Trying to keep the Kea from stripping our rent-a-car while we searched for this was kind of amusing. I saw where the cache was probably located at one time, but it's not there.
Day 12 of Angel's and my tour of New Zealand. Today we started in Christchurch and drove over the pass to the western coastal town of Hokitika. We saw lots of beautiful sights and had a great time.
We looked for a few minutes but our car was under attack by several Kias so we left before they could do any damage.

Did not find with Victorious One and Captain Zed, found the perfect place for the cache though, even the rock it may have been hidden under, but sadly no cache. Also so sad to see so many people/tourists feeding the kea when there are signs everywhere saying do not feed them. Had to explain to them why you can not feed them. Our favourite bird, would hate to see them disappear further because people do not read the signs.
While I didn't expect to find it given the recent logs, we stopped anyway for a look at the view from this spot. I thought I would have a check and found the hint, but no sign of a cache. A few obvious hidey holes, and a few spots it could have slipped away into never to be seen again. Given the enthusiasm of the Keas here to attack the campervan and anything else around I wouldn't be surprised if they have been the end of this one. Thanks Moneydork.
Too cold and wet (snowing) to search for long. Couldn't find it so read the logs. Given the recent DNF's I gave up. (It may have fallen down into the hole in the rocks.)
This was our 2nd ever Cach but just couldn't find.
The area looks like there has been some vandalisim so not sure if this was a factor or that we just couldn't find it.

Found the 19 but nothing around. Just many broken glass bottles. Be careful not to get hurt.

Looked around thoroughly, even under every rock - but haven't found it. At least the hint we found though...
Had a good hunt around for this but no luck. was blowing a gale and so cold, also I was too scared to put my hand in those holes>>>>>
Great spot ,shame the weather was a bit poor. Our first NZ cache so thanks heaps. Took a TB and left our own TB in its first GZ to start its journey.
Found this one along the drive to the West Coast with my in laws. This was my father in law's introduction to caching; now he keeps asking me where the next one is. TFTF!
What an awesome cache. Kea muggles had a little too much fun with the car though, beware! They were also fascinated by the garmin. Was awesome getting so close to them.. Tftc!
Wow! What a view here - we were so distracted by the view and the kea population here, eating everything in sight, that we almost forgot the cache! Thanks for a superb location - really love this drive, thanks Moneydork.
On my way from Franz Josef to Christchurch and just couldn't pass up a cache named "Deaths Corner." Very good spot for a cache and some entertaining history. Even more entertaining were the Keas. I had read a great deal about these birds before I came to NZ, but only saw them flying in the distance, or enjoying roadkill. The cache is in good condition and the hint was extremely helpful. Wonderful way to end my trip to the South Island. Thank you.
Had little trouble to find the cache, perhaps because the keas guarded the cache. After I found the cache the keas attacted our camper van.

Easy find during our short stop on the way to Motueka (north of South Island). Lovely views over the viaduct. TFTC!
Searched on our way through to accommodation in Arthur's Pass Village, but were distracted by something that matched the clue and only had the GPS on my phone. I came back later while Jules prepared dinner and had more luck. TFTC
Windy day. Watched a couple of keas. They were busy with another car while we looked for the cache.
Found while heading over the pass. The Birds there were a bit scary but no injuries. Actually, they were pretty awesome to watch. TFTC.
The Log is pretty damp.

We pulled up at GZ to find it muggle free. Plenty of Kea's around and we followed the GPSr down towards GZ. Had a quick search and didn't find the cache. We then looked around to see 3 cheeky Kea's had not only landed on the car but were biting it (sorry Mr Hire Car company). When back to shoo them away only to turn around and find them back at it. From here we could see getting the cache would be a 2 person operation , one to search and one to guard the car. Thankfully a car of muggles appeared and the Kea's' decided they were a better bet. So we managed to search again and then soon found, SL and replaced. The old road must have been quiet a mess. TFTC

Contents were wet so did not sign log. Also carry a pen as there was not one there
on the way over to the west coast to start the Coast to Coast race.
Cache contents very soggy, sorry, no time to dry them out.

Good Clue worst part keeping Keas off my van and pushbike seat which now has holes in it - Cheerz Jumboz Mrs Jumboz say they were cute tho!
Nice view.
Met some Keas and Frank Zappa.
Thanks for the Cache.

Nice easy find - but had to be careful as there were a lot of other people there - Found it tho - Very happy!! Didn't find "Monkayo" TB??? Wonder where it's gone??
Only had a quick look as lots of muggles and the Keas where looking excited about our bike tires on the roof racks. Will take a better look next time.
When looking for this cache, make sure you keep your car in sight - cheeky Keas are waiting for an opportunity to tear any plastic or rubber parts apart. =)
BTW, the official coordinates were slightly off and we had to use the hint. But this could be our GPS unit.
Muggles are a problem as well. Keas are muggle magnet =)
Took a German TB.

Again. Because that's always fun. Keas assiduously pecking some kind of stuff off the asphalt. TFTC.
First find for the day as we head to the coast. Dropped off a wee fighter TB, to take care of the keas. Thanks for the morning view stop.
My wife and I found it after some problems with my GPS - operator error more than anything else. The clue was very handy Dropped off a tracakable and picked another one up. FTF

While fending off Keas, and waiting for a family to move on (so slow), we found the cache. Patted the wet Horse and left TB3FFCB to continue on his travels. Unsure why we'd never been here. No TB that we found in cache. TFTC.

#587: Birds Corner!
We stopped by this one on our clockwise trip around the Northern part of the South Island. This was the first place we stopped after leaving Arthurs Pass in the morning. Great view of the viaduct. The birds really are all over the place, and tried taking the roof off the car while I was looking for the cache! Was finally able to find, sign, re-hide and go!

I'm sure we were in the right place, but more than 19" of snow all around GZ. I didn't mind because the location is great and I will be back on a greener day.
A tricky find in the dark, was nearly ready to give up.
But got there in the end TFTC
Kea kept me company

Stopped to search as this was the second time over the pass and had the coords and clue this time (was going on memory before and of course it's moved). We found the clue and GZ but no sign of a box and we put our hands down every hole around. We were definitely in the same location as the picture rats44 logged.
Could not find this one but now having read the previous logs the co-ords had changed and of course that does not show up with a route and query never mind.
Beautiful day and fantastic view as always! Remember the old road well and are glad it has been upgraded! Very impressive bit of engineering.....The keas were circling so didn't hang round for too long. TFTC No sign of the TB that has been logged in here.
Found easily with fotomacc on cycle tour. One of my favourite parts of NZ and indeed the world.
we could take some good photo;s of the nearby kea. The cache was found easily with the hint
Thanx

Decided to have another look on our way home. Weather awesome this time. Found cache 2 m from 19. Looks like it is the old cache as three people have signed it recently and before that it was signed in 2006.
Not at 19 but the bridge was awesome even though it was pouring with rain. Our first time here. An amazing feat of engineering.
Great spot to stop to think about the drive up the old road!
Liked the clue and hide - tftc

Na, na nineteen...no find, looks like it might have been muggled, went for obvious spot, but no cash....
Not sue if we found the correct cache. The one we found had its last log entry in 2006 (and it was a bit wet). I have added a photo of the area very close to where the cache was found. I wonder what muggles think when they see a person head down in a rocks and their partner whispering to them "muggle coming".
A little chilly up there today so not to many people hanging around and those that did stop tended to stay in the car or take snaps quickly and then leave. Found the cache between quick muggle visits. TFTC
How inconsiderate... a muggle turning up and a using the rest stop next to GZ... just as we were about to commence our hunt... Nevertheless, there were awesome views of the many waterfalls.
We were lucky to have some minutes without any Muggels.
Nice spot for watching Keas!

Co'ordinates were a bit hay wire at first telling me to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff.
This was due to low cloud i think but found it anyway.
I wander how tourists could miss a cache in such an obvious spot.

tried this one a few days ago but could not get iphone reception. Came back with GPS. So much easier
I really can't imagine that the road once went down here, I'm glad the new road is now in place. First I was looking at the wrong nineteen, but once the correct lnumber was determined it was an easy find.

A great cache spot. We all enjoyed stopping here. The Keas certainly were certainly ‘cheeky’. The view of the viaduct was spectacular. I have driven both the old and new routes. One up for progress here I think. TNLN SL TFTC
A quick find, though we had trouble evading the many muggles! Worth stopping at the next scenic stop too to view the waterfall over the road. TFTC.
We found 19, but no cache anywhere. Maybe muggles, maybe slid away in the heavy rains, or maybe we just could not find it.
27/12/10 3:51 PM Find #227. I've wanted this cache for a long time. Found in a fierce rain storm with streams of water flowing off the mountains. Love it here TFTC!
First went to this location without realising it held a cache. Re-visited on Xmas Day - nice spot and as everyone seems to say, be aware of the Keas trying to eat your car,
The rented campervan was struggling up the various hills to get here. I wonder how it -- and the nervous driver! -- would have enjoyed the old road "that used to zigzag across the shingle slide"!
Having never travelled this road before found the viaduct etc just stunning took heaps of photos - imagine the old road was "fun" a bit like the old Napier- Taupo road in the North Island that I still remember travelling as a young child stunning view from the lookout and once muggles moved on a quick find - signed log and replaced before next group of muggles arrived - thanks for bringing us here
Arrived here to find muggles so took the oppotunity to take some pictures of the area and keeping watch on a kea intent on stripping someone elses car. Problem was as they chased it from theres it went to ours!! managed to chase it off and then grab the cache inbetween muggles and kea visits. Would love to have travelled the old road as well but the new viaduct is an amazing piece of engineering. TFTC and bringing us to this spot.
Nice quick find at Deaths Corner. Great view, and the usual locals (keas) were hanging about. TFTC!!!
First time back here since the new bridge went in. Miss the old road. Got back to the car in time to stop a Kea getting into the car through the open door, It did not want to go away. TFTC
Bad GPS signal, so it was problem for me find this cache, but I found it. Thanks. OUT-TB
Easy to find, nice view and the weather was good! And we could took a funny picture because one of the keas wanted to come into our camper through the skylight. In: TB Jungfrau cog-wheel
