I'd been here quite a number of years (~30) ago and it was nice to visit again. Though I found the cache container, 3 metres now the hill, it had been muggled. There was nothing left inside except for a pen and an empty plastic bag. Brought the container back with me.
Every time you get up close to one of these old Kauri trees its a very humbling experience don't you think.
Anyway, very straight forward find, but I think previous cachers have got their co-ordinates muddled. Beautiful day today with 7 satellites at the GZ giving a reading of S36 59.408 and E175 34.298, whereas the co-ordinates for the cache on the listing gave a reading of 200 metres SE from the viewing platform!!!
Thanks

Have amended the co-ords slightly as several visitors have commented they were a bit out.
I wanted to drop of this virtual TB to this nice place because me myself with my wife really visited here at christmasstime 2004. We actually spend three weeks in New Zealand and enjoyed a lot !!
This place is probably not the best place for Penquin but im sure that he will go on quite soon !
P.S. I saw real penquins at Charlene Tiltons underwater world -place

I had a phone call from my cousin yesterday saying she & her boyfriend found this cache by accident. They signed the log but said the contents were very wet. Perhaps this one needs a maintanace visit?
Site coords appear to have been read at the upper car park, 20 m above the one-way bridge and 26 m from the entrance to the track; this may explain some of the discrepancies reported. Coords of Square Kauri visitor deck read on eTrex and are reported above with usual tolerance. The cache contained 100 ml or so of water inside due to resting partly on its side without the plastic clip-lock bag, which had fallen apart due to UV degradation and was lying nearby. Fortunately the log book was still dry inside a small clip-lock bag, but instruction sheet has become unreadable and probably the Chatham Island forget-me-not seeds will be rotten. No replacement bag available so replaced the container in flat position. Nothing taken; nothing left.

A lovely walk (climb) with Japanese student Yuto. Took whistle and Left Rubber.
It seems we did not get a good fix on this - unfortunatly we are in New Plymouth and can't check on it for a while. If anyone gets a good fix please E-mail us to allow us to make the co-ords more accurate. Meanwhile try S 36 59.416 E 175 34.296 as noted by a previous finder or use the hints until we get there.
After reading people who logged after me( non finders do not normally comment) I believe the Coords are so far off as to make a joke of GeoCaching.
Needs to be fixed or removed from our sport.

Found it quick after a heavy climb. A beautiful view from the cache place. Although my GPS gave a dislocation of 130 mtr we found it anyway.
Thanks for this beautiful cache.

Found it without description, hints and coordinates, just by knowing that there is a cache nearby. Phew, lucky!
Our 13th find on our tour thru N.Z.!

Made a mad dash up the stairs as there was quite a few cars gathering in the carpark. Went as far as we could go but GPS was out by about 120 - 130 mtrs (noted in previous log). Followed the hint and found it without any problems. Could hear people coming up so grabbed the TB and quickly stashed the container back to where it was. Fantastic tree and view!!! Thanks.
As I read now the coords were way off. Thanks for a close look at a wonderful tree, but the cache disappointed.
My GPS said 80 metres up thru the supplejack - please correct your cache - I came nearly 7000 miles to get this!

Took the shortcut dirt road, wow quite the drive! We enjoyed the little rest going up the 189 steps (and down 7 more steps!) to the beautifull Kauri tree.
Took some nice pictures.
Took 2 batteries (always helpfull for the GPS!)
Letf cute bottle opener and TB Fiona.

Nice place! Perfect stopover when crossing the forest. On site we had to wait out three French muggles who had a looong conversation before we could start looking. Quick find, but the coordinates were way off! Some 120 meters I think or was that just my GPS? You can't really get to the wrong place but I've attached the coordinates that my GPS suggested anyway.
Thanks for a great cache!

This is cache is one of the caches that make geocaching so much fun. If this cache was not here, I would never have seen this magnificently located tree! As I read in previous logs, some people are overwhelmed by this enormous fallus symbol... Thank you very much for locating this cache here!
There was quite an unusual cache note from a recent muggle find which said "30/1/05 Ngahere Wahine - 'The Bush Girls': Cooked a boil up, made a biv-wac, stayed the night and had sex. Enjoy life to the fullest in respecting all living things - Arohana"
They must have got the date wrong as I visited on the 29th but it sounds like they had a fun night up near the tree?
Thanks. TNLN

Travelled into this one during a day trip up the Coromandel with Kaimaikid. TN SL & Left 4 x AA Alkaline batteries. Thanks
Fourth for the day. Mum found this one too. I just work the GPS. Pretty serious tree, well worth the detour.
Left Pen, Took Keyring and Travel Bug.

Went there again to drop off TB Oahu Gypsy as where I wanted to go up Castle Rock was gone
Lovely winters day - just a bit windy, that's all. Well hidden, but faith prevailed.

Easy walk up to the tree, small steps which was good for my bad leg. Low cloud and rain so no views. Road better for the MB than it was last time I drove it 23 years ago.
No swop.

This one I was the first to find. 11 yr old daughter and friend helped. Took camera and left corbua key clip.
Great spot here about 3 weeks ago. Friend was a first time seeker. Weather and track good
