The cache has been washed away in the floods. I have decided not to replace it in this flood prone area. If you're still hunting for A Picture's Worth 1000 degrees, you can find the third picture piece in my new cache "Ice Cream and Cigarettes".

04-Feb-05
Cache appears to have run into trouble from all the recent rains.

03-Feb-05
Was in the area this morning so thought I'd try my hand at finding this one despite the last 24 hours of rain!!!

Got to GZ pretty quickly but as you'll see from the posted photo it's pretty wet around here! Got the cache pretty easily but as the container was full of water I decided not to write anything in there. Emptied out the water but didn't have anything to dry with...

May need a maintenance run with a new container... Have sent a confirmation photo to Quasar showing the hidey hole and cache (as I didn't write in it).

Found the first wp easy, made my way onto the second. I knew I only had 30 mins of sunlight left so I made a dash. I got to GZ at 8.15PM I searched obvious spots. I decrypted the clue to try and make the find easier. I then seached every nook any cranny and even used my phone torch to see into dark spots. But it wasn't to be, i hope the cache hasn't been swept away. The storms over the past day pr two has pushed all the weeds and grass down around the bottom. And everything was soaking wet. It was getting dark and after 40 mins of searching I had to leave empty handed. I hope my next trip will be more successful.. Regards M.B.

My first cache this year. Liked the final location a lot. Logbook and other papers are very moist.

01-Jan-05
Found at 18:15 with Shimachic.

Good hiding place, but as others have said - the stuff in the cache is a little wet. I almost ended up the same way when I stepped on a not-so-solid rock. Smile

Took : Stickers
Left : Bubbles!

Found while visiting from Queensland. Fairly easy to find with the good clues. Contents were a bit damp. Is this really the centre of Melbourne? Took a tape measure because once we unfurled it we couldn't get it back so it wouldn't fit back in the cache. Left a hacky sack. Enjoyed the search anyway.
Thanks - Lex.

29-Nov-04
Went along on my own at about 10:30pm. Found the location ok, but after about 20 mins of searching humidity and darkness got the better of me so I think I'll return at a brighter time!

25-Nov-04
Found at 16:55.
Nice easy cache.
Took picture and left handful of golf tees.
Thanks Quasar.
Cache is in a dog friendly area.

13-Nov-04
I visited this cache today, removed the contents that were too far gone to be any good, dried out the rest, and replaced the log book, info sheet and restocked with photo pieces. I also replaced the cache container with a clip-top one, so hopefully it should be more watertight. Please be careful if you try to cross the creek at the moment, it's running rather fast!

Gosh, how lucky am I? After doing the first point on the way home from a VARPS Branch meeting a month ago, I thought I'd do this one "on spec" today (without reading or seeing any recent logs). If I'd been a few hours earlier, it looks like I'd have been logging a DNF!!! Phew.

Geko was behaving badly but an e-spanking (switching it off and back on) and I was right on top of it for an easy find at 17:20. For the 3rd time in 2 months, I've had a FTF(itNLB) and the second in this series of caches!!! That's gotta count for something.

Took the next piece of the puzzle, LN. Thanks Quasar. It looks like I'll be visiting "The Great Library of Alexandra - Montrose Sub Branch" sometime to complete this one as the 1st two bits of the puzzle ain't telling me anything Red Face.

08-Nov-04
I'm temporarily disablng this cache until I can repair it.

04-Nov-04
Found today but bad news I'm afraid, It was full to the top with water. I emptied the container and shook the excess water off all items but the contents are very sad looking indeed. Even the ziplock bags were full of water. The log book was also wet through so I didnt leave a note. Did'nt have my 'Cache repair kit' on hand so Ive humbly walked away leaving it in only slightly better condition than it was.
Quasar when you get a chance this one needs some TLC.
I thoroughly enjoyed the walk and the area all the same, very interesting little deviation in an otherwise ordinary day Smile.

Facitman and the smallest Facit dropped by at this cache this afternoon to pickup a photo clue for "A Picture's Worth a Thousand Degrees". We picked up a photo from Spreadsheet Stash with Rhinogeo last weekend so thought we should grab the local clue!

Cache in good order and this time we managed to access it without getting s-Facit wet Smile

18-Oct-04
Found it on the second try. Have since learned to actually read what people post about their caches after staring up a tree for about 20 mins at the posted co-ords, went home reread the instructions and found it at the correct co-ords. Had to appear inconspicious as there were people cutting the grass.
thanks for the cache

Found it without too many problems. There sure are a lot of holes to check, must have been the last one left that we found it in. Left Winnie the Pooh (with TB) and took the American $5.$~Found it without too many problems. There sure are a lot of holes to check, must have been the last one left that we found it in. Wahroongaa and family visited this cache with a stop at the nearby playground and the Melbourne's (most) central milk bar for an ice cream. Since this is only about 15-20 minute walk from Wahroongaa HQ, we enjoyed finding a watery spot that we had not previously visited in our own neighbourhood. Picked up Compass Winnie travel bug and will send him on his travels next weekend. Swapped a pack of ear plug compound and mints for a cling on koala and alien parachutist. Thanks Quasar! BTW: the log book has run out of spare pages - we logged our visit on the cardboard backing.

Found it @ 18:00

Very tranquil little spot. Took some finding though!! Picked up TB "Raceheks", she's been here for 3 weeks, time to move on.

Took TB "Race heks" & picture piece
Left $5 U.S.

Thanks Quasar

Located @ 13:25 on Sunny Grand Final Day, after a quick scrabble around - great spot for a cache.

Took my first picture piece only.

Thanks - this is fun!

08-Sep-04
Found this afternoon after heavy rain.

Things were hard to access and very slippery.

Took a photo piece.

Left TB RaceHeks

Thanks Quasar

04-Sep-04
Had a good time doing this one - even if I did struggle a little to find it - much climbing, and of course it had been raining overnight so it was muddy and slippery - but I got there in the end - Took Aussie Patch, Left CD.

An interesting cache, what with this being so close to the Center of Melbourne and all. These type of caches are excellent as I get to find out more and more about the city I was born in and grew up in, but really don't know.
Found the clue and took a nice stroll through the park on a cool and foggy morning.
Got to the final resting place and it was in the first place I looked. Excellent!
I was a bit wary of the major Troll Hole off to the right, goodness only knows what sort of creatures live in there.
I took an Alien Keyring and left an Alien Paratrooper.
Thanks Quasar for an interesting cache.

11-Jul-04
Found at 2.15pm after looking in the wrong place for a few minutes. Then back to where we started and there it was. Picked up a piece of the picture and we both (in unison) said bla bla. So we will be off to do the 1000 Degrees cache soon. Took: fuses, Left: Aussie cloth badge.
Thanks Quasar.

12-Jun-04
Found after a call to the evil_hitman/Em_Eagle Helpline.

Completely drove past the first WPT, so I noted the details from the sign in a window of the hall and carried on.

I was in the middle of clambering around, when I heard a noise, turned around and there was a very amused muggle standing on the trail looking at me.

He asked if I was looking for "the thing from the internet" and I said yes. He then said that I was warm and carried on his merry way, although he did come back to check on me a few times. Was this a muggle who had seen other people here or was it a fellow cacher in disguise? Only time (or maybe the dog walking pseudo-muggle) will tell.

Didn't find the cache until after he had moved on, so if it is a muggle the secret of the cache remains safe. evil_hitman and Em_Eagle had shown up at this point, so e_h generously offered to be a landing mat(t) in case I lost my footing while snagging the cache, which was a fairly likely possibily given my caching history.

TNLN

Thanks Quasar!

Found by sbalogh53... on my own this time... no mini-mees.
This one was quite easy to find after a pleasant walk through the park. I wanted to get a few caches done today, so was going to drive to the other end but I decided to walk because it was such a nice day. I found a lovely little spot up on the eastern slope where someone had set up an old cane chair surrounded by an old tennis net. I sat in the chair (broken), enjoying my surrounds while exploring the cache contents.
Took: Toy Rhino
Left: Aussie Koala
PS. I must go back one day with a good torch and explore the tunnel. Looks like it might be fun! Smile
PPS. There is only ONE copy of the photo left in the cache.

22/5/04 12:30PM

This was a nice walk through an unexpected linear park, you only imagine a park is what you see from the road, it's nice to be led into the interior, so to speak...
Took: wooden duck & a picture puzzle segment
Left: Eraser

Note: there are only two copies of the picture puzzle left

Tks, Quaser

Found it after a bit of a scramble. Took a crab model and left wood duck.

08-May-04
Facitman and family started our day with Rhino at this cache. Found it on 8/5/04 at 1205, easy walk in and a quick find. One slip and the shortest Facit was wet to the knee requiring shoulder ride walk back.

In: Crab toy
Out: Small Torch

Found on 08/05/05 at 1205 AEST. Found with Facitman & Family (their 2nd cache). A pleasant walk from initial coordinates resulted in a relatively easy find of the cache (after slipping past the guard ducks Smile).

IN:Rhino
OUT: Nothing

Found it at about 9:00pm. Getting the clue was faily straightforward, and then I headed of to the final location. I had a weak torch so getting there was probably harder than it needed to be, but once there a short search later and I was in possesion of puzzle piece #2 for me. Didn't have any swaps so TNLN. Also, there are only 3 pics left.
After riding past here many times I found a cache. Cheers.

24-Apr-04
Found at 23:55 hrs by myself & Em_Eagle.
Had trouble finding the phone number.
Found a very wet wallet near the cache.

Great Cache

Found it at 2355hrs.
Evil_Hitman and myself out in the cold, rain and dark again.
Nice spot.
Grabbed a clue, and otherwise, TNLN.

Thanks Quasar

Light rain and slippery grass can either scare the bejeebers out of you or help you slide straight to the cache. For me Mr.Coffee it was both. I beleive it went Ahhhh...Ohhhhhh....FFFound it.... good cache with an interesting significance. enjoyed the walk.. Thanks Quaser for the cache, suggest calling it "falling for the centre of Melbourne".
Taken picture piece and US quarter dollar. left a few items (didnt note what I left).
again thanks
Mr.Coffee

I have moved the cache slightly as many people indicated it was dangerous. It still requires a little climb, but it is best approached from the bottom. There is no need to jump the fence. Co-ordinates updated, but the old ones should still get you pretty close.

23-Mar-04
Some people from interstate might be nasty and say they already knew Melbourne had gone down the drain years ago and this cache just confirms that.

14-Mar-04
Pete almost killed himself by falling into the canyon on this one. So as a note to others, watch out for the grass just above the top – it’s slippery. Thanks Quasar for the cache. We now have the complete picture and hope to be off to the final location some time in the ‘not too distant’. Other than taking the picture piece we made no exchange.

We searched and we search but to no avail the cache was no were to be found, so we reacked our calculations and search some more but with still no success Sad

09-Mar-04
Got it! First cache found Big Grin and it was well hidden, very safe from casual observation. Left guitar pick, U.S. quarter, took photo & sharpener. Use the lower of the two phone numbers on the sign at GZ1 to get GZ2 or you'll get covered in burrs and spider webs like me.

08-Mar-04
Found by Ray and Maya at 12:30PM on the 5th of March. We are on our way to Sale for the Victorian State Square Dance convention so we took a diversion to find this cache. We made no swap but took a photo clue. Thanks from The Nomads.

Found by Chris and Julie @ 19:00
Ok, finally found this one! Only took 3 or 4 visits (I lost count after looking for so long).

If this is rated 2/2.5, we are in big trouble when we move on to the harder ones!!

And here I thought I had an original idea - 'Heart of the City - Melbourne'. This cache was pointed out to me a couple days after I placed mine here in Melbourne, Florida. Cheers.

This is the Emu Mob's 150th cache. Of all the possible hiding places, one stood out as the best, however, I didn't find the cache there until I had spent 35 minutes searching, and looked three times at the spot. Sad

Anyway, I now have two pieces of the photograph, and am still none the wiser as to the final location. Hoping the Wombles will provide enlightement, but expecting to visit the library.

IN: Pencil sharpener
OUT: Photo fragment

We didn't even know this creek existed. There were lots of possible hiding places - what Americans call "target-rich" - but we found the cache after a 5 minute search at 7:50pm. Took a part of the photo-puzzle (our first) and also the Wallace & Grommit colouring pencils and left a puzzle pen. Made a mental note to return and walk further along the creek – it looks interesting! Thanks Quasar for bringing us here. It's just as well we (really, truly) didn't read the Melbourne Water sign till after we'd completed the search. Actually the sign isn't all that easy to see (somewhat overgrown) and the writing is quite hard to read.

04-Feb-04
Found on our second visit. We almost gave up on this visit too after searching every hiding place at least 3 times but eventually had success on our fourth pass. We now have all 3 of the photo pieces and after much research on the web have identified the final location. Not too sure when we'll get there. Thanks for the challenge. Greg and Bev

02-Feb-04
Was surprised when this cache appeared. Initial waypoint is a grand total of 469 m from my study.

GPS is out of action at the moment, but we decided to go try our luck anyway, with the use of OziCE and digital melways.

Made our way to the general vicinity of the cache, and had a bit of a ferret/abseil around, but no luck. Decided to check previous logs before returning with a GPS to help next time!

30-Jan-04
Found by Mary & David at 1435. We were a bit concerned after searching for a while that the flood from all the rain yesterday and last night might have moved it. However, the Muzza help line reasuured us that we were in the right place and that we should look harder. Found the cache shortly after in a place we'd looked at before but not well enough. Took our photo piece and a plastic cactus, left motel soap. Thanks again to Quasar.

24-Jan-04
Looked in all the likely hiding places without success, We'll try again after it is next found. Greg and Bev

24-Jan-04
Collected the clues then decided to be lazy and drive to the final point. The cache was found after a 5 minute search. Found at 0756am my 3rd cache of 9 for the day. Swapped a candle for a toy. Checked out another photo piece but didn't take it as I think I know where it is.
Lovely quiet morning and not a soul around.
Thanks Quasar now to find the cache that matches the picture.

23-Jan-04
Found it 12:20, after arriving at the start point, last night, with out the cache description and then realizing that this was an offset cache [B)] An easy find after our false start, and our 550 th to bootCool Took photo fragment, thanks Quasar.

P.S. only two photo fragments left

Found easily enough, after getting to it the hard way. Took a piece of the picture - now with two pieces, we know where we're going (didn't take anything else). But, who could resist going to play with wombles....

20-Jan-04
G'day All,
Found at 7:30 PM by "S". Lots of "Rabbitto" holes here to check. Took photo piece and 2 dice. Left dinosaur and a cactus in case he gets hungry. (ok, it's a plastic cactus but he's a plastic dinosaur so what does he careSmile).
Enough time to now get to "Spreadsheet Stash" on dark.
Thanks,
D,H,S,H & A B-A

Found at 4:20pm. You could fry an egg on these rocks after a hot day in the sun. Ms. Molly does tend to do things about face, staying in character, she has begun by securing the final piece to the puzzle and nothing else to date.
Took: Playing cards
Left: W+G colouring pencils

I seemed to look in the right spot on the first go and found the cache easily.
Took pic
No other exchange

Thanks Quasar

19-Jan-04
Found at 8:15 am on my way to work. I decided to get up a little earlier then normal and make a detour to collect the final piece of the photo before work today. Knowing that Biggles Bear might be free today Big Grin, and that it was a little too far from work to attempt at lunchtime, I decided to sacrifice some of my beauty sleep to get there.

There were lots of potential hiding spots, and I checked a few, but was a little reticent about putting my hand into some of the harder to see areas. Fortunately, I was able to spot an obvious sign in one place, and the cache was mine. As I opened it, I wondered whether Kiwideb had seen this cache and beaten me to it. Not so. (Mind you, I selfishly didn't ring her when it appeared, although she would have been at work at the time).Sad

I only took a piece of the photo, and left nothing. Thanks, Quasar, for the series of three caches and photos. Now off to ........ (sooner or later).

Dang!! Knew I shouldn't have slept in this morning Smile

19-Jan-04
Found in the dark after an hours search, a call to Muzza and another 20 mins searching. Even so I achieved my goal of beating Kiwideb to this cache, so did about 4 other people according to the log book. A workmate who I share the office with lives just a few hundred metres or less up the road from the cache, so he will be interested to learn the he is virtually the centre of Melbourne. I took the third piece of picture, so now I guess I should get the rest of them and solve the puzzle. Thanks Quasar.

P.S. I purposely didn’t look at the sign on the way down the slope.
