Heading home to Brisbane after the Clear Waters Mega, with a geocache laundry list carefully compiled for collection Big Grin. A webcam is always must-collect, so I've been excited with anticipation to come see this one, so the detour off my route home was a worthwhile diversion.

It was a beautiful day, and the coastal scenery is stunning. I managed to get a usable shot after only about 5 minutes, look for me in the bottom right of shot holding an umbrella!

Webcam photo taken at 12:22. Thanks for the experience and the smilie  **Mix**

For the end of 2018, I'm embarking on a road trip with my plus one, Grace. We're gone from 22 to 29 December, covering 2500km between Brisbane, Tenterfield, Tamworth, Katoomba, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Grafton and back again. I had carefully planned out a select few geocaches which resulted in 24 finds for the trip. This is day five and we're leaving Katoomba after two nights in the Blue Mountains and heading for the coast! Of all the geocaches on my shortlist, this was in the top two priorities for the entire trip.

But why is an archived Webcam in my list? My close geocaching mates were down south on a trip that I unfortunately couldn't join them for. Prime, Crew 153, Fangsoki and I all get jollies from archived finds, especially those with several thousand days between finds. And a rare type like this - unbelievably rare. But they sniffed it out and it came to my attention. Of course, I wasn't the only one who noticed it's availability. But then a reviewer locked the listing for whatever reason and that was that.

Only days before I was leaving for my trip, it was noted the unheard of had happened, this had become unlocked. Available for not only finding legitimately, but logging online as well! I wonder what brought on the sudden sensibility. With no idea how long it would stay unlocked, I was both excited and nervous about finding it. So after days out west and in the mountains, then about an hour stuck in suburban Sydney traffic, Swansea Heads provided a welcome change of pace. It's salty and breezy and the blue of the ocean has felt so distant for days!

What a magnificent place it is here. A bit of dirt road had us at the parking area. I'd stalked the immediate surrounds on satellite view, most of which I had interpreted incorrectly, but none of it mattered. I spent some time getting the listing up on my GPSr, my phone and making sure the webcam was active. The [link Pprime supplied](https://www.coastalwatch.com/surf-cams-surf-reports/nsw/swansea) is good. It's the original view and active! It was all looking good. I'm super excited now.

Together we headed for the flagpole and shielding my phone screen from the sun I waited and watched and anticipated the sweeping of the webcam. A glimpse of the top of a head was my first indication of where I needed to be. The base of the flagpole and the seat were just too low. I debated getting down onto the beach, but that wasn't quite right for this geocache.

In the end I was perched on a post over the fence. While there, comparing the webcam to a boat in the seaway, I worked out it had a few minutes delay. I hadn't waved or done anything silly by the time I appeared on my screen. *screenshot!!* I grabbed a lot of them, all clearly showing me. OH YES!!! Got it! I'm busting to upload those now! I settled for just messaging Fangsoki with pride until I can log it properly.

As it turns out, this is my third ever webcam find. All three have been archived at the time of me finding them. While it's been months since the last visit here, it is the least 'unloved' of those three finds. But in a magnificent place, as legitimate as you could ever hope and I thoroughly loved the contrast of scenery getting here, the experience of making the find happen and enjoying the location it brought me to. It's still here and available to be found. May it remain available to be logged and unlocked also. Thanks for this webcam, Mix Smile

What a cracking view from GZ.

Once we’d enjoyed the scenery we took it in turns to increase our individual elevation and used a bright brolly as a prop to make ourselves stand out !

Great fun

Oh yeah! Snooping around some logs from the recent Mega and I discovered this archived webcam cache being descended upon. Can't really count it for anything in terms of challenges of course as it's loong archived but going to deffo claim it nonetheless! How many of these are there in Aus.. maybe five??!

I whizzed down there early this morning on my way up to Tahlee for a work thing and had Mrs Novo at home doing the driving. Unfortunately the glare into the lense directly in front was just producing a poor silhouette with the sun still rising so I went down to the beach to the north and while I'm just appearing as a little stick figure with his GPS in the air in that one, it's a better shot than the others that were taken. I also asked someone swimming nearby to get a shot on my camera up close in exactly the same spot as verification. TFTC, Mix, and thanks for the big heads up and background work by Pprime (P`), Fangsoki, and Crew 153. I have a modest list of really cool archived caches here which are rumored to still be available I just haven't got round to them yet. I think this is my first archived find.
#714 (finds #711-713 were lab caches)

Had a heads up about this one still working so we (Bluewattle, Snickersallan, Patrol14 and the RoddyCs) popped over to have a look. It took ages for the camera to show our spot - numerous adds every time it reached us. But we did manage to get the top of our head. So we added a selfie as well.

I visited the Coastal Watch Station and took a screenshot of me as seen by the high pointing camera. Had to stand on the fence and raise my hands. TFTC CFZ

Fantastic, Im the idiot in the red shirt. I wish there were more Webcams.

02-Apr-18
Day 4 of Oz Geo Muster and our team (RoddyC, Snickersallan and Bluewattle) heard about this Webcam. We took a detour to this location and tried various ways of getting a shot of us in the webcam but I just couldn't get a screenshot of us so you will just have to check out the others photos to show us (the garbageman's photo has me next to him). I have added my selfie to show I was there.
Great to be able to still get this one.

One more cache! On our way home from the Mega with EverestHigh and Max Adventurer we heard about this so detoured to avoid the traffic.

After a couple of attempts we got a couple of photos before dark set in. Managed one each of EH & MA but time was running out so a a quick snap for Brew. My one and only webcam! We had a lot of fun as the sun was setting. Great spot. TFTC

Out and about with Alansee today we were told that this Web Cam was working.
We really enjoyed this type of cache when they were released but unfortunately they are few and far between these days. This is why we thought we would try our luck.
This was much easier to complete than years ago when you needed someone with a computer sitting waiting for your call to try and capture your picture, now it can all be done on location.
In the picture Alansee is bent over climbing a bit higher while using my shoulder for support, I’m in the white shirt. Unfortunately this was the clearest shot.
Many thanks Mix for the opportunity to grab an oldy.

With the Ridgeo-pup, Miz Wacket and SpecimenX.
How exciting to log this little baby! My first webcam.
There are quite a few geocachers coming to visit - the guy in the tower must be wondering whats going on.
We met BeckNmonts and Casadella who helped us grab the photo.
You can see the tip of our Australian Flag beside their orange sun visor bottom left of the screen. We hung around trying to get a better pic but it wasn't going to happen.

Thanks for the setting this up Mix

We visited this webcam cache with GoodLook and Micaparamedic, on a fabulous day out driving around the lake as part of the OZGeoMuster.

Shame this is archived, but such is life.
We are grateful that we can still come and enjoy it and log it.
Our webcam screenshot is attached (yes that is us in the centre at the bottom), plus another photo of us at the mast.

Up from Canberra for the Mega! CoolBig GrinCool Teamed up with ZimbaW (+ Ridgeopup!) and Mizwacket where we cruised round in the Jeep to collect our target caches Big Grin The whole weekend was a blast! Cool

Last day of the Mega Sad BUT we were on a Mission to get 12 cache types in a day. I'd already achieved this at another Mega but it was good to have another go and also help out ZimbaW and Mizwacket get their 12 Big Grin

We got a tip that this web cam was still working even though it was archived. So along with the Mega mob, we decided to swing by to check it out. We came armed with our flag (lower left of pic). We tried for a better shot but couldn't get one so this'll have to do Big Grin

Thanks for the webcam Cool

Webcam photo taken with Orrsome86 and BillHill531. My first webcam. To bad it could not be resurrected. All in good order. Takes our total types up to 12 cache types for the day. Something I thought not possible around here.
Thanks for the webcam!!

Day 5 of my Mega adventure was all about going for as many types as possible. We knew of this working webcam a while ago as we were doing our homework to see if the 12 types would be possible. Headed over after the goodbye event only to be greeted with heaps of other cachers who obviously had done the research too. Or followed the handy link put up by some great QLD teams. I have two photos a selfie and a webcam as of course it loaded to an add just as it was about to hit me.

Day 4 of the OzGeoMuster 2018.

Well the final day had to come. It's been a great adventure. Not looking forward to the trip back to Canberra, but there's no escaping that. A few events today and hopefully to grab the remaining lab caches. Yet another summer day here, 32C. No doubt the beaches will be packed again.

Apologies for the generic logs. I did enjoy exploring the area finding these caches and have met quite a few other cachers out along the way. Everyone is very friendly.

Well this is a rare thing. I thought I'd need to go to Adelaide or Mt Buller to grab one of these, so no immediate plans. But word spread of an archived webcam cache at Swansea !! Lots of very excited cachers headed out there after the Farewell event to grab it. I could not get the webcam shot as the website would only display ads on my phone. But others in my group: Angelg27, DarziDi, KittyKatch etc were there at the same time.

Attaching a selfie in lieu of the webcam.

Thanks Care_Factor_Zero if you are still reading these.

A mate mentioned this to us recently knowing this is our thing ... and that we would be sort of in the area today - so here we are. Fangsoki, Crew153 and I. Webcam works fine but seems the url was updated : to https://www.coastalwatch.com/surf-cams-surf-reports/nsw/swansea : You can see it swinging around on its cycle. Always awesome to get a cache that hasn't been found in 4244 days. Surprised

Thanks Mix for such a great webcam.

Word came our way about this beast. What for have we not noticed it?

Pprime (P`), Crew 153, and I decided it would be plain rude not to look into it. We examined this webcam and its sister cache. Alas I couldn't find an existing webcam for the other one..... but for this one we had success.

There was a debate whether we would would need a ladder as the flagpole appeared in the cam - but not noticeably the base of it.

We arrived nice and early this morning and set about business. I had my netbook so I bought up the cam webpage. The bright sun was not my friend with the Lenovo netbook - hence the photo you see me in I am turned Razz

I waited till I saw my rude head upon the screen. Printscreen! Pasted into Paint. Then I saw Crew 153 and Pprime's head. Printscreen again. Saved. Done.

This was an excellent webcam to do. And to do date is our longest lost archived cache at 4,244 days unfound.

The webcam address can currently be found [here](https://www.coastalwatch.com/surf-cams-surf-reports/nsw/swansea).

I was on a Mega run from Queensland with Fangsoki and Pprime and we were targeting archived caches that may still be findable and any old caches which we could find.

A bit of research from the team before hand had found a link to the webcam which was giving pictures similar to the ones required as per the cache description.

While we were in the area we took a drive out to the site and waited until the camera pointed at us and captured a few images.

I will leave it up to Fangsoki and Pprime to post the photos which they captured of the three of us.

Good to be able to still post a log on this old cache.

Thanks for the listing Mix

Visited this cache late in the afternoon after finding another. Visited with my son and his friend. The wife obliged on the webcam and took the shots while I sat on the mobile phone and adopted the pose.

Set out in the sunshine for a pleasant day's motorcycling and two webcam geocaches. I'd packed the wet weather gear just in case, but hey, it was sunny. Three hours later, it was blowing a gale and looked like my clever way of getting the webcam shot would result in a soggy computer. The rain held off long enough to get the shot via a gprs internet link, so that's me and the laptop in the shot - who needs friends.

Our first geo webcam cache. With very little foreplanning we had fun ringing up a friend to see if he could see us on the web. Cheers the hoop snakes.

I can finally lay claim to this Webcam Cache. Managed to pick a fine day. Rounded up the troops and we all met at a beach nearby. We used to drive through this area between Taree and Sydney all the time as young adults. What memories it brought back to us all, now older with our own young ones in tow.

16-Sep-04
Making another run for this Webcam tomorrow. Last time it was pouring with rain and we had to call the whole weekend off much to everyones dissapointment. This time the weather is looking just fine. After the GeoKiddies finish tennis and swimming in the morning we'll be driving up to meet friends at the nearby beach. Have lined up remote support. Expect to be there between 12noon and 1pm.

I think the webcam site needs its windows cleaned Smile When testing the camera's website a few days, I'd noticed water/ice and insects getting in the way..

Btw, for anyone visiting the area, there's another webcam nearby at 33S05.198 151E38.405; viewable online at http://www.stickybeek.com.au/cam2/cam2_00001.jpg ... The last image attachment will give you an idea of the pervasive surveillance in our society today...
