Visiting Coober and really enjoying the uniqueness of the location. We made a find here and on request from the owner we have removed this one as he intends to archive it. Thanks Rats for the find.

This cache is almost 20 years old and has well n truly served its purpose of highlighting Coober Pedy. It’s time to put this one to bed.
Thanks to Winglen for grabbing the cache as they passed through town

Sir_spectre and I went on a long overdue holiday to the Northern Territory. We had some great experiences and saw some amazing natural wonders. Not all went to plan - covid closures, flood effected roads, renovations, hot weather, some car troubles and not forgetting the huge jump in fuel costs Smile
Any caches that needed repairs were fixed and numeous logs were replaced or added too.
Thanks to The Rats from mogni Smile

2003 cache. always good to get a old one. quick find. No time for noodling today.

Mogni and myself went to the Northern Territory for a 10 day holiday. We drove 5478 km's in those 10 days. The plan was to go up the Sturt highway and then go via Ayers Rock, King's Canyon and then through to Alice Springs stopping at the gorges/chasm/gaps along the way. As you can expect nothing goes to plan. Day 1 Adelaide to Cooper Pedy, made it just before the Roxby Downs turn off and blow the side wall on the tire of the 4x4, 193 km detour just to get a tire and even then it was the second tire place that had the tire the correct size. We had camels come in to the campsite in Erldunda Roadhouse, they even left hoof prints 1/2 a foot from the tent, at King's Canyon we had dingo's come through the camp ground both nights we where there and at Alice springs we had a mouse move in under the tent in their campground. Some of the aboriginal towns we passed where in lock down because of covid 19 so no going in to get fuel there, that changed some plans. The floods where way worse up in Northern Territory than i realized. Some creeks/rivers i could see the debris over 2 meters from the river bed and down one 4x4 track it washed the road away completely, the hole was 3/4 the length of the 4x4 and over 6 foot deep. The temp was 33 to 36 for 9 of the 10 days and finally cooled down for the drive home. We got 7 different caches types in the N.T. plus every different cache size. It was a good trip but not the one we planned. To many of the roads in the N.T. where damaged and not repaired ( still closed ) so that cancelled plan A but that's just a excuse to come back isn't it. Come back and see what you missed last time when the roads are fixed. We came with 19 regular " geocaching size " containers and a milk crate of small containers by day 7 all the regulars where used as replaced caches and by day 8 the smalls where gone. It was the UV rays a lot more than the floods that killed the caches and almost all the log books where saved, the micro containers seemed to have constantly full log sheets so they where replaced too.

I am too impatient for noodling. I want to find a nice big stone in the first five minutes. The problem is I find plenty of stones but they are not opal. I did find this cache though.

Safe travels to both!

Off for a northern tour with Purrfect Di and Jack...
somehow we ended up at your cache ! ! !

No fishing today - unless you count fishing the maxxtrax from the mud...
Had some noodles for lunch Cool
Noodled a little but just found dirt... Surprised and your cache. A nice old one!

Today we had some fun. Got bogged on the way to a cache and being tourists, after much muddy maxxtraxing we managed to move on. All in all ok, as Di really enjoyed me unbogging the car LOL.

Three weeks on the road for a family holiday to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon amongst other cool destinations had us traveling all over the place. We had a great time and the weather was extremely hot with bushfires that actually prevented us from going to some destinations.
We arrived late in the afternoon and stayed in Coober Pedy for one night as we headed to the NT. We explored the town and had some dinner before going to bed. In the morning we did some noodling before heading on our way.
Thanks for the cache.

Geoniece + geoboyf were very keen on trying noodling once they heard it was a thing. I spent most of my time taking photographs in the area, the light was very nice and this town is truly magnificent. Right as we were planning to head off for catching sunset back at our dugout I quickly checked the app (I honestly always forget to check until after we leave, a bad habit, this time I remembered!) and we went for a wander to this one. We went in the wrong direction for a little while, but got there in the end.

Photos are soilers.

TFTC!

When I came into town, I honestly didn't know what noodling was or mullock heaps or Fossiking? I really was wondering where the catfish were?

After driving down the wrong roads to get here through town, I found where one could get his noodle on. I don't know if anyone finds any Opals out here and if they do, I wonder how long it takes to find a tiny bit of it?

Later, I came back and took a tour of Faye's house. They were closed for the season and working on repairs and maintenance outside, but the girl at the opal mine in town, called ahead and told them I was coming. They were already expecting me when I arrived. She said that if I paid the regular 10.00 admission, she would give me the tour and let me walk around and take pictures inside.

I stepped into the kitchen, which aside from the stone walls carved out of the rock, it was like any other Aussie kitchen, complete with the one piece stainless steel sink and dish drain I've seen in all the homes I've been in. Next was the dinning room that had seating for six. In the walls were carved cabinets and shelving, the ceiling was about eight feet tall and was just raw carved stone, but I think that and the walls had been painted at one time. The floors were flat and carpeted. It was a very commercial grade of carpet and probably hadn't been replaced in thirty years. To the right was the bed rooms. One then stepping down into the other. They were small but had room for the typical dressers and vanity and room to move around the bed. It was all decorated in a style your grandmother would have enjoyed.

A small hallway off the dinning room led past a wine cellar or closet and a wall of Aboriginal art and boomerangs. This then opened up into the living room. The living room was furnished with a small TV, sofa, chairs and a collection of movies. In the north country, we collect movies for long winter nights where we stay inside to keep warm. I assume it's similar here where you stay inside on hot days to stay cool. It reminded me of life up in the Adirondacks.

There was so much cool stuff to this place and the caretaker told me lots of great stories in my short visit there. I'm glad that they opened up the place to me and gave me the tour. Coober Pedy is a place I'll never forget.

Thanks for the find.

Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply driving from Yulara (Uluru and Kata Tjuta NP) to Coober Pedy.

On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Tradi-Cache.

Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.

Thanks to 'The Rats' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'Noodling' and for the smiley. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.

Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

Something about the cache:
**================================================================================
Today we drove from Marla to Coober Pedy. We wanted to get to Coober Pedy in the early afternoon, but at lot of stops at all the caches along the way, did so we arrived a little bit late, but with a lot of found caches.
After check-in at the hotel, we drove to this cache to do a little noodling and to finish the nearby EC.
================================================================================**
Something about the day:
*================================================================================
From october 16 to november 6 2019, my wife (lp.dk) and I visited Australia for the first time.
After a flight of more than 20 hours, we landed in Darwin. After 2 nights in the city we continued in a rented car first towards Kakadu National Park and later towards Alice Springs.
In Alice Springs we were picked up in an off-road bus and went on a 3-day trip into the wilderness, with overnight stays in a tent close to Uluru.
Back in Alice Springs we drove all the way to Adelaide, from where we flew to Sydney, where we visited our son who has settled there.
After 5 days in the city, we flew back to Singapore, which we visited for 2 days before the final flight back to Copenhagen.
In total, the trip lasted just over 3 weeks.
On the trip we would like to find / visit as many Earth caches, Virtual and Webcams as possible, but also the other kinds of caches when possible.
================================================================================*
No trade.
