the night, but some great caches and a good catch up with Q.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Looked with a previous finder, and no good at all. Got some exercise trying.

02-May-13
Check out co-ords - S 37 52.627 E 145 19.208 (see my log back in Sept 2009). The original posted coordinates are way, way off, by around 20 metres back UP the track from memory. (Look inside the hollowed out base of the tree on the left-side of the track (going up hill)). If someone finds it again and can get the posted coords updated then I'll pull this note. Good luck.!

I can not see a needs maintenance log on this cache,
From the Help Centre, http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=57
If you find a geocache that is in need of some help (e.g. container is cracked, logbook is full or wet), please post a "Needs Maintenance" log on the cache page so the cache owner and the community is notified. This log adds an attribute to the page (looks like a colored cross) to alert other geocachers of the needed repairs. Logging Needs Maintenance does not increase find count. Needs Maintenance logs are not forwarded to reviewers.
and from the Archive help centre article http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=56
Please use this log only when there are serious problems with the cache or its location. Do not use it if the cache needs repairs, or you didn't find it, or the location made you uncomfortable. Please consider first contacting the owner of the geocache with your concerns. Use the profile link next to the cache owner's name at the top of the cache page to send an email, as well as logging to the cache page about your visit.
If you have no response from the cache owner after 30 days then I'd suggest using a Needs Archive Note. Except for in the most extreme cases, it's normally best to give the cache owner a chance to fix the issue before alerting the reviewers.

01-Mar-13
As per all previous DNFs, maintenance entries, and no owner confirmation over several months.

01-Mar-13
Found the obvious spot with a solid Glonass/gps and Agps sync. Not found. Not appropriate to go off the track here. No confirmation from cache owner in months. Probably should be archived.

12-Jan-13
Looked around, could not find

29-Dec-12
Didn't find it. Had trouble with locating GZ as reception on iPhone was a bit erratic under the trees. I also hadn't read over previous logs for helpful hints and sooo many Muggles. My come back after dark with a good torch. Not really a pleasant walk anymore with so many people using the stairs as a place to get fit.
Anyway TFTC

On an excursion for the end of year with the Year 9's I was hoping to be able to find this one today but to no avail! Not sure my phone had me in the right spot and after reading previous logs not sure about the correct co-ords - will need to do some other homework and return for another look! Not the easist cache to do discreetly with the hundreds of people up here doing the 1000 steps over and over again

Thanks for bringing me back here anyway

26-Nov-12
Every so often, on one of my 'trips' up the stairs, I try for a quick find on this cache. Yet again, not found this time

12-Oct-12
Awesome spot for a cache. Like stepping off the track into another world. TFTC

26-Sep-12
Tftc tough to avoid muggles but a great location

11-Sep-12
Track was fenced off for construction today, and there being muggles galore including workers I thought better of it.

10-Sep-12
OMG! Stopped counting "up" and "down" muggles when we reached 1 million! And it is a MONDAY!!! Found a sheltered place to rest at 1300hrs, chatted to the guardian and left a frog eraser to enjoy the cool damp. Hope it doesn't leave the safety of the cache and get trampled! Thanks kiwideb for this interesting cache (and the exercise?).

Wow................ we found it. In between the people going up and the people going down, a quick diversion off the track to seclusion and there it was. Thanks to all the previous logs who offered partial clues. Put them all together and bingo.

10-Jun-12
Very disappointed not to find this one. Very tricky with the coordinates, constant stream of muggles, and the terrain. Thanks anyway kiwideb, I never have visited this spot and despite not finding it, I still got to step part of the trail Smile

10-Jun-12
Was doing the 13th cache series with lemmykc and we noticed that this one was not far off our path.
It was muggle central however and although we spent a while looking for it, we couldn't find it. Liam looked a little way off the track but this was awkward with the muggle concentration. Since the logs indicated dodgy coordinates and in this location it was irresponsible to go off the path we left it.

07-Jun-12
On a cold Melbourne winters night at 21:00 you'd think this place would be muggle free? Well it was not! After they cleared off and I had the place to myself it took some finding. After reading some logs it became clear that GZ is a little down from the village in a place that the hint rather understates! Liked this one. TFTC

24-Mar-12
Even on a cold and wet morning this spot seemed almost as busy as Bourke St, with hardly any breaks in the foot traffic! We didn't have an opportunity to have a very good look. Even so, this was a fantastic spot, and an enjoyable walk up and down the steps. Thanks for the hide.

24/03/12 11:57 AM So many people! Great location to visit but just couldn't make the find but that's ok cos I like it here and will have to come back.

02-Feb-12
Found tonight as one of twenty finds during a night cache run which took me through Scoresby, on up to Ringwood and across for some trekking through the Dandenong Ranges. It was quite a mild night and a quarter moon, perfect conditions for caching.
I was back here tonight after getting majorly muggled out during a day time visit on a previous occasion, so with no muggles about I could search uninterrupted. It was rather eerie here at this time of night and very dark when I turned the torch off, but rather peaceful at the same time.
Once again the tree coverage and terrain was playing havoc with the GPS and I searched here and there, then went off track a bit further to find the cache in a large secluded spot.
A fantastic area. Thanks kiwideb.

28-Dec-11
Found at 16:18. Did a walk including the steps, One Tree Hill, Tysons track, Outlook Road and returning via the Lyrebird track. I tried to find the cache on the way up, but needed to phone a friend for reassurance that I was looking in the right spot (my GPSr was 100m off, while my iPhone had a reasonably good fix on this one). Though by the time I got hold of him I was already walking down Tysons track, so I made a detour back down to find the cache, before walking back up to Lyrebird track. Nice little specimen. Nice walk through the gully up the stairs, just a chaos with all the crowds. Thanks.

In my search for this cache, I was hoping to acoumplish 3 things.
1. Find another cache in my 10km from radius of unfound caches.
2. Find a cache that I have attempted 3 times before with no luck.
3. Clear another day in my project 366 and in doing so, have found a cache in every day in October.

Mission acoumplished. In the fading light of day, I finally had a muggle free period to search and with the help of a caching buddy, was able to make the find, getting close to dark now.

I really enjoyed the journey too and from this cache, I parked the car in the Peregrine Heights estate and walked to the top of the mountain, then down the steps to GZ. After making the find, I jogged all the way back to the car now in almost full darkness.

Thanks to kiwideb for the cache, TNLN, Signed the log.

This took a bit of stealth. A little ways from the where the GPS was pointing but in an obvious spot! Second attempt at this cache. First time too many muggles. TFTC

[purple]Half-way?[/purple]

Myles and I were coming from above and he mentioned that we might walked half way down the mountain. Well after a quick look on the GPS we saw we were far from half way :cute: After reading some hints and coords in previous logs we found it in the most obvious spot (Just deduct the path, the muggles & everything man-made and think where you would place it)

Stairs, what stairs??

Cmon the place was busier than Bourke Street today.

I'd hate to be here in good weather!!

I'm glad I thought we were half way down, mmmm not.

The area is great around GZ.

The cache after thinking a little to the left of norm was found quickly.

Enjoyed the work out back to the top.

Maybe one day I'll attempt the rest.

TFTC Smile

I thought I was in need of this one as part of my project 81, however It turns out that it was the other steps cache that I needed to collect.. ohhwell.. next time.. turns out this one does however fill a hole in my "Finds by placed month" chart.. Thanks Kiwideb for a very challenging muggle factor find.. I only had 2 opportunity's muggle free for 30-60 seconds searching in the 20 ish minutes I was there for.. as it turned out sufficient cover was afforded by the surrounds which I found myself inside after I eventually used my smart phone to check an old log.. Thanks Biggles of Oz for the correct coords S 37 52.627 E 145 19.208, and p-boro for the hint "not far from Isurava Village in a very typical place" Thanks Kiwideb for the cache and my #1366 find.

11-Jun-11
Sad very busy day at the walk. Using an iPhone as a Gps signal ain't a good idea.. Looked around the place for a while.. Too damp.. Will return

25-Apr-11
What a great workout!! Over here from Tassie for Easter and went exploring with geosister. Didn't have to search too much for this one as I was instructed where to go, but I noticed that the GPS was waving about a fair bit. TFTC

Found @1940 #343
This one as been on my list since I first started this great game.
Had heard that Frday evening was one of the quieter times so I plan my approach to happen during the magic hour... Starting from the top I walk down to GZ and thanks to recent logs was soon at the GZ site with updated coordinates and a more descriptive hint then what is provided on the cache page. Before I left the track the GPS was at about 13m.
You need to be fit for this one, even starting at the top the walk back to the car had me short of breath quite quickly. Nice area... TFTC, TNLN

We got it...

Beautiful day perfect for a good satelite pick up..
gps was working on 7 satellites with a 14mt coverage...

but cache was still 75-138mt

away from where it was telling us to be

great idea to read through the previous logs and to use your cache sense not just the
equipment

fantastic spot
much quieter today than wednesday

took nothing, not much in the was of swaps so left some finger lights......

28-Jan-11
We went everywhere for this one, I think our GPS wasn't quite upto it today,
Will try again next weekend.
This had to be the busiest place in Melbourne today.

26-Jan-11
This was his choice today gps reception awful, tree cover and cloudy we were not sure where we were looking.
Not supposed to be off the path here made it tricky...
People everywhere you just couldn't move, stopping on the steps was even tricky.
But we will be back very soon....
Tried with both sets of co-ords and still couldn't see it couldn't go poking too much just way too many people.
This one may be much easier as a night cache run, less visability but at least you can look.

24-Jan-11
If you find this one, you have done well. Thanks Biggles of Oz for the correct coords S 37 52.627 E 145 19.208, and p-boro for the clue that helped solve it. Pays to read those previous logs!!!!

The kiwideb clue does not help, think like a cacher and you'll get this one. I got a fair workout here, some caches are not for everyone, don't try this one unless you are reasonably fit.

This would be in my top 5 finds. TFTC!!!

03-Jan-11
My, what a climb! Found at 00:15 after completing a fantastic series with C@H and hazey1. Contents a little damp, but easily signed. Not so easy the path in!
TFTC

03-Jan-11
We where stuffed by the time we got to this one.. and then the Stairs.. and more of them. Starruby, Hazey1 and myself spent our time searching. After some time I hear Hazey1 say he needs light, He always has a torch but it is always flat Smile I find him in a good spot for a cache and point my torch "over there" and ask him is it there. Since he was standing right next to it he looks and says "Got it". We where happy to find this so we could head home for some well deserved sleep. TFTC

03-Jan-11
Found at 00:15; joint with Covert and Starruby; after completing a mystery series saw this one nearby and was on way back to car; a *fun* walk up the hill and down some stairs to get this one; i arrived at liekly gz but torch decided to go flat; soon covert accompanied me and we had the cache; a easy find; tftc

09-Sep-10
It's all very well saying how easy it was for you to find the cache, but since the owner of this cache seems to have disappeared the rest of us have nobody that we can get tips or further hints from.
One thing that the owner forgot to mention is that anybody attempting to find this cache would need to be relatively fit or they could end up in serious danger. People have had heart attacks from exerting much less energy than is required to locate this cache.

09-Sep-10
Came back today to correct my mistake with the coin drop. Since the cache does not get visited very often I took it out again.
Just why people find it so hard to retrieve the cache I don't know. You are well hidden from muggle view where the box is. Ths hint is not very useful. It's not far from Isurava Village in a very typical place, if that's any help.
p-boro

17-Aug-10
We think we found the spot but got stung by a vicious prickly bush, plus muggles were everywhere and one if our group had an asthma attack!

09-Aug-10
Beaten today by this one, this place is busier than Bourke st, really hard to have a good look around and to many places you can hide a cache with the gps accuracy only down to 6m area,

24-Jul-10
So glad the rain didn’t stop us from doing the trail today as it just added to the atmosphere of the valley. The trail is so beautiful ( you just have to look past all the other people doing it).

I had anticipated this to be a difficult find due to the latest logs, so I read through older logs, finding both a good description and better coordinates. The hiding place is perfect, almost a landmark on the trail, and very hard to miss. It even offers good protection from muggle view.
Left a coin.

A truly worthy cache for #999 Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

"Pink Ribbon Bird" Breast Cancer Awareness Coin"
I dropped this coin in Stairs Stairs and more Stairs today, but hadn't noted the tracking number yet. That's why it is still showing in the previous cache (GCZ8G6). Could the next finder please contact me, so I can correct the track.

11-Jul-10
didnt find it on a dandenongs run with Go Solar and pfh007. millions of grunting muggles. Even more rotting logs. Perhaps a clue? Like the number of stairs?

06-Jul-10
It's gonna take me some time to get over that walk... It's a shame that I didn't find it because I have now vowed never to do that again.
One guy went past us three times just in the time that we went from the top down to where the cache should be. He was either mad or super fit... I'm not sure about that one.
It is a beautiful area but walking those steps is not for the faint hearted or unfit person like me.
Maybe I'll find it in another life.

22-Jun-10
Its been too long and too cold. Time for the Geo-coin to move on to somewhere a little warmer.Smile TNLN

05-Jun-10

crank1 with me ... i never see before that place so beautiful ... but its raining and fog too... but lot lot of muggles around
would nt find it front of ppl...smile.... one day i will go there beautiful day ...

05-Jun-10
We give up as too many muggles there... also was raining and fog.. we will come back during the spring time.. Sad

31-May-10
Yay, first find, with LeanneH. She found it actually, I was the muggler lookout. Smile

28-May-10
Thanks to the person who sent the clue. Had looked at the spot briefly, but gave up as had prescription sunglasses on. Still lots of muggles around, so a very quick visited helped by the clue.

25-May-10
Great cache. Took Geo-damo along for his first find. 7.45am, so muggles not a problem. Left Geo-coin

21-May-10
First time gps had led me a stray. Got to a right angle in the track with a big single sided tree. GPS went hay wire and couldn't get closer then 30m close. Constant stream of muggles so douubt could have found it if I had got a more accurate location.

11-Apr-10
The coords were a little off but finally found it

10-Apr-10
found a while back thought i better log it

This is a great walk, my girlfriend and I decided this was great for our fitness training and thought we might try find the cache while we were at it but no luck.(mind you we didn't look very hard there were so many muggles) Will come back soon for the walk and try again.

03-Feb-10
Have now tried this cache 3 times. Each time GPSr would never showing better than 13m EPE, and always showed GZ way off track in the nearby valley. Any further hints that may help ?

02-Jan-10
3 pairs of eyes and GPS better than one a torch may be helpful too. Will smile with satisfaction each time I pass this spot.

02-Jan-10
Huf and Puff, break, look. Took ages to find this cache.
Did the walk wth xambo4u, she is a lot fitter than I am. Near this cache we met up with Jefina.
It was thanks to Biggles new co-ordinates and Jefina's sharp poking with a stick we found this cache.

02-Jan-10
Out and about on this wet day with Toy Car. Just came up those 746 steps and fully recovered. We encouraged newly aquired cacher Jefina friend, to join us. She had tried to get this one before as she is a regular walker of the track but she felt disadvantaged. With Toy Car along this cache was easily obtained which he was very happy about.
Thanks for the cache.

Our second cache whilst here on holiday. We really enjoyed the walk but unfortunately no luck with the cache. Maybe next time when we are over we will have better look and choose a time when the may be less vegetation.

30-Sep-09
Enjoyed looking for this one with Mrs Biggles. The cache location was excellent and will appeal to other trolls! Big Grin
I'm guessing the original coords were a bit off since a few others haven't been able to find it (try: S 37 52.627 E 145 19.208) or maybe they don't like looking in dark, damp places. Wink

Be alert as the place is crawling with muggle Kakoda wannabe's (especially during weekends and school holidays) and extracting/replacing the cache requires stealthy vigilance to avoid being 'sprung' by these pesky muggles.

Oh, and the log book is full (both sides) and damp too. If we get a chance Mrs B and I will sneak back there (on a dark rainy night to avoid muggles) and replace the log. I'll update this comment once we've done it - assuming no one beats us to it.

TFTC

Update: Added new log book (in a new stronger zip-lock bag) yesterday 6th October 2009.

Gosh, this one was a bit of a strain on the old legs and as busy as Burke Street Mall in January, it took quite a while being the look-out for Biggles of Oz to retrieve, then to replace the cache which was very wet. I didn't know there was so many people who enjoyed running up and down 1000 steps to keep fit, or were they just looking for the cache??? Big Grin

31-May-09

Yep the name says it all. A bonus pick up while completing 746 found with Elaine on the way down thanks for the hide a great place for a cache

13-May-09
Looked everywhere - I wonder if it is still there has been a long time since a find!!!!!!

11-Apr-09
Unfortunately we couldn't find this one.. We seemed to be in the right spot according to the GPS but we couldn't find it.. I wonder if it's still there as the last find was last May?? Anywho, it was a great (and somewhat tiring!) walk up the stairs so it was worth it anyway! Smile

07-Jun-08
Called in to do this one today but Might have to take this one off the available list for a while as the stairs are closed for 3 months from the 30th May for maintenance.
Have to try again some other time.

04-May-08
Kiwideb, the logbook is damp and full on one side of each page, we have been writing on the other side working from the back of the book. As I live nearby contact me if you would like a new log book put in the cache.

04-May-08
Found by Peter & Marian at 16:25hrs, this one has been on the to do list ever since I have been a geocacher. We only live a short walk up the road, had a look at this one 2 nights ago but it was too dark to even try looking without a torch. It was very busy today but with a partner to distract the walkers/muggles I managed to discover the hiding place, excellent. TNLN, TFTC Kiwideb..

A tough cache to retrieve - what are all these people doing here on a Good Friday?? A busy walking track indeed! Anyway, after quite a wait I was able to retrieve and later replace the cache with no hassles - the clue given by the previous finder proving to be quite invaluable! Took Albida 02 Ghost Jeep Geocoin, LN. SL at 6pm. Thanks kiwideb for an enjoyable cache.

16-Feb-08
I don't know what was going on at 9am this Saturday morning, but there were hundreds of muggles climbing up and down the stairs. Seriously, I'd say a least one muggle passed the spot on average every 5 seconds. Although I was pretty sure I'd spied the location, I didn't get a chance to look, even after hanging around the spot 20 minutes or so. Pity, it's certainly a great place. Thanks kiwideb, I'll try again some other time.

26-Jan-08
[Found at 1300. This is kind of place I could really use for training. Loved going down the stairs and back up again. The only problem was that the cache was lying out in the open, as if someone found it and threw it back on top of the plant life. I've had to rehide it again of course, although not knowing where it went, and considering it was found by a muggle anyway, I've placed it] inside the large hollow tree on the right as you go down, behind a large rock, under some wood. [Thankyou for placing a cache here].

Found @ 2.15pm with the help of G & D. Took: TB Geocoin world, Placed: TB Geocoin 4wd. Lots of muggles...

The walk down was much more fun! TFTC!! Smile

Muggle Central! I guess it's cheaper than the gym. We may have looked a bit strange to some as we tried to stealthily retrieve and replace the cache, but it was probably no stranger than what everyone else was doing. Swapped GCs and signed the log. TFTC

Third find of the day with SuperJaz. It's unbelievable what some people put themselves through!!!

We managed to find this in a 'gap' in the muggle flow, make some swaps and then replace it in another gap.

Took: Sydney Eternity GC

I too missed it on the way up and had to return to get it. There was a break between muggle fanatics where I was able to grab it and walk away to sign it. I'm glad the hint was good as the satellite coverage is pretty rough here. Thanks for a great spot to visit.

So greatful to be on the way down now! Missed this one on the way up, lost signal, found it on the way down using our geosense Smile TNLNSL.

11-Sep-07
Well we missed it on the way up to other caches and decided to get it on the way down. The GPSr lost reception about 40m away so we guessed the area. The first looked logical but maybe too much of a muggle zone. The next spot was the one. Loads of muggles on the way up and more when we came down. The after workers I guess! 3rd of 3 today. Now to rest the legs!

Found at 13:00, me and my cousin and aunt went for a little walk up the mountain here. We came across this Cache and had to be careful of Muggles, judging from how my aunt was doing, it was a well needed rest Razz

There were lots of mugglers, but we we able to retrieve it in between...
Most mugglers were mre busy with gasping for air. We weren't cause we approached from the other side. And back up we had less than the 1000 to go.
The logbook is sort of full and a bit damp.
Took the TB and left a coin.
thx.

Think it's pretty clear where it is but running out of battery and an UNBELIEVABLE number of people around on this narrow track. Another really great spot found thru caching - and I did ALL the steps up & down!

First try at geocaching. Thanks for the guidance Luckdogscrew. Great to meet you and the luck dog herself.

All the best, we'll probably bump in to you out there.

Did a quick grab of this cache, while en route for cache "746 Actually". We had a couple of GeoReporters in tow, who were very excited to find their first cache.

Just couldn't get a decent position with the older etrex I have on loan while my (much more sensitive) 60csx is being fixed. Every where I tried was 60 metres from the cache. Pity - great location. Thanks kiwideb for taking me there anyway.

I decided to grab this one on a cub scout Jamboree of the trail day. There was probably 60-80 of us heading up the trail and I was one of the tail-enders when I realised that I'd passed by a cache on my map!!! About a minute earlier I had seen a big hollow tree and thought...mmm, nice place to hide a cache. So I raced back down the path and quickly nabbed the cache while no-one was looking. While I was signing the log, the my daughter's group leader showed up and was most interested in what I was up to, and we had to wait a minute or two for the massive number of muggles to disperse somewhat before I could return it. The log is quite soggy.

carried my bicycle up the steps and nabbed a few caches in the area. The big hollow tree is a teaser.

This was my second attempt at this one as I had an unsuccessful try a while back after about an hours search. Today I thought after about half an hour searching that the result was going to be the same then bingo, I was sure I had looked in that spot last time. GPSr was little help as the accuracy was way out at the few times I got any signal at all. The muggles were all out as usual but I was able to retrieve log and return the cache undetected. 4th find of the day at 8:36am. Accompanied by Feathertop on our Eastern Suburbs for a day Bash. The GPS didnt seem to settle and even with the clue it took us a while to find the cache, it sure took a bit out of me climbing those steps again.

Thanks goodness for the clue and Oenze's GPS as mine lost all coverage in the dense forest. Fit muggles in all directions on a humid morning. Glad to log this one. Thanks kiwideb

2nd attempt on this one. Didn't bother bringing the GPS this time as last time it was so unreliable.
I almost feel guilty reading the logs, as I'm a regular walker on these stairs! So from me and on behalf of all the muggles out there who frequent this spot: sorry that we make it hard for you all to find this one!!
My first attempt was at aroung 7:15 in the morning, but too many muggles to do any serious searching. So this time, I made sure I got there nice and early, and armed with my trusty head lamp, found this one just after 6am after searching high and low for about twenty minutes(would you believe it: around 12 muggles on the way up as I was coming down!)
Love this spot. Thanks Kiwideb, for a great cache.

Yes the sats were troublsome, and there were very regular muggles, but the clue was good and the cache was found after only a few minutes. Plenty of muggle breaks gave me ample time to do the paperwork and TN but left keychain. A nice hide in a very popular iconic spot. Thanks kiwideb.

Found on a day caching while the car was being serviced (big service). The cache description really lets you know what your in for with this one. The history and information on the plaques is great and I enjoyed the small physical challenge. A recent storm has washed a lot of things away and I thought the cache might have been one of them at first. I found the cache after decending a little too far. Cache was full of water and the bag of swaps was and has been wet for a while so I removed it to the bin. This left only a couple of plastic creatures left as swaps and the log book in a seperate bag which is fairing ok. Cache is not quite at maintainence but getting close. Left Geocoin to entice a visitor with a few swaps. TFTC
