Finally the hide down to the old 2003 cache at the Core which we had wisely skipped 13 years ago with the kids (and I was worried that I would never find the cache in time if I had gone - in fact I sort of remember this as a trauma over the years seeing all the rocks thinking this would be impossible.) After collecting the info for the multi, it was finally time to search for this one. I looked at the hint and was so relived to see a very detailed one, this could be doable I thought. And indeed with the hint a quick find. Now I am glad I waited for this new container to be placed with a nice hint and did not attempt this with the family waiting on top all those years back. The impressive view from down here, the nice container and placemanet, the trauma form all those years, and a nice old find make this a very memorable cache and a FAVpoint of mine. The afternoon: Having to go back to Corin Resourt to pick up some items we had left behind a few weeks back, I took the opportunity to do some more caching at the end of Corin Road, that I had eyed off ever since we moved back here. We were last here with the small kids in Oct 2011 doing some caches closer to the road but leaving the walk down to the Core be. Lots of new caches at the dam since then and the old caches at the bottom still waiting. Two wonderful walks, one was an hour, 2km, to the Crown and Trig and another down to the bottom and then up to Basil for another good hour and 3km (and some higher heart rates indeed) Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it and in doing so contributing to this awesome hobby of ours.
Great to be back in Corin with the gang for the first time this year. Having previous finders on hand today made this an easier find foe me than it could have been. Always great to find a 20+ year old cache! Thanks, Tankengine!
Decided on a Corin maintenance run today, and checked on this one. As expected, it was in perfect condition, exactly where it belonged. Was so cool to see the old log entries. Especially Spindoc Bob - over 20 years ago - second to find!I decided to replace the logbook whilst I was here, even though having the original logbook in there is so cool! Therefore, I have scanned the beginning and end of the logbook, and posted it with this maintenance log. It was also interesting to see that Fifth to find was the local ranger!GOOD TO GO!!!
Had a bit of a look. Too many special rocks to choose from and not enough time for a detailed search today. We will be back. Thanks anyway Tankengine. The climb up the dam wall after was a solid scramble and good fun. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
With one half of the team unable to cross the stream a solo attempt was made. No joy for geoD on this occasion.
TFTC Back to doing some neighbourhood caching, filling in some gaps! Grateful thanks to COs for placing and maintaining the caches to entertain me on my journey.
Came back again to this area only to snap up the 'Corin Crowsnest' FTF with lots of caching friends (by coincidence) on our 'active rest' day. Having found all the caches around here it was therefore time to do some of them again with Contesta.
This one was a doozy to get to and we had to 'plead' with Contesta not to cross the fast flowing dam overflow below to reach GZ. BTW: I’m sure she would have been fine but it made us feel better not to watch her cross.
Instead we walked back to the top of the dam wall and climbed down which was strangely so much safer, interesting, fun and relatively easy. With GZ jumping around it was not an easy find with the hint being the only way we could find the cache GZ. That said, Contesta found it herself but we did enjoy her torture.
Then, we went down to the dam overflow that had kept us on the other side. Scarily the flow had visibly risen to a dangerous point making it safely uncrossable. However, that said it would then have been very easy to climb out dam side in the bush. We also visited the dam outlet that directly feds the Cotter River when it’s not overflowing. Today this outlet was closed given the volume of water flowing over the top.
Great to be back for an adventure and take photos for the memories.

Ventured along after the weird weir, the water in the river very high, wide and handsome. Watched on as a more elderly couple of intrepid hikers negotiated their way through knee high, rapidly flowing waters. Not for me, that would be about thigh high. The cache was not accessible today... but can always return, when waters recede.
Ahahaha... I have a suspicion about this cache, but if my suspicion is correct, then I won't be able to get to the cache right now. I was amused by the gadget atop the rocks though!
I might come back another season to see if my hunch about this one is correct...

Went for a drive this afternoon and went for a quick walk here. Knew where to look from last time, but still took quite a while to spot the container. Dark container in the shade with sunglasses makes it hard to spot. Anyway, got it then headed back up the hill where it started to rain, so that stopped me from looking at anything else here.
Good to tick this one off (and give it some love!)
Thanks,

Thanks,
After a previous failed attempt, I got a bit of assistance from the CO - I was in the right spot. Considered taking the shortcut, looked relatively easy from the top but from the bottom it's an insurmountable pile of rocks.

Rain eased off when I got here, so had to be careful on the wet rocks. Found a couple of likely special rocks, but could not find the cache!
One of several DNFs today!

Now thats a pile of rocks.... very impressive. I was targetting this as it fills a hole in my missing months for my JASMER challenge... upon actually making it down to the rock wall I went straight to it. I read the clue on approach and it just clicked.... yep, there it is. It is fantastic to read old logs from way back in the very early 2000's.
Thanks Tankengine and favourite point from me for placing and maintaining so many of the oldies in CBR!

Searched for a good 30 minutes before giving up.
We found two special rocks but no cache. We did have fun though, we will be back!

Dam it (pardon the pun), but the dreaded DNF log has to be done for this one. Will definitely head back to have another look at a later time. Backup maybe needed, so allrounder and I will drag Shadow! And Goo67 for the next trip out this way.
I had fun climbing over the rocks. At one of the special rocks I thought I saw an eye looking at me but it was just my own reflecting back. I am such a goose [:o)]
I really wanted to find this one but had to leave empty-handed.
Thanks for bringing us here.

Thanks for bringing us here.
Guess this is my fourth attempt on this one, must have spent two hours looking previously. Joined JohnnyBoyACT to-day who through good observation was able to find the correct special rock. Previously had been searching about 10 - 15 metres away but to-day the gps took me nearly to the spot. The best fun is climbing up the rock wall back to the car after the find. TFTC.
Back today for probably the fourth time in over 4 years looking for this cache (too embarrassed to log multiple DNFs in intervening visits). Many frustrated minutes spent looking for this blighter, although after each search enjoyed the direct exit up the dam(n) wall. Finally had a good look at recent posts and found the 'special rock' and nearby cache. Marmaduke Rothschild dropped by and we enjoyed the find. I think it would have been quicker to lift each rock in the dam wall. A favourite from me. Thanks TE FTC.
With rain forecasted for this afternoon we decided to tackle some 5 caches that 'joshwa27’ could not locate yesterday. These caches were between 'Milestone Milhere' and numbers BViews 48 thru to 52. We thought that it would be a nice challenge for the group and it did not disappoint. While it did not take too long to find all none were straight forward.
THEN we decided, with the weather looking good, to tackle two Tankengine caches down at the dam, one of which we had not found on two previous occasions.
FINALLY found this cache but not before locating the special rock and as noted in the description we did not have to lift a single rock. However with GZ jumping all over the place we did unnecessarily moved too many rocks before this find. Worth a favourite point for this wonderful place we visited yet again. Dam is very very low like we have not seen before all due to the drought - we spoke to an ICON rep that was at the base of the dam. Thx p2p. TFTC Tankengine.

Was down the road a bit with dty73 to turn a dnf into a ftf and once completed decided to come a bit further along to revenge the dnf on this cache as well. Problem was we didn't decide until we had got out here and the app hadn't loaded the cache details but decided we would just wing it without the details or gps! Turned out it was the the right plan and after making the way down made the almost immediate find, got to love that after the long search of last visit.
The nearby tunnel was roaring and the walk past the creek area is such a great place to visit.
Unlike last time we didn't return up the rocks to the road above but took the same track back along the way. Very glad to have this found, both to clear the dnf but it also fills a nice gap in my jasmer as well. Thanks for the cache TE.

Came out with Aquilus1 today to pick up a missing ftf, once claimed we decided to change our sad blue face into a yellow smiley one. Don’t know how we missed it last time. Today with no phone reception and no gps we went straight to it. Tftc!!!

A solo caching day today along Corin Road. This was my fourth stop. Parked at the western end of the dam and wandered down the trail to the nearby cache, then I headed for this one, I think for my third visit. Once again the GPS was erratic at GZ, but not as bad as previously. I checked the hint, the description and previous logs. Nothing at what I thought was the right location, then the GPS lead me to another spot that also fitted the description and the cache was soon found. Woohoo. I then returned to the car by climbing up the dam wall. TFTC.

I'm on leave this week and keen to use whatever time I have to go caching, especially while the weather is so good. Today I had the afternoon free so I thought I would revisit Corin to make amends for a couple I missed last visit.
I must admit I did not have high hopes after my previous DNF, but a chat with the CO a while back and a good torch finally did their job. The cache is in perfect condition, I guess that's because it does not see the outside world that often.
Thx TE from a pleased and relieved ST

This mountain was to good for us we couldn't find the "special rock" but with a DNF with us at the moment but still had a chance looked for about 30 minutes least and still no so we gave up and climbed up this shocker and still made it!!
We searched, we climbed, we looked but seems we were looking at the wrong special rock too far up the hill since looking through a few photos. Just no luck with locating the right spot to be at today but hopefully next time we might be more successful. Not a total loss though, the walk along the river on a warm sunny day with all the different colours and flowers was pretty great. But the gated tunnel was a lot of fun with the noise it makes and the cold air gusts that come out! Enjoyed our way back to the car too.
Too good for us today, but a lovely area just the same. Grilled tunnel is pretty cool and the dam wall is very impressive! The gps had difficulty locking in for a while and so we searched via the hint, but couldn’t see it. When in reception again we realised we may have been looking too high and that special rock may not have been the one we thought so special. We almost dismantled the thing that made our rock special, but then noticed others on other rocks so let it be. Have to come back for another cache, so we will check here again then.
I followed the directions and the hint, and searched for ages, but just rocks and more rocks. There was only one rock I consider as special due to what was on it, but no luck there either. Must need maintenance
Thanks anyway Tankengine

After getting a nearby FTF we decided to do a few more in the area. This was the first one off the block and with the help of Stormcatchers we soon had the cache signed off and we then sat back and admired the wall and explored the surrounding area which revealed a few interesting spots. Thanks Tankengine.
Decided to check on this cache today, and what do you know - there it was just where it belonged! This is not the first time I had "needs maintenance" inflicted on a perfectly good cache... I wonder what we can do to prevent that? Attached pic of last log entry. - Good to keep on going
G'day,
This cache has been flagged by Geocaching HQ as one that may need attention. I'm just posting to update you on what your requirements are as a cache owner as you may have forgotten or not been very clear on what you need to do.
The maintenance email you received would have highlighted what you need to do but [here](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=713) is a reminder.
- Maintenance: Visit your geocache, make any needed repairs, and post an “Owner Maintenance” log so the community knows it’s available to find. Consider updating the description, hint and/or the Difficulty/Terrain rating if it appears that geocachers are having trouble finding it. If your cache was fine, please indicate so with the "Owner Maintenance" as well. The "Owner Maintenance" log cancels out any existing "Needs Maintenance" attributes on the cache page.
- Disable: If you cannot check on your geocache within a reasonable amount of time, please disable your geocache listing. Once you perform maintenance, you can enable it and post an “Owner Maintenance” log.
- Archive: If you decide it is time for your geocache to be permanently retired, please archive the listing and retrieve all physical stages.
If you are not sure how to post any of these logs, then there is a great [help centre article](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=234) that you will want to have a read of. You will need to post an owner maintenance log once you have visited the cache and rectified any issues to clear the needs maintenance attribute on your cache.
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Rgds,
Matt - Ministro.

I made it all the way down and did find a couple of "special" rocks. GPS was a bit bouncy down here. Searched but came up with nothing.
Alas not found. I found two rocks that seemed special. One rock about 2 metres from where GPS said and one about 8 metres up the slope. The one up the slope had a instrument glued on to the rock which I assumed was used to monitor any movement in the rock face wall. It was was worth coming here just to see this instrument.
I went to the cords area, found the special rock and spent 45 minutes looking in every single nook, gap and cave. I am very sure that the geocache is not there any more. I was really looking forward to marking this one off my list today. I took numerous photos of the rock and the area where it should be but its just not there.
Winterdragon, ZQX and I were on a mission for the day to pick up some solved puzzles, and other caches at, and on the way to, Corin Dam. This was our only DNF for the day. After a pleasant stroll to the base of the dam, we spent nearly an hour searching with no sign of the cache. We returned to the car by scaling the dam wall - that was enjoyable.
Three cachers with over 10,000 finds between the, spent 50ish minutes looking for this, and came up empty handed. My GPSr died as we approached GZ, which didn't help.
The best bet was doing the rock wallaby thing back up the dam wall. Fun!

Who but TE would arrange to have such a huge pile of rocks to be built, just so that he could put a cache under it. GPS was drifting around a bit today, but but leaving it to settle I got it down to a fairly reliable 1m. We located a "special" rock. Then another one. Maybe even that one over there is a bit special? Well, the truth is that all rocks are special in their own way, and they should feel comfortable being themselves. Unfortunately, none of this actually helped in finding the dam(n) cache, so after a considerable time spent poking and turning rocks over, we abandoned the search and took the direct route out.
We arrived at 9.30 am and it was still 10 degrees with a mist about .
Some nice photos were taken and admired the calmness of the lake.
Head farmer hoofed to GZ and after a settling of the GPS unit had a lock on one spot .
The goods were well concealed and will bet this never goes missing.
Never been here before.
Great spot worthy of a Favourite box tick . A completely different angled trek on return was taken .
Many thanks to tankengine .

We have been looking forward to doing this one for ages and glad to finally get around to it. With the dam levels down there was no issue with access. As part of the more sensible Stormcatchers team we took the path down to the Core...which was lovely btw and much better than frying on the rocks !
That is definitely one suspicious and impressive pile of rocks and not surprised to find a geocache under it . We walked across the river bed towards the wall but not before admiring the bottom of the spillway structure, trying to imagine what it might look like with water flowing down it. Glad that ACTEW hasn't fenced the area off (yet) either and we were able to get up close and personal with the dam. The river looked so inviting in this weather but figured people wouldn't want us splashing around in their drinking water.
The GPS signal took a bit to settle, but miss Stormcatchers geosenses were on the money and we soon had the cache in hand. We love these old caches where people use to write more than just their names in the logbook...there was even a nice long entry from Spindoc Bob back in 04 that we thought was nice memory. We sat for a bit in the sunshine and just reflected and took in our beautiful surroundings. It was a great little adventure into the Core today, awesome cache. Thanks Tankengine !
We headed back out the way we came, but not without first checking out the outlet pipe to the left...now back out and upwards....

3977. After knocking off the crown, I thought I should have a crack at the core. Despite the listed advice, I decided on the rock hop down. It sounded like everyone has had heaps of fun, so followed suit. Soon the GPSr zeroed out and the container was spotted in seconds with the aid of the hint.
A stroll down to the outlet for a sticky beak and then back up again. This time, just on the eastern side of the spillway. Wasn't too bad in the end.
Thanks TE for another cool adventure and a cache.

After a bite of lunch at the picnic area, we followed the path down, down and down. We were smart (for once...) and actually stuck to the path which took us just where we needed to go! Headed up along the creek to get to GZ, enjoying the beautiful scenery. Apart from the walk back up again this would be a fantastic spot to spend an afternoon playing in the rapids! Now we've never been ones for rock caches but couldn't let this one go. Searched and searched for ages but no luck. There were two (maybe three) special rocks but none of them gave up their secrets. GPSr was also madly bouncing around. We weren't going to waste the trip and were determined to keep searching but our loathing of rockwalls was stirred again [B)]. FINALLY finally going back to one of our special rocks we finally discovered the prize. Very happy to have got this one in the end. Decided to jump the rocks back up to the road rather than take the return path - funfunfun .
Thanks Tankengine
Thanks Tankengine
I had decided to venture somewhere I had never been, and so I ended up at Corin Dam. Initially, my heart sank when I realised where GZ was, but I worked out how to gain access, and headed off. Arriving at GZ, and with the help of the clue, I quickly located the cache. A very scenic location, and I'm glad I made the effort. Thanks Tankengine for the cache
Rated: for Overall Experience
Spent 15mins looking. I see from the previous logs that this on is not easy I'll be back.
Day 244; cache 244. Oh my this is going to be hard. However it was a lot easier with wasptor to point us in the write direction and then having my dinosaur with me brought us luck as he came up with the goods sooner then what I had even planned. Such a nice day for the first day of spring and such a great cache to get. TFTC!
No luck for me here today. I followed the winding path down, searched for approx 30 minutes in all places I thought were special, zeroed in on 0 metres, but still nothing. I can see I'll need some extra eyes to help me next time. Too many possibilities and I should find out your definition of a 'special rock'. I thought I'd found a couple special ones, but the cache remained aloof. I'll be back!
Well, we had a good look. I didn't bring a torch,so it could be hidden down where I couldn't see, but we spent about an hour looking everywhere. Even used the hint, and came up with 2 meanings for it.
I might have to ask for a more detailed hint, because we moved quite a few rocks.
We decided to rock hop the wall (hey, I have a fitness test due, so doing things the "hard" way should help me), and as we were going up, some muggles must have thought that it looked like fun. They obviously havn't done much rough terrain stuff, and made it 10 meters down the wall before giving up, and it took themabout 10 minutes to make it back up.
I hope it is still there, because I willbe back to search soon.

Was our second attempt at this. Just don't know how we missed it the first time
Guess cause there is so many options!!
This time came down the road and crossed the spill way river. Wasn't that cold actually. Flowing quite strong but managed.
Checked out the tunnel outlet and then looked for the cache.
After that, climbed up the dam wall and then followed the concrete wall of the spillway down to where it ends. Was awesome to sit and just watch the water pour off the end of the spillway. More like raging actually
Picked up the TB.

"Do not use the direct approach to attempt this cache! Walk around and follow the path on the left!" - with so much water going over, the walk around option was not feasible, advisable or even possible.
As for the cache, 40 mins of searching - no cache found.

I'm pretty sure you need some kind of smack around the ear-hole Tankengine!!!
Don't try the Direct approach eh?
Would have been smart to know that BEFORE I tried it!!
Dad stops to admire the view and says to me - "It's down there, in the rocks."
"In the rocks eh?" (Incredulous looks sent his way!)
"You up for it?" He asks....
well.... "straight down there or around over there and all the way down there" he informs me in such a way that the rocks seem easier by comparison! Ugh.
Ok I say, lets go.
What am I doing?
About half way down I stop rock hopping and the gravity of the place sinks in and I keep looking back behind me and down in front of me to Dad who has turned into a rock hoppin seagull who I swear is flying down while I am not looking cos he is waaaaaay ahead of me! I start getting jelly legs and find more slippery rocks with a notarary black smear across them than safe ones!
He is searching far down below for quite some time before I actually manage to get down there and help after virtually bum sliding down each rock while holding on for dear life and therefor scratching the crap out of both rings!
At some point I peered into a gap and spied a crumbly cluster of silver and rock so I managed to get a good chunk and wrap it up in my jacket and put it in my bag over my shoulder. Happy to at least have some more mineral specimens for my display case if not a find.
I get to the bottom eventually and blasted if we can specify which one this SPECIAL ROCK is! They could ALL be special for all I cared at that point!
After not long enough for the effort spent traversing the terrain we gave it in because of the Husband and cubs throwing rocks as far as they could still back up at the top waiting as long as they did.
The sun finally decided to emerge for the first time today as I made my way back up which only made me hotter and guess what? We even had an audience! Great! there were some randoms watching two crazy people scuttling back up that massive rock avalanche for no apparent reason who only gave us strange looks as we made toe nice flat road again.
Soooo pooped, sooo stuffed.
I shall only retry that one again if I KNOW it is there!
Thanx for the jelly legs.
Thanx for innumerable scratches on my rings.
Thanx for leaden arms and stiff raw fingers.
Thanx for the exercise and I shall indeed smack you for placing that sometime on the future!
Don't try the Direct approach eh?
Would have been smart to know that BEFORE I tried it!!
Dad stops to admire the view and says to me - "It's down there, in the rocks."

After much searching, several slips and one almost-hospital-worthy fall, it's off to the water to wash the blood off my elbows. Guess I need more experience at this caper!
This was my last attempt of three for the day. There was some rain recently so I came equipped with some sandals and a towel so I could wade accross the river. I managed to get about three quarters of the way accross in a few different spots but each time I was blocked by a deep channel on the opposite side. That water is 'dam' cold!
Eventually, with my legs burning from the icy water and the light failing I had to admit defeat. I'll be back!

As we suspected it wasn't easy, but eventually TaurusSix and I saw the cache, signed the log, and prepared ourselves for the short, but steep climb back up the track. The dam outlet is quite impressive, more for the noise than the amount of water. Left Beary.
Left a TB here, but noticed it wasn't in my inventory (I was waiting for the previous finder to log their move). So had to grab it from it's previously logged cache in USA. Now logging the drop off.
An awesome spot for a cache, but having three kids who were super eager to go bob sledding, time was not on our side.
Did manage to check out the water from the tunnerl, saw a tiger snake then went to find a few other caches.
Will take some convincing to get the kids back down there, but fingers crossed.
Thanks Tankengine

My second go at this. Barely a trickle off the spillway so no need to wade through any deep stuff at the bottom. What was surprising was the gardening that had occured, somehow, all the grass was mown! Made my way to where GPS said was zero, put everything down and lo and behold, I was at the special spot! 30 seconds later, I was signing the log.........I didn't know at the time but I would pay for this at the Cove ! Had a bit of an explore whilst I was down there, very interesting the tunnel where the river flows from. Back up to car, a 2 km round trip for a cache that was only 200m away from my parked car Now, off to the Cove
Was out here for Coin's Core-blimey so I couldn't leave without finding Corin's Core as well. Whilst its great to see the dam so full and water rushing over the spillway it did make the hike a little but more interesting - wow, that water is really, really really cold. Definitely worth it though as that dam is truly spectacular from the that angle. There could be a million caches hidden here but fortunately it didn't take too long and cache was in hand. Now, the journey back. Did I mention that the water is really really really cold. Hmmm. Thanks Tankengine.
After the family visited Corin Forest for some bobsledding fun I convinced the wife that there are some lovely views to see at Corin Dam. While wife and son walked across the dam wall to the viewing platform I decided to take the direct route down the rocks to GZ. Cache was found very quickly to my nice surprise so I left a PT and GC and climbed back up the wall. I can understand how this one may cause a few problems for some cachers. Many thanks for the cache Tankengine! Will add photo later. Also there are 12 Survey Markers on the dam wall. Just some trivia...

We spent ages looking for it but failed, as others have mentioned it was hard to get a fix while clambering over the rocks. We did find two large rocks in the vicinity of GZ with survey monitoring marks placed on them, but did not consider them to be "special". We enjoyed visiting the dam on a nice sunny winters' day & were not greatly disappointed with the failure, will try again sometime. TFTC
Scrambled down the rocks, did the bush thing then got to GZ. After bout half an hour of searching Mr Winglen joined me in the hunt (he having been here before) Still nothing after another 10 mins then I centred on the obvious and scored.
I would like to say good hide, but hell with all of the possibilities: NASTY.
Follow the clue and you will be halfway there..
Conveniently picked up by McPhan after having reached the road. Good service!
Thanks for the cache.

I have never been all the way down to the dam before and this was a good chance to check it out. There seemed to be a good amount of water, but it was in no way full. The walk down to the bottom was interesting. Thanks.

I found a special rock with something embedded in it - that didn't help. Lots of lizards about though. All was not lost, I loved the sound of the river as I trudged back cacheless !
[We decided to do a Corin Road run to finish off the family holiday, and this was as far as you could go on the Corin Road!
We figured that all rocks are special in their own way, and although there is something unique about the rock in question, there was something unique about all the rocks there!
As it was hard to get a fix on the direction/distance while clambering over the rocks, we sort of abandoned the GPSr and focused on a few very special rocks.] I have to say, we were expecting to see a stencilled tankengine somewhere.
[Having taken the easy way in via the path, CSKids took off up the wall of rocks, and eventually CSMum and CSDad followed suit, but not in the sort of time the younger ones did!

I located the special rock and despite about 20mins of searching I couldn't come up with the goods. I'm sure it must still be there, more than likely overlooked something so I'll have to return to give it another go.
We decided to head out here for a 3.30pm start, as we wanted to attempt a couple of other caches just down road before the sun went down.
After arriving at the Dam, we followed the cache description and took the road on the left. Once down the hill and at the general GZ area, we took about 15 mintues fo find the cache. With the log signed and the cache replaced we decided on the direct route back as it looked like fun. Took just over 10 minutes, and at the time I was really pleased.
Thanks Tankengine, a fun little hunt
Cheers,
(Log Edit 9 Mar 09:
After another search, my 'lost' wallet was found....in someone's else backpack. Embarrassing, but glad it was found.)

951 - Well I waited until Sol posted his log to see what he said. After walking down the road, finding the cache, and walking up the Dam Wall (which was fun...reminded me of the Pyramids...) I really never expected to come back here ever again....
And I REALLY didn't expect to be BACK here a couple of hours later to walk down the road, find the cache (yes we even looked in there 'just in case' , and walk UP THE DAM WALL AGAIN !!
Seriously its a shame about the wallet. But the cache was fun and highly recommended - worth doing. Its not that tough if you go down and up the road...
Thanks Tankengine. And it was nice to see the note from the Ranger a couple of years ago (Photo in the Gallery)...

I hadn't been in to this end of the Corin Valley before, so really appreciated the opportunity to visit. A great spot with some quiet leafy areas to picnic beside the access track.
After a bit of a rock scramble and a re-read of the clue the cache was soon in hand. TNLN, but thanks Tankengine for giving me a reason to come exploring out here. Cache is in good order.

Found 3:03pm.
After spending most of the day at Square Stone, this seemed like it'd be an easy grab. I was expecting one of those "By the roadside" or "Under the bench" type caches. Glad I was wrong, but after the 8 K hike, the legs didn't want to warm up again after cooling down. That was a killer 100 metres back up, but I'd do it again.
I like to do my best to find caches without the hints, but there's only 4.68235890 billion hiding places (approximately). I had a good go, then while I stopped to wip out the PDA to decipher, Borrie spied it. Him being a surveyor AND having worked on and around the dam in his youth, he had the upper hand as he knew exactly what signs to read. It was only clearer to me after reading the hint. Sneaky I was redeemed, though, as I made the actual retrieve after watching Borrie try to pull it out from the wrong way.
Lovely place. A bit of an effort to drag the gear down to the BBQ's it seems, and as noted, they don't get used much. But then, who really wants to take the family out to somewhere they can't swim or take the family pooch?
Watched the baby trout in a feeding frenzy. Man, what I wouldn't give to throw a line in. Apparently us fisherman must be a messy lot, though. Shame, as it seems the other users of this area make a ton of mess as it is. Watch out for broken glass all around the cache site.
Took: Moose.
Left: Pirate. Ar Har... etc and stuffs, me matey.

Shell and I followed the instructions on the cache page to get to this one, we felt like we were heading in the wrong direction but we got there in the end. This one was hidden quite well. I was starting to think we were going to have to take option 1, anyone who has been here would understand how hard that would be! Then we found the special rock and the cache was in hand soon after.

This was our first Geocache, and quite disappointing, because we couldn't find it for about 1 1/2 hours. After we gave up, B. had the great idea to use a torch, and bingo! There it was. All disappointment was quickly forgotten, and we happily attempted the next one!
We took the coasters and put in a sleeping mask (the batman mask would't fit).

We've been wanting to do this for some time - last visit we found the gate locked because we didn't check on road closures, silly us. No problems today, but we did not find any easy way down. I thought someone mentioned a track in a log. Anyway, it was fun scrambling down to the bottom of the rockpile - I love a rock scramble (had my share today between here and Square Stone) Once down the bottom it took us about 15 minutes to locate, with poor GPSr accuracy today. We were feeling that rising uneasy feeling that we had driven a fair way and scrambled down here, and might leave empty handed - horrors. Then I found it, relief. Good placement. Took the geocoin which has been here long enough, and swapped a keyring for a plastic knight. Great cache, thanks Tankengine.
took the bike from woods reserve up the big bill to the gate and then flew down the hill, dodging wallabies and foxes on the way down. took the path from the dam down to where the cache is supposed to be located but no luck. looked in crevices, gaps, on top of rocks etc but nothing there. maybe it has been moved? or maybe i am missing something obvious????
I didn't realise how low the dam actually was, great area though but I was disappointed not to get to see snow up close but spectacular views of nearby mountains that were covered.
This was our second attempt at this one the first being last weekend. It was done on a bit of a whim then, leaving home in the late afternoon wasn't the smartest thing as it was nearly dark when we were looking for the cache.
'Corins core expedition: take 2' was much better planned. For starters there was actually daylight on that part of the dam this time. Aside from a minor knee graze by mrs monkey we found the cache without a problem.

Came out here with the_funky_monkey's to help in a couple of DNFs they had. Mrs funky_monkey had a bit of a slip up on the path down to GZ and grazed her knee a bit, but carried on like a geocaching trooper. When we got to GZ it only took a couple of minutes to find the cache, and we found it in the original place we started looking. The dam is so empty at the moment! Will have to take a trip out to Googong for a comparison soon. Thanks for the fun cache!

What a fun trip. Little One and I had decided this cold Saturday morning to go for a "short" drive out to the dam to see how low the water levels were, leaving Mum and Bub to do some bonding.
After taking some photos on arrival we decided to retrieve the cache. After an initial attempt to get down close to the overflow, I discovered the simpler way down. So with 16 kilos on my shoulders we wandered down the track, across the stones to the bottom of the wall. Little One sang her heart out all the way down. She sat on a big rock whilst I madly followed a wandering arrow on the GPS, which had me scrambling all over the rock wall, until I decided just to go for the coordinates. Luckily they were spot on. Initially I was unable to retrieve the cache until I realised there was rather a large opening at the side....remember all this time I was keeping an eye on a 2 3/4 year old who was quite happily sitting there, but wanting to help me find the treasure.
Signed the log and then came the walk back up!! Much harder going up with 16 kilos on shoulders than going down (think I need to do more caching again to get my fitness levels up).
Had planned to do a couple of other caches out here, but we had been gone for 4 1/2 hours and Little One was getting hungry and tired, so we headed home.
Thanks for a fun cache and a fun day out.

if you climb directly up to the top from the bottom of the mother of all rockpiles, thinking "I am the King of the Castle - CT is a dirty rascal"
We did make it adventurous in other ways too.
Sadly the photo shoot was not being re-done today otherwise it might have been an even higher overall experience - sorry gigglygecko!
I had a lot of fun, and just shook my head - Tank Engine was probably transported to Cachers Heaven when he was able to put this rockpile to good use. I remember coming to Red's Rear and thinking "TankEngine loves his rocks" Multiple that by a million times or two.
Sadly the dam is terribly low - now that was a shock!
Unfortunately my prescription glasses turn dark in the sun so I was badly handicapped when looking in the dark shadows on such a beautiful warm sunny Autumn day. CT came up trumps but I was only 50 cm away about to look in that same crevice!!

Found @ 1:40pm with SecretSquirrel-BJC. Pick another rock! Not likely. Had some fun getting to the GZ and studying the various engineering feats from much different angles than would normally occur from the roadway. Had a few attempts to narrow down the GZ area and finally paid off when the not so obvious became obvious (ie we found the cache).
Only problem was, which way back to the car? Well that was easily solved when you can see the easy?? way back spreading out in front of you. TNLN Thanks yet again Thomas.

Yay, finally fopund this one! What an interesting view from this cache site! Well, more so than normal. GeoGranny from Scotland and Gigglygecko got up early to go collect a TB and when we got there, we found a photo shoot in progress. One very naked model and three crew on props and camera! And to think that we were worried the car in the carpark meant another cacher was going to beat us to the TB! Anyway, tried not to sneak too many peeks, quick prayer of thanks that we didn't have geokiddies with us and did a very quick grab and run of the cache. T: Snail TB and L: geocaching patch. TFTH
That's some rock pile! After searching without success in a couple of obvious places, considered the clue and searched some more. No luck today - decided not to push the limits of my 6 year old sons patience and abandoned the search to seek out the bobsled on the way back to town. Enjoyed the walk and the beautiful autumn day - it makes a nice change to walk up-hill to return to the car after hunting for a Canberra cache!
BTW - saw a brown snake sunning itself on the rocks beside the water on the way to the GZ - we cautiously continued in different directions, and didn't meet again (phew!).

Found this with Hayleylou after a difficult search in bright sunlight. Thanks to my shadow allowing some more contrast "between the cracks" I managed to catch a glimpse of the cache!. Nice hide under a big pile of rocks!.

After being so close to this cache on two occasions in the last two weeks doing fieldwork on the river nearby for work, I dragged frebbles out to get this one today. Was great weather for caching but the sun creating so much contrast in light on and around the rocks did slow us down finding this one. This is a nice area, however, it really is sad/worrying to see just how low the dam level is getting - especially when so much more water is required to come out of it than what is going in. Thanks for the cache tankengine. At least now I won't be itching to find the cache every time I am out there!
This was a good walk this morning. If it wasn't for the GPSr and the hint, the rocks would've won this battle. There could be a thousand caches here and I would probably only find two.
I'm happy to report that all attempted suicides against the front of my car were completely unsuccessfull - (Crimson Rosella, Kangaroo x 2, Wallaby, Dingo)

After visiting another Tankengine Cache in the area, we decided to have a look for this one.
Walked down to the general area of GZ pretty easily, but finding it was a bit harder. We really needed the hint for this one. After going to the area described in the hint, we found it pretty quickly.
Thanks Tankengine.
We took a Pooh pen.
We left a few glow-in-the-dark rings.

I thought this one would be easier than it turned out to be! Managed to find the special rock and looked high and low to no avail. A forty minute search felt like hours in the mid-30 degree heat so had to accept a DNF for this one.

317. Please everybody conserve water. If you need a visual prompt please visit this cache. It really shows how bad things are. The water is so low and has been for so long that grass is growing in the now exposed area.
I was really dreading this one and have had my eye on it for a while. I never have much luck around lots of rocks. I took a nephew to assist and he found it in the first place we looked. Anybody else wanting to do this please read the entry prior to TankEngines maintenance log. After a spate of cache vandalism. this entry restores faith in the basic goodness of people.

Now that the road is open again (thanks for the info Mtbikeroz), we decided on a quick visit to make sure everything was OK. The good news was that everything was OK, however, the cache was not quite in its proper spot, and has had a little too much sun exposure over the last couple of years! When I tried to replace the cache, the lid cracked! (Plastic does not like sun)... I have now replaced the container, and the contents are fine. - As an added bonus, there is now another cache on the way here! Go for it!
I was riding my Mountain Bike down thereabouts (more abouts than there), and I saw a sign. It said the road to Corin Dam was OPEN. I took a closer look, at the sign, see photo.
It appears indeed the road is open, the open sign was padlocked into the open position and the spider webs on the "closed" flap were freshly broken. Its OPEN!
That paper in the photo is all about blackberries.

Thanks Mtbikeroz for the info! - Good news, I have adjusted the difficulty and terrain back a bit again. - Now, the question is, what devious cache is Mtbikeroz planning out there ...
