It was definately dark. It was not quite so chilly as the last failed cache spot. We were searching by our headlamps. We looked in every tree within quite a wide area of GZ and found several perfect spots, but no cache.
We searched high and low for this cache, but must have been barking up the wrong tree. Nevertheless, it was a great little trail on our way to Te Anau. The rest stop was full of KEA Caravans. TV & LB
Didn't find the cache, but thoroughly enjoyed the short walk through the bush. A little fantail hopped about only about 30cm from our faces - gorgeous. Thanks for bringing us to this spot.
Rain! Rain! Rain!
We enjoyed the loop-walk but were as soaked as the cache itself
Lovely spot! It would be great if the cache could be maintained to conserve this place for other cachers. Thanks!

Nice Drive by found. A great found at Restroom-brake. But all are soaking wet. The logbook to, therefore i cant sign in it. thx for the nice cache but needs urgently maintenance.

A damp log, but a quick find amongst the muggles. A good spot for a snack (more for me than the sandlfies!) TNLN THanks
Cache and logbook thoroughly wet. GPS was sending me for a long time to the other side of the path so local sandflies enjoyed a lot of feeding.
Travelling around the South Island from South Australia, wanted a spot to drop off a travel bug, but cache was waterlogged and mouldy. Your sandflies are worse than our blowflies! Apart from that, a beautiful area.
Found during our driving holiday in NZ in company with our elderly parents. An easy find while we stretched the legs for lunch. TFTC - Dropped in for a visit the NZ Trekking Geocoin and Ellie the Elephant TB which is travelling with us during our holiday.
One of a series of very enjoyable caches we found on our 10 day tour of the the South Island. Searching for caches along the way made it far more exciting than it would have been otherwise and took us to all sorts of interesting places we would not of found otherwise.

Took the short walk through the forest to find this neat little hide. It is in urgent need of some TLC. Managed to print our names in the wet cardboard on the back of the logbook. TFTC.
Also logging in and out our England Geocoin.

nice stop for a short rest, Logbook is still damp, and found quickly, muggles where at the picnic site so easy search
Thanks and we are on our way.
Thanks and we are on our way.
Easy find but the log book was nothing but a soggy, smelly mess, completely unuseable. This cache needs URGENT maintenance.
Found by Sc00t and Twisties on our tour of the New Zealand South Island.
Sorry for the late log i lost my list of finds
This little place was gorgeous, they were cleaning the toilets at the time so we just went about getting the cache and enjoying the quick walk!!

Found on way to Queenstown from Haast. No record left on the log as pages to book wet. Trouble locking in coordinates on GPS, but found a good looking tree.

Cache really wet and may be in the wrong place. The tree has had somewhat of an accident, and I'm not sure that the hide is still correct.
Hubby found this cache on the top of a tree for anyone to see. The container was open and the contents were wet, moldy, dirty - just horrible. I cleaned everything up the best I could. 3 trade items were trashed beyond saving so I threw them away. I put the soaked log book in it's own baggie. I put one dry piece of paper in a separate dry baggie which should work well as a log for another 5 or 6, if you write small. We did not know where it was suppose to be, so we placed it back on the same tree we found it, but out of sight, sort of in deep.
This was in the midst of a 16 day excursion, 2800 mile romp around NZ. A lovely country and we had a wonderful time.

First logbook completely full, so replaced the logbook with a new one. (Yes the old logbook is still there)
A nice easy find and a good reason to stop. Unfortunately the cache is quite wet inside and needs drying. We wiped out the container and dryed what we could but the logbook is wet.

Found this one while driving from Franz Josef to Wanaka with JessJess60. It was her first introduction to sandflies. Thanks! TNLN.
Found this one with looking4thebroc while traveling around south island. thanks!
The facilities promised in the title were appreciated, in fact relied on for a while previous! Lovley spot to stop. Thanks.
Certainly a good time for a break - we knew from the title what the nearby facilities would be. An easy find. +Duck TB. Thanks.
Found it on our way to Wanaka. Cache is seriously wet! We think the lid didn't/doesn't close too well.

This MUST be the wettest we have ever got trying to find a cache. Worth it all the same, despite the bugs!
13.35: On the way from Wanaka to Haast. We found it more by accident than by a planful search: in that moment when the signal get lost in the forest I stood already beside the right tree . The content was rather wet, we tried to dry as good as possible. Lots of muggels around at this time a two coaches stopped at the resting area.
Weather: cloudless, (kiwi-)hot, 22°C;
Wheelchair: not tested, but should work
IN & OUT: nothing.
Thanks!

I'll second the need for bug juice here. I just about got carried off by the little buggers! No swaps and TFTC.
GPS steered us wrong direction. Tough to get good cords. Not only did we find the cache but spent the next 2 hours catching the little hitchhikers that decided to ta along for the ride.

Great spot. Followed the DOC crew over the entire pass at 30 to 40 KPH and of course they pull off at this spot. REI bug juice or similar is a must on this cache. TNLN TFTH Scott and Lorry USA PS be warned NO insecticide in cache.
This was a fairly easy find during our bicycle ride through the South Island. I declined to ride up through the Haast Pass, but some of our group did that tough ride. The cache itself was pretty wet inside --- the top was ajar and it looks like this can happen rather easily when placed in its hiding place. I took a koala keychain and left a screwdriver keychain. TFTC!!
Lousy GPS reception but a quick find none the less at this lovely picnic area and forest walk. The cache container needed a dry out (I used the last of my emergency toilet paper) but it was for a good cause, I thought. TN/LN/SL
Took full advantage of the location and had lunch, used loos, feed ducks, stretched legs, found cache. TNLN.
A perfect way to take in a bit of the rainforest while having a pit stop on the way through. A pleasant stop indeed! TNLNSL TFTC!
Located with no trouble. Cache container damp. TN left koala key ring. Took a few local insects with us in the car!
Thanks

So we walked around the track a couple of times on this one. GPS was no help at all! Went back and read the clue then decided to use our geocaching instincts, they turned out to be spot on! Cache was a bit wet, emptied it out. TNLN
There was a bus load of tourists to avoid and lots of rain but eventually we found this one. We had absolutely no reception at cache location and relied on the force to see us through. At least the rain keeps the sandflies away.
I enjoyed the stop. Very nice walk and not too much trouble locating it. The container was not sealed and thing were a little wet, not too much damage
It looked bad in the beginning. No description with me, no signal (GSM nor GPS), and it was raining. Then after few locations quite far from each other I used the best and most used hint: where I would put it, and there it was! The box was really wet inside, I removed half desilitre water from there. Left silica gel (needed here), tool Maja the Bee. It will meet an other Maija the Bee after couple weeks far from here.

That’s what we noticed all over NZ: You find very clean “equipments†for a convenience stop almost everywhere. This is different in Europe! But you can also find a nice short walking track and impressive trees which you wouldn’t find in Europe either. And you could even find a cache Thanks for it.

If it was not for the last couple of nights in the tent and a wife that wants a hot shower tonight we would have camped here. great spot.
The lady at the Haast petrol station said that it was 34 degrees when we passed through. Certainly felt like it when we got out of the car at this "Pleasant" spot. Had only planned a quick stop to grab the cache but it was so hot we decided to cool off in the nearby river. One thing led to another and we ended up putting up the tent and staying the night. It was very nice to float down the river (with lifejackets on) and look out on snow capped mountains. TNLN. Many thanks.
Certainly a pleasant break. Found easily but the flies were a nuisance - thanks for the spray!

Ohhh, those blinking sand flies. How do you locals put up with them. Seems like a good camp site when the weather is good, but that was not the case today. Easy find, and then back on the bikes to avoid being bitten to death. Thanks again Moneydork. TNLN.

Found this on the 10th of Sep. Nice spot with a nice little walk around. I was amazed that the GPS actually kept track in the trees. Found the cache without too much trouble. Had plenty of time as no one else was around (probably a good thing, as we are not that stealthy!). Left wrench, signed log and took HIPPO travel mammal (hardly seems right to call him a bug). He will pop up in the desert and move out from there.
A great picnic spot. and a brilliant hiding place. Kids found it because it was a good climbing tree! Put our trackerbug hippo in it and took out a tennis ball with which we had great fun for the rest of the holiday.
Once I gave up on the idea of using the GPS, found it straight away

Yes, well we needed to use the conveniences so it was convenient to stop at this conveniently located spot. The cache also was conveniently located and easy to find with the hint. We really enjoyed the short walk in the forest. There's something about misty days that gives a nice ambience under the tree cover.

Spying a tree some distance off I guessed the cache had to be there but on arrival the GPS still recorded 17m to go. It very soon after told me to go back 30m. I decided to try my tree. Using the hint only served to confuse given that next to my tree was a hollow tree lying down comprising little else but bark. Went for the simple option and Bob’s your uncle.
Greetings from Saudi Arabia. Though I sympathise with the comment that the cache is one minute walk whichever way around the circuit you go it is not half way around something it is important to appreciate given the GPS wander.
Virtually no gps coverage under the wet trees so it was more a case of checking all the accessible trees around the path. TNLN. Greg and Bev
