My last visit to Melbourne earlier this year, saw me run out of time to grab this one and alas, I must return to Brisbane without it ticked off.. No problem I thought, I'll be back soon enough and can take an early morning walk to have a crack... [^]
Little did I know that in the mean time, someone would throw a spanner in the works and the cache would be archived... Bugger... I made contact with the CO and conversation turned to permission to log the cache as I had the pre-requisite info and final coords.
Well, that's might kind of you and far be it from me to knock back an offer like that...
So, after a big day on the trails today with Lochb, Bexta, quiet1_qu, Long John Silva and QueenK8, I was strolling back to the hotel at 1130pm and virtually visited this one...
A neat idea for a multi, I'm sure there are equally as many similar ideas that can be introduced. I look forward to a potential V2 sometime... [^]
Cheers Biggles Bear.

After Tramtracker finally catching me up to the tram near GZ, I got on. The tram has a red Web-jet livery at the moment. However, as the Metcard phaseout is complete, this tram was devoid of any Metcard related items.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, especially just after finding this cache, but I've been noticing that some of the old ticket machines have been removed from trams along the #86 line. It seems reasonable that ticket machines have been removed from other trams as well... A genius puzzle, glad I got the chance to solve it, but I think it needs a restructure now.
Got it this time. Took another of my companions along, and that was all it took - she definitely had the sharper eyes that were needed to nab it. Especially good considering that this was her first geocaching experience!
Coordinates were only about 2m out in my experience (well within tolerance), and the cache is still OK - though the log is a bit damp. Not too bad for a cache that hasn't been touched much for months!
Cheers for the 3am fun (yes, 3am - I was restless and needed to catch up with said companion, who I hadn't seen for months either!) Favourite point incoming when I get a couple more

Curses. I've worked out the coordinates (and correctly, if the logs are anything to go by) but an abundance of rocks and the fact that time was not on my side today meant I had to slink away from this one. A strategic retreat, however, rather than a resignation of defeat - I am determined to nab this clever cache!
Nope! Glad to report that the ticket machine is still there, albeit not usable. Which means the serial number is still there! I will be solving this one soon and finding the cache in no time.
Good points brought up by all, though. Surely the machines won't last long on the trams, especially since they are redundant now. New puzzle, perhaps? Because this is a very clever idea of a cache.

Thanks CJ-Curry, for confirming the ticket machine is still in place and the serial number is still visible. We are currently out of town and were unable to confirm this ourselves.
This one will now need adjusting to cope with the introduction Myki.
Hope you can find a suitable alternative way to keep it alive.

Not such a quick find for me but a wider search overcame the limitations of the phone. It was time to get this out of the way while the machine remained in situ. There are signs plastered all over town saying "No Ticket Sales On Trams after December 29". More than just a mythical prediction unlike the Mayan Calendar prophecy.

We thought we'd better get on to this one because it may soon be no more. Once we had the co-ords we thought we would save it for a day when we needed a cache nearish home. Took the doggie for a walk. We were having mo luck then read a few logs. One said co-ords were spot on and that wasn't helpfu. Some older ones said widen the search and pretty soon drjim7 was rejoicing. I hope this one can outlast the change in ticketing system. TFTC.
I read about this multi a few weeks ago and realised I'd better get a wriggle on before the Metcard machines are removed from trams. I happen to live right off Riversdale Road, near Tooronga Rd. So whenever I was walking along the route I'd see if I could see the tram. Finally one morning I saw it, but I was in my car. Then yesterday, I spotted it again about the same time, but going in a different direction and I was on the wrong side of the street. So this morning I decide to get out to the shops at about the same time. Wouldn't you know it, the tram was there all right, but on the other side of the road! I watched it go past the depot, then went home, got online to the tram schedules and figured out when it would pass by again in the opposite direction. But then I got distracted with my work and missed the time! So back online, to find when it would reach the other terminus and find its way back. So out I went about 2pm and waited, and waited. There was an unusually long gap between trams. But in the distance, a tram with graphics on the front was getting closer. YES! The Opera tram had returned. I got on, got the required info and was off at the next stop, and walked home.
Before dinner, I jumped on my bike and off to GZ I went. I went straight to an obvious position, a quick fossick turned up a yellow screw top container. Funny, I didn't remember that. I opened it up to find an IV kit. Not good, closed it up, put it back. Then read the description and after a stupid amount of time (luckily, nobody around) I came up with the proper container. Thanks for the adventure, Biggles Bear!
It's funny, when I tell muggle-friends about caching, they often ask straight away if they can be hidden on trams or trains. I hope you find a way to implement something similar on a tram only outfitted with myki readers. (I thought of looking for suitable number-generators on 2024, but there were too many pax).

After finding a cache outside the MCG yesterday I made my way to Wellington Parade to catch a tram back to Federation Square. Thanks to some good timing tram 2024 happened along plying its trade on route 75. I jumped on board, touched on using my myki card, and grabbed a seat across from the ticket machine. After noting down the number I disembarked at Flinders Street.
I worked out the final coords over a cold beer later in the evening and made plans to fit a trip out to GZ into today's activities. Made a journey out to the final location late this afternoon to look for the cache which I soon spotted it after a short search, the logsheet was a little damp but I was able to sign ok.
Probably not one most tourists would put on their list to do while in town, but it's the kind of cache I really enjoy doing. As the previous log says it will need some re jigging done to it if it's gong to continue after the 29th Dec. I really hope this is possible. I have placed it on my watch list to see what transpires.
A great cache, without doubt the favourite find of my 4 days in town. TNLN SL TFTC

Really enjoyed this cache from finding Tram 2024 outside the Melbourne Aquarium to the GZ in a special little place we didn't know existed. The Tram is now painted with an ad for Madame Butterfly so it seems to have a colourful career.... Thanks for setting this cache up.

On the way into work this week there was a timely reminder that this cache was at risk of becoming impossible with the demise of the metcard and the removal of the ticket machines from the trams at the end of the year. With that in mind this cache was pushed to the top of the list.
From previous logs I knew I was on the lookout for a New Zealand liveried tram but the 70/75 was not my usual route home.
The following night having been out for drinks with work colleagues on Collins St I found myself waiting at the tram stop at Market Street & Flinders when out of the blue the tram pulled up heading in the opposite direction. A quick dash across the tracks much to the surprise of my colleague and all aboard for the ticket machine. Jumped out again at the Aquarium and across the tracks back for the tram I'd previously been waiting for and my rather bemused work colleague. Talk about fortuitous chance.
Tonight was the time to collect. A fantastic fig tree distracted me from the search so after a few photos back on with the hunt. The GPS was bouncing about quite a bit and I thought I'd be searching forever but once it settled down the coords were spot on.
The cache was a little damp possibly due to dirt in the seal, so I dried and cleaned out as best as possible.
Thanks for an unusual cache and I look forward to see how this one can be saved for next year.

Found 2024 near Melbourne aquarium in flinders st after off an on looking for a couple of days. It is now advertising new Zealand. Next day took another 75 to near GZ. Caution some bees have a hive nearby but luckily on the wrong side of the rocks . TFTC TNLN log is a bit damp. Paul and Brenda.
I did the initial part of this cache about a month ago. I stood on a cold, rainy and windswept tram stop on Flinders Street for about an hour waiting for tram #2024 to come past. When it finally turned up, I bounded on in great anticipation and headed straight for the ticket machine. Then I collapsed into a cosy seat out of the draught and went for a ride to nowhere in particular just to warm up!
Today I was on my weekly Saturday caching expedition and the weather was much more pleasant. I was surprised by the lovely park at GZ and the container was quickly located. I took a TB out to move on and left nothing but a signature.
Thanks for a very memorable cache Biggles Bear, this one gets my cache-of-the-day award and a favorite point. One last thing - the logbook was very damp, you might want to check on it next time you're in the area.

I have had the information from the tram for a while now, from a meeting in the city several months ago when I had boarded the tram in Spencer St. Knowing that these machines have possibly a limited lifespan now, I thought I would head out today and try and find the final. A great location for GZ, thanks Biggles Bear for the cache.
Living on route 75 made this an even more frustrating escapade. The 2024 sailed past on quite a few occasions when we weren't able to jump on it due to prior commitments, tiredness or the inability to cross the road in time. We were also foiled a number of times by the similarly decorated 2100 which I now sneer at whenever I spot it.
While dining along the route we'd discovered that if we saw the tram going one direction, it came back in 20 minutes. After dinner we waited in some very unpleasant weather for it to return from the other direction but gave up after half an hour.
Yesterday we were lucky enough to spot it going in the shorter direction so sat and waited the 20 minutes and finally caught it. I jotted down the number and we alighted at the next stop.
Once home I tried to work out the coordinates, but over-excitement meant I tried it four different ways that didn't work before I read the instructions slowly and carefully and came up with a sensible result.
We caught a tram out to GZ (joking that it would be the 2024, but it wasn't) and spent a good 20 minutes in the cold and rain looking for the cache, which probably should have only taken 5 minutes to find.
I drained some water out of the cache, signed the log and dropped off the tram travel bug.
Favourite point for instigating epic adventures.

Now this was a cool adventure. I finally caught the tram which now has a lightblue Medibank paintjob on it not red. It was at flinders and spring st route 75. I had been hunting for hours combined for this tram. When should I find it but by total fluke crossing the road rushing for a late appointment. What did l do. I ran the sucker down tftc.
Just updating my log. This Tram is now messing with me. Since hunting like mad for weeks. I have now seen it 3 times that l have crossed Route 75 just at Jolimont station. Dam you Murphy's Law!!!!

Well, this story starts.. hmm.. about 22 months ago.
I was playing in the 2009-2010 GCA moving cache race and there was a cache that had just arrived from interstate to the grounds at the MCG.
I hopped on my bus to the city, and hopped on a tram, turned on my gpsr and thought:
What was that tram cache again? A-ha, Smart Array, must keep an eye out for this tram. What number line is it usually found on.. hmm, I'm on that line now.. What was that tram number? OMG! This is 'THE' tram!!
Stupidly, I hopped off once I reached the MCG...
As I don't really cache out this way, I held onto those co-ordinates for all these months and even made note in my gsak some other information to assist with logging, below:
"Caught tram at ~S37 49.147 E144 57.698
Arrived on tram 70 at approx 9.30am 30/1/10 travelling to the MCG to pick up a MCR cache. Remembered that there was a cache to do with the tram, looked up the details on the gpsr, and realised that I was sitting in that very tram unexpectedly!"
Caching with lochb and coley_babee prior to the Liz and Bruce event, we came nearby, and after some asking (read begging) to swing past GZ so I can cross it off my list. FINALLY! Whoo hoo!
Thanks Biggles Bear for this adventure!

Although GMelb works very close to the 75 tram route he was not aware of this cache until the GPS registered this on a recent caching trip to the eastern edge of town. Checked the VICSIG website to see what the current paint job/advertising was which revealed an easily recognisable tram. After a few days watching on the way home from work he caught the tram only to find later he had taken down the wrong numbers after incorrectly reading the cache page. Finally I caught the tram again at Southern Cross station, heading North on route 75. Got the co-ordinates and found the cache a few days later without any incident. A wonderful idea turned into a great cache.

13/10/11 3:33 PM Find #497 - I found the tram I needed outside Southern Cross using tram tracker the other day at lunchtime, got clue and here I am cache in hand after a ride on another route 75 tram. I've been past here a few times before not knowing what was hidden behind a medium size rock - nice park. This is one of the oldest caches I've found which is great that its survived this long. Now for the ride home, via Pridmore Park. TFTC Biggles Bear.
We had pulled out of the driveway before I realised I'd left my wallet in the house. Arrgh! Oh well, doesn't matter, won't need any money (or the Myki inside it) as we're only going out for a while. Half way down Burwood Hwy what do I see - that elusive 2024 for the first time!! No money, no Myki, what do we do, oh well only have to go 1 stop so leapfrog the tram and drop me off while mrs laurenda drives to the following stop. Moments later I'm on the tram at the ticket machine and write down the s/n just in time to get off at the next stop. Didn't pay but it's Seniors week so it would've been free travel with the Myki anyway. Solved the puzzle but GZ was a bit out of our way so have to wait for another day for the cache. Glad to've finally got that bit out of the way - it's been bugging me for months! Thanks Biggles Bear - a hunt with a difference.
Found today at 11.45am by Mrs80. This was annoying us as we don't use public transport and we don't live on this side of town so had set up friends and family who do to keep an eye out for this one - we had even told them what the current paint job was to make it easier. So when we got an answer and saw where it was Mrs80 decided today was the day. After a few minutes of searching the container was located the log signed. TFTC Biggles Bear

The geoson was home sick today, so I had to spend the day with him doing the dad thing. I had some time to try my hand at a few puzzles. I had gained the information for this one a few days ago so the son and I decided to go an pick it up before we went to pick his sister up from school. We arrived at GZ to find a very curious elderly muggle sitting on the bench nearby. As we searched he bacame a lot more interested in us. I tried to stare him down to see if he would mind his own business, but we eventually gave up and we left to return later in the hour. The old man had gone so after a quick proper search the cache was found and signed. Thanks Biggles Bear.

Finally I can cross this off my list. It has been on the "keep a look out for" list for 3 months now. It all started 3 weeks after I started geocaching when I read up on this cache. I decided to keep a look out for this elusive tram 70 and tram 75 with the tram number 2024. For 3 months, I kept looking out for it, looking at every single tram number that passed by hoping that it would be, but no joy. The closest I ever saw was 2023 and 2025. Even asked my mates who frequent those tram routes to keep a look out for me.
The day came when I had a meet up with CamBendy in our attempt to grab another cache thats been teasing us for some time now, the Southbank cache. After seeing the stream of muggles coming from every direction, more so in the bar opposite, we decided not to compromise that one. After chatting for some time, we decided to part ways and I went on my way to a dinner up at Grattan St. On the way after crossing the traffic lights past Flinders st, I FINALLY saw the tram. It was still covered in green advertising for Bank of Melbourne as noted in the logs below. I ran back across the road (thankfully it was still green) to the tram stop and jumped onto the tram. Immediately, I whipped up my phone and snapped a photo of the serial number after which I jumped off the tram again. I was ecstatic with my luck that day.
Left the solving of the puzzle for the weekend when I requested some help from a previous finder on how it works. He gave me some help and I got the coordinates and verified that it was correct. Today, seeing that I had an hour after classes and lunch before the next class began, I decided to take a quick walk to GZ. Walked and turned off the wrong street and it wasn't halfway down when I realised. That had already wasted 15 mins of my time. By the time I reached GZ it was already 5.10pm and I had class at 5.30pm. I hurriedly began to search and eventually found it after 10 mins. GPS had not been much help because of the tree cover. After signing the log, I took off and decided to tram back and then continue my walk home. So I got on and the tram headed in another direction. I did not realise I took the wrong tram! It was only after 10 mins that I realised. No wonder the place did not look familiar to when I had come. Cursing, I stopped at the next stop and walked to the correct tram stop to get home. I was late for class by 45 mins but was still happy to be able to get this cache out and done with. TFTC Biggles Bear

I found this one today with Irontoad. Nice easy find in the darkness which added a bit of challenge to this one.
I had been working in the city recently and had kept an eye out for this tram but everytime I looked it wasn't there! Finally after being held up in traffic and waiting for something to finish so I could go in for the meeting that I was late for - I looked outside and went there was the stupid tram! I raced down the road and actually caught it at the stop that you said to look for it on. It was running route 75 on that afternoon. I then borrowed the pen of the person sitting by the ticket machine - got the required information and raced back to where I was meant to be! Made it on time but only just! Of note the tram is painted dark colours and is currently advertising Bank of Melbourne.

At last!!!!found it after 3rd attempted. Had solved the puzzle some time ago but in the wrong place at GZ. Recheck my mathematic. Should be here somewhere...wide search.. yay!

Thanks for this fun game and cache.
Well I used some technology, but I found the tram about 3 weeks ago on Route 75 at the Landsdowne Street stop. The numbers were gathered and transcribed - although at first not all the requirements seemed to be met. After approaching the transcription differently all the numbers clicked into place, I checked the locale on Maps and filed it away for a week or two.
I was in the area a week ago and I thought I'd seek the cache - but I didn't have the final coordinates with me - I'd picked up the wrong set of notes and I only had some pre-calculations with me. I thought maybe I could find this by an approximation of the area I'd seen on Google Maps but no - I arrived at the place and wandered aimlessly...not really expecting anything - not even sure I was in the right place!
But today - I had the true figures with me, had my GPSr with me, turned it on and walked straight to the cache; it was right in the first place I looked.
Rather a nice day for a cache. And I enjoyed the full adventure (I doubt that I've caught a tram with quite so much excitement for about 40 years!). Took nothing, Left nothing. TFTC.

The fourth find for the day. OK, I admit it, I haven't seen this tram. I had incredibly easy access to the info I needed: Dad! My dad works for the transport ticketing company (no, not MyKi, the other one), so I asked him to get the serial number at work. That night he got it along with a bunch of other info that I didn't need. The Array part of it was hard as I didn't completely understand what to do, but I got it eventually. I didn't know if my coords were good, so I asked a previous finder and he said they were right. Just a thought, it might be worth putting in a checker or making the description a bit more clearer, but that was just me. We spent a while at GZ and we were about to give up when I decided to widen my search and found it very soon after. A very nice cache, thanks Biggles Bear (Rated 4 stars with GCVote)
Well this has certainly been work in progress.
I'd trawled Flinders/Spencer Street for many months without any success at all.
While at a recent event I received a tip off on the best way to track this tram in it's travels.
Unfortunately every time for a period of 2 weeks it appeared this particuliar number was out of service.
MMMM, then I became a little stressed when I heard the Govt were thinking of removing the machines from trams.
I had to complete!!
A couple of weeks ago I attempted again and pounced on it at its last stop, took the required details and left.
After quick calculations I found myself near GZ yesterday and was soon logging this great cache.
A fresh logbook too!!

At last! At last! I found it last!
This was certainly the feeling with this cache, as it has been a cheeky one on my 'todo' list for far too long.
As I live on both the 70 & 75 routes, I have been keeping an eye open for said tram for what appears to be WAY TOO LONG.
I managed to eventually catch this tram on April 18 (according to the date on the photos I took) and finally had the info I needed. But then I tried to work out a coord for GZ on my phone and ended up in what can only be described as a heap of trouble, as the array just does NOT make sense when viewed in c:geo on my phone.
Even after all this I finally calculated GZ and went down there with Physics_Teacher in late April. Little did I realise that I had made a transposition error which put us in the correct area, but about 100 meters away.
Finally dusted off the cobwebs on this one, recalculated GZ, saw my mistake, swore quietly to myself and then a quick find, with geokids in tow, was eventually made.
As previously mentioned, the cache container is "a bit wet" inside. I drained it as best I could, logged it, high fived and "punched it out" with the kids, and went home for a well deserved nice cup'o'tea.

It is amazing how sometimes things work out. Today I took a wrong turn whilst looking for a particular cache and saw that another cache was actually closer so headed to do it first. This turned out to be "Skulin cross bones" by biggles bear and I met both of them whilst searching, finding and loggin this cache. We had a chat then I went on my way - to find another 2 bear caches. After a few more I was heading home down Swan St towards Riversdale Rd when lo and behold, tram 2024 comes from Power St right in front of me! I need that tram! Promptly take off after it, it took a few km before I could get past it (traffic and parked cars prevented a quick dive up the inside) and finally got in front, parked and jumped on at S37 49.842 E145 03.077 (between Tooronga and Havelock), walked to the machine, noted the number and got off at the next stop at the depot. Walked back to the car and drove home. Worked out the coords of GZ and after a well earned dinner, headed out again to find GZ in the dark which meant no interference. Found it after a short search exactly as described. Cache was a little wet, the log book could use a dryout. Thanks to Biggles Bear for a great cache.
07/12/2010 12:37 Found: #131 What a marathon! After spending more than 1.5 hours during several lunch times I started to wonder if this tram actually existed! After 'just' missing it one Thursday I saw it again Friday. Jumped off my tram and onto the elusive 2024 and collected the clue. Today went for the ride to GZ TFTC TNLN SL.
NB: Cache was full of water. Log was also a little damp. Emptied out as much water as I could and resealed it.

Find #999. Since we where tight on time I found out where the tram would be before we arrived. I let Spladem out near the tram and he grabbed the needed info and got of at the next block where I picked him up. With the needed info we worked out GZ and planned to be there later in the night. When we arrived we parked hi and walked in to arrive within reaching distance from GZ. A really clever cache. I look forward to stealing this fantastic idea for a future cache of mine. TFTC
Wow, what a great cache idea.. Covert worked out how it was that we could make a find (of the tram) then I did the deed onboard on an otherwise empty carriage. cleaver cache, and hide. tnln, and not a muggle in sight at this early hour of the morning. TFTC Biggles Bear. Find #716
Did this cache in 2 stages a few months apart, turns out the stop that I was tram-spotting from, was the closest stop to the cache I can't give the stop away though. The cache is well hidden, in my search I saw on the nearby park bench a plastic bag full of emptied stolen PSP game boxes - weird stuff.
I caught the magic tram on a Friday morning about 8:25 near Flinders Station, route 75. The final was found quick and easy. TFTC
Wow, what a great idea for a cache! I'd semi-heartedly attempted to catch this tram during visits to Melbourne in the last couple of years but never even spotted it. Two weeks ago, I saw it from the distance. And today, on the way to the city I thought it can't hurt to look for the number of the tram I was on. How amazing that it turned out to be number 2024!!! All the time, I'd lived along the right tram line!
Coords were calculated quickly, and I headed out again tonight to grab the cache.

We finally fluked tram 2024 on our third trip to Melbourne. We hadn't spent hours waiting in Flinders Street but we did note each tram as we passed through the area. Finally . . . The cache was located quite easily once the coordinates were calculated. TFTC
Waited around for about 15 minutes but on a Sunday trams were infrequent so I moved on. I might get lucky before I leave town!
Fortunately live ner the route so was a matter of just keeping an eye out for this one while out and about. Friday night was a winner. LouiseAnn junmped on intending to get the number and jump off at the next stop and be picked up again. Unfortunatley, the tram turned into the depot, so she jumped on anyway shocked the poor driver and jumped off again. Then she had a bit of a walk to next stop. We went and found the cache this morning, also found some poor persons stolen wallet while hunting for the cache - so the police station was added to our waypoints for the day. Thanks for the cache. Great fun.
After an opportunist pick up of the required tram code last night, just as the tram was about to return home to it depot, Pathfinder24 and I nipped out this afternoon to pick up the cache. Under the watchful eye of some old lady muggles we had to wait for them to toddle off with their dog before we picked up the cache. Thanks Biggles Bear, great idea!
we got luck, took the right tram after just 5 mins of waiting.

Found after a couple of weeks! Got the code during a night out in the city and grabbed this cache while in the area on the weekend. Took us a while but eventually found it.
Great geocache, thanks!
Great geocache, thanks!
Started this one about three weeks ago whilst on a hunt in the CBD. We found the tram (a number 75) and then went to a bar called Insignia (cnr King and Flinders) to enjoy some $7 cocktails. We pulled out the photo of the serial number, but the photo had not been saved! No matter, we enjoyed our cocktails for a while longer, and got the tram on the way back through - jumped on, took photo, then off again. Tonight we went out to look for the cache, and it took quite a while! There are so many potential hiding spots! Really enjoyed the idea behind this cache - another winner from Biggles Bear.

A great cache. Ran into the gardner who came up and said 'hi'. I wrote his name in the log and now I have forgotten it! Can the next visitor please have a look and add it here to their log?
He's looking out for it now and doesn't give the final location away. He promised he's sworn to secrecy!

Unlike previous geo mate I had become an obsessive complusive tram watcher. I really started this fetish about 18 months ago while I worked in Carlton but go to the city to do the watching. I then put it on hold for a while when I heard we were going to move to different work premises's, which I thought must increase my chances. I got to see it pass one day as I stepped out in my lunch break but no way could a catch it, so that started back my vigilance in full force. I would spend my lunch time on the pavement, if I needed to go to the post office or bank I be observing everything that moved on wheels. And then it happend, it came along and I could get to the stop in time. Jumped aboard, but what would you think, no writing instrument, thank goodness for the good old lipstick. After being the good little aid to a couple of passengers who were needing change and directions, I happily jumped of at the next stop to dispher the clues. The next step took me to a walk to one of my most favouriate areas in Melbourne and to a path that I did not know about. That pesky gardner was out again doing his job but just ignored me.
Thanks BB for the excellent cache and the discoverying of a new way to enjoy.

Found @ 15:30. I spotted the required tram a number of times and tried on several occassions to jump on board, but it got away from me. Finally it happened to be having a rest at the corner of Spencer and LaTrobe St. when by chance I was at that corner. Clue finally gatherered and GZ worked out. Now some months later I decided it needed to be finished, so went for a bike ride today to get it. While hunting for it, the gardener suddenly appeared and wanted to know what I was looking for. I explained it and he'd heard of Geocaching and was really happy one was hidden in the park he maintains. I'm sure it wil be a safer cache now. TFTC TNLNSL
Now that I'm a compulsive obsessive tram-spotter, I just had to get to this one before leaving Melbourne this afternoon! I managed to find the correct tram after about two months on route 75 about a month ago, and of course made a mistake in 'translating'... Eventually realised the mistake after a hint from another cacher but only had a couple of days left in Melbourne! Got packed in a hurry and managed to pick this up as the last cache in Mel for this time. Very good one! TFTC
Found it after today's flashmob it the City. Found the correct tram by chance the other day on the way to work, and I took a quick photo on board to get the correct didgits. I did the puzzle while sitting at a cafe . And when I jumped on a tram today to find the final location of this one ..... guess what tram number I jumped onto ?!! Weird coincidence !

#997 (2/3 on a scorching Melbourne afternoon). I'd kept on eye out for 2024 on my last visit to MEL in Feb 2008. We also kept an eye out yesterday. Today everybody else wanted to go to the market. As I have a market alergy I decided to do some 2024 stalking in earnest. I headed down to the tram stop on Flinders, just S of Swanston (a good spot as one platform gives access to trams going in either direction). Started waiting about 8AM, and about 15 to 20 mins later 2024 appeared and was heading S. Hopped on for one stop. After meeting up with the others, Troodles and I headed out around midday. Very quiet at the final (only mad dogs and cachers go out in the midday sun), and the cache was quickly found. Thanks for a very inventive cache.
What a great idea for a cache! Unsuccessful yesterday in our search for the tram, but StreetWalkerNZ found it this morning. So it required a special trip to retrieve.

Finally found this one! neoGeneva found the tram & we solved the puzzle some time ago but were looking in the wrong place at GZ. We were only a tiny bit off so were kicking ourselves for not finding it earlier when we finally spotted the cache. Heaps of fun, liked the tram idea - wonder if this will be affected when Myki gets launched though.

I'd been trying to do this cache for quite some time and today was finally the day. I walk or ride past one end of the route 75 line twice a day, but have only seen the particular tram in question twice in the last 6 months. First time I saw it as it was leaving and attempted to chase after it, but got stopped by the lights. Then a few weeks later I saw it sitting there again and couldn't believe my eyes. I got on and took a photo of the needed number. While I was doing so the tram took off, so I hopped off at the next stop.
Then I was looking at the calculations the wrong way, so put it aside for a while, then picked it up again this morning and realised what a simple mistake I'd been making. I was rather keen to go out and get it, so ventured out that way this afternoon. As luck would have it, it didn't take as long to find the container as it did to find the tram. Thanks Biggles Bear, that was a good'un.

#763. Found Tram # 2024 (Route 75) on Monday (September 28) evening, while walking along Spencer Street. It was sitting in its terminus (waypoint coordinates noted above). So boarded the tram and noted the ticket machine serial number. It was an easy find in the end, after trying to spot it for the last so many weeks. Today, we boarded Route 75 (not # 2024) at the published coordinates, after finding the Geometry cache at Federation Square. Arrived at GZ we feared that it wasn't to be an easy find after all. However, having noted the terrain rating, it wasn't long to discover the nice hide, including its brand new log book.

That was a good one. The hint doesn't help much ... you'll see why once you get there. If you're a geek like me I'd recommend using Excel to work it all out if you get the ticket machine number and then head home before going cache-hunting. TSLSSL TFTC!
~16:00 #501 King Snr with King Jnr. We found this cache challenging - first the challenge to find the tram had to be solved - after a bit of research King Snr came up with the serial number - then the array calculated by King Jnr and finally the hunt which in itself was challenging - I felt I had rocks in my head as we wondered around the bouncing arrow. In the end King Snr found the well camouflaged cache. Thanks again Biggles Bear. Out: Magnet In: Something.... why is not in my notes..... hummmm.
AH - this one is going to keep us entertained for a while.
We hadn't read the notes until we got into town and realised that finding Tram 2024 was going to be difficult when we don't deal with trams all that much...so we looked at each tram just in case.
Anyways, we're sitting on the tourist tram heading up to Parliament - I look our the window and there, sitting at the lights is tram 2024. We couldn't get out of our tram to get there and just saw it slide on by.....so sad, so close yet so far away!
We look forward to completing this one!

Tram 2024 was boarded by my wife Trish (aka Madam Dash) on Remembrance Day earlier this week. She caught up with the tram after missing her train stop at Richmond and then continuing to Flinders Street station. She boarded the tram (going in the wrong direction) at the corner of Flinders St and Swanston St (Stop 5). The location was S37° 49.054'S E144° 58.021'. GeoffJ3191 has already reported our visit with his wife Pam on 15/11/2008, but Trish could not make it. She had a French Conversation Class, and on the way home she had to catch a tram. Guess what ... it was Number 2024. This was getting spooky. Trish purchased a two-hour ticket, as I had told her that the Serial Number is printed on these on other trams that I use every day to get to work. Sure enough, the magic numbers were printed there for all to see. So today, after our BBQ birthday celebrations for the original Dashing Dog Mac (the West Highland White Terrier), we went to the cache with our daughter Christine and deposited the two-hour ticket. We did not take any of the items, but we recorded our visit in the logbook. This has been a great journey. Thanks Biggles Bear, we have been tram-spotting for the past two months and are probably now hooked.
I first read the cache notes for this one a year or so ago while planning some cache attempts around the MCG area. From that point on whenever I have seen a tram, I’ve checked the number, not really aware of whether these noble conveyances are free to wander from route to route, or whether they are condemned to voyage up and down their particular route like a version of a modern day Marie Celeste.
I had shared my knowledge of this cache with our friends Ian and Trish (DashingDogMac and Madam Dash) who are the other active Victorian geodashing enthusiasts. They recently moved to live just near the MCG and this gave them ready access to route 75 for tram spotting.
The First Coming
Last week, on Monday 10th November, Ian rang me on the way to work to say that he had been out walking their two West Highland Terriers in Krap Array (keeping in the spirit of the cache) at 6:30am when he saw the ghostly spectre glide down Wellington Parade to the corner of Punt Road, but he was not in a position to do anything about it with the dogs in tow. This was at S37° 49.049 E144° 59.403'
The following weekend, a friend of theirs gave them a contact at the Camberwell Depot who could assist us if required. We now had a contingency card to play if the spectre failed to show itself again in the conventional way.
The Second Coming
The following day, Remembrance Day, Tuesday 11th November, Ian and Trish rang me at about 6:30pm to communicate that Trish had experienced a mystical combination of fate and serendipity. She had been on the way home after work, and so engrossed in her book that he missed her train stop at Richmond station, and had to alight at Flinders Street. This is the only time this has ever happened to her. Her recovery plan was to catch a tram home, when unbelievably; the object of our interest came gliding along, going in the wrong direction. This was at the corner of Flinders St and Swanston st, or Stop 5, for those who know these things.
This location is S37° 49.054'S E144° 58.021'.
Our intrepid Trish leapt aboard to secure the required information, before disembarking at the next stop, Elizabeth St, to catch another tram going back in the direction she needed.
After receiving the number from Trish I sat down and solved the puzzle, and determined the final location.
On Wednesday we pulled together a plan to find the cache on Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning Pam and I picked up Ian (Trish being unavailable as this was her French language study day) and we set off to the cache location. We parked nearby and commenced our search, with Pam finding about 10 minutes later in a position a little at odds with the clue in the description. Nearby there was a magnificent Moreton Bay fig, and this was another case where we wouldn’t have visited this lovely location but for the cache.
As we sat on a nearby seat doing the cache business, we could hear trams rumbling by in the distance and we wondered whether 2024 was involved..

Thanks Biggles Bear - four months after our DNF we came back today and found the newly-replaced cache. We expected an empty logbook, but it appears that it was the original one with all of the old entries... was the cache there all along? Anyway, it's nice to cross this one of our list of unfound "CBD" caches... TNLNSL. Cheers!

I couldn't believe my luck - after the Essendon-Carlton game on Sunday, getting off a tram at Flinders St Station, the very next one to come along was 2024. I jumped on board, grabbed the number, and alighted before it had even moved. Woo-hoo!
BUT... travelled to GZ this morning, and spent a good 30 minutes searching. Nothing! Aaaahhhhhhhhh! I'll be back to try again after I see someone else has found it.

Another long lead time for this cache as I've been on the lookout for this tram since I started caching back in 2004. Probably two years ago we spotted it on Burwood Highway while returning home late one night, car full of tired children. Facitman looked across to Mrs Facit but received the "So you want a divorce?" look so we sailed past the tram. Just after Christmas we were again traveling home along Burwood Highway, but luckily it was during the day and everyone was awake, a couple of set of lights later and we were far enough ahead to pull over and let Facitman catch the tram. He alighted said tram at S37° 51.003, E145° 06.906, right outside Deakin Uni. The plan was for a short trip, to the next stop, but a gentleman trying to buy his ticket using ONLY 5c pieces delayed Facitman's mobilephone camera work until he finally politely asked if he could just reach over and take a photo. Meanwhile Mrs Facit had sailed past the stop which then left Facitman stranded. A quick call and she returned to grab him but it wasn't until today that we found an opportunity to travel by car to GZ for a brief search and find.
Thanks Biggles Bear for an interesting idea and a cleverly named cache. It's good to be finally relieved of the need to check the number of every tram I see (Including many glances over the Camberwell Tram depot fence while heading to the Rivoli for a film)
Took waterproof matches
Left cat toy and sparkle glue

2nd attempt to find this one after gathering the info last time I visited. As it happened there were others in the area I wanted to visit, so I had to check my calculations while out here today. Great cache & well done to the Biggles clan. Took a pin & left waterproof matches. TFTC,

I have been sitting on the solution for this cache for quite a while. Tonight we were doing a few around the city and I talked Chewin' into popping out to get this one. Luckily there was a Macca's nearby (sort of) and he was very hungry
Thanks, Robmc.

It's a good feeling to knock off an oldie - one that was in place before I started geocaching . When I first came across it, I only gave it a cursory glance as there were many that were closer and easier; of course, as time went by, the number of easy ones within 20-30km eventually reduced to zero and I came to reconsider the tougher ones. As it turned out, this one ended up being quite easy for me, as it's only a small detour to follow the tram route from the Burwood Hwy/Springvale Rd intersection to where I work in Hawthorn and, on a day that had 2 new traditional caches near the route, I headed off with eyes peeled for trams . I encountered around 15 trams that morning, but no 2024 until, just as I was nearing the 2nd trad cache (Alansee's "Tram Junction") at the Bridge Rd/Hoddle St intersection, I spotted it heading back the way I'd come.
I had to make a quick decision - do I turn around now, or do I do the trad cache first? I was confident that a GSX750 motorbike would have the legs on a tram, especially in the inner suburbs, so I quickly parked, walked to the cache, found it and logged it and returned to my bike to head off in pursuit . Motor bikes are much faster than trams - and I caught up with it at the Power St/Riversdale Rd intersection and then moved on to the Glenferrie Rd intersection where I parked, waited for the tram, hopped on, got the number and hopped off again while it was stuck at the lights - too easy . I then went to work - just up Glenferrie Rd at Swinburne less than 1km away - very neat bit of planning, I thought .
This morning I nabbed the cache before work - it only took 5 mins, but I think if I'd been doing it back in my early days it would have taken a lot longer as there are a lot of potential (and very enticing) hides around GZ

Thanks BigglesBear - I'm glad there aren't a lot like this, but I do enjoy a bit of variation from the usual sometimes - and I must admit there was a lot of satisfaction and excitement on finding and running down that tram .

Found by djcache and family. GAFF2 I suppose, we read the logs but they don't really help much, it's interesting the trouble some will go to to find a tram.
This cache has been on my to do list since a week after I started caching in Nov 2003. We made a trip to Melbourne and staying not far from the CBD I bagged most of the caches in the area including Geometry but not this one. It's been bugging me ever since.
Every trip to Melbourne that I've been into the city I've watched Flinders St trams to see if I could find 2024. Driving out Burwood Hwy to visit friends I would gaze keenly at every tram we passed. The one time I saw it was near Kmart in Burwood in heavy traffic and going the wrong way. I was tempted to do a U turn over the median strip, gardens and all but Lynne wouldn't let me (why else do we drive 4wds?), and with the traffic as it was I'd probably never have caught up anyway.
On Friday night I went to the MCG and spent the evening in the Members watching Collingwood get narrowly beaten by the Cats. Having planned dinner in the Members Dining Room I'd worn dressy shoes I don't often wear and gained a blister on the walk over from Sth Melbourne for my trouble. Dejected after the loss, and foot sore, I chose to tram it home rather than walk as planned. Imagine my sorrow almost turning to jubilation when after a long wait near the Hilton (no GPS so not sure what the coords are - but corner Gipps & Wellington Pde East) the elusive 2024 pulled up to carry me home!!!
No pen, nothing to write on. What was I to do? Lateral thought kicked in and I got out the JasJam, kicked it into camera mode and took a couple of pictures of the tag with the required information.
I know now a little of what trainspotters must feel like at times. I got a very strange look from a fellow passenger waiting to buy a ticket (something I forgot to do in my haste to get the details...)
"It's a very long story." I said to him with a smile.
"Hey mate, what ever floats your boat." He replied.
I didn't bother trying to explain any further. I just checked to make sure my image was perfectly readable, and saved it for safekeeping.
The next night I worked out the final location. But I really wanted this one to be an approaching milestone - our 250th cache. I was a couple short.
While looking through other new city caches another caught my eye. The Big Game cache by Alansee at the G. The puzzle got me thinking and a light clicked on - or gears turned slowly. In minutes at the kitchen table in Sth Melbourne I had the answer. Two caches at the G. The perfect plan. Lynne just raised her eyes and gave a wifely look that most male cachers have seen from time to time, as I said I was going out at 2230hrs to grab a couple of caches at the MCG.
I was home not long after, mission accomplished. So today we logged our 250th cache. A great cache placed by friends we have come to know through caching trips, and one that has been a very very long time in the finding.
Thanks very much to the two Bears for the challenge.

Spent some time in hospital recently with a tramways ticket inspector. Guess where I got the prelim information for this cache. Then I had to visit an apprentice in Malvern so too the opportunity to find the cache. All done in minutes.
Thanks Biggles team. Glad to finally have this one out of the way.

Your sick the lot of you! I sorted out the maths for chewinprickles at work today, we both went out and found it easily, nice location.
While on winters walking weekend geocaching (www.geocaching) Found in first place I looked. I dont know why every one else is chasing this tram around melboune as I found said tram at the starting co-ords and the rest is history. Signed log but made no swaps. Regards Crisp Image.

I actually got lucky on this cache a couple of months back, or at least a mate did! When I realised he was on the route I set him some homework and he came through with the information I needed. The cache was found today in the second spot I looked, I thought it might take me a lot longer!
Thanks for a very cunning and well thought out cache!

This one has stumped us for awhile but got around to completing the "tram cache' today.A great picnic area around the gz region too. Thanks to Biggles Bear.
Found at 21:15. We were on our way to Toorak and as we drove down Burwood highway what should we encounter stopped at the end of the line, you guessed it 2024. I am so glad that I did not have to chase the tram. Thanks BB for the cache.
This cache has been on the “to do†list for Tooo Long. Around late 2006 I started to get serious in finding this tram and on many occasions I would deviate my travels to search.
I grabbed the street directory and made notes of it’s planned route and also discovered it sometimes headed north of the city, It was now boarding time.
On one particular day I was driving my truck and as I was going past the tram depot I spied the tram leaving on it journey. I was heading north and decided to stop off to see if I could get to it. I parked the truck and ran for the lights, but just as I got there the lights changed and the tram sped off. So close yet so far from what I needed.
It was about a month later that I had my next close encounter near the intersection of Burwood Highway and Middleborough Road. I was driving a slightly lager vehicle today and in a large semi you can see a lot. I pulled up at the lights and at first I didn’t notice the tram number, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks that the 2024 was right beside me. Double dam how do I park this and get to the tram? Easy hazards on and jump from the truck, Oh @#$ its moving and the tram driver is looking at me strangely. I jumped back into the truck and as fast as I could go started to follow it.
Next set of lights, Hazards, jump out and run, missed again, back in and go again.
Another set of lights, same again.
I managed to get beside the tram and I tried to tell the tram driver all I want is a ticket number but the driver is looking at me with a very strange face.
It appears that I cannot get past this tram to head it off and after a long chase and many stops I was beaten and by this stage I was around the corner from my next business stop.
There was a few more sightings after this day and I remember another one in particular. On this day I was heading outbound along Burwood highway and saw a familiar white tram ahead. Sure enough 2024 was tattooed to its paint work and I was sure going this way I could get ahead and get on board. Again I chased it lights by lights and I was sure I would get to Kmart Burwood before it. Nearing the intersection I parked the truck, jumped from it and headed to the tram stop, just as the tram was arriving. Oh @#$ forgot the pen and ran back to grab one, half way back tram starts to leave with me running in hot pursuit yelling stop. By the time I got into the truck and started moving again I needed once again to turn so I decided that it will have to be another day.
Until today there had been more chases but unless I was in a car I was not going to get to it and it seemed unfair to keep blocking roads in a truck on other motorists.
Today was Good Friday and the whole Coffee Clan decided to go into Docklands and look around. We were standing outside the stadium when a promoter started handing out dairy snacks. With a few of these in hand I decided to run these to the car and put them into the fridge for later. I headed to the car and placed them in and started to head back. As I was crossing the Harbour Esplanade I noticed a tram some 200 metres away and squinting I saw some numbers that needed further investigation, No, Maybe, YES! and it was stationary. I had pen and paper. I got to the tram to see the driver was on a break reading the paper and I tapped on the glass. The driver opened the side window and after explaining the 30 second cache explanation of why I needed to get inside the driver kindly obliged and opened the door. I jumped in and at first started to write the wrong information, before the driver helped me to the right spot.
Arriving at the cache GZ it took only a few minutes before the cache was found and logged, it certainly was a “Smart Arrayâ€.
Many thanks to Biggles Bear for one of the best and longest caches we have found, excellent.

3rd find of the day at 7:48am accompanied by Feathertop on our puzzles till we drop expedition, Verry clever and well thought out cache. TNLN, Signed Log. Thanx Biggles Bear....
Well, I finally nabbed this one today! Unlike some people who seem to get it the first time they drive down the route. You'd think, living nearby, that I'd have had it ages ago? Not so - its probably gone right past me several times, but sitting out the front of cafes in Bridge Road did not produce the results. Today I was off to do the same, when I thought I saw it! Trouble was, this tram was in a position wher it was touch and go to get it, but at least it was coming towards me. As it got nearer, I could see - IT WAS IT! The next stop was back about 200m. I ran for a short distance, and then realised, that if the tram didn't stop, and the lights didn't change, I was done for. The tram went past me, and stopped for a passenger. One down. I ran a little more. The tram moved off! But then the lights changed! Yesssss. I still wasn't there though - about 100 metres left to go and a busy sidewalk to get through. One guy with about 8 coffees nearly had to go back for for more, but I managed to get on baord, and the rest is history. Took Badge, left Koala. Thanks Biggles for getting me excited over a tram!
I was in the local area for a few others so I thought I would finally grab this one. BackPAQer played hot and cold with me until I located the tricky hide from a multitude of other possibilites. thanks Biggles Bear.
Dear Biggles Bear,
We found your cache today at 11:50am as the third of eight on our middle of the day cache run. This cache held a record on our caching list till today. The cache that has been most consistantly on our top 20 closest unfound caches to home. Finally after years of checking the number of every tram that goes past every time that we are in the area, we spotted it a couple of weeks ago right at the end of route 75. "H" and I were passing by and I yelled "There it is", which prompted a reply of "What? Where? What am I looking for?" We pulled a U-Turn, got on and got the number just as the doors closed. We had to ride the tram for a stop and get off and walk back to the car. A relatively easy find till today and I didn't realise the xomplete story behind the name till we spoke to Pprass about it about a week ago. Thanks for our 46th Biggles Bear Cache.
Kind Regards,
D & H B-A

When we first started caching just over 12 months ago and saw this cache, we made a promise that we would not cheat!!! Both of us working for Yarra Trams all it would of taken was a phone call to get the required information.
We search for this tram just like everyone else, and low and behold while Thylo was at Camberwell Depot doing his tram drivers training, thyla decided to meet him at the end of his day. She decided to do a run up to Vermont South to look at the new tram extension. Thyla jumped on the tram at Camberwell junction, too busy talking to the driver, then she happened to look up at the tram no 2024!!! grabbed the number off the machine!!!
That night did the calculations, but it would have to wait a few weeks. Then the opportunity arrived when Thyla had to travel that side of town for her nursing placements. One attempt was made in the dark on a wet morning, no luck, then today, had to go to kew, why not detour and do the cache this time with Thylo in tow. Found with in minutes before Thylo had turned GPS on!!!

Thank you BB for such a fun and challenging Cache. Both Thylo and myself love the hidden meaning to the name. Wonder how many others have spotted it.!!!

Not being a huge tram traveller and willing to sit around all day, I decided to think outside of the box (er...tram) and procured the serial number without seeing the tram, nor speaking to a fellow cacher. (how did I do that?) I've been sitting on the final coords waiting for an opportune time to do the cache along with some nearby. Today was the day...so we went and visited Mr Farmer who fed and watered us well. Then we proceeded to GZ and had a good GPS fix but nothing...hmmmm...rang Chefs to indeed make sure that I wasn't on the wrong planet. No...I was indeed in the correct ballpark and on the correct path and everything...I was looking for a screwtop container...which is wrong...it's now a sistema 400ml container with worn-off camo...but still well hidden. From my estimated co-ords I had to venture outside my "comfort zone" for approx 10m before I found the goodies. I must admit...I was kinda expecting a bunch of busts of prominent scientists nearby, similar to the avenue of PM's in Ballarat near Lake Wendouree...but no. Still a good day out in familiar territory (I used to work in the building where the FENIX restaurant is).

This cache has taken us the longest time to complete from when we first started looking for that elusive tram a couple of years ago(this was finally found back in May).Even when we had the number we somehow misinterpreted the instructions and ended up in an area we knew was wrong with out getting out of the car and then another six weeks passed by before we finally got a chance to go to the correct spot, but this was not the end of our problems as we decided that this would be an appropriate cache to leave a white TB Jeep. After about ten minutes of packing and repacking we finally got it in so the lid would shut and the Diane said what about this?, holding up the log book. Doh!!!!!!!, we had to again admit defeat and left TB red bell instead

After looking and waiting for this tram for so long we had to look at the number on it twice as we could not believe our eyes. Finally we found it and could not get on it fast enough! Got the serial number solved the puzzle and we were off. Found the cache in the dark (not recommended) but had a great time.
