Due earthquake damage to the reserve and closed access, this cache is now a goner.

Could only find two photo spots, but this was enough (not too complicate calclulation...). Wandered around and enjoyed the first warm day for ages, the cache was a bonus. TFTC

(395) I worked this one out quite some time ago with Freepetrol, but had never been able to find.. Anyways finally found it tonight with a little help from Freepetrol.. TFTC, SL.

Hmm, wandered around for a while gettings the locations sorted out then stuffed the maths up (again, twice today. Oh dear!). However, the owner happened to be home so sorted it out and back to the cache. I was only about 30m out but it does make a difference! Lots of ducks and a few geese around today and a few families giving them something to eat. TNLN Thanks.

20-May-10
Took me a while to work it out. Good idea of using the photos and distances. Amazed the cache hasn't been removd by worker muggles.

06-Jan-10
Found using the old photos that I printed out many months ago. TFTC

Found spot after a bit of hunting around for the photo locations. Recommend coming in from location of the first photo to locate the cache. Picked up TB to move on

A great day to be out caching, I have eyed this cache many times, so today was the day to have better look lol. I managed to locate 3 of the photo,s and yes some things have changed a little but you still get the idea. The final was a nice easy find just as the sun was setting, I have taken some new photo,s and have loaded them on , It you disagree with loading these photo,s I will remove them. as people still seem to be able to find this cache , they just have to work a little harder..lol which is what caching is about sometimes.. And thanks BaldEd for all the work you have put into this cache it was great.. .Cheers Bo

17-Apr-09
Found photo 4 quickly, and photo 2 an hour later... Walked around the western lake without matching anything, there were council workers doing landscaping at the time so I guess the scenery is changing. Maybe future cachers can take new photos of the same scenes?
Decided to hunt for cache with only two photos, and was surprised to actually find it, 5-10m from my first guess. Swapped geocoins. Thanks for the 'tour' of this wildlife pocket.

15-Feb-09
Didn't know how we'd go with this one given that we don't really know the area. However, managed to find cache without locating Photo 1. Things have changed a bit since photos taken so found quite challenging! Dropped off geocoin.

Found on second attempt. (learning a few new tricks along the way now). TNLN TFTC

New logbook in place.

08-Jan-09
Hi BaldEd - Will need new log book for this cache as have now run out of room in current one.
(didn't have one on me or I would have left it).

Cheers.

Found on our second visit! & 5 year anniversary of cache too! Tried to allow for changes in scenery over that time when matching up the pictures. Great cache concept & weather today was very pleasant - without the wind on our first visit 2 weeks ago. Very peaceful location to go walkabout & definitely worth repeat visits. Thanks.

What a difference a day makes!
After our DNF yesterday, we consulted the photos on-line, and decided that all 3 waypoints we found were indeed OK. After studying google terrain maps, StreetWalkerNZ determined the 4th waypoint. With the aid of a ruler, he decided that GZ was slightly south of the main focus of our search - but I distinctly remember him searching this area. Because there were not that many hiding places, I assumed it had been thoroughly searched.
On our return today, it was in the first place I looked! Some descriptive language followed.
An enjoyable cache. Thanks.

#400 (first of a Bald Ed trifecta). This one looked like a nice cache to bring up the 400. Spent quite some time looking for this one yesterday, after finding Superheroes 1 to be out of action, and completing 5 other caches. Photos on the PDA were tricky to sea due to glare. Eventually we were certain we found one WP, pretty sure about another, and had a fair idea about a third. Spent quite a while searching, but to no avail.

Studied google maps when I got home and identified where the remaining photo was taken. Got a ruler out and applied it to my computer monitor, and worked out where the cache was (somewhere on the fringe of where we were looking, which I was sure I had searched). Called back in today en route to Rangiora, and Troodles had it in hand straight away.

Nice cache to bring up the 400 (not many of these in and around Chch).

We spent a long time on this one. After much to-ing and fro-ing, thought we had found 3 of the 4 waypoints (the site of photo 1 proved elusive), but it was hard to judge if 2 of these were correct, the photos were hard to see on the PDA, plus were unsure how old the photos were and how much growth etc to allow for.
Despite an ever expanding search area, no cache was found.

18-Jul-08
I think that we accurately found the location of two of the photos and found an approximate location for a third photo.
A very nice reserve.
Thanks

After two failed attempts over a year ago, we were finally successful. Identified two photos, then managed to find the cache after a bit of searching, assisted by nzcoozer and family. Immediately afterwards pinpointed a third photo! TFTC

I was thankful there was another cache in the vicinity of the final of Tour de Kaiapoi to give my sore bottom a rest from those really awful bike seats.

I triangulated using the four waypoints to close in on the GZ and then hunted for about 4 minutes under each tree in the vicinity. I was glad my methodology worked.

The next cache is now 3.5 kms back towards Kaiapoi township and a well-earned beer.
Cheers for the cache.

Another nice spot that we would have driven passed if it wasn't for Geocaching. Found it with only 2 photos, we couldn't work out where the others were taken from, our print out was to small and b&w.

Great find by mini-muffin II, thought like a cacher and there it was.

Checked on the cache. All OK. Spring growth may have changed some of the photos slightly but main identifying objects are still apparent. Dropped off Murphy's Paw TB.

29-Nov-07
Have had two attempts at this cache. Found three of the waypoints that have lead to the same location but no luck in finding it.

23-Jun-07
Found this one a few months ago and was very surprised to see that it appeared on my closest not found list. I guess I forgot to log it! Took a couple of attempts and found without locating all WPs. Cheers Ed!

10-Apr-07
Tried 2 days to find this. The first day with BW photos. Had another look at the coloured photos on the computer that night and tried again the following day but still could find only one WP. Maybe next time we visit Chch we may be more lucky.

09-Apr-07
We struggled a little with this one, but only because the photos I had were very poor and black and white! Went for a stroll around the area and confirmed Two WPs. Luckily these two WPs led to only one location, useing the distances from them it created a line which led to a narrow search area, therefore the cache was quickly found. Really enjoyed this cache so will be doing the "Kaiapoi Historic Geometry Cache" tomorrow. Thanks BaldEd for a very cool unique cache [^]

Lytteltonwitch was much better than I at finding the pictures. Took us a long time to find the first couple. We were getting very hot and tired by the time we had them all. A quick calculation and we were off to find the cache which we found remarkably quickly. What a beautiful spring day it was. We could almost see the trees greening up with new leaves during the day.
Left a TB and a car took a coloured stone.

10-Sep-06
That took a bit of work finding the photos.Finding the cache itself was much quicker.

29-Aug-06
Checked the cache this morning. All okay.

27-Aug-06
Great day for wandering around in the sun. Found 3 of the 4 photo locations even though the trees were bare of leaves and looked slightly sadder than the photos.

Spent quite some time fossicking around in the spot but with no luck.

Have now come home and used satelite photos to confirm we were looking in the right area and we were. We'll have to try again another day and look a little harder.

19-Mar-06
We had a black and white print-out from 2004, sure makes things a little harder!
Somehow.. (!?) we managed to find the cache with just one waypoint though. After searching for all of the others with no results, decided to try our luck. Using the clue and by elimination, we narrowed down the possible area, and being the right distance away, the treasure was found!
Nice area here, quite a few muggles out with dogs or just sitting at the picnic tables watching the birds..
TNLN, thanks for the cache. =)

Mr Buzz loved this cache but Mrs Buzz was less enthusiastic. Found it using waypoints 2,3, and 4 only although we did cover a fair distance trying to find them.
Thanks Bald Ed for the geometric challenge.

Now this poor old cache had been rather lonely - no visits for over 5 months!! So I went out and found WPs 3 and 4 in a few minutes, and thought "Oh, this should be easy now". After going to the first intersection, and realising that was quite wrong, I tried the other point. Searched for some time without success - then went off to find WP 1 (never managed to locate WP 2 at all). With three points "Now it should be dead simple". But no, I searched and sweated in the afternoon heat, muttering words under my breath about the cache-setter that wants me to get horrible prickly bits down my neck!! No luck, so I Exported myself back into Kaiapoi to get something cold and refreshing, then went back out and read the notes all over again. This time, I did find the cache - in a spot I'd searched before - my hand must have been right on it earlier without me noticing. All evil thoughts immediately evaporated, as I knew it was my own silly fault.
Thanks BaldEd for a nice humbling challenge. No swaps, cheers from Grandalf.
PS. Knocked on your door but you weren't home.

we found the cache with two travel bugs Wild Hairy Haggis and the yellow 4*4 jeep. They will both be having a trip overseas at the end of the week!!

01-May-05
Found it on 3rd attempt. First time it rained and was very cold so we gave up pretty quickly. At second attempt we found photos 3 and 4 but had only a black & white printout and could not find the other WPs. So today we were 3rd time lucky. Dropped in TB Jeep and TB Wild Hairy Haggis which were grabbed straight away by our friend Sez who we had just introduced to Geocaching.

Thanks for this challange!

We went to this one from Silica City.. found photos 3 and 4 fairly quickly but our instruction sheet was printed in Dec. 2003 and 2 of the photos have been upgraded since then.. Found a possible site for photo 1 and tried to find the cache. We ran out of time.. (Guests coming for dinner) so decided to come back another day... with the latest print out it "should" be easy... Yeah right.

Lovely wee sport for a cache. Tried to find it yesterday, but only found two of the photo spots. After thinking about it overnight, found the other two photo sites within 30mins. Once it was all together, the cache was easy to find. A GPS would have helped.

Found it this time (with Janet), using an actual GPS - only found photos#3 and #4 though, the others being a bit obscure. Cache in good condition and excellent position. Thanks. TNLN

The Bear_Left family needed a walk to burn off some Christmas dinner kilojoules, and this was now the closest unfound cache to home that didn't require special equipment, as well as one in a nice location for a walk.
We found photo4 first, then saw something that led us to photo3. With those in two GPSrs, we walked to the first intersection, then to the second when that turned out to be in open ground.
A bit of searching in likely spots finished when Mama Bear looked for the sort of hideyhole favoured by BaldEd and was rewarded with a plastic box.
We had a picnic tea by the lakeside, then headed home in the long twilight.
Took tape measure, left dolls clothes pegs.
Thanks for the reason to walk around this pretty spot, Eddie!

08-Nov-04
Found two points, wandered past the location, noticed that the distances were correct, and had an unsuccessful look.
Did a bit of a wander, finding the other two points, then came back a lot more certain of the location. Very well hidden! No swaps.
Thanks again!

Last cache for the night, and having just done Historic nearby, I was all in tune for another geometry cache. Found a couple of the waypoints easily, and then started the hunt. I must have just been out on one of my readings as it was telling me I should have been closer to the road. In the end I thought like a hider, went to the obvious and soon found it. No exchange made. Thanks for the cache Ed! Cheers Gav [281]

The photos are still valid. The cache is still there. Note added re the bird nesting area.

19-Sep-04
My mum and Elizabeth Burtt tried to find this one too. There appears to have been considerable landscaping and new planting (due to a new subdivision) in the area. The photos may not be as valid anymore.

More importantly, there were "Birds nesting - keep out!" signs in the area. Perhaps this cache needs to be disabled until after the spring?

Fun times had, anyhow. Thank you.

20-Dec-03
Started this one on the Friday evening while on the way home. I'm still learning to use a GPS so I thought I would just practice.
With black and white pictures printed out at the library it was hard to match up the places. Found 2 and then retreated home as it was getting dark.
Returned Saturday evening and with a bag of smelly dog poo, an excited spaniel in one hand and a GPS in the other I hunted for the other two pictures. I only found one, but decided to give triangulation a go. Don't know how to trianglate on a GPS (can it be done?) but paced out the distances and shuffled around till I got close enough and found the treasure!
can't remember if I exchanged anything
Thanks Balded for the great fun

Popped out tonight to have a look. We never knew this area was there so it was very interesting. Found 3 of the photos quite quickly and converged on the cache. After finding the cache we used the distance to find the last photo. We both really enjoyed this cache. Thanks BaldEd.

Could not resist the cherry popping attempt on this cache. Was a little surprised we were the first ones there as we did not head off until late morning. After finding two locations I started searching in the area where their circles intersected, but it was not until Bernadette found a 3rd point of intersection was the errors reduced enough to actually find the cache (Bernadette searched in the correct place)
Great location, we have never been to this area before. Was a fantastic day, we wished we had a picnic. No exchange
Cheers
