#2046 (4 of 8 today)

Decided to pick up a few caches along (sort of) Mona Vale Road today. Left home later than I was intending and so only found 8 (out of 8, so can't complain too much). But I did have a few nice bush walks, including one 4 kilometre round trip walk that I could have parked 150 metres from if I'd wanted.

Finally called it as darkness started falling.
END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION
What a fascinating rock (formation). It's being brought to new spots like this (unique and with a view) that really makes caching worthwhile. Can't help re how it formed/weathered like this.

Made my way to GZ and took what I thought was an easier way to GZ than the direct route. As I realised when I had CIH I was completely wrong.

But once in the right spot signs of caching placement were espied and all I needed to do was complete signing duties and replace.

Then I felt like a voyeur reading the love letter & diary... Would love to know why it was placed here.

Took my time going back to the car, so soak in the area and the view.
A favourite.

On a crystal clear day Geodad, geokids and geodog went to find this cache.

What a great spot. Great views, peaceful and very interesting rock patterns.
We hung around for a while playing on the tree and admiring our surroundings.

31/5/15. 3:02 PM. Cache #2549. Streak day #343.
I just finished another old cache also by Riptide ("The Hill Over The Back Fence") before coming to this even older one. I parked at birdman2099's trailhead waypoint and followed the rocks across to GZ. I had been expecting the sort of honeycomb that I have seen on the insides of sandstone caves quite a lot recently but I think the cache name was referring to the hexagonal tessellations on the tops of the rocks towards GZ.

I used a tree to help myself down to a spot, then looked around and saw the signs of a likely hide, realising that I needed to get back up again. Yep, cache was there. I enjoyed reading the log as well as the entries by the Home and Away crew from Dec 2014 (apparently the scenes shot on Chiltern Road and around here will be seen in June). Also the "Noosa" love letters... what's all that about?

In the distance, I heard a guy sneeze loudly. I yelled "bless you" and my voice must have carried across the valley to him, because I heard a laugh and then a "thank you". I replaced the cache, then headed into Newport for one more cache, "Stand and Deliver". TFTC.

Decided to target a few caches around Ingleside today, this being the 4th and last for the day.

Parked the geomobile at birdman2099's (thanks) track access coords and quickly made our way to GZ, passing over the interesting tessellated rock platform, for a quick find. Was interested to see the recent log page signed by the Channel 7 crew of Home & Away. TNLNSL.

Thanks Ripetide for the interesting rocks, and for the cache.

A quick streak day extender cache with GeoSon. Started walking down the Chiltern trail looking for a track up the hill. As we started walking back towards a previously sighted animal track, decided to go up along the road in search of easier access.
Found a wide track over the rocks with easy access to GZ from
S 33 40.125 E 151 15.985.

I was expecting something different when I saw honeycomb. Very cool. It this a natural formation?

Coords were good. Straight to the cache. TFTC.

Once again an excellent hide Riptide.

Went scrub bashing to find this one as I thought the track I started on was heading in the wrong direction. Just followed the trail of large boulders in the bush until I got to the top and saw the honeycomb on the rocks, amazing, and a great view as well - TFTC.

FINALLY!!!! Smile
DNF avenged.
Had the opportunity to walk the Chiltern track today as part of a trip to the nurseries in Terrey Hills.
Must not have had my caching eyes with me last time as I went past GZ, maybe twice.
Looked more carefully today as a friend walked the Chiltern track yesterday and saw and photographed a death adder. No snakes, only a cache.
TFTC - this certainly is an interesting geological formation.

23-Dec-13
A nice, short walk on this stinking hot day. The GPS got down to 1 m and I spotted the telltale cover immediately below.
B@Ws Central Coast Earthcache, http://coord.info/GC413KE, focusses on this type of formation and explains it well. Quite interesting.
I thought the T rating was closer to 2.
Thanks Riptide.

I came by here today having visited the area for McCowen trig (http://geocaching.com.au/cache/tp5588) a couple of years ago but missing this cache at the time. Today I headed in on a familiar path and made my way to GZ - only about 120m from the road. The pointer sent me to the right and I looked in every hole without luck. I was starting to think Jackscruff was right but then I went back up top and worked it the other way and soon spotted the telltale sign of a cache. An oldie with some odd stuff in there including some second hand sunglasses. I signed the log after someone's scrawl in charcoal in August some time. Might have been a muggle visit. So over six months since the last online find qualifies this as an 'unloved' cache.

Thanks!

17-Oct-13
I was in the area so dropped by to check on this cache (being the most recent finder). It's still there, exactly where I left it and in what looks to be the original hiding spot.

(Don't you hate it when you log a NM and then someone comes along and finds it - I do. Sorry Jackscruff Sad )

17-Oct-13
Yes I do!
Grrrrr.......especially when we aren't likely to be in the area again for months.

Anyway thanks for checking, will keep it on my to do list.

18-Aug-13
This cache has not been found for nearly 4 months. Perhaps that's because its no longer there. Checked thoroughly around GZ and saw camo as per photos, but no cache, only a very suspect smell probably left by recent users of the area.
Please check if its still there.
I will return when we next walk the Chiltern track if its there.

25-Apr-13
This is a really nice spot. The rock is fascinating and there are good views.

The log book is full of old stories. Plus there is a curious blue diary with a story of longing and love - most unusual.

The cache is in good shape. SL TFTC

20-Sep-12
En route to pick up my son. I had left a little early to get some caches in. This one was very interesting. I came along the firetrail as it would be dangerous to park any closer to the cache. I found a way in and it wasnt until I got to GZ that I turned around and saw the magnificent view. The rock formation doesnt allow for too many hidey holes at GZ so the cache was easily found.

There was a notepad inside the cache which appears to be someone's secret journal. It is anonymous so I guess it will stay secret. But it makes you wonder why it is in the cache.

Unfortunately I think I removed a pen from the cache. I found I had an extra one so I left it in the other cache "writers block" down the road. So if you are heading this way please retrieve the pen from that cache and bring it here. It had "Athlete's Foot" printed on it. Sorry about that.

Tftc it was a great little hike.

What a view from the top of this hill! GeoSon 'K' found this one today, his first on our day of caching on the northern beaches. TFTC

30-Jun-12
Beautiful day for caching. At GZ there was a gentleman with camera on tripod just standing there. I asked if he was waiting for good light and he told me he was waiting to photograph the wedge tail
eagles that live in the area. Well we didn't see any while I was there but I did find the cache, SL, TN and left bubbles. TFTC Smile

17-Mar-12
We parked at the trail end and went down the fire trail a little before seeing a half track while the GPSr needle was pointing at 90deg to the track. It was a half bush bash to the cache. Once near GZ we started seeing all the interesting formations. The cache was easily found but the lid was not on straight so had a few bugs which we removed. We picked up the travel bug, signed te elog and repalced. Nice views to the water .We decided on a different way out going straight to the road instead of the fire trail. The trips rewarded us with an easier path and more intersting rocks. TFTC

Reperio at 1450. Parked at the trailhead and scooted up to GZ, and was pretty amazed at the rock formations here. The views were also good and could see for miles. The cache didn't take long to locate, but I had to go back and another look at the honeycomb. Love finding interesting little places like this.

Wonderful rock formations with a stunning view. Once you get there cache is relatively easy to find.

Thanks

18-May-11
Found this one with pjmpjm since we were right next to it doing the McCowen Trig just up the hill. An easy short track of sorts will take you to the Honeycomb, the cache itself is an easy find if you know what to look for.
Thanks for the lovely walk.

18-May-11
Found together with rogerw3 while on a short GCA trig hunting expedition in the area. We logged nearby McCowen Trig and then made a short additional trek to find this one as well.

There's a little path off the Chiltern Fire Trail that leads up around the high rocky area ('Honeycomb Hill') and makes approaching GZ fairly easy.

And once up there, the container was easy to spot.

All was well with this geocache. Container was in good shape. Log book and contents were dry.

Nice views all around!

TNLNSL.

Many thanks to Riptide.

A short walk along the firetrail, then a short bush bash through some wet foliage to the search area.
After a quick search it was soon in hand, very strange rock formations, I have no idea how they were formed.
Great views, thanks for hiding a cache here.

06-Mar-10
4 of us had a pretty good look in a couple of likely spots but alas, nothing.

26-Dec-09
3 of us searched the area but could not find the cache. The exact spot the GPS led us was clear area of the honey comb like rock with no likely hiding spots. We searched the surrounding area but found nothing. It was a cloudy miserable day but the GPS said the accuracy was within 4 meters. We will try again next time we are in the area.

Cheers

5th and final cache of the day, after overcoming some nearby writters block. (come on guys! One more before sundown!) Treked the hard way in before Karen made the find. Briliant views from the top just on sunset. One of the best spots I've been to in a while. TFTC!

A quick detour on the way to the beach, and a fairly quick find. Evidence of bike riders here but none to be seen, had the place to myself. A quick find, an excellent view - what more could you ask for except maybe a TB waiting to be picked up?

TNLNSL, thanks Riptide.

25-Feb-09
The view is still pretty good at night too, although a clear one instead of tonight's rain would be better.

Taught ourselves a lesson in (not) logging the car - ended up bashing down to the Track before finding the road again. Oops.

Once again, caching has taken us to a pocket of our own backyards that we never knew existed. Much thanks!

21-Feb-09
Every time I head up this way I mean to stop in and nab this one but for some reason it's always last on the list, a quick drop by before making our way home. Today I made the effort and am so glad I did. The views from here are fantastic and the rock formations are tops too, so many questions and threories arise looking at them. So it may of been last this time but certainly not least Thanks for bringing us here Riptide nice work, We took the coin but made no swaps CheersBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Dropped off the Pin&Plate TB. Very nice location! have lived in the area for many years and did not know this place existed. Thanks Sooooo much. My little Girl loved the spot too. Took the penguine and left a horse.

29-Mar-08
Just a note to say that there's a big crack at the bottom and the contents are wet. The log book risks disintegrating. We put the container upside down so that no dampness will come from the ground but I'm not sure if the lid is watertight so it's best to replace it before the next rains.

29-Mar-08
Geowife found it easily while I was taking pictures of the lovely rock patterns. The cache was cracked and all items were soaking wet. We managed to write something on the logbook but this cache needs maintenance. Took Garfield. The cache was very full with stuff and wet so I didn't leave anything.

27-Mar-08
Big Grin This is a GREAT spot. Took Daugher and me a little while to find this one but well worth the wait. Dropped in the pin and plate TB (had found it as richardh1970) but forgot to take down the code. If someone grabs it before i get a chance to go back and get the code then all is cool. if not will try and stop by soon. View is FANTASTIC. TFTC!

Note: it is leaking so may need to be maintained.
