Unbelievably awesome cache!! 12:38 bottom to top waypoint. Nearly killed me.
With incoming weather conditions tomorrow looking cold and wet we opted to do an early morning walk up here for some great views. The walk up took us 20 minutes with plenty of huffing and puffing, though the track was clear the whole way. Enjoyed the view before a short walk to the hide. Some ants had found it very interesting on the outside but the inside was clear. TFTC and hike.
Ive been wanting to get this one for a while after having walked up the mountain numerous times without getting it. Thanks for the cache!
I set out to climb Mt Johns today, not even realising there was a geocache up there. Someone had told me there was a trail up from the end of Maconochie St, but when I got there I couldn't see it - so I started climbing up from there in a more or less straight line, and it was pretty tough going. When I reached the top I thought I may as well check the Geocaching app to see if there was a cache up there - not only did I find the cache easily but also found a much easier and safer way back down once I read the description. TFTC!
Loved the rubble climb to the beautiful top of John's Mount. Worth the linger for a few get minutes to watch the sun starting to set on the surrounding hills. Thanks for a great geocahe.
Been meaning to get to this one for a while .Just didnt know the best way to get up there. Turns out there is some good waypoints in the specifics.Cache didnt disappoint .Thank you
I love a BIG Cache! lovely climb. I think the best start point is from the end of Heavitree Ct because the first waypoint is in a hotel that is closed down. I'm in town for The Desert Song Festival. It's FAB to combine that with some finds.
Found it on my early morning walk! Thank you for showing me the nice views!

I. Our travels we thought we would have a lovely morning walk, we really should read about the cache before heading off, so we just keeps climbing and climbing, but what a reward at the top, the best views, thanks for placing this cache
This was on the list to start the day as it was the best time to do it before it got too hot, it was on the must do list due to its age, I was a great walk to the top and the views were outstanding.
This trip was sort of in place of a trip to a Mega that got canceled due to accommodation problems, I was quite happy when Goose said do you fancy to caching break in the Northern Territory as this would be the last State or Territory for me in Australia.
Our plan was to fly into Darwin on the Friday night have a couple days in the area then start heading South stopping overnight whenever we needed to, our next goal was the drive to the geographic centre of Australia at Lambert Centre and then head back to Alice to fly home ten days later.
We both had a great trip finding some important old caches, large ones and the odd clever one too, we found Ammo Cans all over the place which was nice as i think we have found most of the ones at home in Tassie.
Thanks for the cache.

This cache was VERY high on our to do list. The walk looked very daunting from the bottom, especially the rocky top section. We took it slow and steady (thanks to dodgy knees and overall crap fitness). SSR beat me up and was busy taking photos as I arrived. We both lapped up the scenery before the short hop along the top to GZ where we were suitably rewarded!
A great old cache that gave everything.
Thanks Ex nihil
Our Northern Territory journey began in Darwin around 3am after a very delayed flight. We drove as far north as Fresh Water Camp (northeast of Darwin), followed by a loop to Liberated Cox (out to the west) and Litchfield National Park returning to Darwin. We then headed south with overnight stops at Katherine, Daly Waters and Devils Marbles before reaching our southernmost accommodation at Erldunda. From here we did a day trip to Lamberts Gravitational Centre on onward past Finke. Our last couple of days were in Alice Springs with a side trip via Hermannsburg and Glen Helen, all up covering just under 3800km. My thanks to all the COs with hides throughout the territory for helping make our trip so enjoyable.

Came up this afternoon to check out the cache and the views. Took us 30min with regular stops to get up here. The views were amazing, cool to see the planes parked in the distance at the airport, then walked to find the cache. Thanks for bringing me here! Then I wandered along the Ridge line to the other cache.
What a fabulous cache! The climb up was steep but short with some fun rock scrambling and the best wallaby watching spot we've seen so far! Incredible views and finally an ammo tin to survive the harsh conditions. Brilliant. Tftc

Must get some highly favourited caches to qualify for a souvenir. Also need a cache hidden in April 2004 to complete my Australian Jasmer challenge - sort of, still lots of spaces to fill up!
Parked here S 23° 43.404' E 133° 52.876'. I could see my car going up and down. So paranoid about the crime situation in Alice. Met a lovely local couple who watches the sunrise every Wednesday on my way up, chat a bit about geocaching.
Thank you for the cache Ex nihil. Really enjoyed the hike. Definitely worth another favourite point.
If you're in Alice Springs, I hope to meet you at my event on the 10th May - GCA7GY8.

A trip to Perth checking out some of the awesome places along the way in ACT, NSW, Qld and NT. Grabbing some old caches and missing LGAs. TFTC.
An awesome morning hike beating the summer sun. Took a while to find a way through the houses. Tried going through the apartments but the fence was too high. Took the next street to the east. Looks easier to take the next east after that. After lots of stops on the way up, I am now enjoying the views.

This is a truly stunning location. We came up after the ANZAC service, with so many attractions closed and we wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been before. Outstanding views and up the top is like a beautiful secret arid garden! The highlight was seeing two black footed rock wallabies, one of which wasn’t bothered by us at all and sat for us for quite a while. A favourite point from us thanks.
TFTC I am thoroughly enjoying my trip. Caches always lead me to the best locations and lookouts.
After doing Wallaby Rise we decided to take on this challenge. We followed the path up and got to the top with a few rest stops on the way. What a view over both sides of the gap. This cache is well worth doing and not too taxing as long as you follow the path and take it slowly. The cache was found no problem and we two sixty four year olds are proud of our achievement. It helped that it was a cool, overcast day.
Went for a walk to this oldie this morning, before it got too hot.
A good heart starter for the day.
Great views. Found easily.
Scored over 6 months of unlove here too.

Fit in a cache on our second day in Alice since moving from Newcastle, NSW. What an amazing walk! Geodog in tow - he loved it too
Amazing walk! Joined by heaps of roos, hopping rocks. Stunning spot to take in the views. Well maintained cache! Thank you!!
Crikey...! That was a epic event.
I was fairly comfortable for the first 1/3 and then the flies found me attractive. It doesn’t help when you are heavy breathing and your mouth is wide open. So yeah, I had some uninvited friends enter my mouth and I was soon coughing, dry retching and trying to breathe.
Anyway, I soon found what I was chasing and after a bit of a spell, it was time to head down hill.
Awesome cache and it’s in really good condition.

The things you do for a cache! Finally made it was staying at the campgrounds the other side to way points but couldn’t find a good track up- last morning in town following instructions was easy enough- beautiful spot- tftc
Wowsers . . . What a climb. This mum withe 2 kids are super proud of making it to the top! Lost the track a couple of times but kept heading in the right direction.
Such amazing views from the top.

This is definitely one of my favourite caches - and up there with the biggest efforts I've made for a single smiley, but worth it.
The directions are good and I wish I had followed them better. Stick to the spurline all the way up - the place you want to arrive to start the ramp is almost directly above the BOTTOM waypoint. I veered a little to the left and had to rock hop back to where I needed to be.
On the way down, I managed to follow a series of cairns and a rough track just discernible among the rocks. If I had followed that up, the climb would have been a bit easier - even though the first pinch as the track from BOTTOM started to peter out would have been hard.
I was unsure about doing this based on the description but decided to investigate. Solid climb but definitely achievable if you have a reasonable level of fitness
Love it. TFTC

Found with my mum Wombatwandering before being dragged along the Larapinta Trail. Apologies for the late logging but I’m finally fixing up my geocaching account now that I’m older. What a view! Thanks me in Wombat’s photo.
Great cache! We took the correct way up for 80% of the time and then botched it at the top. Still ok, just a rock scramble. Went down the right way. Found the cache and signed the log to say I was add8ng a TB only to then realise I’d left the TBs back at the accomm. Choice words were said. Saw a kangaroo and a fab sunset. Found with geocachpro and cute otter but they are too lazy to log.
Wow now this was a real experience especially because I took the wrong way up - a little rock climbing and a face to face with a rock wallaby and then finally I was on top and cache in hand. One hint I will give if you don’t go near a dead tree you are on the wrong path. The top way point is definitely needed for your way down if you made it up another way - super fabulous views when you make it
Staying some days together with my beloved husband Destinator in Alice Springs, relaxing at the hotel pool and driving through the landscape around, we did some geocaching too, of course.
We are always looking for some special boxes. They may be very old, have many favorite points, are seldom, are in a tunnel or on a mountain, or, or, or... watch our profiles, if you are interested.
This one is very special because of its placing in the center of Australia and on top of a hot hill! And yes we made it! We found the right way, enjoyed the climb, reached gz and signed the logbook! .
Thanks for placing and showing the great views!
Many greetings from Germany!

I dunno what's more stupid:
- Putting a container up there
- Searching for the container up there
The sun is burning down like...well, like it does it only in Australia. Two geocachers without any experience in the desert but with enough water and even more will to climb the hill started the quest today.
Together with my beloved wife Madeye&Moody I went up there, disturbing kangaroos in their mid day nap.
I think we did everything right: we got up there, found the box, logged it and survived even the descent to tell the story.
And, no, we didn't have to switch to all-wheel mode....
Thanks for the great adventure.

Up in 14 minutes but definitely a lot longer on the way down!
Chased kangaroo up and down (well not really, they just ran and jumped away!) The view kept getting more and more challenging the closer I got to the top. Once I got to the top, the goal was not to fall back down!
This cache totally reminds me of a cache I did in a crater in Hawaii, only thing was, it wasn't winter when I attempted it and this time, I didn't have walking pneumonia! All and all, the feelings of getting to the top were fairy similar.
Thanks for bringing me here.

Beautiful day and great walk up. Staying nearby so thought I would go grab this before lunch. Had a couple of eagles flying a little to close for comfort when I was on top. Just sat and admired and went on my way. TFTC
Brilliant climb and so worth it. Beats going to a gym! Those Harriers are impressive! TFTC
Attacked this quest from TB Hotel via side of the "Hill" (not recommended )come across the track and headed UP,UP,UP,!! TOPPED IT . Got to a great cache sight, signed and headed towards Heavitree Gap!!!.. (this is fairly hard callange) Thanks Ex ni hill. .. BUT+FP..
Ooops !! I didn't read the instructions
Instead I headed straight up the rather steep gully on the south side of Heavitree Gap,
and enjoyed a rather pleasurable ridge walk for about a kilometre to reach this cache
The olde cache container has taken a beating over its long life [:o]
But what a pleasure to find such a stalwart [^]
And the views !!
Well this is the top of the top of the dead centre caches.
So fave point for sure
After finding the cache,
I followed the trail back down the steep slope to the flat ground of suburbia [^]
I think I chose the best route today !!
I would have hated to climb up the direct path

Mr EMC tells me we are going to grab some caches before the farewell morning event. I envisage knocking off quite a few. He drives to the parking spot and tells us all we have to go up there. Luckly we are all good walker. Chikinlittle (5) and Chikinlittler (7) bounded up like mountain goats. We left at 8.15 am and got back to the car at 10.00 am after enjoying time to check out the scenery and find the cache. We had met some others coming down as we were heading up. Chikinlittle put wallaby poo on top of all the buddha temples on his way down. Could see Blatherskite Park and the remaining campers from up here. A nice way to start the day even if I didn't get as many caches as expected. TFTC.....eatmorchikin from Brisbane.
Decided last night to tackle this as our last cache before leaving this morning. Woke up about 45 mins later than expected so we didn't catch the sunrise, it rising whilst we were halfway up.
Edged our way slowly up through the path past the Novotel and onto the trail, path was easily marked so it made decision making up the hill much easier.
Once at the top we surveyed the scenery and signed the log. Made our way down to our well earned breakfast.

Got up early this morning hoping to catch the sunrise but cloud cover changed that. Still the hike upto the top via the narrow goat track and rock piles saw it done in about 30mins. Wow some impressive views, indeed well worth the effort. Best views in Alice.
Taking a quick drink and some panorama pics it was then off to GZ. Great container and location. This and the other cache on this ridge line are the best caches I found in Alice on this trip. Stayed at the Camp grounds for the Red Centre Experience event. Favorite.

Reperio at 1145.
Having driven past this cache a few times this weekend, DOC-WHO thought we can't leave without getting up there and seeing the township from there, so made plans to head up this morning. After climbing up to grab 'Heavitree Gap', we walked along the ridge to GZ, admiring the wonderful views of the area. Looking back along the ridge was pretty cool, and I think we both agreed that this was the best views of the area without a doubt. Once at GZ, the cache was easily spotted thanks to a nice sized container, and we headed back down the via the marked waypoints. Wonderful spot.

The weather is bit hot today. .5th day caching with geo-friends from Melbourne, Perth, NSW & QLD - nice to get know them. WOW, Tough climb but definitely worth for me to remember this. Beautiful views. Thanks to Ex nihil for the cache.
Kids found this one while checkin out a gecco. Went the hard way (true to form) and got the gap, then crossed the ridge to this one. Some awesome views and a great achievment for me. The ants were attracted to my black socks, but they werent bitey ants! Thank goodness. Tftc and the experience!
We were sitting around camp with DazzPete after a morning of caching, and we decided to jump up and give the two up here on the range a crack before the sun disappeared for the day. So we pulled up around at the suggested start point and started hoofing it from there. It was a very pleasant walk up the hill at this time of day, and with all the trails and small rock cairns, it was easy enough to navigate up and before we knew it we were at the top admiring the views....then it was down to the business of the cache which was found quickly enough and we all signed our lives away and headed off along the range to the next one.
An early morning hook up with powellbruce and bella@waggy had us enjoying the sunrise before we began our ascent. A reasonably well made goat track saw us able to make our way slowly to the top. Once at the ridge, bella@waggy found the cache quite quickly. We then continued along the ridge line to collec the other cache in this area before carefully descending. Thanks Ex nihil, this allowed us some magnificent views of Alice Springs and it was well worth the trek this morning.
An early morning start with McLookers and Powellbruce after some others pulled out. There was half a plan we were going to do this yesterday afternoon but this morning was more sensible. We were greeted by the end of the sun rise and the changing colours of the rock above.
No problem finding the track up and the likely ramp for the final section was spotted. A few rock wallabies about and one big roo up on the ridge.
Top Red Centre was an easy find and we soon had our names in the log book. TFTC
We continued along the ridge to Heavitree Gap. A little rocky but great views all round. We got to point where the GPSr said down the rocky slope so after making sure it had settled we headed down and soon found the we covered hide. Signing duties complete and we elected to head down the slope to the river bed. We were going to pick up the TB Hotel only to see some fella going walk about nearby so did not want to give the hide away. TFTC.
A favourite point from us.

After a failed attempt yesterday morning we decided to have another attempt this morning and with better success. The views from the top are amazing and well worth the effort.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us to find. A favourite point from me.

Sitting in camp at the Red Centre Experience Mega Event we spied these caches 'just over there' with a couple of different D/T combos and we all thought we'd better go get them. Utilising the provided waypoints we huffed and pegged our way to the top and were rewarded with a cache and some magnificent views across the landscape. Well worth the effort.

We have arrived in Alice for the Red Centre Experience Event and together with Whitewebbs and Gullivers Travels54 we spent this afternoon caching and this was one of the caches we found. Great views form the top!!

Came up via a nearby cache that i didn't find. Lucky for me i returned that way and grabbed it then. Lovely walk along the ridge and a quick find of a nice sized cache tftc
Find #2002
After finding our 2000th find, I dropped the geofamily back at the campgrounds so that they could do the boomerang painting session and I set off with some high terrain caches in mind to offset all the park n grabs we've been doing on this trip.
I am not as fit as I used to be and had to stop frequently for a breather. As I neared the top, there were cairns to guide the way and it was easy to pick out a route. I was glad to arrive at the top and enjoyed a lazy stroll to the cache which was hidden in plain sight from the angle I approached.
After signing the log, I added a bit more natural camo.

Mr W and MrT from Tassie Trekkers went out and about caching while Mrs W and Mrs T were swapping pathtags at the event. Also got a find on an unfound trig on top. TFTC
The superbly scenic photos on this cache were enough to lure us up. We started reasonably early on a cool morning. Following the additional waypoints we started the climb . . . and it certainly looks intimidating, especially that rocky top edge. But following the trail we were surprisingly making altitude fairly quickly. The photos don't do these views justice, they're amazing, so much better seeing them for yourself. The cool rocks were a wonderful treat to take a break on after the climb. What an awesome cache! Thanks Ex nihil, fav from us!
We attacked this one with Tassie Trekkers and Whitewebs a massive walk but worth it for the views
While Mrs iluvtrekking and I cached around The Gap, our geo-hubby's were scaling heights to grab a few smileys. Took around two hours to record their visit in both this cache and Heavitree Gap cache. A reasonably tough climb and tougher descent - rewarded with a swim in the hotel pool after. Thanks Ex nihil
Getting ready for the Event, looking for some geocaches before socialising. Midday probably was not the best choice, but now I was here and the mountain smiled at me. Probably lost the track a couple of times, but eventually found a cairn again and soon the ridge was reached. The views from up here are just awesome! Had some lunch before going back down and to have a look at the parts I had seen from above. Makes it even easier to get a sense of orientation
Thanks a lot for the hide at this great location, Ex nihil! Sure gets a fav from me

Travelling around Australia and now super excited to be at Alice Springs for the Easter Geocaching Event.
After tackling Heavitree gap cache, he decided it would be best to climb rather than descend. Thoroughly enjoyed the ridgeline walk but definitely earned its 4* terrain! 950mt walk on the ridgeline from the last cache.
Fun day with some great views, but definitely no walk in the park.

While on an amazing 7000km roadtrip to the NT with Pacgirl we did a lot of sightseeing, and a little bit of caching along the way as well . The aim was simply to drive north towards the Red Centre, do a couple of laps around Uluru (one by car, and one on foot), and then head back south to Victoria.
Day 11 had us continuing our exploration of Alice Springs.
Whenever I see a mountain top I want to climb it, and this was no exception ! After some easier hikes earlier in the morning I made my way to the top. Excellent cache notes made for a very enjoyable hike. The views from the top were awesome.
Thanks, Ex nihil.

A tough, but enjoyable climb. It is great to see that there are larger caches still active in the local area. Left a TB for the next finder. TFTC
Well this was an absolute privilege! In Alice for a week of intense study- flying out this morning and had a chance to climb here for sunrise! Amazing! Just loved it
Tough climb but definitely worth the effort. Left early and enjoyed the views. TFTC.
Great climb with a fantastic view! Fixed cache up a bit at Ex Nihil's request, should now be in good condition. Left new logbooks, pencils, cleaned out rubbish etc.
Great hike! I lost the trail and found it a couple times. I did have to use my hands to get up, but only once.
Took a trackable that I might or might not be able to help with its mission. I'll be going to a local event later so hopefully someone there will be able to if I cannot.
I think I might have accidentally signed the physical log with the 19th, but the actual find date is the 20th.

Found by Mrs A at 8:15am. An easy find and although the climb was enormous the detailed instructions from the CO were terrific. It had rained overnight, so there were little pools of water on the rocks and the clouds made for an interesting photo.
No trades but took Log my Dog TB

Great walk! We went in late afternoon, together with the geokids (4 & 6 years old) with only one goal: reaching the top. We lost track some times, but perseverence helps: we made it to the top. Wooow nice views! The geokids where awed for doing such a good job in climbing this hill, and they where rewarded for their effort by an easy find full of trinckets. They swapped happyly, and we took some TB (one for me, one for my partner) out. Than a walk down, which we made only just in time before darkness. Great walk! TFTC!
easy find!!! hahaha .... well, finding the cache was !!!
We made it to the top with our two joungsters of 4 and 6 !! They did very well, and so did we !! What a climb, we started a little to late. By the time we logged, the sun was going under; we started the descend at 18 o'clock and were down at 18:30, just when darkness fell ; we made it just in time !!! pfffff, lucky us ! but no worries, I had my lights with me. And the boys ? they loved it. What a view up there !!! Glad we went for this one ! They held us up, but that was calculated, allthough very close !!
THANK YOU !! Great motivation for the kids to go all the way up !

TFTC. Wonderful views on both sides, and great climb up on a cool afternoon.
Suggest trekking poles may be of help for descent.
Cache contained a lot of rubbishy stuff
- which I removed.
Dropped off some trackables.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Well, we've lived in the shadow of this cache for a number of years but only today made the climb to the top. Well worth the climb - spent nearly an hour on top of the Alice just looking around. The cache itself was an easy find, TNLN.
Took a while but we found it. Im new to geocaching so not sure how to go about this but the sign in book is nearly full. If the next person who attempts the Mt Johns climb (and they read this prior) could you please take a new notepad up to place on the ammo tin. Didnt take anything but did leave a coin in a rubber glove!!
Great view

What a great cache with the day going to be a hot one we started this one on sunrise to beat the heat. This was a great walk and well worth the effort. Definitely a fav from me. TFTC.
Well team lumpy gave this a red hot go! LumpyJ got halfway up and realised she had bitten off more than she could chew so, leaving her resting under the shade of a little bush with ample water, lumpyR and lionjrb set off in the chase for glory! Then came the phone call! They had made it! A very proud lumpyJ waited at her bush and together we made our way back down the mountain. TFTC
Beautiful evening stroll on sunset as the moon rose. Well worth the visit! Tricky descent, especially in the dark. Picked up the PacMan geocoin
Awesome cache! Loving the scenery around Alice Springs and this takes the cake. 360 degree views on a very cool October morning. It was only 6 Deg C when we headed up the hill. Another crack at cache number 500 . Highly recommend this cache but not for the faint hearted. Grabbed the Jeep TB and left the Pacman Geocoin for the next lucky finder.
