After 20min we decided to leave and log a DNF. The grass is that high and we didnt want to disturb snakes...
Would be great if the owner would maintain instead of archiving it.
But the excursion to Moss Garden was very beautiful!

If you read back through the logs of recent DNF's you will note that only 2 are true DNF's, the rest should have been written as notes. This cache is resonably hard to find so I would like for there to be one more serious attempt at finding this cache before I am prepared to archive it.
Did you attempt to find the cache?
Thanks

I forded the streams and bounced the rental car over the rocks and sand to get to the park. Too bad all trails beyond the visitor's center are closed due to flood damage from last week. Not sure why the visitor's center was closed too. It did not seem to be damaged. Maybe the park rangers decided there were not enough of us pesky visitors around to bother with. So, they closed everything and took holidays. VERY disappointing. Maybe the next time I am in Australia they will open up.
After a long walk in the morning we thought to tackle the lookout and see if we could find this one. GPS problems meant that we couldn't pinpoint it so we had to pass. Awesome views and well worth the effort. Finding the cache would have been a bonus.
I arrived on the 5th April at Takarakka on the Emerald Coaches Bus with a group to do some serious walking on the next 2 days. On the 6th of April I walked Bulimba Bluff which is a nice but steep walked and then on the 7th April Our group walked the track to the moss gardens and the Art Gallert. I didn't go and check on the cache to see if it was there. I wish I did though after reading the logs.
Regarding DaBuzzard DNF...Maybe the Rangers took it. I found out while at Carnarvon that it is a $6,000 fine for going off the track (which is required to find this cache) and a $235,000 fine for going off track at the Art Gallery.
Thanks,
Camstal

Drove about 400km to have a look at Carnavon Gorge and grab this cache but it looks like this ones has gone MIA.

The GPS always wanted to send me off track. As it was a NP i didn't want to wonder off to long (as they just warned us for high fines that apply when they catch you off track). Nevertheless spent a few minutes around the cache but couldn't find it. All i saw was an empty and thorn plastic box that could have been the cache...
We continued the walk to the end of the gorge and were very pleased.

Spent 4 days up here and loved it. Nabbed this cache at 9am before a tour guide and his group arrived. Continued onto the Art Gallery, Wards Canyon and Amphitheatre. Favourite gorge though was the side gorge off the Mickey's Creek walk - definitely worth exploring, especially if you feel like a bit of adventure!
good hide gps a a little off but clue spot on although hidden well. Found with 2 interested muggles. Enjoyed the walk and the find. TFTC took ball and golf card left keyring and hair beeds.,
I was last in this area in 2004 and my how it has changed - where once there was vegetation now it's devoid. Maddie and I set of for a decent walk also with the intention of nabbing this one. We walked to the Art Gallery and back doing the side walks as well. Maddie not overly impressed at the distance we walked - I told her it was only a few Km.
I had a lot of trouble with getting any decent lock with the GPS and as a result it had me all over the place. I searched for a good half hour to no avail. Also being school holidays the muggle population was substantial and I had to be more cautious. Well despite having to log a DNF on this one the area is well worth the visit. Next time I may even try for the end of the gorge - though I doubt if maddie will be joining me on the full walk. Thanks for the cache even though it was a no find.

29/09/2008 Carnarvon gorge is great. The moss garden a little further on from this cache is a really nice cool (cold) place to cool down on a hot Day. Took a little while to find this cache the co-ords are a little bit out. TNLN TFTC
Nice easy find - but it is a long drive from Brisbane just for this cache so we suggest stopping off at the Bandana Airstrip on the way in for a free introductory talk and the possibility to engage a really knowledgeable guide!

After meeting up with thepiggies at Injune, we drove through the the Arcadia Valley on our way to Carnarvon Gorge. The next day we set off to explore the gorge. Our guide was most concerned about this thing hidden in the gorge and the damage that might be being caused by cachers trying to find it. After the art gallery (how many cameras can you see), wards canyon and the amphitheatre, we headed up to the moss garden. We ducked in to find the cache which Mrpiggy did quite quickly. (try 802 for the decimal E minutes). Our guide was fine, the knoll was used as a helicopter landing area about 7 years ago, so no cacher was going to cause anymore damage. We explored the Hellhole gorge but apparently no guides are allowed to lead anyone into it. The Fairy Pool can be found in the Hellhole Gorge - almost an oxymoron. TFTC
Found this one after a great walk to the Moss Garden. Heaps of walks to do throughout this National Park but unfortunately we only had time to do a couple. Will definately be back to re-visit this great spot.

FOund while staying at Takaraka for 3 nights. Great place. A little different from last time I was here 11 years ago. Took TB.
Spent 2 full days at the gorge on a trip from Melbourne to Longreach. What a fantastic place.
Unfortunately Hellshole Gorge is currently closed to visitors so could not register a find.
Went on to Longreach and left just as the rain started. Went down the Infracombe-Isisford road. Got through in the Outback but Landcruisers couldn't get through the mud - too heavy.

Missed this one My wife and her folks came along for the find, but alas, after about 20 minutes of fighting the GPS for a good signal (the nokia 6110 nav didn't like those trees much..), we were stumped..
I'm pretty sure we were relatively close, however seeing as Im not to fond of spiders and everyone wanted to move on to the moss garden (which I really didn't wanna miss) I had to leave this one to another day...(much to my disgust)
We looked under just about every rock (obviously one of the few left unturned were the ones that it was under..). I'm sure it's floating around there somewhere, though hopefully it didn't get washed away (like half of the walkway that had been replaced just recently) from the deluge the other month..
Either way we didn't get a find this time around.. And it's been a while since we've got to check out a cache, so perhaps we're out of practice too.. TFTC and that rock and surrounding area has an absolutely wonderful outlook on the rest of the valley..

First find for 2008 and first one's to the cache for the new year! Awesome views...in the park - the Ranger's Station were happy enough to give us the hint and co-ordinates off the internet since we'd forgotten to take them and now they're interested in the World of Geo-caching as well.
Took 'Yo peace! No returns. Number 1' Travel Bug and left lighter. Will move it south somewhere....happy hunting =)
By the way - our GPS was working fine - until we almost ran our of battery power...but we got there not a problem.

Well this is what Caching is all about. My geowife and our geo friend were here in Carnarvon Gorge to do some sightseeing and bushwalking. The first day we did a short walk and that night we met Peter and his Wife who are from Holland, Peter said he does Geocaching back there, but did not worry about any caches in Australia. Peter is also helping me with what new GPS to get. Today we went as far as the Art Gallery to look at the Aboriginal rock art. (One of the best rock art around) and then back to Ward’s Canyon the Amphitheatre and on to the Moss Garden and “Hellhole’s Gorge-us View†to grab the cache. All went according to plan till I was about 30 metres off the cache, that’s when the satellite’s failed me. I saw which way the GPS was pointing last time I had satellite reception so I headed up that way but could still not get any more that 2 satellite’s on my (Soon to be OLD) GPS. I had to read the notes and go from there. (Yes the first large rock, not all the other on the hill WHICH I SEARCHED by the way) to cut a long story short I found the cache but only by searching for it the GPS was useless, anyway when I opened the log I saw that someone else (Hugo & Sasha from Holland) (not the people we met the previous night) had logged the cache about half an hour before me, now that is amazing as this cache is in an out of the way location and to have someone find it on the same day is incredible, anyway I filled in the log, left a couple of TB’s and off I went. On the way back to our camp site it started to rain really heavy and as we were soaking wet by then we decided to keep walking, we met a couple of people hiding under a tree trying to keep dry (which wasn’t working) and I said hello as I walked past, something made me stop and ask “you wouldn’t be Hugo and Sasha would you and to my amazement they were, now isn’t that a great way to meet fellow cachers. They finished up coming back to our camp where I gave Hugo some TB’s and Coins to take back to Holland to continue there travel as they said they were leaving Australia in the next fey days.
Thank You GrandT for this cache it’s always nice to meet fellow cachers while out caching. And thank you Hugo and Sasha for being there caching so we could meet you.
Geocaching is a wonderful sport
The cache is getting a bit brittle; maybe another cacher could replace it with a more robust container.

Carnarvon gorge NP would be one of the better parks in Queensland and it is!
In contrast to WA there are caches to be found in National Parks why I dont know, but anyway hiking in a park for a cache is our ultimate day out and we really enjoyed it almost everythink here is only reached by foot.No trouble finding the cache and on our way back it started to rain cats and dogs. While hiding under a tree a couple passed by and asked if my name happened to be Hugo.... I thought in a split second that my car burnt out or something and they found a piece of paper with my name on it or whatever anyway not that someone logged the cache just after us hahaha, normally caches like these are found once a month so I was really surprised to be sofar away from home and somebody was calling my name.Soon we all forgot about the rain even when we were getting really soaked but talking about geocaching with an Ozzie was far more interesting especially when Mick handed us a bag full with bugs and coins over.Thank you all very much for this wunderfull day and we will drop the TB this week here in Holland. And Mick&Kaz hope you find more nice caches like this one.

This was one of the longest treks I have done for a cache lately but by far the most beautiful. The wildlife here never ceased to amaze me in our 2 day stay here at the NP, not to mention the scenery, Thanks for bringing us here TNLN SL
Thanks Deathtrip for adding a new logbook, we appreciate the maintanence from geocachers
Found this one while on camp with the Biloela Scouts. Surprisingly, it took considerable time to find as my GPS was way off for some reason. The cache was excellent and had the qualities I hope caches offer. THANKS!
GandT, I left a new log book and the cache looks in good shape.
Thanks,
Deathtrip

First of all, could the next visitors to this cache please supply a notebook of some sort. The log sheet is completely filled up now.
Fantastic day for a walk in the gorge. Recommend some mozzie repellent, I noticed that mine was missing from my kit when I needed it at the Moss Garden.
The cache location offers an excellent view that you would miss if you stuck to the track.
For new visitors to Carnarvon, I highly recommend the bluff trail to the lookout, that starts back near the carpark.

Thanks Liz and Bruce for replacing the container. We are currently travelling in WA and are too far away for maintainence. Glad you enjoyed the gorge
Picture book perfect almost - some damage from the Feb 07 storm evident. Found the cache after searching around for a while. We replaced the container with one we had bought along. Really enoyed this gorge-ous area. Thanks for the cache. TNLN
Found it while on a camp with cub scouts but we were helpers
Thanks for this cache GandT Beautiful and smart place for where you put it!!!
Could see where it flooded previously.
Thanks,
Cam and Brad
Took:Solar Powered Mozzie repeller
Left:Emerald Junior Golf Membership card, bullclips, pen lid and a golf marker.
PS: May need to be Maintenanced after container cracked near the lid.

Found easy After geowife said she would sit at a nearby seat.
Found pen didn't work. I had one in camera bag which i had left with Geowife, only to find she kept going along track. Had to run after her with cache in hand to fill out log.
Took cache for a little trip to moss garden and to hellhole gorge
Container needs replacing due to rock pushing lid down and spliting sides a little. Cache dry despite rain earlier in the year.

Had to turn a lot of rocks to find it. Snakes are a real concern in this location though didn't see any. Cache in good shape though pen doesn't write. TNLN.
All gorge walks had been closed the previous day when a helicopter was ferrying building materials in, so we had to defer our search until today.
Initially lost satellites and spent quite a while checking various likely places. Reluctantly we were about to give up when Trev got on top and down into a crevice where he spotted it.
Cache is still in good condition. Took Hummer and left solar powered torch/whistle/keyring. Thanks GandT.

Not found. Too hot, too much flies, too much stones to look at, too afraid for snakes...

After a diversion up to Blackall it was fairly easy to choose where to go next. Stopped in at the Tourist information centre in Springsure after bushcamping the night at Claude River and picking up the cache at Minerva.
Just as well as I did as there was only 1 site available for the whole week and only for one night. So we hot footed it down to Canarvon Gorge and set up camp.
Got all the gear together including head torches in case we spent too long searching and had to return in the dark. Its is definately a spot that requires more than one day to explore but as we had come for a cache it would do us.
The actual find was a bit of an anticlimax as the GPSr took us to a rocky knoll. We put the packs down did a quick scan of the area and chose the spot I would put a cache. Went over lifted a rock and there it was. It has a blue lid not a green lid. The rock is actually a little larger than I would normally assume a cache was under and the cache has been moulded out of shape by the weight and the heat.
So its there and the area is a must to visit. Book in advance if you actually want to stay as we were very lucky. The National Parks site must be booked and payed for in advance on line and they will not let you stay unless you do so.
We took a keyring and left a toy car.
Thanks for the hunt.

Rated: for Overall Experience
Had a look for this cache, but didn't find it easily (the GPS wouldn't give a reliable fix, and there were too many places to look). To be honest, I really wanted to spend my time exploring the beautiful gorge and side gorges! Great location which is highly recommended a vist.
I didn’t find it but only out of my own planning inadequacies. (I didn’t actually leave my self enough time to look for it and also get home before the fall of night and the inevitable influx of Kangaroos onto the road and had to leave before the mission was accomplished.). I will return one day soon and give it another shot.
A note to prospective cachers… When I looked at the map prior to attempting this cache I did notice a fairly lengthy section of unsealed road. Well I can report that it’s about 25 km long and if you drive a car like mine with limited ground clearance and fairly stiff suspension, consider how much time it will take you to travel this road. I was lucky to get above 30 kph. It took me ages. The road is passable to passenger cars… you just have to be prepared for a fairly lesuireley pace. About 80% of the cars in the car park at the end of the road were 4WD’s which says it all.
All this aside it looked like a top place for a cache and I look forward to my return here to nab the booty.

yep, the trees had been felled and area burnt when we hid the cache. With the possibility of future fires in mind I hid the cache out of fires way (I hope!) in amongst the rocks - hopefully it should still be there [^]
We found the area OK on the way to one of the popular "mossy" destinations.
I tramped all over the hill, the coords led me to the top of the large rocky outcrop.
No luck.
The area appeared to have had trees felled and showed signs of previous wooden structures and burning.
As we had come from Victoria and had to move on, we will have to put this one down as a failure
