Now this is a top quality cache! Just breathtaking views - thanks for showing me the way to this Big Grin. Couldn't quite figure out the cache name - until later on! Wink

05-Jun-05
A great view, and a great day to enjoy it. A pity, and quite strange that dogs are banned, considering the fencing up there. The horde of kids with us were hard to keep quiet- we hope that the muggles above weren't too curious what all the fuss was about. TNLN, Thanks.

The only other time I've been here (some years ago) there was a howling wind that made walking difficult. Guess what? It was the same today and reading the earlier entries it sounds like it's always like that here! There certainly wasn't a wind like that elsewhere in the city. Last time I came at this from a different direction and if I recall correctly the land owner cut off access for a while. The new track needs some maintenance- the gorse is horrific! TNLN. TFTC.

06-Mar-05
Definitely an energetic walk up! Started to get dark as we left, but we got a good view of the Port from the top. The gf found the cache fairly quickly once we found the right spot.

- teddy bear keying
+ (another) compass keyring.

TFTC! Mike.

This is the most terrifying cache I ever found. I lay beneath a rock, hiding from the screaming wind, waiting for JM to find the cache. I was sure she had blown off the cliff. Finally, I faced the gale-force winds to squeeze through the wind tunnel to check for her body before going back to Singapore alone. How to explain it to her parents? Then I hear JM screaming, "Spa Susi", "Spa Susi" from behind the rock. She hadn't blown off, there wasn't really a cliff, she had the cache. Crazy the things we do for geocache, right?

We decided to find one last cache before leaving the peninsula. What a cache it was. The wind was blowing gale force by the time we got here. This hike up was hard, and when we got there, my gps was pointing me through the wind tunnel at the side of the rock. I tried a couple of times and finally fought the gale to get in front of the monument, only to find no cache. I was about to give up when I found the cache about 80 feet from where my gps was pointing me, fairly exposed. In the mean time, Spa Susi was worried I had blown off the mountain so she had pressed through the wind tunnel to find me. Finally we found each other and made our exchange. We took a Scotland keychain and left a virtual pet key chain. We picked up the virtual pet keychain in Akaroa and I made the mistake of waking it up before we left. Demanding little thing. Too much for us. Hopefully someone else will pick it up soon and make a better parent for it.

Raining and blowing a gale; however well worth the effort. You will never find a better cache site. The view, the history, the pride, it is all there. Well done. Took Canada, left Scotland. Many thanks.

24-Oct-04
Very well hidden. We looked for this one a couple of weeks ago but didn't find it then. We had to look at the clue to get this one.
Took the busy bee and left a tiki
Great views. haven't been up there for years.

We found it an arduous climb up to this one, due mainly to the prickly gorse bushes. Ouch! Once there, a fast find but we spent a lot longer taking in the vista. TNLN.

Well, we found this cache about a month ago, but didn't log it then, a bit slack but not as slack as with the flagstaff and aramoana beach caches (which I found about a year ago but didn't log then [|)] ).
Took bottle opener
Left buzzy bee pencil sharpener key ring.
Finally a cache with something useful in it!!!
cheers
Michael

Great drive out to this one. Snow all over the hills, Very cold with the wind whipping up the harbour!!
Danile ran up the hill leaving a slightly puffed Ritchie behind and had it found by the time we got there!!
No exchange

08-Aug-04
Found it easily thank goodness as the wind was icy cold - luckily the monument provided good shelter. Track was very bad - a pity it's difficult to get to this important site. Took a karabiner ring and left behind a Scottish piper key ring, given to us by our friend Annette for the cache. Thanks for the trip!

#63 Great spot for a cache and worth the short but steep climb up. Took the thermometre to see how cold it gets down here in the South, and left a gun (seemed appropriate!)

Thanks

A lovely afternoon for a walk, although the ground was a little boggy underfoot. I enjoyed seeing the cows on the other side of the fence (thank goodness).
- casino dice keyring
+ Big Byte keyring

25-Apr-04
Decided that today (Anzac Day) was the perfect day to be visiting this cache location. Ended up heading up a little late in the day, the sun had already set, but found the cache (just). Did not have a keyring so made no exchange. Coming back down the track was a bit of an experience in the dark so we decided that the cache down the road (at the gun emplacements) would have to be put off until the next time in Dunedin.
Great location GSVNFA,
Cheers

The track was very slippery and muddy. We were in the clouds - the view was completely obscured by the clouds rolling in.
Swapped a flower keyring for a geocaching keyring
Thanks

Running out of time between business meetings.
Quickly grabbed the cache and then took off to my next appointment. Very nice spot.

I used to flat across the harbour from here back in my student days. Often looked across at the monument, but this was the first time I ever actually visited it.

Went up the long way from Tomahawk Lagoon (see "From Sea to Silverpeaks" for a full description) with some family friends. Found it quite easily, once I had persuaded myself that my GPSR was a tad off and that the cache was not somewhere in the nearby farmer's fields!

Took the squishy kiwi torch and photos of the family, left a karabiner key ring.

11-Mar-04
Easily found but an unexpected cow amongst the flaxes startled me Big Grin
Great views
Cold wind tonight (6.40 pm)

Took - Surfboard
Left - "Lets Go Geocaching" customised keyring.

Thanks GSVN
