Looked everywhere didnt see it

Searched all the obvious spots, no luck even with a spoiler photo on a previous find showing what we were looking for... here for a few more days so might try again if we succeed in a paf

Spending a relaxing 3 days at Herron Point and thought why not take a walk over to the island to find the cache. I made it 3/4 of the way before water was up to my neck and as Im not a confident swimmer said to hubby that we should turn back. He said for me to go back to shallower water and he would go and find it. So without me he head off, made it to the island and eventually found the cache and signed the log. TFTC and workout

22-Apr-23
We broke a oar to get here, but it was worth it!

02-Apr-23
Thanks for the cache, nice paddle from Herron Point

20-Jan-23
Bit of a hunt, no bricks.

05-Jan-23
A local assured me I would not encounter any bull sharks on the low tide so off I paddled from Herron Point on my hired kayak. A few dolphins were splashing around and it was an enjoyable crossing. Nil spiders and nil mozzies on the island! Timed it right and was back on the mainland before the wind picked up and the mercury got too high. Many thanks for this unique cache.

29-Aug-22
Geo hubby jumped into his kayak and paddled across to the spider island, he thinks it should be mozzi island! Imagine his surprise when the cache was right beside a tent. Imagine the faces on the people laying inside, with the tent wide open, completely naked! The things you see geocaching !!
TFTC ps. It was an easy find

Bit of an adventure through water with crabs and cache needs service

06-Mar-22
Family kayak trip from Herron Point. Water was a touch shallow but we made it across. Circled gz, disturbing the spiders and mozzies before we had the cache in hand. Logbook is dry, but will get wet as autumn kicks in,as the container lid is missing a piece. Found with Redrobbin25. TFTH

19-Feb-22
I swam from the nearby beach with my friend and his dad. To do this we used a kayak.

Doesn't really need maintenance but the lid is broken and lots of ants in the log I couldn't log the book.

Thanks for recent info - I will try and get out there in near future to repair cache

28-Oct-21
A combo of swim and walk got me to spider island from Herron point! What an adventure! The cache is perished and completely waterlogged- I wish I had something to replace it with but alas I do not! Hopefully the next cachet can bring a new container and log book!

I recently acquired a little tinnie and said that I wanted to try and find a cache via my boat. I figured this would be a good one to be the first. Awesome trip out here from Mandurah great cache and it’s a lovely day as well. Cache container lid has perished the contents are still dry at the moment though.

TFTC, long slushy walk out. But lovely destination and thankfully found the cache!

21-Dec-18
I tried to walk to the island from Heron Pt at low tide. I gave up about half way across as there is a channel that I wasn’t prepared to cross as I didn’t know how deep it might get and I had no protection for my phone if I had to swim, even a short distance,

Thanks for giving us a reason to visit this cool little island. Now I have to paddle back!

Been meaning to tick this one off our list for a few YEARS now. Found while on a lazy Sunday cruise in the boat with a few friends. Lots of birds eggs around so be careful when walking through the vegetation. Tftc!

At last, the kayaks are purchased, the trailer is built, the foot has healed & the planets are aligned, time to go to Spider Island! We met up with WebblyWA at Island Point & paddled across to the Island. There was a bit of a breeze that wanted to push us off to the starboard, but nothing we could not handle. To be honest I think you could walk all the way from this side but we have bought the flipping kayaks (and one amongst us paid a high price for the trailer) so we were determined to use them. All three of us trekked to the centre of the island & made our mark on the log. TFTC the Explorer Have a fave for the adventure.

Was hanging out at home doing chores when I get a phone call from PP2 - "Want to go to Spider Island?"
How could I say no. So I drop everything for the better offer and get m4yb's yak out which I have stolen, its not like she needs it in the Red Centre anyway. Things were on my side it even fitted inside of my Troopie Beastie which meant no strapping down required.
Made the trek down on the busy freeway and met up with the PP2 team on the quieter Island point side.
We unloaded the yaks and set paddle to the island. After crossing the weeded passage I decided it was time to give the arms a break and the legs a work out so jumped ship and set for shore on the island, only came across one killer blowfish along the way. Once we landed the cache was only a hop step and a duck (the CO didn't name it Spider Island for no reason). A quick find from the male in the group and it was time to turn around and make the uneventful trek back. I started walking but my Yak wouldn't heal so I decided to ride it back the rest of the way. TFTC and the fun times The Explorer have a fav point from me because this is what caching is all about.

GCHVH2 Spider Island has been on my geocaching bucket list like FOREVER (well, ever since PommieParkin2 mentioned it to me last Sunday) and I'm quite stoked to say that I can tick this one off that list. Driving back to Perth after a few glorious days in Busselton, the kids were seconds away from killing each other (or perhaps it was me who was seconds from killing them) when I pulled off Forrest Hwy to give them all a piece of my mind and to threaten them with having to find a geocache. Well, what do you know, that road just happened to lead to Heron Point Reserve, and one kilometre out in the estuary, was Spider Island!! I left the kids murdering each other in the shallows and set off determined (and 8% battery left on my phone). No blowfish spotted today, and only one (sized, but unfortunately very dead) crab, I was able to walk all the way with the exception of crossing a relatively deep channel where I had to dog paddle for 10 or do metres with my phone and pen between my teeth. Accompanying me on my swim were not one but four beautiful dolphins, surfacing and diving in unison like synchronized swimmers, about two metres from me. I nearly choked on my phone in shock and astonishment. The cache was a quick find once on the island (the phone battery lasted long enough to take a happy snap) and I returned to shore one very happy cacher! Favourite Point and TFTC Smile

TFTC! Had a mission today. Day trip to Bunbury to complete some goals, some more important than others! We had a couple of archived caches to grab, one in dardanup and another south of Mandurah. The second was a cache to fill a square in our jasmer grid in the Wellington Forrest and the third a little less (or more) caching related depending on how you look at it, collecting steves pillow He left at our accomodation from last weeks mega caching weekend.

We met in Byford this morning, heading down South West Highway towards Harvey where we had a couple of caches near Harvey dam to collect which we didn't have time to grab on the way home from our trip on the weekend. All found relatively quickly except for running out of reception as one of us, who is in charge of the days list and saving offline etc forgot to do!!

We made our way around coming down to pickup bowling C our archived cache which was on better condition than most active caches I've seen lately, if I must say.

We then went down and grabbed Lenard Zinn cache which fills in yet another jasmer grid for us, we've nearly maxed out our potential squares we can fill in WA without venturing to the Northwest.

We then moved our attention to the leschenault peninsula and a few older caches on the list there which have always been in the too hard basket. Unfortunately we were left with a locked gate which meant we had to leave three behind as it was getting late in the day and we didn't have time to complete the 14km return walk from the potential parking spot.

We then were on the home stretch towards Mandurah where a cache Steve always had his eye on lives, the legendary "spider island", a lovely cache by "the explorer", love their hides. A nice walk exactly a kilometre from shore and a nice quick find once we got into the middle of the island.

I do recall having the mickey taken out of me for wearing "me swimming shoes", but only one of us was laughing when the other was complaining about stepping on and getting bitten by all these crabs in the area! Should bring a net back I think!!

Thanks to the local COs for an awesome day out. Only 20odd caches, not a huge day for numbers, but a good day for the stats. Thanks

TFTC! A nice spot to stop and check out. This a big lunch box and needs more swapables in it! Looking rather lonesome. Left a Woolworths Jack and Jill card in there. Wish I bought a few more things to put it.

Took the kayak out for a paddle to grab this one. Probably should have just walked. I lost count of all the blowfish I saw. Great little place for a cache. Thanks.

Out with dodgie82, he's very grumpy as we had to tow the boat over. My 1300th find. Left TB to continue its journey.

Checked the tides and wind strength for Mandurah but discovered it doesn't relate to the Harvey Estuary!
We left from the Dawesville side because it seemed a bit closer to home but it looks like the island is in the middle between there and Heron Point on the other side.

Tide was still quite low so had to pull the canoes for some of the way and the return journey took 3 times as long as going over due to the strong breeze. Still a better experience than some earlier logs described. Spiders were not an issue but concern for snakes was.....would there be any on an island ?

Easy find and great views. Forgot to take the children's swaps but left a couple of other things. Hopefully the next people to make the trip will take some things for swaps to fit this regular size box. Maybe things more suitable for older geocachers would be better.

Thanks for the cache Explorer. Another place we wouldn't have known existed but for geocaching.

Luna Maya, Ooh Yeh and I had headed out for a boys day caching.
It was kayaks today and have had a ball.
When we got here, we were expecting to unpack them and paddle off again but the tide was low so we decided to walk.
Had seen the cache was in need of some TLC so on the way, a quick drop into IGA.
We walked out to the island, with a fresh container and fresh log book.
Soon at GZ, we found what remained of the old container and log. Replaced with a brand new Sistema. Sorry we didn't have time to paint it Smile
I also left a Kyzabra tag for the next finder.

A great day out with Kyzabra and Mr Luna Maya with the canoes got to the launch site to find the water to low for the paddle out so we decided to walk the 1.1km to the site .....found the cache and replaced it with a new container (good deed for the day Smile ) TFTC and the leg exercise as I dodged the crabs on the way back .....

12-Jan-14
Cache in need of more than a little TLC.

11-Jan-14
This one had been on my radar since I first started caching, but I kept putting if off, and putting it off, ad infinitum. But today was the day. The weather forecast was for 44 degrees, but there was a low tide early this morning, so off we went to Island Point. Got down there an hour and a half after the predicted low tide, but the water was still low, so into the water we went.

It took about half an hour each way, so nowhere as difficult as I had envisaged. Have to admit being disappointed that we didn't even get our knees wet, either on the walk over or on the way back. Only saw one crab too. But we did find the cache, so smiley earned on this one finally.

Cache itself is in a very sad state, and I didn't read the previous logs before going, so didn't take a replacement cache with me. Log was soggy, but managed to find moonlightz log, and scratched our initials there too.

Thanks for the adventure The Explorer

12-Sep-13
Any one interested in doing this cache in the next couple of months ie Sep to Nov 2013.
If a few people are interested I will look for a low tide on a free weekend and hope for a warm day.
I think I can get access to a couple of kayaks as well.

Top spot for a feed of crab. I remembered there was one around here on an island. Checked the phone and went for it. The bag containing the log was full of water, the container was also full. Didn't come with anything to help but it will require maintenance.

Returned to the area with iluvtrekking to make another attempt on this cache. Although the weather had looked promising earlier, by the time we arrived in the car park it was drizzling and the breeze had come up. The two geo-men decided that the conditions were decidedly better than on our last visit so pressed ahead and headed out on the kayaks. It was a hard slog getting to the island and once there found that the cache container was full of water. Owner will need to do urgent maintenance. Well and truly soaked through by the time we arrived back at the cars. A great adventure nevertheless so we thank you Explorer.

Cache needs urgent attention.

02-Sep-12
We return, kitted out with surf ski & kayak.

When we left home this morning the weather looked promising, sun shining an no wind. By the time we reached the car park near GZ the breeze was up and it was drizzling with rain.

It's been a long time since geohubby has been on his surf ski, but fearlessly the geomen set off on their adventure battling the wind and tide. They located the cache quickly once on the island but it was full to the top with water, Urgent Maintenance Required if this cache it to survive.

12-Aug-12
With the surf skis stashed on the roof of the cruiser we set out for Mandurah in anticipation of a pleasant, relaxed 1km paddle to Spider Island.

Unfortunately, the one thing we forgot arrange was some decent weather. Instead, when we arrived at the launching pad it was in gale force winds and slashing rain. I swear that the waves were a good couple of feet high, no joke, we could hardly even see the island. [xx(]

Needless to say we just looked from the car, looked at each other and made a hasty retreat. We will return another day, this time we will order a beautiful sunny sping morning - no wind.

It was a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon, so wot and I went out on our jetskis from Mandurah to find a couple of caches. He'd already found this one a long time ago, and now I can finally tick this one off, too! Found it pretty easily, cache was dry but the lid is a little broken. The plastic bag that it's in seems to be keeping it dry enough though.

We have been on at Geodad for a few months to do this cache, as we knew where it was because we had taken the horses for a swim at the end of Heron Point road.

In order to get the message across to the Geoparents how much we wanted to do this, Geosister bought Geobrother an inflatable boat for Christmas. Then we continued harrassing and finally, we did it!

It was too shallow to paddle from the Heron Point Road side of the estuary, so Geosister had to pull the Geobrother in his boat to Spider Island. Apart from when we hit a channel, Geosister had to hop in the boat and paddle, then get out and pull to the next channel.

When we arrived safe and sound on the island, Geosister realised that the cache was not listed in the 'Geocaches' page, and she forgot a copy of the coordinates, which were back on land in the car with Geodad. So, we began looking under each tree/ bush because we remembered the hint. Eventually, Geobrother found it in Geosister's GPSr and we were away. A quick find by Geosister. Cache definetly needs maintenance- it was full of rusty water.

On the way back, Geobrother spotted some dolphins in the channel we were approaching. Now, we usually stick to pools, so have no experience in these sorts of situations. So Geosister paddled her life away in fear. The dolphins actually turned around from the way they were going and came back to our boat, where they proceeded to swim around and under our boat. Lucky Geosister saw them, otherwise they would have been accidentally bopped on the head with an oar!

She also scared Geobrother by telling him they are powerful enough to kill sharks, so we both were trying to get to land as quick as possible.

Thankyou, The Explorer for this cache, it was a really fun expedition!

wow -what a walk out to the island, shallow on the way out,up to the knees, but got the deeper part of the channel on the way back, gps stayed dry, while the 'crew' sat on dry land with the camera. log is wet and needs a new one. Out with Vintage44 TFTC

07-Mar-10
This one has been on my wishlist for a long time. Well, decided to take the plunge today (literally). I came in from Heron Pt, and waded, without a kayak or boat. Most of the way was pretty shallow, except for one spot about halfway out, which was a channel about 1.3m deep. The water running through here had a really strong current, and I could hardly keep my footing. Apart from that it was easy going. Reached the island in no time, and made a quick find.

The plastic bag around the cache has virtually disintegrated, and the box itself is starting to break on one corner of the lid. I covered this corner well with the remains of the bag, but the next person out here may want to take a replacement box if possible.

There was lots of bird life out today, and lots of activity in the water too from little fishes. Don't recall seeing any spiders... perhaps 1 Christmas spider, that was all. Thanks for the fun cache.

09-Jan-10
Our first visit here and we were happy to see only one spider. We brought the kayaks but ended up pulling them most of the way as the tide was quite low. Many muggles present in the estuary today as it appears to be a great place for crabbing. We will be back, possibly next weekend!

09-Jan-10
We had a nice paddle out with the kayaks, although the water was so shallow, we could have walked most of the way.
Saw quite a few people out crabbing but we didn't have time or gear to stop for crabs.

We stopped at Heron point for lunch then four of us set out in the two Kayaks (Crissie Presents) for the Island. Once there it was a nice easy find with only one spider spotted. We then continued on to Island point and saw the cars pulling up as we approached the shore.

Thanks for fantastic trip

FINALLY! After all the years I've had my eye on this cache, I have finally found it! Woohoo!

It was many years ago I almost walked across from the west side but my friend chickened out.

So finlly, on a cold windy morning and thanks to my long caching partner wot, we travelled to the island from Dawesville via jetski. Yes, jetski. It's extreme geocaching, haha.

Cold. Windy. Soaked through. And some of the most fun caching I've had. It's how you get to the X, after all. Smile

So - thanks for the cache!

Big Grin At Last!! This cache has long been on my 'to do' list but for many reasons have been unable to get here until today. We came by boat from the north afer having lunch at the Jolly Frog at The Cut, making it a full day of boating activities. We were unable to get closer than about 400m to the island because of the tide, so trousers were rolled up and off we waded.

Rescued Anti-Micro-Otics GC to move on elsewhere... AND...
Twisted Found a real cool cache to put in Totodile, where he will hopefully enjoy all the spiders for many days to come! Razz

Thanks very much for the adventure, Explorer!

Just re-logging the caches I have done under a different team name (3BlindEyes).

When we arrived at the beach, our first thought was that the cache was on the little island to the south, just off shore. But we were surprised to find it was the one way off out in the water when the GPS said it was "1km away"! Seeing several people in the distance walking around in knee deep water looking for crabs, I assumed it would be easy enough to wade to the island, just like Penguin Island off Rockingham, just twice the distance! As it turned out, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves wading over to the island. Was quite warm today, so walking through water was very pleasant, even having a dip every now and then to cool down. Left the GPS in the car and took a camera instead. Saw a Blue Manna crab half way across and tried to catch it but he got me! With a bleeding finger from a sharp serated claw, I gave up!
Scouted around the small island for the cache, and my nephew Ben soon found it. Spider Island? What spiders? On the way back, Ursula quite enjoyed floating and having me tow her through the water.
TN-LN-SL. Thanks for bringing us to a great spot Explorer. Loved it!

This cache has been on my to - do list since it was placed. After planned for the right time, tide, and warm weather, the day had come for our action. Everlasting and I finally made to the Spider Island (Egg Island) by wading all the way from Heron Point. There were a couple of the chest deep short channels – most of them were ankle deep all the way across a couple of shallow sand bars. There were lot of blowfish swimming away from us while we waded. Agreed with Team Red Roo’s comment. A couple of the large branches had been chopped off the tree where the cache is. A frying pan has been placed next to the hidden cache. Be quick to find this cache before it disappeared. Took nil and left a Jeep and a calling card. This trip was our highlight for the day and fun was had by all! Now it’s your turn, come on, Devar and Wot. Big Grin Thanks for fun and challenge, The Explorer.

15:30. It was a good fun to wade to the island and back with Varuna. I really enjoyed it. TNLNSL. Thanks for the hunt.

This was my third trip out to this spot (the last two in mid winter), but this time I came prepared for it. I had checked for a low tide and a warm day and with 29 degrees and low tide just after lunch meant that today was the day. The cache was found easily and intact, though some of the locals have been using the tree as firewood (looks like kids have been camping out there). I recommend this cache to everyone, but because of the kids, I suggest that you all get there quickly, before the cache is discovered. T: Miss Piggy (and left the pearls), L: set of AA batteries, SL. Thanks to the Explorer for the cache and the fun.

Yep... you are definately going to get wet feet... whether you go by boat or wade out from the mainland!

Not too many Spiders at this time of year. I think we annoyed a couple of territorial orange beaked birds.

Have renamed this Spider Island (as suggested by TLC) as I have just realised there was already a Treasure Island listed.

We waded our way from Island point after finding Geocachers paradise. It's approx 1 km (each way) of wading through waist deep water. I should cancel my gym membership and do this each week Smile
Loved the solitude and maybe it should be renamed Spider Island the place is alive with 'em (see photo). There is a lot of evidence of some small marsupial or rodents digging on the island but we didn't see what made the holes. Tread lightly when exploring the island.
Took - Map CD, Left - Snoopy.
Thanx for a great hunt Explorer's

4.00 PM: We thought we would have to be the first finders for this cache but Team Landcruiser beat us to the site. We drove down to Heron point to have a look but decided that the tide was on the way in and that the time it took for us to do the journey would have us swimming on the return leg. So we chickened out and went back to Mandurah to borrow a boat off a friend. We returned and launched the 10 footer with a 3 horse motor into a bit of a brisk headwind and about a foot of chop. The trip across was easy as we figured it was best to stay away from the low islands to prevent hitting the bottom of the estuary with the propeller and the little boat was more seaworthy that in looked. We got within 80 metres of the island before we had to turn off the motor and walk the boat in the rest of the way. We were surprised to find the there were tyre marks on the small beach we had arrived at. Who in their right mind would drive a car (4WD) out to here, but maybe Alan (Nissan) would be willing to give it a go too. 1 km in an open estuary seems risky to us if the tide turns fast but some guys just have to drive all the way. We found the cache with no problems and dodged most of the spiders that were spinning webs. We then sat down with the ants and wrote out cache entry. We placed the log book in a zip lock bag for the owners and also put the whole box in a plastic bag so it doesn’t get wet this winter. Out: Snoopy In: Gum nut person. There is also a caravan park nearby that is council run with minimal services but its only about $6 per night so it sounds like a bargain to us. Great cache and certainly worthy of a top 10 rating if we had a rating system, we certainly recommend doing it.
