Find #631Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the wayIt was a daunting task after walking 33km to drop the pack and walk up this hill but boy I was glad I did. An awesome spot in an awesome part of the world. The detours are making this trip for me. Cache is in good order

19-Sep-23
Te Araroa Day 4 and after staying nearby and about to get get back on 90 mile Beach I made a point of heading up the hill (so much faster without a pack) to check out the view and take a quick search for this cache. I can report that the view of the beach was great and the cache was quickly located, signed and replaced Ed as found. My thanks to the cache owner for hiding one up here or I doubt my sore feet would've led me up the hill for a squizz otherwise. Cheers -- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --

Yes, a good stretch of the legs but worth it, even though there was a fair gale blowing today. Fantastic views - watched 2 buses zooming back along the beach. Could hardly take any photos because the wind buffeted my camera so hard! Fave point from us for your great cache names! Cache is all good. TFTC

Taking our new veihicle for a drive along 90 Mile Beach. Kiwi has driven the beach once before but this is a first for Scottie & Kiwiscot. Kiwiscot who only recently got her learners licence also had a spell behind the wheel. Almost timed it badly with the tide getting around Maunganui Bluff but we managed to scoot through in between the surges. Got a bit sketchy heading north after the Bluff with the tide forcing us further up onto the softer sand but we made it to Te Paki stream. Great fun day out.

Definitely would suggest if you travel along the beach you do it in a 4x4 with a high wheel base. We came across 2 stuck cars. One a 2 wheel drive on the beach which we managed to push out of the soft sand. Another a Subaru Legacy wagon which tried to exit the beach along a remote trail next to the Seahorses cache and bottomed out. Luckilly for them a proper 4x4 turned up with a tow rope and pulled them out. Some damage done to this persons car in the process though.

This is what we love about the hobby. The chances of us making the short climb up Hukatare without geocaching would have been minimal and we would have missed out on the fabulous views on offer.

As mentioned by previous cachers, the container lid is stuffed. We had some gaffer tape and have repaired as well as we could. Most likely still needs replacing at some stage.

No travel bug found in cache. Log signed, photos taken. Favorite point given. TFTC Smile

23-Feb-21
Wanted to grab this on my way back to Hamilton from the Cape, as it ticks off another Jasmer month for me.

As mentioned the lid is broken, however the previous finder and I have placed the cache upside down to avoid water getting in. TFTC!

Second time to this spot, lovely as ever. Today was amazing to watch the front end loaders barreling into the surf collecting the kelp with mussel spat and loading it onto the trucks.

18-Jul-20
We decided to see if the side road was ok, and it was open and driveable, with only a few spots of water! Great spot, and amazing views from the top!! Thanks for placing and maintaining this piece of history!!!

Did not drive or walk all the ninty miles beach. But got the hill. With a machete would have been more easy to get the right corner.

I am using the excuse of friends of mine getting married in Northland this weekend to finally get to do what I have wanted to do for over 30 years now, visit 90 Mile Beach and Cape Reinga.
And of course whilst doing that I'm also making the most of a rare opportunity to grab a whole bunch of caches that either help me with my Jasmer grid, my Hidden Dates grid, or else are part of the TMGT, or lastly because they are an Earthcache or a Virtual which I like doing.

Cape Reinga roadtrip day 5 - the drive back from Cape Reinga to Auckland.

It was going to be a very busy day, trying to get as much caching done as I made the long winding way from Cape Reinga back to the hustle and bustle of Auckland to catch my breath before tomorrows final push back home to the lower North Island to finish what would end up being a 2300km round trip.

There was no other traffic around as I parked up as near to GZ as possible and my only concern as I walked up the hill was the intermittent rain. Once atop, it only took me a minute of rummaging around before I found the container, but all was fine with it and its contents so I took care of the usual logbook administration and then replaced it all exactly as found before taking a few photos of the view and returning to the car to crack on with the rest of my day.

Thanks for the cache.

Got it. Watch out for the wasp nest. Our son found the cache down the trail. We replaced within the designated spot but not near the protective wasps! beautiful view. TFTC!

01-Mar-20
Warning: wasp nest at the little corner in the middle. Made the detour to the beach so we could touch the water. Beautiful setting with some great views. Nice little trek up. Found container in the open a ways away but put it back to where it made sense and where the GPSr said it belonged. SL TNLN TFTC!

14-Jan-20
Well what a view, what a place for a cache!

07-Jan-20
After taking a look and small stroll along the Ninety Mile Beach, we turned our car back, since we didn't have a 4x4. This cache proved a nice excuse to go up the hill and take in the scenery from up top. I probably shouldn't have tried to run all the way up in order not to make my wife wait too long in the car, but after I found my breath again, I was quickly able to find and sign the cache Wink TFTC!

We went to 90 mole beach and then on the way came past this hill. I thought there must be a cache and sure enough, there was! Great spot for a cache and an amazing view!

24-Nov-19
Found with tassie expat while holidaying from Australia. Tftc. Great views.

24-Nov-19
Thankfully the path goes round and round because my poor legs would not have coped with straight up! A quick find at the top. Not only we were rewarded with a smiley, but amazing views too. We looked down at the beach too, but you don't get the same appreciation for Mother Nature's work. Fav pt for bringing us here. TNLN TFTC

Found this one on our NZL Roadtrip. We found the place first and the couch was a bonus.

Thanks for hiding it here.

Found this on day 4 of our TA hike. A little off trail; but we're staying at Utea camp tonight anyway. Still, didn't expect the climb to this cache, after 20 miles of hiking along the beach today... But the view from the top was beautiful! A quick find once we arrived. TFTC!

#1001. This cache is a bit sentimental for me as it is the first cache I have found on the Te Araroa trail. I don't actually start the trail until tomorrow but I'm staying at Utea Park tonight and they are taking me to Cape Reinga tomorrow morning.

I was going to wait until I walk back down 90 Mile Beach on the 3rd day of the trail to grab this cache but I thought I'd get it tonight as I might have sore legs then and I wanted to see the sunset tonight, and go for a bit of a walk to get my appetite up as I wasn't hungry.

I didn't see much of a sunset because it was quite cloudy and man was it blowing a gale up there. But I found the cache in the second place I looked, signed it and replaced it, took a moment to admire the view and then descended and jogged back to my cabin before the rain came in.

I'm in bed right now wondering if I will get any sleep at all with all this wind. Anyway... TFTC! Hopefully the first of many along Te Araroa!

Although the weather today was bad we found some caches on our way to Ninety-Mile-Beach. The lookout probably is really nice - in sunny weather. After all we found two multi caches, one in Kaitaia and one near the campground at the Wagener museum.

Well scoured track to get up here but also well worth the walk tho cos the views are amazing. Found it on my 3rd corner.
Fab awarded for the location. I have no idea what the pad is here for, perhaps a lookout post during the war maybe.

Ninety Mile Beach finally. This was on Toby and my 'must do' list. So lets go. Stopped Toby at the beach and walked the last bit. Sand got very soft very quickly so pleased we are walking. Think Toby would have struggled here. Snagged and tagged this one then it was an interesting walk/slide back to Toby. Cheers

Its Wednesday - day Five -Kaitaia and Ninety Mile Beach with The Seagnoid and Toby.

Its another epic 4 week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and Willam to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

19-Dec-18
This... this is one of the reasons I have come here. It was thirty years ago when I was last here, and I wasn't *here* - I never got to drive the Beach. But not only was it specifically factoroed in this trip, there are caches along it! But we would have driven this even if the beach was bare. We looked at taking Toby up here, when we saw a buggy come down the track. Glad we chose not to in the end - just around the corner it got real dodgy and after that was just a foot track anyway. How the heck did they get the dune buggy up there?? Found the cache, and then found a short cut back down. Steep!!

Day five of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. A second day mucking about the Aopouri Peninsula. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!

Merry Christmas from the Seagnoid!
